Very well plated. By the end of the meal I made this beautiful plate look like a crime scene.

Hot damn. We found this place via Yelp and couldn't be happier. It's unassuming, not at all pretentious, and feels very beach community. I think it is aimed at attracting visitors like us with competitive pricing, and attracting locals with incredible food. My wife and I usually share entrees, so I got the fried fish appetizer as an entree. I ate every bite before picking apart the bones looking for every scrap. What I found was little bits behind bones, between ribs, and by the end my plate looked unrecognizable. 100% worth it. I would never have paired Mexican style fried fish with English malt vinegar. It jives. The fish is not heavily battered, so not much vinegar gets absorbed. Enter the tortillas. They hold exactly the right amount of vinegar to make each bite perfect. Cannot recommend enough. Also, the server was all over us. We never went more than about 5 minutes without at least a check in. Server was clearly very motivated to take great care of us. We split a ranch water, which I had no idea existed. It is incredible. The coffee is also off the charts. My wife took one bite of the chilaquiles we got to share as an entree and wouldn't give me any. The nerve of some people! She insists it's good, and I believe her. Oh, even the chips and salsa was crazy good. All in all, well worth a visit. Looks and feels off the beaten path but was surprisingly easy to get to.

    The Ceviche! Smokey and yummy!

My church friend & I hung out at the beach on Wednesday and then came by here for a late lunch! I can't believe I've never known about this place! It's cute, smells good and family owned! Definitely coming back to try other things. I had the elote. It was yummy and was like a corn chowder with a little spice kick! Mmm! We shred the queso fundido. Great with the chips! My friend had the ceviche. Presentation was awesome! It tasted Smokey and different but delicious! Must try! Thanks guys!

We stopped by this great little place on the LB Peninsula for coffee this morning. We had an amazing time conversing with the owner and some locals. The latte I ordered was delicious and perfectly crafted. They are open at 8am for coffee and/or breakfast. They stay open until 8pm, serving lunch and dinner. The menu has lots of options, both Mexican and American food. I have met both the husband and wife owners...super nice people!! The cafe has a really nice feel and is quite pleasant. There is indoor and patio seating. I look forward to coming back for a meal soon! We like to get our coffee and then walk the ocean side Boardwalk ‍

    Ceviche and Hawaiian pizza

I visit here with my friends yesterday morning as we saw a cafe hidden in the Belmont Shore neighborhood, we finally decided to check it out and I'm glad we did. One of the hidden gems here in Long Beach is a small little sit down Mexican restaurant that serves amazing dishes and the BEST Cafe de Olla I have ever tasted. We ordered Ceviche and also had order Pepperoni and Hawaiian Pizza (I know, different palettes) but they were both REALLY good.... We got a chance to speak with owner Jorge, he was very welcoming and humble. He puts a great amount of effort and care into his cafe and his dishes. From today, it's been about 7 months that this location has opened. I would be coming back here and I would HIGHLY recommend this place when you are nearby! The staff was also amazing and attentive, a huge shout out to the team and a big thanks for welcoming me and my friends to this spot.

I was sad to see the old location gone, but boy oh boy did Long Beach score with this new restaurant! The people here were so kind and welcoming. The location and ambiance is also beautiful. Food and service is reviewed below. We came in on Mother's Day weekend and they were offering moms a complimentary glass of champagne. I thought that was such a nice touch. We arrived as a party of 3 while a larger party arrived a few moments after us. We needed a second to look through the menu before ordering but with that quick second, we ended up waiting quite some time as the server solely focused on the larger party. That was a bit disappointing for this thirsty and hungry mama but luckily we flagged someone else down and they took care of us immediately the whole rest of the time. The food is authentic Mexico flavors meaning it can be light or heavy, spicy or creamy, but fully satisfying. We did Benedicts, chilaquiles, and kids pancakes. All things we'd order again!! I can't wait to return for other items on their menu like their crema de elote or fideo soup!!! I highly recommend for casual dining but especially for a special occasion! Their indoor patio is gorgeous for photos and parties. They'll Also make your day feel even more special.

