This is such a wonderful new spot to grace the food scene of Long Beach. Masa Y Taza is a wonderful breakfast spot with something for everybody, and  I can't wait to tell you about it! Masa Y Taza is a fast casual breakfast cafe, where you order at the counter and food is brought out to your number. They have a wide variety of goods, from coffees, agua frescas, pastries, and some of the best breakfast burritos in the area. Let's start with your drinks. I got the horchata latte, which was perfect. The horchata was creamy, spicy, and sweet enough to balance the espresso. I do think this one is better than the one at Tierra Mia because it is less gritty. The breakfast burrito was so good! I got the Ranchero burrito with green chorizo. The chorizo is sooooo flavorful. It's chicken, but it is not dry at all. The Ranchero burrito is an upgraded option with the inclusion of sour cream and guacamole, but I actually don't think it's necessary at all. I would get their classic burrito so that you can see the proteins really shine. The eggs inside are fluffy and the beans are very flavorful. Each burrito also comes with 2 free sides of sauce, and there are like 8 to choose from. From what I've tasted, you can't go wrong. I personally loved the chipotle crema and the pickled onions, but that salsa macha is also bombbbbbb.  You CANNOT SKIP the FRENCH TOAST! I mean, why does this spot have some of the best french toast I've ever had? The bread is soaked in a delicious custard, and toasted until it's crispy on the outside, gooey in the middle, and somehow still so fluffy. Paired with the housemade caramel/cajeta, it's a breakfast bite made in heaven. I feel so lucky to have found this gem to add into my location for breakfast options in Long Beach. Not for me but my partner enjoyed it. You order at the counter with plenty of places to sit inside. Parking is tricky in the area. The food came out pretty fast considering it was packed. Red chorizo burrito -- my partner really enjoyed this and would go back for it Red chorizo taco -- pure grease dripping out of the taco. Had a slightly bitter taste to it Green chorizo (chicken) taco -- I didn't finish this. I did not enjoy the texture it was all mush. Salsas we tried did have good flavor. So glad I finally got to try this little spot! I've seen the line out the door so I was so excited my friend and I could get in here. I got the chorizo breakfast burrito with red sauce and chipotle sauce, and my friend got the big ranchero breakfast burrito. These are good size burritos with delicious flour tortillas similar to Sonoratown's flour tortillas. My chorizo burrito was very solid. Would definitely recommend. My friend loved her ranchero burrito, and took home like half of it. The real star was the churro French toast. I don't even like sweet breakfasts anymore but I could have that all day every day. Tried this spot while doing laundry next door with my partner and we decided to split two of the El Ranchero burritos -- the red pork chorizo and the green chicken chorizo. The ingredients sounded amazing: eggs, potatoes, Mexican cheese, guacamole, and sour cream. Flavor-wise, both burritos actually tasted really good and the salsas were delicious too. Unfortunately, the texture kind of ruined it for us. Both burritos had the exact same very mushy texture, and after a few bites we were both over it. There were supposed to be potatoes inside, but it barely seemed like there were any. Crispy potatoes would've made a huge difference and added some texture. At $21 each, we just didn't feel like the burritos were worth the price. The real highlight of our visit was the drinks -- we got the horchata and pepino agua fresca, and both were SO good. Masa y Taza is popping off in the LBC, and they're doing breakfast burritos right. We came in on a Sunday morning and waited about 25 minutes to place our order. Once we did, the food came out relatively quick. Next time I would call in my order for pickup. I went with the green chile chicken breakfast burrito. I really loved the combination of ingredients, the amount of cheese, and the fresh and chewy tortilla. You get your choice of two salsas with your order, and you don't want to miss the salsa verde. We love a salsa selection. As a non-coffee drinker I would have loved to see some tea options. How tasty would a horchata chai be?! Came here with my friend a few months ago after I learned she'd never been and it's in her neighborhood. This place is small with a few tables to dine in, but everything I tried has was great. We walked but they also have a few parking spots on the right side of the building. We got the El Chorizo Verde de Pollo (Green Chicken) and El Clásico breakfast burritos. The El Clásico was our favorite. I also got the Horchata Latte which was great. All the staff were super kind, including the owner who checked on us often and shared a bit about the business. My partner put this spot up for breakfast this morning. It has been wildly popular, but we showed up early to beat the rush. Parking can be a challenge on Fourth Street, but sometimes (especially in the morning) you can get lucky. Just don't park behind the restaurant in the lot next to the laundry. Some signs make that pretty clear. When you walk in, it's a very nice place with plenty of table seating and a small menu to make great choices. We decided to split a El Classico breakfast burrito with bacon, eggs, potatoes, cheese