The owners are still working in the restaurant and, sometimes, that level of caring about the customer experience is what makes a big difference. To end my meal, I had Cafe de Olla, which took me back to childhood with authentic cinnamon flavor, not fake flavored syrup or ground cinnamon that never integrates into the coffee. Paired that with flan. The flan is more cheesecake-like than traditional flan, but delicious nonetheless. I started the breakfast with a cortado, which lets you taste a little more of the quality of the coffee since there is less milk and it was good. I also had chilaquiles with carne al pastor and the bandera sauce option and sunny side up eggs. So many places struggle to make eggs truly sunny side up, but they nailed it. All tasty. read more

If Yelp allowed one million stars, Andrade's Cafe by the Bay would get every one of them. This place is an absolute diamond. It's run by a husband-and-wife team who are genuinely doing something special here. The food is incredibly fresh, authentic, and clearly made with care..but what impressed me even more was the level of personal attention. My daughter needed to be careful about what she could tolerate, and they took the time to make her cocktail specifically for her. I don't eat tomatoes, so instead of simply telling me what I couldn't have, they made fresh guacamole without tomato and even fresh ceviche without tomato. No attitude, no inconvenience--just, "Of course, we can do that." That tells you everything about this place. The food was outstanding, the ingredients were fresh, the service was exceptional, and the owners could not have been more gracious. It also has this wonderful, tucked-away, secluded feeling by the bay--which I personally love. You can actually relax, have a great meal, and enjoy some privacy. There are plenty of restaurants that serve good food. It's much harder to find one where the people, food, atmosphere, and attention to detail all come together like this. Hot damn. We found this place via Yelp and couldn't be happier. It's unassuming, not at all pretentious, and feels very beach community. I think it is aimed at attracting visitors like us with competitive pricing, and attracting locals with incredible food. My wife and I usually share entrees, so I got the fried fish appetizer as an entree. I ate every bite before picking apart the bones looking for every scrap. What I found was little bits behind bones, between ribs, and by the end my plate looked unrecognizable. 100% worth it. I would never have paired Mexican style fried fish with English malt vinegar. It jives. The fish is not heavily battered, so not much vinegar gets absorbed. Enter the tortillas. They hold exactly the right amount of vinegar to make each bite perfect. Cannot recommend enough. Also, the server was all over us. We never went more than about 5 minutes without at least a check in. Server was clearly very motivated to take great care of us. We split a ranch water, which I had no idea existed. It is incredible. The coffee is also off the charts. My wife took one bite of the chilaquiles we got to share as an entree and wouldn't give me any. The nerve of some people! She insists it's good, and I believe her. Oh, even the chips and salsa was crazy good. All in all, well worth a visit. Looks and feels off the beaten path but was surprisingly easy to get to. read more

My church friend & I hung out at the beach on Wednesday and then came by here for a late lunch! I can't believe I've never known about this place! It's cute, smells good and family owned! We stopped by this great little place on the LB Peninsula for coffee this morning. We had an amazing time conversing with the owner and some locals. The latte I ordered was delicious and perfectly crafted. They are open at 8am for coffee and/or breakfast. They stay open until 8pm, serving lunch and dinner. The menu has lots of options, both Mexican and American food. I have met both the husband and wife owners...super nice people!! The cafe has a really nice feel and is quite pleasant. I visit here with my friends yesterday morning as we saw a cafe hidden in the Belmont Shore neighborhood, we finally decided to check it out and I'm glad we did. One of the hidden gems here in Long Beach is a small little sit down Mexican restaurant that serves amazing dishes and the BEST Cafe de Olla I have ever tasted. We ordered Ceviche and also had order Pepperoni and Hawaiian Pizza (I know, different palettes) but they were both REALLY good.... We got a chance to speak with owner Jorge, he was very welcoming and humble. He puts a great amount of effort and care into his cafe and his dishes. From today, it's been about 7 months that this location has opened. I would be coming back here and I would HIGHLY recommend this place when you are nearby! I was sad to see the old location gone, but boy oh boy did Long Beach score with this new restaurant! The people here were so kind and welcoming. The location and ambiance is also beautiful. Food and service is reviewed below. We came in on Mother's Day weekend and they were offering moms a complimentary glass of champagne. I thought that was such a nice touch. We arrived as a party of 3 while a larger party arrived a few moments after us. We needed a second to look through the menu before ordering but with that quick second, we ended up waiting quite some time as the server solely focused on