Grilled salmon tacos and garlicky black beans.

Food, amazing. Service, fantastic. Ambiance, cozy. We enjoyed Lola's so much. There's not one thing I can complain about. Our server was excellent. She was friendly and knowledgeable and gave good recommendations. We started with the Yellowtail Tuna ceviche and we were completely blown away by how flavorful it was. It is not apart of their regular menu and it won't be available long so get there and try it asap! My honey ordered the Bixby Burrito and she enjoyed it a lot. I ordered the grilled salmon tacos (which is pictured) and they were delicious, along with the black beans. The Jamaica was really good too. Just the right amount of sweetness. I would definitely recommend this place and I look forward to visiting again soon.

I drove and walked past this place many times and finally was able to tried it recently! We went during HH and got some drinks, which were yummy, they didn't skim on the liquor. We ordered a few burritos, which my friends all liked. I was able to taste them too and the salsa verde on the burrito was so so yummy! And, the black mole was so so flavorful and rich I would ask for extra mole! Then I got the grilled salmon tacos, sooo good, pieces were big. Def recommend and I would def come back!

I appreciate the great variety of vegan options. I had the vegan enchiladas and was able to enjoy some vegan sour cream on top! Extremely large portions, which is a huge plus. The side of plantains was also a nice touch. They stay open late, making this a great spot for those late nights when all you want is a big plate of food. Lots of seating, friendly staff, and moderate wait time. Parking is a bit rough, but there is a small lot next door.

My favorite brunch spot. I like to order the queso birria tacos and my favorite salad: mango avocado. So fresh! Accommodating service. Servers are always so kind and attentive. They also make great cocktails. Fresh hibiscus juice is our fav with champagne or as is.

The restaurant was decorated very nicely. Outdoor seating as well as indoor. The service was friendly and on point. Parking was pretty easy, street metered - but very walkable if you are from the neighborhood. The food was outstanding. Salsa yum , chips hot & crispy My salad was so fresh and tasty, my husbands mole was perfectly done

Lola's ended up being a happy accident for us. We originally had plans to eat at Ammatoli, but they had an unexpected emergency closure due to a plumbing issue bummer at first, but it worked out for the best because we had an amazing meal at Lola's. We were a party of four, and everyone had been here a few times before except me, so I was excited to finally check it out. Here's what we ordered: Special of the Day: Pork Shank with Green Mole Sauce - My bf ordered this and really enjoyed it. The plate was HUGE. If you're considering this, just know it can easily be shared by 2-3 people. Mexico City Street Corn - Shared by the table and it was just okay. Salmon Tacos - Light, flavorful, and nicely balanced. A great option if you're in the mood for something a little lighter but still satisfying. Mango Avocado Salad with Grilled Shrimp - My order and it was fantastic. So much flavor, perfectly balanced ,10/10 and an easy favorite. Cochinita Pibil - My gf's go-to order. Regular & Mango Margaritas - Both were tasty and well made. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating, and I can see how this place could easily get packed, especially during HH. I unfortunately can't recall our server's name, but she did a fantastic job, and all the staff we interacted with were friendly and helpful. Great food, fun atmosphere, and a save-the-night kind of dinner. We'll definitely be back!

First time here. Rice was cold , shrimp lobster enchiladas were just whatever they did nothing for me. Overpriced will not be back. Did I mention overpriced? . $33 for small enchiladas is .

The Jalisco tacos were good with birra. The queso wasn't that great but the chips and salsa with guacamole and the green crack sauce was great.

Large Baja Salad + Grilled Chicken ($18.95 price as of July 2025) Jarritos Guava Soda
    Diana L.

I visited Lola's on July 7th for the first time for a late lunch. I ordered the following (prices as of July 2025): Large Baja Salad ($14.95) + Grilled Chicken (+$4) - Surprisingly very tasty. I enjoyed my Baja salad and definitely recommend adding grilled chicken for extra protein. It comes with crispy romaine lettuce, black beans, avocado, pico de gallo, queso cotija, toasted heirloom corn, tortilla chips, and pepita like dressing. All the ingredients tasted flesh and complemented each other. It wasn't too salty but had just the right amount of flavor. Very delicious and I would recommend this. Jarritos Guava Soda ($14.75) - I enjoy drinking jarritos! I've tried other flavors but this was my first time trying the guava flavor. It didn't disappoint but the guava flavor is on the lighter side. Interior: This is a cute Mexican restaurant that is nicely decorated with tables inside. Customer Service: A sad miss. Our waitress was really nice and had some good recs when we ordered. However, although we came at an off time and there wasn't many patrons, it took some time to get everything from taking our orders, receiving our meals, getting the check, getting the boxes, etc. We had to flag them down several times and they were not that attentive. Parking: The shop is located right next to a paid lot next door. Fortunately, there was one spot left when we arrived! All in all, I wouldn't mind coming back to try out more food. But just keep in mind, if you have a more limited lunch time - this place may not be the best for you.