    Birria Ramen

Andrade's deserves all the stars and is one of my new favorite places in Long Beach. It's located on the peninsula, and tucked away down a side street right by the bay, so you have to know about it because you're not likely to stumble upon it. As soon as you step inside you're warmly greeted by the staff or one of the owners. It's a great place to stop in for any type of beverage, from their full-service coffee station, to the grab-and-go drink fridge, to a fun alcoholic drink. In addition to that, they are a full service restaurant serving breakfast and the lunch/dinner menu all day. For my first visit, we sat on the back patio for brunch. I had a chai tea and the birria ramen. The meat was exquisitely tender and the broth had so much flavor. On my second visit, we stopped in for an iced strawberry matcha while on a bike ride and took it just a few steps down the block to the water to enjoy. It had plenty of strawberry and was simply lovely. I look forward to returning because there's so many more items on the extensive menu that I want to try.

STEPH JUDGEMENT: Good food, great service. A friend introduced me to this place. She'd stumbled upon it on a walk down on the peninsula. Since it's on a side street, it doesn't have the best visibility to the casual observer. It has a nice ambiance--clean and modern but still homey and inviting, but the service is what really elevated it for me. Andrade himself was there, greeting customers and checking up on things. All the staff were very friendly, as were the patrons, a lot of whom seemed to be locals. I had the avocado toast, which came with 2 eggs your way on top, along with a side salad. I also got a hot latte, which was perfectly made. I'm looking forward to my next visit!

Back for another visit! Sorry I didn't get photos this time :) My husband had to give it a try. So we did our Sunday walk with the dog & stopped in for breakfast My husband had a breakfast burrito- said it was great ! I changed up my order & tried their breakfast burger protein style . So good & their fried are crispy and good. We ordered two beers ..... don't judge it was almost 11 am Ice cold & good. Service is always friendly and good. Our dog enjoyed her doggie treat too.

Such a lovely cafe by the beach! I kept it simple and ordered a croissant and a vanilla iced latte, and both were absolutely delicious. The croissant was perfectly flaky and the latte had just the right balance of sweetness and coffee. What really made the experience stand out though was the staff. They were incredibly friendly, welcoming, and so attentive to our large group of moms and toddlers. Anyone who's ever gone out with little kids knows it can be a lot, but they were patient, kind, and made us feel completely comfortable being there. Great food, great coffee, and genuinely great service. Such a positive experience. I'll definitely be coming back!

Omelette plate with iced Cafe de Olla.

Was in the Long Beach area looking for somewhere to grab breakfast and, based on the prior reviews and location, decided to try it out. Since it was on the strand in Seal Beach, I was looking forward to having an ocean or bay view. Unfortunately, that was not the case. The restaurant is on the bay side of Ocean Avenue on a mostly residential street - so no ocean view. It also looks like a converted surf or apparel shop that is nestled in between a couple of other buildings - so no bay view either. It was just kinda shoehorned in between a couple of buildings with no windows or view whatsoever. So, initial expectations: shattered. I ordered the omelette with sausage and an iced Cafe de Olla. The Cafe de Olla came first. It was... unusual. Weak flavored and watered down, it tasted more like an unsweetened iced tea with a hint of cinnamon than the Cafe de Olla I have enjoyed elsewhere. Thankfully, a carafe of ice water was also available to wash it down with. The omelette came next. The omelette seemed to be made inside out. The sausage was certainly on the inside, but the cheese was melted on the outside - which was unusual. It was served with beans and home fries (basically, minimally-seasoned standard restaurant supply potato chunks). I was offered the option of tortillas and salsa (both of which I accepted). The omelette was fairly bland - like eating a pan of fried scrambled eggs with sausage. The home fries were similarly underwhelming. Where the plate shone was in the beans. I basically ended up having bites of the other stuff with beans to give it any flavor. Maybe I didn't order something the house does particularly well or something, but the dish was overall just meh. Since I was the only customer at the time (weekday morning) service was not an issue. The gentleman who was working appeared to be an owner or manager who was doing his books while also serving as waiter. So, overall, it was simply an average experience. Again, maybe I just ordered something that wasn't a house specialty, but it just didn't seem to meet my expectations based on what I read in other reviews.

    Quesa Birria Tacos
    Elsa S.