the larger party. That was a bit disappointing for this thirsty and hungry mama but luckily we flagged someone else down and they took care of us immediately the whole rest of the time. The food is authentic Mexico flavors meaning it can be light or heavy, spicy or creamy, but fully satisfying. We did Benedicts, chilaquiles, and kids pancakes. All things we'd order again!! I can't wait to return for other items on their menu like their crema de elote or fideo soup!!! I highly recommend for casual dining but especially for a special occasion! Andrade's deserves all the stars and is one of my new favorite places in Long Beach. It's located on the peninsula, and tucked away down a side street right by the bay, so you have to know about it because you're not likely to stumble upon it. As soon as you step inside you're warmly greeted by the staff or one of the owners. It's a great place to stop in for any type of beverage, from their full-service coffee station, to the grab-and-go drink fridge, to a fun alcoholic drink. In addition to that, they are a full service restaurant serving breakfast and the lunch/dinner menu all day. For my first visit, we sat on the back patio for brunch. I had a chai tea and the birria ramen. The meat was exquisitely tender and the broth had so much flavor. On my second visit, we stopped in for an iced strawberry matcha while on a bike ride and took it just a few steps down the block to the water to enjoy. It had plenty of strawberry and was simply lovely. I look forward to returning because there's so many more items on the extensive menu that I want to try. read more

Such a lovely cafe by the beach! I kept it simple and ordered a croissant and a vanilla iced latte, and both were absolutely delicious. The croissant was perfectly flaky and the latte had just the right balance of sweetness and coffee. What really made the experience stand out though was the staff. They were incredibly friendly, welcoming, and so attentive to our large group of moms and toddlers. Anyone who's ever gone out with little kids knows it can be a lot, but they were patient, kind, and made us feel completely comfortable being there. Was in the Long Beach area looking for somewhere to grab breakfast and, based on the prior reviews and location, decided to try it out. Since it was on the strand in Seal Beach, I was looking forward to having an ocean or bay view. Unfortunately, that was not the case. The restaurant is on the bay side of Ocean Avenue on a mostly residential street - so no ocean view. It also looks like a converted surf or apparel shop that is nestled in between a couple of other buildings - so no bay view either. It was just kinda shoehorned in between a couple of buildings with no windows or view whatsoever. So, initial expectations: shattered. I ordered the omelette with sausage and an iced Cafe de Olla. The Cafe de Olla came first. It was... unusual. Weak flavored and watered down, it tasted more like an unsweetened iced tea with a hint of cinnamon than the Cafe de Olla I have enjoyed elsewhere. Thankfully, a carafe of ice water was also available to wash it down with. The omelette came next. The omelette seemed to be made inside out. The sausage was certainly on the inside, but the cheese was melted on the outside - which was unusual. It was served with beans and home fries (basically, minimally-seasoned standard restaurant supply potato chunks). I was offered the option of tortillas and salsa (both of which I accepted). The omelette was fairly bland - like eating a pan of fried scrambled eggs with sausage. The home fries were similarly underwhelming. Where the plate shone was in the beans. I basically ended up having bites of the other stuff with beans to give it any flavor. Maybe I didn't order something the house does particularly well or something, but the dish was overall just meh. Since I was the only customer at the time (weekday morning) service was not an issue. The gentleman who was working appeared to be an owner or manager who was doing his books while also serving as waiter. So, overall, it was simply an average experience. Again, maybe I just ordered something that wasn't a house specialty, but it just didn't seem to meet my expectations based on what I read in other reviews. read more

Hidden Gem on the Peninsula! My husband and I biked down to the peninsula today to check out this new spot -- mostly because I had to try their birria ramen I'd been hearing about on social media. Even though the place was packed, we were seated right away. The menu is surprisingly extensive -- everything from Mexican favorites like chilaquiles and enchiladas to American breakfast, burgers, and hot dogs. However, to my disappointment, the birria ramen wasn't listed. I went for the Quesabirria lunch plate instead, which came with three tacos and a side of consomé for dipping. The tacos were messy (in the best way!) and absolutely delicious -- tender meat and a rich, flavorful broth. At one point I had to get up to ask for napkins, but honestly, it's their first day open and that's completely understandable. While I was up there, I asked about the birria ramen -- and surprise! They did have it! It just wasn't printed on the menu yet. We paid and were about to head out when the owner came over with a complimentary bowl of the birria ramen to try. That gesture alone made my day. The broth was light, comforting, and tasted