My dad passed away in his vehicle at the end of March 2026 I was unable to locate his van until a week or more later. And I was told by a female at Lombard's that I had to go through probate to get his personal items. Unbeknownst to me, I went to New Haven probate who said I needed to go to the town where my father's license was located. Long story short, the lady behind the glass said that I needed to pay storage fees to obtain my deceased father's possessions. I found out that there is a law that says I should be able to get the stuff for free and they can keep the car. read more

I am absolutely REPULSED by the service this company offers, I have never dealt with a somebody doing business so obviously devious. My car got towed in the storm and I immediately called to go pick it up. The woman on the phone said my car was not in the system yet so I could not pick it up before she went home. She said there was an extra 26$ fee for storage over eight hours. Using basic logic, I said no I will pay the 180$ towing fee, your business is not stealing $26 extra dollars from me because your drivers did not do their job efficiently and avoiding it is not possible to me. She proceeded to repeat herself like a broke record, blaming me for owing extra money. She was not willing to work with my situation because I parked somewhere it was banned to do so, when where you can and cant park changes every day in most spots and I just got confused. I am certain that is the case with so many of us. Additionally, I know they are making so much money towing cars in New Haven during this 4 day parking ban AND there is no way they only stole this fee from me. I will be reporting this business to the BBB, federal consumer protection, and the state of CT. I will be getting my 26$ back. Also, 180$ to tow a car down the block... that's not right. I've been hit by parking bans and it was 125$ ... something is up with this. Run from Lombard motors if you can, Id give negative stars if I could. If you require AAA roadside service make sure your ticket isn't assigned to Lombard Motors unless you want Lombard to do whatever work is needed on your car. Otherwise they will leave you stranded! This operator will accept your ticket to supposedly be towed to the service station or other location of your choice but when they arrive to pick up your car they try to strong arm you into taking your vehicle back to their service station. If you hold your ground and insist on your original location they will make some crazy excuse and take off without cancelling the ticket (which means you just used up one of your three allowed free tows per year). Sometimes they'll stare at your photo ID, AAA card and registration looking for an out (maybe you are still using your old AAA card, or the registration on your window is valid but you never changed the wallet card -- they will use either as an excuse to bail). Or if you have a VW or Audi or other non-standard car they'll claim they don't have the correct metric tool to tow you or jump you, or the right jack to change the tire (even though you have the one that came with the car) or that your lugs are rusty or whatever. And be super-rude about it. They also will accept a long distance towing job (state-to-state) with zero intention of going there. You will be told instead that they have to take your car to their garage to be stored overnight and that the trip will resume the next day (but the next day they pretend this wasn't the agreement). I live less than two blocks away from this place and AAA customer service keeps assigning me and my neighbors to Lombard by default, no matter how many times I and my neighbors we complain. Theoretically if you request road service by phone instead of using their automated system you can prevent this from happening by simply telling AAA customer service NOT to use Lombard. But if AAA is overbooked (as they nearly always are) they will give it to Lombard anyway. Note that Lombard's current rating at the Better Business Bureau is also one out of five stars, just like it is on Yelp! (see jpg). My son was treated very poorly here, after my car was towed while he was driving it. He made a complaint to the BBB, Maryam in the office decided to call me, I'm not even the one who complained! She called me twice to tell me my son complained. What in the unprofessionalism is that about? Calling someone's mother, because that was the only number on file, is bizarre. In the past 48 hours I went through hell and back ever since two days ago (March 15, 2024) my car broke down and I needed a tow to get myself from Ct to where I live in the Bronx. I drive a 1980 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme and it broke down on me on the side of the road nearby exit 9 on I-91. On that night I pulled off to the side and I had to let my car cool off since it was smoking due to the oil in the car leaking. Eventually I made it back to my girlfriend's house since that was my destination I took my time to get there because of the state of the vehicle. I decided the next day in the morning, (March 16, 2024), I will wake up early and call Triple A to get my car towed from my girlfriends house to my House located in the Bronx. Around 9:20 in the morning, I made the call to AAA and told them what had happened and explained to them coherently that I needed a flatbed and it was me and my brother that needed to ride with the driver to get back home. I spoke to a Lady named Sam and she said she notated all the details that I told her. She said in about an hour that I will receive a call and text message. In about 15-20 minutes I got a call from LOMBARD MOTORS saying that they'll be there to pick the car up. When the time came and the man was outside, I went out to greet him and already, the man had an attitude as I went to greet and shake his hand, he refused me. I knew off the bat I was going to get a terrible experience. He told me my brother could not come with me even tho I told the triple A lady it was me and someone else, but he refused to let my brother get on. I said okay fine let me just ride with this dude and get back home and I'll pay for a train ticket for my brother to come back. He hooked up my vehicle with a disgust face like he was mad at the world. I sat in the passenger seat with him and thought I was going to go back home. Boy oh boy I was wrong. The man stops at NELCON SERVICE CENTER and as I asked him why are you stopping here I need to go back to the Bronx. He disregarded me and with attitude told me he wasn't going to do it. Mind you I specifically notated to Triple A I need to go back to the Bronx as I AM A PREMIER MEMBER AND THE TRIP MET THE REQUIREMENTS as it was 70 MILES out of the 100 limit. With distain, The man refused to answer me and told me that his boss wanted him to drop my car off there which I found out was total Bullshit. It was because the man did not want to take that trip and gave the situation to NELCON. Now I'm 18 and this was my first experience dealing with Triple A and my car broke down and now Im being denied my services to be taken back home. I was confused and felt like as it rains it just pours, things kept getting worse and worse. Now as I found out, this asshole dropped my car off at NELCON which is ILLEGAL TO DO SO since he went on there private property and wasted one out of the four trips that I have with Triple A. (Now I have to call corporate tmmr to make sure they were not paid for that one trip and that one trip this asshole took with my car only for like 5 miles doesn't count on my record). Thankfully with the help of the lady (I forgot her name) and a gentleman that was there, they were just as confused and I was as to why my car was being dropped at the service center instead of it going back to my house. I explained to them what had happened and they told me normally they didn't do this but due to my situation they were going to help me out. It was like a breath of fresh air dealing with the NELCON staff it showed that they actually cared and wanted to help out. They went to call AAA on there end to let them get the job now to take me back and I didn't know this but the towing Industry is worse then high school with the drama when it comes to situations like this, since NELCON told me this wasn't the first time LOMBARD did this to them. AAA said that SAM the lady I was talking to put in the record to drop the vehicle off at NELCON which was complete utter bullshit since I don't even know where NELCON was. I was on my way from Florida to Nova Scotia in my 2000 VW Jetta when I ran over a tire tread from a truck. It did substantial damage to the underside of my car. I called Lombardo from my motel and they told me to come buy and they would see what they could do. They were very busy but due to the urgency of the situation, they took me in at about 9:30 am. the motor mount was broken and the motor had dropped about 6 inches. they were able to repair the mount, fix the exhaust and get me underway within about 2 hours. I highly recommend the shop. very professional and reasonable cost. read more