Hidden Gem on the Peninsula! My husband and I biked down to the peninsula today to check out this new spot -- mostly because I had to try their birria ramen I'd been hearing about on social media. Even though the place was packed, we were seated right away. The menu is surprisingly extensive -- everything from Mexican favorites like chilaquiles and enchiladas to American breakfast, burgers, and hot dogs. However, to my disappointment, the birria ramen wasn't listed. I went for the Quesabirria lunch plate instead, which came with three tacos and a side of consomé for dipping. The tacos were messy (in the best way!) and absolutely delicious -- tender meat and a rich, flavorful broth. At one point I had to get up to ask for napkins, but honestly, it's their first day open and that's completely understandable. While I was up there, I asked about the birria ramen -- and surprise! They did have it! It just wasn't printed on the menu yet. We paid and were about to head out when the owner came over with a complimentary bowl of the birria ramen to try. That gesture alone made my day. The broth was light, comforting, and tasted just like something straight out of my Tía's kitchen. Absolutely fantastic. We also tried the hibiscus agua fresca, which I usually skip, but this one was so refreshing and not overly sweet -- I actually enjoyed it! I'll definitely be back soon to try their breakfast burrito. Overall: Wonderful service (especially for opening day!) Great food and big menu selection Beer and wine coming soon Parking can be tricky, so plan accordingly. A great addition to the peninsula -- can't wait to see this place thrive!

Small Mexican American restaurant, big heart in the peninsula of Long Beach, CA

I recently sent my friend's family over to your restaurant and they had nothing but great things to say about the service and the food. You guys never let anyone down. Good Mexican food Thanks again

    Deep fried ice cream
    Micki W.

Five stars all around from greeting to service to food! The chips and salsa are so good. The salsa reminds me of one from a favorite restaurant in my childhood and I had yet to find that flavor profile again, until now! The white mocha latte was both beautiful and delicious. The omelette plates were perfect. And, that deep fried ice cream was so good that I ate half...okay two thirds...maybe three quarters. Don't judge me! Get some of it and you'll see!

I stopped by on a Friday afternoon and waited about 20 minutes for a table. The wait was well worth it because each dish offered an explosion of flavors. My favorite dish was the birria, with the salmon ceviche as a close second. The mole was great too, but I'd say the other two dishes were more memorable and something I'd return for. I can't recommend the birria enough, as the flavors were reminiscent of what I've had in Mexico, very authentic. The space is small and can feel a bit tight, but sometimes the best food comes from these types of "hole in the wall" places. Ultimately, I'd say give Lola's a try! The soup here lacks the tastebud awakening zip that Don Chato's has. The ono fish taco experience was my fault... I hate fried fish taco, so I had lofty expectations, but due to the fact that I do not prefer corn tortillas, guacamole or raw onions, led to much disappointment since It has all three. Totally my fault. The butternut enchilada was lacking in the expected savoriness... this is being polite. The potato taquito was okay... but I am not a taquito person, so if you are I would seriously encourage you to try it. The star of the table was the Mexican corn. It may not compete with Cornman in Lincoln Heights, but it was decent. I scraped off the onions and toppings on the ono tacos, put the fish on the flour tortillas that another person didn't want, and topped the fish with refried beans, street corn and a but if the chicken tortilla soup broth to make due. When you are driving more than 30 minutes for this experience, I think you would agree that it was less that a proper way to celebrate a birthday. Oh and if there isn't any street parking. It'll cost you about 9 bucks in the lot. I didn't use the restroom, so I cant review its cleanliness. Our waitress was flawless taking orders and delivering food The restaurant itself has a great layout and an outdoor courtyard complete with propane heaters and umbrellas - I loved that... but my favorite part was out front, no not the seating area in the former parking spaces, nope... it was the collapsed woman on the sidewalk, walking her dog with snot running out of her nose because she was huffing some aerosol can of whatever. This truly set the mood upon arrival. Two stars for being close to a lot of other food choices to visit afterward.