just like something straight out of my Tía's kitchen. Absolutely fantastic. We also tried the hibiscus agua fresca, which I usually skip, but this one was so refreshing and not overly sweet -- I actually enjoyed it! I'll definitely be back soon to try their breakfast burrito. Overall: Wonderful service (especially for opening day!) I genuinely do not understand how this restaurant has such high ratings. We sat there for an entire hour, and the restaurant was practically empty except for one other table. There was absolutely no reason for the level of delay and complete lack of customer service we experienced. We were dining with two toddlers, and somehow their food was the very last to come out. They ordered chicken nuggets and carne asada tacos--nothing complicated. Their meals should have been some of the easiest and quickest dishes to get out, yet our toddlers sat waiting for an hour. Even their juices took nearly an hour to arrive. And after all that waiting, the chicken nuggets and fries looked and tasted like the cheapest frozen ones you could buy at a grocery store. To wait an hour for what appeared to be basic frozen nuggets and fries was honestly ridiculous. The rest of the food wasn't any better. The salsa tasted like ketchup, the ceviche had zero flavor, and nothing tasted fresh. We barely touched the food and ultimately left it sitting on the table. I complained directly to the owner, expecting at minimum an apology or some acknowledgment of how unacceptable the experience had been. Instead, she was incredibly dismissive. She explained that someone had just quit and that she was having to be the owner, chef, dishwasher, etc. I can sympathize with being unexpectedly short-staffed, but that does not excuse zero communication, an hour-long wait in an almost empty restaurant, poor-quality food, and terrible customer service. What bothered me most was that there was no sincere apology or effort to make things right. It was simply excuse after excuse. They came over, charged us, and we paid and left the food sitting there because it wasn't worth eating. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. andrades cafe has been an awesome addition to the peninsula neighborhood. i've been living in the peninsula for almost ten years, and have seen a few cafes come and go on 62nd street. we hope andrades is here to stay!! the family that owns it is so nice. my husband and i walk over here a few times a month, and the food is delicious, the service always friendly, and overall a good beachy vibe. we always get the crema de elote (SO GOOD a must try!!! and tbh the best thing on the menu!!) and we split the chicken pesto panini (it's a huge sandwich, good for sharing or taking home leftovers). definitely one of our go to restaurants when we aren't sure what to eat that day. definitely worth a visit if you are in (or not in) the area. read more

Tucked away on 62nd Street, the café is sleek, modern, and unassuming -- a perfect addition to the coastal neighborhood. We live in Alamitos Beach (15 minutes away, LOL), and I'm honestly jealous that locals in the area have this gem right on their block. The space is spotless and thoughtfully laid out with three seating areas: a front patio, the main dining room, and a dog‑friendly back patio. We chose the back, which is covered but open to plenty of fresh air, with netted panels that keep bugs out. Super comfortable, especially with a pup in tow. Even though the menu leans Latin-inspired, we ordered the Hawaiian Burger because it looked incredible online. It came stacked with a juicy beef patty, a thick cut of spam, grilled pineapple and onions, lettuce, tomato, cheese, and thousand island dressing -- plus crispy fries. Everything was flavorful, balanced, and perfectly cooked. We also shared the chicharrones, which were rich, meaty, and fried beautifully. They came with tortillas, guacamole, and salsa, alongside complimentary chips and a salsa trio. The charred habanero salsa was a standout! They offer a full bar and coffee service -- we went with water and a red-eye this time. A huge highlight was meeting Jorge and Nancy Andrade, who I'm pretty sure are the owners. They were genuinely warm, attentive, and welcoming. They checked on us often, offered sauce recommendations, and even spoiled our dog with treats. Their kindness truly elevated the whole experience. I was also present during this visit and wanted to share my own experience because the owner's response does not accurately reflect what happened from my perspective. The issue was not simply that my daughter was "stressed managing two toddlers." I was there the entire time. We waited approximately an hour in a nearly empty restaurant, and the children's food and drinks were among the last things to arrive. These were very simple orders, including chicken nuggets, fries, carne asada tacos, and juice. Watching two small children wait that long for their meals would be frustrating for any family. I also personally heard the explanation that the restaurant was short-staffed because someone had quit. While I understand that staffing issues happen, that does not change the experience customers actually receive. We were paying guests, and the service that day was extremely poor. The food was also genuinely disappointing. The salsa tasted like ketchup, the ceviche lacked flavor, and the chicken nuggets and fries appeared to be