Somebody needs to say this for all the vegetarians out there (all 5 of us currently living in San Marcos). My tacos were not vegetarian, despite the fact that I ordered potato, egg, and cheese. They had been cooked in a pan filled with bacon grease, and you could see little flecks of bacon residue in the eggs. I got very sick a couple hours after eating breakfast there and had to miss class for the rest of the day. I was not happy. If their eggs are cooked in bacon they're likely a place with lard in their beans so I'm doubtful we have any safe bets there. I'm sure this is a great place if you don't have this issue with it, but as a representative for vegetarians, I must say don't even try it because you will be disappointed and thoroughly grossed out. read more

You won't die satisfied in breakfast until you visit this rare gem of a taco hut. It's located right in front of their own carwash across the street from Bobcat Stadium. They have two drive through, one on each side of their little hut. Lola, the owner is fabulous. She'll remember your name when you come by. She packs the most rich and flavorful ingredients, staff members and fresh tortillas in her little 15x15 foot hut. They have a walk up window as well. The line of cars in both drive thru's will extend into the street as will the line of people at the main window. WHY? Because this is the best damn taco hut in Texas. I use to be a huge fan of Lolitas, as I've lived in SM since 2007, she always had the best taco stand in town. However, as of lately, the quality of the tacos have declined (flavor, quality of food, etc.) And what's even worse..the past 3-4 times I've gone the drive-thru and ordered at the window, my (typically 1-2 taco) order has been wrong every time! Oftentimes it's the owner herself taking my order, yet she still gets it wrong! I went earlier this morning before work and asked for a potato, bacon, and cheese on corn...what did I get?...a bean and cheese on corn!!? I'm sorry Lolita, but if you don't take the time to care about getting peoples orders correct..people won't come back! If ya'll haven't tried Lucy's tacos right down the street on Aquarena, you definitely should! San Marcos has been one part retirement community, and one part college student party barn. The town has ups and downs, but on the food side more often than not I've been disappointed. I found Lolita's breakfast tacos in every coffee shop in town. Everyone has their preference, but for me breakfast is all about the frijoles. In this sense, Lolita's Cafe has the best bean based breakfast taco I've ever had... the black bean and cheese taco with their salsa is a perfect way to start the morning. Soothes hangovers and the spicy salsa will wake you up before class. Don't be a putz waiting in your car blocking traffic, park and go up to the window... it's faster anyway. If it's before 9am, chances are there are still some tacos left at the coffee shops in town so that's another way to skip the line and get your taco fix. read more

At first glance this place looked like a run down In-and-Out burger. Luckily, looks can be deceiving. After being up till 4:30 am and waking up to drive down and float the river 4 hours later from Austin, I stumbled across this gem of a breakfast taco heaven. I knew this place was going to be good when I saw two things. The first, when I looked through their order menu I saw a bunch of Hispanic women moving with lightning speed cooking up taco after taco. Even a lady with a cast on her arm was cooking up a storm.... that's dedication or a need to pay the rent, either way awesome. Also I noticed actual Hispanic people ordering in Spanish. Any Mexican place that has real Mexicans ordering from it you know is legit. Its like an unwritten rule. Every time I go here, I get potato, bean, and cheese. And every time I feel like I'm biting into a raw potato. Their potatoes are never cooked fully and aren't even hot or seasoned well. I prefer the tacos at Los Vega. Also, they have a huge liability for people having accidents in their drive through line. If you're coming from Aquarina then you might be lined up on the main road. I LOVE LOLITAS!!! Best breakfast tacos around. I'm highly, highly addicted to my "usual": a bean and cheese breakfast taco and a carne guisada taco. Their carne guisada is so good it's what I base ALL my carne guisada experiences on. They include avocado and pico on the carne guisada and it's just delicious. This place is literally just a little house that you drive up to, order, and leave. It gets CRAZY busy, and has a line wrapped around it pretty much all day (7am-3 pm, I believe).