Im disappointed tbh. I was excited to try this place because of TikTok but we didn't have the best experience. Our waiter was a tall young guy with curly hair. We found a small wood stick in our taco and when we showed him he said "did you grab it from the garden" that was next to us?? Wtf?? No dude.. and then he told us he messed up punching in our order and interrupted us mid ordering and left to fix it and came back. Super distracted and sporadic server. Didn't apologize for the stick in our food that we could've choked on and only checked on us 1 time throughout our entire meal. Aside from the poor service, the food was very mid.. so were the drinks... overall just wouldn't return.

Authentic Mexican cuisine in the beautiful city of Long Beach. Came in on a Saturday evening and it was busy but we were seated after 15 minutes. Friendly staff and casual decorations. Smaller restaurant with two patios. We opted for booth seating. My kids shared enchiladas and a cheese quesadilla. No complaints. For starters we had to have their cuetes and a side of guacamole.Fresh avocados made for a delicious guacamole. The cuetes consisted of Jalapenos filled with sour cream and cheese wrapped in bacon. Super yummy and not too spicy. Also shared chile verde and a taco trio. The chile verde meat was a little undercooked but the flavors were good and authentic. The best taco from trio was hands down the carnitas. Well cooked with a hint of coke. Also had a michelada which I think has too much mix. I couldn't taste the beer. But their house margaritas are solid. You can taste the real agave tequila with just the perfect blend of flavors. We left happy and content.

Cute dine-in Mexican spot off of 4th Street, quick service and has a full menu of all the greatest hits - tacos, burritos, enchiladas and their signature moles. We weren't super hungry when we came in for lunch so ordered a shared plate of handmade taquitos and one of their holiday specials, the tamale platter. Food came out quickly so the taquitos were still nice and crispy, which I prefer before they inevitably get soggy and smothered with sauce. The tamales were okay, but I am coming to the realization that maybe I just don't Iike the maize flavor of tamales. What I will definitely come back for is their robust menu of agave cocktails - they make their own syrup in house, and every flavor sounds delicious. I ordered their more popular Guava Margarita with mezcal instead of tequila, and it's one of the better drinks I've had in a long time. All I need is one of these margaritas, which are offered for $8-10 during their weekday 3-6 PM happy hour, along with a basket of chips and salsa, and I can happily stay for a long time.

One thing to know before you go: check the operating hours. The garden was closing at 1:00 that day, so our visit was shorter than we would have liked. About 15 minutes before closing they started rounding everyone up, which was completely understandable, but next time I'd definitely book earlier. We brought Billy's mom and dad with us, and his father is 92 amazing years old, so we're always paying attention to how much walking, stress, parking drama, or general nonsense an outing involves. This one was about as easy as it gets. There's paid parking right next to the garden. I think we paid around $6.50, and the payment system was simple enough. Once you're inside, it's just beautiful. Little bridges, waterfalls, colorful koi everywhere (bonus! tons of baby koi this time!) lilies on the pond, flowers, and these bright red dragonflies flying around that completely caught my attention. There were families, students, people sketching, people feeding the fish, just a really nice mix of people quietly enjoying the space. What I especially like is that you don't have to make a whole production out of it. You can stroll, sit for a while, watch the koi, cross a bridge, look at the water, and just enjoy being somewhere pretty. Small, peaceful, easy, and genuinely lovely. It makes for a really nice family outing, and it's one of those places that's good to keep in your back pocket when you want to do something without committing to an entire day.

Earl Burns Miller Japanese Garden is a peaceful hidden gem tucked inside California State…read moreUniversity, Long Beach. I walked into a space that is smaller than some larger Japanese gardens, but the layout feels carefully planned with winding paths, traditional landscaping, a koi pond, waterfalls, bridges, and quiet corners throughout. It is the type of place where taking your time matters more than trying to see everything quickly, and the smaller size actually makes the experience feel more intimate. The garden feels like a world apart from the campus surrounding it, and the transition from the university grounds to the garden is immediate and effective. The koi pond is easily the centerpiece of the garden and one of the most enjoyable parts to spend time around. I found myself lingering by the water, watching the fish move through the pond as the sunlight filtered through the trees. The fish are large and active, and the surrounding greenery, stone features, and water elements create a very relaxing atmosphere. The garden does a good job balancing natural scenery with traditional Japanese design, with each section offering a slightly different view and feeling as I walked through. The bridges and stone lanterns add to the sense of place, and the sound of the waterfalls creates a calming background that stays with you as you move through the space. What I liked most about this garden is how calm it feels despite being located on a college campus. It feels separated from the surrounding area once you enter, making it a nice place for a quiet walk, photography, or just taking a break. The landscaping is well maintained, and the entire space has a slower pace that encourages you to actually stop and appreciate the details rather than rushing through. The garden's design rewards a slow approach, with each turn in the path offering a slightly different perspective on the pond, the plants, and the stonework. The visit is fairly quick since the garden is compact, but it works well as a relaxing stop rather than a destination that takes up an entire afternoon. Reservations are required, so it is worth checking availability before going. Admission is free, although parking is an extra cost and can be the main inconvenience, especially during busy campus hours. The garden's location on campus makes it accessible, but the parking situation can require a bit of patience. Earl Burns Miller Japanese Garden is a beautiful spot if you are looking for a peaceful escape rather than a large attraction. The koi pond, thoughtful design, and quiet atmosphere make it a place worth visiting, especially on a nice day when you can take your time walking through the garden. It offers a brief but meaningful pause from the surrounding city and campus life, and the care that has gone into maintaining the space is evident in every corner.