all in a homemade flour burrito tortilla. She had a cup of Cafe de Olla, and it was a perfect natural. No need for cream or sugar, bringing her thoughts of home with her mother. We also shared the churro french toast that was stuffed with custard and came with gooey chocolate dip. It took be back to Spain by how good they were. We enjoyed the tortillas de Mantequilla, and again the homemade flour tortillas were amazing, sending me back to times as a kid. These were better than my grandmother's. The service was great overall, these guys do well behind the counter, and in the kitchen. It was strong but the flavor wasn't there. I'd like to think it's because I did add an extra shot and maybe that changed the flavor, but idk. I found out about this place through Instagram! Bookmarked it since their coffee drinks look amazing and I'm always looking for new cafe spots to take hubby! Decent spot that's close enough to walk to; if you're driving parking can be very limited and inside seating is very limited which can present a problem if dining in or trying to. Been here twice tried the chicken verde breakfast burrito, the potato, the concha, and the French toast. Tried the horchata latte too. Not bad. Food came out before the drink did so had to wait on that. I stopped by Masa y Taza this morning and I'm pretty sure they're still in a soft-opening phase, but first impressions were solid. From the outside, the branding immediately lets you know what you're walking into -- clean white and blue, very Mexican pottery-inspired, tasteful and intentional. You don't have to guess the vibe. Inside, the space feels modern and airy: nice tile work toward the back, open layout, lots of tables up front, with the kitchen clearly active behind the scenes. There's good energy right away -- the front line was busy with cashiers, coffee prep, and food being run out, which is always a good sign. Breakfast burrito options were plentiful and honestly all sounded good. I went with the El Chorizo Rojo burrito, but I already know I'll be back to work my way through the rest. They also have a solid coffee program going -- I tried the café de olla, and you can tell they're taking coffee seriously, not just treating it as an afterthought. There's also a small selection of baked goods; I grabbed a vanilla concha straight from the display case -- what you see is what you get, which I actually appreciate. The coffee and concha came out right away, though I did notice two things worth mentioning: there wasn't any cream or half-and-half out at the self-serve station, so I had to ask (they were happy to help), and the coffee itself wasn't quite as hot as I'd expect. Not a dealbreaker, just something they'll probably dial in as they settle into full service. Please please fix the temperature of the coffee. The burrito came out surprisingly fast. I tried both sauces, and the salsa rojo was the standout for me: balanced, flavorful, and not just heat for the sake of heat. The tortilla deserves a shout-out too -- it holds everything together, tastes fresh, and elevates the whole burrito. Presentation was thoughtful: foil-wrapped, tucked into a paper box, sealed with a round branded sticker that reads Masa y Taza - Long Beach, California. Its awesome to see a place like this! You can't go wrong with fresh homemade tortillas and great coffee. We ordered for pick up. Lately the line has been out the door so it was a great idea to place an order online to avoid the wait. Service was great. They were making the latte as I arrived. It was so delicious and creamy. Everything was great about the burrito. I really did enjoy the potatoes. So next time ill have to try the potatoes with the salsa macha. I wanted to try this spot and see if it lives to the hype it receives on social media. Here's my unbiased opinion: Coffee: This was the strongest point. I got the Horchata Latte over ice and my partner got a Mexican Mocha. Both were freshly brewed and had a great blend of flavors. I would absolutely give these a try if you're planning on going. Customer Service: Staff was nice and attentive. They mistakenly got our drink order wrong and replaced it right away. They even gave us the drink they made by mistake, which I thought was nice! Food: I think this was my biggest let down. Portion sizes are average. There are a few other places in town that offer a bigger burrito for the same or lower price. I got the Chorizo Verde Burrito. The flavor combination was ok. It didn't have anything that made it stand out. Every burrito comes with two salsas. I chose Creamy Chipotle and Spicy Red Pickled Onions. The creamy chipotle tasted like straight up mayo, and the onions were just bland, no spice at all and clearly not marinated enough. Ambiance: The outside is pretty, so you'd think that the inside would match, but it's just a plain room with white walls and uncomfortable chairs. Music was fire though. Just checked out this new little breakfast café that just opened up, and wow The homemade flour tortillas are insanely good -- soft, fresh, and honestly make the whole meal next level. The breakfast burritos are the BOMB, packed with flavor and even better because of those tortillas. The French toast is AMAZING, literally melts in your mouth. You don't even need syrup or anything on it, it's that good on its own. The sauces are a MUST-try. I didn't catch all the names, but there are about five different house-made sauces, and each