inexpensive frozen food rather than what we expected from a highly rated restaurant. Most of the food was left uneaten, yet we still paid and left. What bothered me most was the way our concerns were handled. Rather than making us feel heard, the response felt like explanation after explanation for why everything had gone wrong. In my view, the owner should have simply apologized and taken ownership of the issues instead of being so defensive. Reading the owner's public response now feels much the same. Being short-staffed may explain the delay, but it does not erase an hour-long wait, poor food, or an unhappy customer experience. My friend is in town and wanted to try this cute place near my house and I thought I can always eat chips. It's so rare to find a good blend of flavors, textures, and complexity in vegetarian dishes at non vegetarian restaurants but it was soooooo good! And it was just chef designed. If your looking for a good mexican food spot, this is it! The Green Chicken Pozole is easily some of the best I've ever had. We also tried the Carne Asada Tacos, and the Birria Ramen which were also really good dishes. The service was just as good as the food. You can tell they put a lot of heart into what they do. I ordered two breakfast burritos to go and was told by the owner that they would be ready in about 15 minutes. The restaurant was practically empty, so I figured it would be a quick order. Forty minutes later, we still didn't have our food. Two breakfast burritos should not take nearly an hour, especially when there are barely any customers in the restaurant. To make matters worse, the owners were very rude during the interaction, and after waiting all that time, the food wasn't even good. It didn't taste fresh and was not worth the wait at all. Nothing about the quality justified taking that long. If the kitchen is running that far behind, just be upfront with customers so they can decide whether they want to wait. Waiting 40+ minutes for two mediocre, not-fresh breakfast burritos in an empty restaurant was extremely disappointing. Would not come back. Overall restaurant was not clean. Grease was on the floor and I nearly slipped. read more

Super cute new restaurant that just opened on the Long Beach Peninsula! It was packed for their grand opening -- and I can absolutely see why. The coffee, food selection, service, and ambiance were all amazing! I love that they serve breakfast all day and have such a wide variety of dishes on the menu. I honestly had a hard time choosing because everything looked so good. I started with the Chicharrón appetizer, which did not disappoint -- the portion was bigger than expected and incredibly tasty! For my main dish, I ordered the Mojarra Frita, and it was absolutely delicious. The fish was perfectly cooked, full of flavor, and the portion size was huge! Restaurant Review: ANDRADES CAFE on the Peninsula. Wanna great tip on a delicious, affordable Father's Day meal in a fabulous location? My family moved to 63rd Place on the Peninsula in 1974 and we've watched the 62nd Place Cafe become a turnstile of failed businesses ever since it was called "Wanda's" back in the day. Well, I am happy to report that we FINALLY have the perfect storm of great food, reasonable pricing and the most picturesque post-meal stroll in the entire city of Long Beach. In a town overflowing with typical Mexican food, I just had the best fish tacos in my entire life (lightly fried white fish with tangy, homemade chipotle sauce---and I typically do not like chipotle, it's THAT good!) Moreover, Andrade's ever expanding menu is not limited to just south-of-the border. My wife had a delicious pesto panini sandwich and my well traveled and well heeled sisters went on and ON about the cheesecake flan desert, the presentation of which rivaled anything you might find at Le Opera or The Boathouse (see accompanying pic). But here's the kicker and why I will start eating here instead of "Ola" across the bay: I treated 5 people out to an early dinner and although only one of us ordered 1 glass of white wine, the total bill was only $125 ($150 with tip). That is a refreshingly affordable bill for an entire family, and then we strolled the most precious mile-long sandbar in the entire city to walk it all off. Drop by and meet Jorge and his wife in person, the nicest folks you will ever meet and they are dedicated to serving quality home-made food at an affordable price. They will even prepare a meal for you that's not even on the menu!! YES, you heard that right. Finally, I asked why there wasn't a line going around the block yet and the humble and gracious Jorge offered, "We're already popular with tourists who rent air-b&b's down here, but the locals are just starting to trust that we're here to stay and waiting for positive reviews from their neighbors before dipping their toe into the pool." Excellent on all counts. Food, service beach vibe. You can order to go and sit on the beach (or wherever) or sit inside - plenty of room for a small neighborhood restaurant. The owners, Nancy and Jorge, are super friendly and gracious. And Jorge's flan is muy delicioso! As for parking, don't listen to the haters. Some people like to complain. Welcome to the Peninsula - parking is hard to find anywhere for anyone on any given day - so don't blame the restaurant! Just go, via a car or paddle board, relax and enjoy! Highly recommend.