My car was towed by the City of New Haven which Lombard works for because of street leaf cleaning. (What a predatory racket!) I had to track down the tow truck driver who reluctantly told me where to get my car. I found a co-worker to drive me out of New Haven to Lombard Motors. When I got there they were disrespectful and in no hurry to have me reunited with my car. When I went into the lot and started to drive my car out, the gates of the lot automatically closed and I stuck there. I called for help and one of the tow truck drivers was able to open the gate. A thoroughly miserable experience and $125 towing bill. read more

If I could give this place no stars that's exactly what I would do because that's what they deserve. Had a vehicle towed there as a result of an accident on a weekend. Needed to retrieve important items out of the vehicle that were much needed prior to the work day on Monday. Called this trash hole of a place to inquire about retrieving my items and they would not allow me to retrieve them without paying for the tow, and stated that if I was going through insurance (which I am) they'd need the claim number. I offered the claim number but they needed it to come from the insurance agent. Claim was reported via my insurance app and a claim number was provide but speaking to an agent on a Sunday was not going to happen. Explained that to the rude woman on the phone and after inquiring about the cost of the tow, she transferred me to a male. I stated my case to him and he allowed me to come down with my identification to retrieve my items. I had a feeling this place would be a problem to deal with when I looked it up online after seeing where the vehicle had been towed and saw the negative reviews. FYI it is against the law if a tow company has your car and you are looking to get it back as long as you do not owe anything (repo/impound) whether they are closed they have to allow to get back your car once you pay their tow fee. Not this company they had my car for 6 hours and I tried to get it back and they were acting as if they were closed so that they can get me for storage fees. The manager is rude and is a racist had to call the cops in order for me to get my car back. If I can give no stars I would. AAA used this company to tow my car and my experience with Nick from beginning to end was terrible!!! At some points I was trying to gauge whether he was professional but no not at all. I wanted to get towed to Brooklyn and he told me no one would be available (Saturday) until next day and I needed to get to Brooklyn ASAP. So I called AA again inquiring about another company he kept checking on me to make sure I wasn't calling AAA saying we are the only company who services this area so I HAD to wait for him. He even put a spare tire on saying he took it from a junk car but once another company came he's like I'm taking my spare back lol so petty but I didn't care because I had a spare in my truck. So sad that my first review is a negative one, but I digress... The short story: they overcharge for tows. $125 instead of CT max allowable $88. I was towed by Lombard Motors last night. I noticed the tow truck pulling away with my truck behind him and ran out of the restaurant after him. Luckily he got stopped at a red and I was able to catch him before he left the area. The charge was $125. That seemed high to me but I had not been towed for some time, and I wanted my car back so we weren't stranded in Hamden. He was nice enough to wait while I told my date (who had followed me outside) what was going on, and then to give me ride to the ATM. So basically I paid $125 for a tow to the ATM less than a mile away. After getting home I checked CT's DMV site (http://www.ct.gov/dmv/cwp/view.asp?a=799&Q=245370) The maximum allowable tow rate is actually $88 plus mileage ($4.75 a mile in excess of the first two miles). I called back the next day and asked about the overcharging. The boss (?) said that Lombard's was able to choose between $88+miles, or $125. He also asked if it was private property, something the driver had done too, suggesting that private property tows are able to be charged at a higher rate. That is also not true per the DMV site. I then called the DMV's complaint line and was told that the $125 was only applicable for 'special labor' like winches or snow banks. There was nothing special going on in the KFC parking lot that night. I called him back and told him what the DMV said. His response: "file a complaint if you want" and after a curt "have a nice day" he hung up. So, my complaining starts here. Beware all yelpers! *And of course, this review is from the perspective of a non-consensual towee. If I had requested the tow, I would have likely appreciated their nicely equipped trucks and efficiently speedy drivers, but I digress.... read more