My wife and I discovered The Modern during a special event right before I proposed, and we knew that if we ever got married, this would be the place. Following our engagement, we had a tour of the place with Mary, and we were 1000% convinced with the place since Mary came with the package lol. The communication throughout the course of our planning was outstanding, and both Abel and Mary addressed all our inquiries and concerns without hesitation and with clear answers. While the conditions of the contract initially seemed rigid, all guidelines and expectations were stated clearly, and both Abel and Mary provided all the support necessary to ensure the vendors understood and executed per the contract accordingly. All terms of the pricing were transparent, and we found the costs to be worth every penny, as we were 1000% satisfied with the venue. Through the course of our two-year planning, Abel and Mary were available and offered the walkthroughs necessary for the vendors and us to plan accordingly and execute an impeccably perfect wedding. Mary did an outstanding job and exerted so much patience with both my Wife and I through the course of food and drink tasting. She assessed our preferences and perfected our specialty cocktails and food menu to reflect my wife, our guests, and I. We appreciated the opportunity to host our rehearsal brunch at their Kitchen and Bar located below the venue. Our guests enjoyed getting a small taste of the delicious food and drinks they'd be having the following day at the actual wedding. The day of the wedding could not have unfolded so perfectly, both aesthetically and logistically. Abel and Mary coordinated and collaborated in unison with our group of vendors, and they really outdid themselves by providing the foundation to our dream wedding, literally. They did an amazing and efficient job at flipping the venue space for the reception. All while our guests were enjoying themselves in the lavish lounge during cocktail hour. The venue itself is perfect. It is very modern, clean, spacious, classy, and their furniture and greenery were the perfect accessories necessary to complete our wedding day. And that's not all. The VIEWS are one of a kind as the venue has an entire wall space made up of windows that overlooks Long Beach Airport and an outdoor terrace that allowed us and our guests to enjoy the views. We literally had airplanes flying up and down during our entire wedding, with a grand exit of us flying off in a helicopter. My wife, our guests, and I cannot believe how perfect the entire day turned out. They will not stop raving about how perfect and beautiful everything turned out. From the food to the drinks and the wonderful bartenders, and of course to how magically, beautiful our wedding was. None of which would have been possible without the fantastic venue, Abel, Mary and their team. While we are saddened to turn the chapter from the wedding planning and wedding, we are so so so happy we chose The Modern. I had breakfast here this weekend. The waiters were friendly and attentive as always, and it's nice to see familiar faces. The food, though, has really gone downhill. I'm not a picky eater, but the biscuits and gravy were just... gross. The biscuit was flat and mushy, and the gravy was bland and clearly out of a can or bag. It even had these thin, uniform little squares of sausage in it, more like something you'd find in dog food than the small chunks of fried, browned sausage you'd expect. Biscuits and gravy is like 90% just made of flour, so I have a hard time believing the premade version is actually saving much money over making it fresh. The kitchen already goes through so much sausage that it seems like an easy fix to use real drippings and meat instead of whatever this was. The hash browns were bland too, undercooked inside and overcooked outside. And the "maple syrup" was high fructose corn syrup with brown dye and flavoring. No one wants to feed that to their kids. I'd happily pay a dollar more for real syrup. Everyone's cutting costs these days, but there has to be more pride and care put into the food you serve patrons. We love this restaurant and hope to see the quality back to where it was. The waiters and cooks deserve better ingredients to work with, and the neighborhood regulars who count on this place deserve better too.

While we were required to use TGIS Catering, this turned out to be a fantastic decision; we received numerous compliments on the food. One guest , who's attended countless weddings, even mentioned that it was among the top three wedding dinners she's ever experienced. The team at TGIS was excellent and collaborated with us to create the ideal menu. The servers and bartenders were friendly and efficient. One fantastic feature with TGIS is their bar mixer option, which allows you to provide your own alcoholic beverages--this was a great way to save money. A special shout-out goes to The Betty coordinators, Jeremy and Anastasia. Anastasia, our main coordinator, was especially wonderful--so kind and always ready to assist with any questions or issues that arose. Looking back on our special day, we are incredibly grateful to have chosen The Betty. If you're on the fence about booking, I encourage you to go for it! I've also included pictures of the gorgeous outdoor ceremony space and reception area. Thank you, Jeremy and Anastasia, for helping make our wedding unforgettable! **photos by Love Is Wedding**