one has its own bold, distinct depth of flavor. You'll want to try more than one. I'm usually not a big coffee person, but their café de la olla was really great -- smooth, flavorful, and not overpowering. Definitely a spot I'll be coming back to. The customer service was amazing the gentleman and the lady up front were both so kind and patient, especially as I asked to veganize my coffee. The food was great but the burrito was our absolute favorite, huge and packed with flavor. Our drinks were solid, the banana flavor didn't taste artificial like most I've tried which was a plus and my tres leches was perfect and not extremely sweet. The staff were super friendly, customer service was amazing and the inside was super clean and plenty of seating inside. The only negative here is the parking situation on the weekends. There's a laundromat next door, just don't park there. Street parking is the only way as we do here in Long Beach. read more

I have truly been compelled to write my first Yelp review. So much so, that I want to give a one star rating, but the fact that they are in a soft opening, the quality of ingredients, and the transparency and kindness/apologies from their staff is commendable. We arrived to the location around 11am this past Sunday. They weren't taking phone orders so we could tell they were busy, not a problem. We drive there and the line was just barely out the door, maybe 7 parties ahead of us. Took us about 30-35 minutes to get our order in. Their menu board is pretty small and doesn't have any description of what's inside the burritos. Many questions had from patrons ahead of us, and also including us. A more detailed pamphlet menu would be very helpful/efficient here if you still want to keep the minimalistic vibe on the walls. We got a veggie breakfast burrito with the assumption that it would also have egg in it, because it's a breakfast burrito, right? WRONG no egg to be found. Just a bean burrito pretty much. And the burrito was wrapped deplorably. They kind of all were. They charge for extra salsas - I get it - but they were also OUT of all the salsas they charged us for. We're in Long Beach, we're absolute salsa fiends out here. I did overhear a staff member mentioning that chorizo burritos (main thing on the menu) were taking a long time to make because they were preparing more chorizo- they ran out of that too. We ordered a papa y salsa macha burrito which we also did not receive because they also ran out of potatoes, they offered us French toast bites instead which were kind of an outlier on their menu. They were damn near out of everything they need to even sell the items on their menu. So we had burritos with no salsa and ended up not receiving one of the burritos. The red chorizo burrito we did receive was pretty flavorful, the green chorizo was forgettable. The cafe de olla we got was actually very nice, not overly sweet. The burritos were very small for the price. One of the most expensive in the area and the size did not reflect that. I'm not saying I need a monster Tams burrito, but they simply shouldn't be that small for the price point. Burritos are expected to be hefty. They did constantly apologize for the wait and were transparent on why things were taking a while, but the experience we had was so sub par. We spent about an hour and fifteen minutes from start to finish for some to-go burritos and were left unsatisfied. Many people said they had been waiting for over an hour to get their order. The total was about $70 for the 4 burritos (only received 3) and one cafe de olla. As a culinary graduate, a cook, and long-time person of the industry as well, I can appreciate the quality of ingredients and the push to have as many scratch made components as possible and I understand the intricacies of how this kind of operation works. But I have to be honest about my experience. I do commend their staff for keeping a smile and great attitude throughout the pressure and chaos they were dealing with. I would love to return some time after their official opening next month and see how they've improved. I debated on leaving this review, but my experience did NOT reflect the yelp rating, or the glowing Long Beach post write up, and I thought people should be realistically prepared for the experience of a soft opening restaurant with a LOT of kinks. My boyfriend and I went for the first time today and cannot wait to come back again soon. The decor, cups, and food are all perfectly authentic along with the most welcoming service team. This place is amazing. It's one of two places I've found in Long Beach that serve food that's comparable to did in Mexico City. I've tried a burrito with chorizo and one with nopales and they were both outstanding. The handmade flour tortillas were perfect. The salsas taste like they're made from scratch. The drinks themselves were good but were not great. They did not skimp out on filling up the burrito and it was also just good and a safe option. They offer a small variety of sauces for the burritos, which I personally would've preferred to be spicier and for the coffee to taste better. New favorite breakfast burrito place or place to eat in general. Genuinely get this at least once a week. My go to is El Clásico Burrito!!!! The tortilla brings me back every time! The banana mazapán latte is actually so tasty and not too overly sweet. Perfect service and great quality. Cannot get enough! read more