Palapa next door offers the same food menu but has more drink options. Many opted for outdoor seating on the terrace due to the gorgeous views, but not wanting to wait we agreed to indoor seating. The interior of the restaurant is also very beautiful. The bathrooms were too dark for my tastes though. Our waitress was absolutely phenomenal, super friendly and anticipating all of our needs (water refills, leftover containers, etc.). Service overall by all staff was friendly. We were actually presently surprised with the taste of the food, thinking it might be more Americanized but they actually had very authentic and tasty totopos (tortilla chips). The tomato salsa that came with the chips was also very refreshing. We asked for hot sauce too and the house habanero salsa really packed a punch! We ordered carne asada nachos, pork belly chilaquiles (from the brunch menu), a breakfast burrito, poke, and steamed clams. The steamed clams came in a rich tomato broth and the breakfast burrito was massive. The poke was just okay and the chilaquiles a bit too soggy for me, and the carne asada nachos a bit dry. Nonetheless, presentation and portion sizes were respectable. The last comment is that food here is quite pricey but that reflects the likely high rent of a restaurant in 2nd and PCH. Ola still exceeded expectations and provided a more than pleasant meal.

Hola amigos, today's adventure brought me to Long Beach Ca…read more Los Compadres is NOT you ordinary run of the mill Mexican restaurant, no sir, do not dare to place this restaurant with thoes, how dare you sir I've always said, Mexican food is poor food, it all the same meat, veggies, cheese and tortilla. If you can afford a steak, you eat the steak, if not cut that one steak and make burritos not much meat, make tacos, less meat, make flautas/taqueros, less than that quesadillas with some meat. You get what i mean. But this high end Mexican restaurant made me a liar! This high end Mexican restaurant doesn't make poor food, this place make food for kings! Every dish is savory every order id above and beyond, to even sit in this wonderful place you feel the like this is what the rich must eat in Mexico, no my friend this is elegance the service is as if your a celebrity and they are working had to keep your business. When you come, and I hope you do, come with respect because the food earned it. The ambiance: Walking in decore, the furniture make you feel like a wealthy rancher like Kevin Costner will walk in at any time. Packed almost always. The food: beyond description but I will try. When ever you see café dela hoja, order it! If you like cinnamon this is coffee made at its best, no sugar or creamer needed, wonderful magical brood to have you sit and see the world around you better, brighter, sweeter. I has chorizo and eggs and a flank steak. Better then mama's.

We came to celebrate two birthdays with a party of 15, and unfortunately, the service was extremely disappointing. Our server Enrique barely came around, and even when we thanked him, we received no response or acknowledgment. Customer service has just gone down the drain! At the end of our dinner, after spending over $600 as a group, my husband mentioned that we were celebrating two birthdays. The server's response was, "Well, I will have to charge you for two cakes because you didn't tell me on time." My husband paid for the cakes, of course, but the way the situation was handled was very disappointing and left a bad impression. We chose this restaurant to celebrate a special occasion, especially because we have been coming here for years, and unfortunately, the experience took away from what should have been a happy celebration. With a large party and a bill combined of over $600, we expected much better service and hospitality. Very disappointing experience, especially after coming here for years. Unfortunately we will not be coming back.

Unfortunately, we didn't have a reservation, and it was an hour wait, so we went to the bar. A couple was just getting up, so we snagged the table. Our waitress was excellent. She brought us menus, water and were given hot chips with fresh delicious salsa. We ordered the happy hour margaritas and they were perfect to start things off. I ordered the shrimp enchiladas with green tomatillo sauce. The shrimp were big, the sauce was yummy, and the rice and beans were very good. Everyone else was happy with their order. Our waitress quickly ran up the check, as she knew we needed to get to a concert. She was always friendly and helpful to us. We enjoyed our meals, We will be back.

Me trying to decide between the asada burrito or the nachos and they bartender said go with the burrito.I went with the red chile, it comes with cream sauce, served with a thin layer of beans, sautéed onions, cilantro, topped with monterey Jack and mozzarella cheese. Very good tasty burrito. A couple at the bar who sat next be me was offered tortilla chips and salsa by another waiter. I was not offered this. It would be been a nice add. They did keep my soda glass filled so i appreciate that. For dessert i tried the churros with ice cream. Ice cream came pretty melted already lol i understand it was more hot in the resturant than outside for some weird reason. I had to eat it fast but the churros were delicous! Bar area is nice, they have TV's to which the games. The place was like 80% filled, good vibe here! Food rating: Asada Burrito Plate 7.5\10 Churros and Ice cream 8.0\10