You don't really have a choice when they tow your car, but as a business you would hope they have a sense of common decency towards their "clients," voluntary or not. First, after noticing my car get towed, I called them and they told me they'd call me right back. Hours passed, and I never heard from them. So I called again, someone else answered, and this time they were able to arrange for someone to be there, since it was after 6pm. "In 10 minutes" they said. I took a taxi there, got there on time, and there was no one there, even though the sign said "open." I waited 20 minutes more, called the office again, they said sorry, there was some police emergency, it would be perhaps 10 minutes more. Finally, a tow truck arrived, but the guy said there was a police emergency and they had to go right back out, screwing me over and leaving me there alone again. An hour after I originally arrived, someone else finally came and was able to process my payment even though he apparently had no idea i was waiting. I Never, never, ever use this service. read more

My car broke down on Merritt parkway at 6 am. State trooper was nice and called tow company that was on duty since aaa doesn't allow for you car to be picked up off the highway. Tow company came I got in the car with driver and we drove to my house to my house so that both myself and the car could be dropped off. When at my house tow truck driver told me he couldn't accept cash payment since no one was at the tow yard for him to give my payment to (he said he was just a contracted employee for another company) so he couldn't take my payment told me I can get my car in the morning and just pay the $90 tow fee. This happened at at 6am called them at 10am and no one was there called them at noon and they game me the run around about me picking up my car and about the $160 fee that was due. Person that I spoke to was rude hung up on me due to me asking him questions about the fees. I called him back and him and my bf exchanged some words. I called told them I was picking up my car before they closed and person that answered the phone told me I had to come back on Monday since they were going to a wedding and mind you they are closed on Sunday. I HAD TO CALL THE HAMDEN POLICE DEPARTMENT TO GET MY CAR FROM THEM!!!! They had me and the office wait for over a hour for me to get my car and they still didn't want to give it to me even with me paying my $160 bill. The office has to call dispatch to get these guys to their shop, the officer told the guy that pulled up to give me my car back because he wasn't coming back over here to deal with it. Would give negative stars if possible. My vehicle was illegally towed by Lombard Motors out of a private parking lot. When I went to go retrieve my car the first lady I talked to refused to check and see if the vehicle was actually registered with the parking lot and also proceeded to give me false towing laws, I found this out when I later went and looked them up for myself. When I asked to speak to her boss she actually got him on the phone than refused to let me speak to him. She than told me to pay and get my vehicle or I get nothing so I retrieved my vehicle and was told to come back the next day to talk to someone else about it. When I returned and spoke with Maryanne we were told it would be handled but I called back a week later she had completely forgotten about everything and seemed to not want to be bothered with it anymore. I used Lombard Motors before in the past and had a good experience. But, this experience was awful mainly from the customer service from the "Manager" Steve. When I attempted to give information of what happened, Steve cut me off and then proceeded to tell me the extra damage to my vehicle after the tow was not his drivers fault. Without blame, I asked Steve for his manager's information to explain to someone else what took place due to his tone and annoyance in his voice. I was told the owner ie his a manger was out on vacation for 2 weeks. I then asked Steve for the owners name so I knew who to ask for in 2 weeks and was told I could not be given their name at all I then asked Steve for his name and was told no and that if I came in "everyone" knew who he was. Horrible establishment hosted by horrible people. My boyfriend's car was towed here after a fender bender nearby. It took them four days to clearly tell him what documents were required to recover his vehicle- he would return and they would then tack on another document that was needed, etc. They claimed he needed a notarized bill of sale so we took it to a public notary who was confused why it needed to be notarized when there was no signature line or any point that said it needed to be notarized on the bill of sale. All while this was going on Lombard was racking up each over night storage fee of the car. Eventually the cost to retrieve the vehicle was too high and he had to forfeit the car to Lombard. Still, they tried to charge him to forfeit the car, but there was nothing on the CT DMV website that dictated this was lawful. Atop it all, each different employee and the manager we interacted with were very rude. When we pressed for details on where it stated under CT law that they could charge us this way, they responded very passively and vaguely like "this is just the way it is." Now reading other Yelpers accounts of overcharging I can comfortably urge anyone considering Lombard away from giving them your service.
