There was a bit of overcast and a potential for some drizzling rain, so the host placed us at one of their picnic tables under a canopy. The restaurant was not super crowded, so we were able to sprawl out across one of the larger tables. Though we would normally have had prime seats for people watching, there was a lot of construction going on in the area, so there were fences and barricades making up the bulk of our views. Regardless, the rain held off, and we enjoyed a nice meal with friendly and efficient service. While Bin 14 had always had some good cocktails, their wine list was their true star. I had often discovered some real winners from their list. Before I decided on my selection for that particular evening, I went back to my last review and saw my raving feedback of the 2019 Sean Minor Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa. Shockingly, they still had that same vintage on the menu, two years later! Well, I immediately requested a glass of that, and the server nodded with a smile as if she knew I had found their secret gem. The wine was just as delicious as I remembered; it was well-balanced, fruity yet woodsy, robustly bodied yet easy to drink like a Pinot Noir. It was simply divine! My friend also asked me for a red wine recommendation, and I told her to try the 2021 Ratti Barbera D' Asti from Piedmont, Italy, as Barberas tend to be versatile and largely approachable as a varietal. She took the suggestion and was shocked at how much she enjoyed the wine. In terms of the food, I was very tempted to order a pasta dish, but decided to get two appetizers to enjoy in place of a singular main course. Their House Made Meatballs were good, but did not seem like they were all beef from a flavor perspective. Meaning, it seemed like there might have been pork or veal included, but I could not say for sure, as it was not noted on the menu. Either way, they were fine, but not amazing. I did like the marinara sauce that the two large balls were in, but the included pecorino cheese was way too strong and funky. I would have preferred milder ricotta or parmesan instead. The Mexican Street Corn dish, however, was fantastic! The kernels had been taken off of the husk and tossed with feta, cilantro, pickled red onion, and lime. Some of the cheese had remained in chunks, while other pieces melted into the corn. There were a few perfectly grilled shrimp placed on top of the delicious kernels. My friend had ordered the Grilled Hangar Steak Frites with a whiskey cream sauce, salted French fries, and crisp arugula. She, unfortunately, said it was just mediocre. It was nice to go back to Bin 14 after so long, and I was ecstatic to see that my favorite wine was still on their list. Our experience with the food, however, was mixed, and I felt like it was one of those places where you would simply find your go-to dish and stick with it.

I think our server was supposed to be the old lady who took our our drink/food order but never brought anything to the table. Had to grab another waiter just to get our drinks (yes, one hour in). The table next to us sat down 15 minutes after us and already was eating dinner after we had been waiting over an hour and just gotten drinks. I spoke with the hostess and they assured us drinks, coffee and dessert would be comped, food on the way. They apologized for being slammed. Appetizers came out staggered. Was weird. Burrata first then 20 minutes later the salad and shrimp came out. We didn't get our dinner until we were about 2 hours in. Got the bill without ordering dessert/coffee because we just wanted to get out of there and THEY DIDN'T EVEN COMP THE DRINKS! They said they would. I've never had a more poor dining experience. $230 dinner with no server, empty promises, and mediocre food arriving at our table 2 hours in. The entire experience ran almost 2 and a half hours.
