I have been a long time loyal customer of the establishment for many years and where as in the past I have given them 5 star reviews, unfortunately as of my recent experiences my rating has changed and they have lost a customer. I recently brought my Lexus there telling them the a/c was blowing heat and I need it fixed. They called me back to tell me that my car had a several zones that needed to be checked and that at paying them an hourly rate I'd potentially be looking at spending thousands to repair it. I was also told that because my car was older (2009) that I may not want to spend money repairing it. I was charged a diagnoses and asked to pick up my car. I brought it home and googled how to fix it myself. With spending less than $100 and less than 10 minutes of labor, I changed the cabin filter ( packed with dirt & leaves), I popped the hood and cleared where the air flow foes into the car ( packed with dirt & leaves) and put in a can of refrigerant. What do you know, my a/c now works perfectly. I brought the same Lexus to them a few weeks ago to fix a shaking coming from the front driver side that caused a light to come on the dash. They called me back to tell me that my car had 4 codes, something going on with my exhaust and as far as the front end I needed struts of which they could only find 1 at a cost of $1000. And again told my car isn't worth investing in/ charged me a $131 diagnostic fee for a incorrect diagnoses. I took it to a mechanic on State st. in New Haven who for $1000 fixed my front and threw in a oil change.. The crazy part was I DIDN'T NEED STRUTS!!!! Aside from I replaced both air filters under the hood and what do you know.. NO MORE CODES!!! I recently brought my BMW X5 there to be repaired for going into limp mode. After about 3 visits and $100's spent on they're guessing, I never got 2 miles of driving out of it. I took the truck to State St. and by my explaining the problem without the truck with me, he told me I had a bad throttle body. Less than $400 later my truck is back on the road like it never left. I brought my mothers Jeep Liberty there to repair the heat/ charged $100's and 2 weeks later she has no heat. I sent my sister there to have her Hyundai Sonata, they told her the repair cost would exceed the value of the vehicle and that she should consider buying another car. She took the car to State St. and for a fraction of what Bruneau's was charging, put in another engine and had her back on the road in a couple of days.. I've been riding with this business for years, recommending them to several people over the years and how I've been dealt with lately is unfortunate but my business and support isn't valued there. I've learned that either I'm a better mechanic than they are (I'm not a mechanic) or they put forth no effort in fixing my cars. read more

WARNING! DISASTROUS MACHINE MOVERS!!! Bruneau's Garage was hired to move a 2000 pound Milling Machine from Milford to Fairfield. They advertised as "Professional Machine Movers". Bruneau's was hired to move a heavy machine into our garage and I explained there was no loading dock or forklift to offload the machine. Having owned a machine shop and with experience of moving dozens of heavy machinery I specifically gave them instructions not to use a flatbed truck. When the flatbed arrived with one driver I immediately contacted the supervisor to cancel the delivery. I was gruffly told the worker was qualified. Ten minutes later the machine had tipped over the end of the truck and was spewing toxic hydraulic fluid onto my driveway. The machine was DESTROYED. I immediately called the supervisor back to get help as the fluid was damaging the asphalt and we needed a spill absorber. His response was to demand $3000 to send a second truck. I informed him I was not going to pay for his mistake and he threatened he would drive down himself to collect the money. I explained I would call the police and report the chemical spill to DEEP unless he resolved the spillage. A few hours later a second truck arrived and did bring an oil absorber. Unfortunately the damage was done. A $3000 machine was destroyed and completely unusable. The driveway needed a $1000 repair. I was stressing out about my truck when my engine blew up as it's my house and my business and my office is on the west coast with all my mechanic friends. The Forman gave me options and that calmed me down so I went with it. The driver showed up with a sturdy looking truck and knew what he was doing. The temperature was around zero and on the way to the shop that I was being towed to the drivers radio was communicating with the other drivers and they were busy! I then was told about the profit margin in the tow business and it is about the same as mine.. I always thought that they just rolled around in money! This is the best garage! I have lived in CT for about 10 years and I have had a very challenging job finding a garage that is honest, helpful, and effective in their work. My husband and I used to live in West Haven and we have since moved to Seymour, but I still travel to Bruneau's because they are the best. I only go to this garage. They are always organized and running smoothly, and everyone working there clearly wants to be there and is knowledgeable and working as a team. They have always been really helpful and mindful of my tight budget, and I appreciate that they always check in before doing something that you hadn't already approved. Also they don't take it personally if you don't want to follow their suggestions; they really are professional and are fantastic at problem-solving. I had to call AAA tonight and they sent your driver Julian. This guy is awesome and deserves a raise. He was earlier than anticipated and the first thing he did was introduce himself. He offered to actually try and fix the problem right there but once he realized that wasn't going to happen he was able hook up my truck and get it on the street on front of my house (on a one way street mind you) with precision. Highway robbery! Our bus bottomed out on the Univ. of New Haven campus (3 minutes from their location) The police called them. They came and did a great job getting our bus out in a timely manner. Then they told the driver to follow them to their location. As our driver pulled in they pinned the bus in with their wrecker then gave us the price.... $1,648.43. Then they told us we weren't going anywhere until they got their money. They held us and our passengers (a collegiate women's basketball) team hostage. A wrecker is not a cheap piece of equipment but a service like this (that took them 1 hr tops) would cost $500 at most. These people are crooks and it's suspicious that the police would even call a company like this. Seems shady to me and I highly recommend the buyer beware. read more

Almost $1000.00 to replace 2 hubs, install a couple U bolts on my boat trailer and tow it for less than a mile. Really? I've never heard of being charged labor to procure parts before either. They pretty much went ahead and did the work without any pricing being quoted first, and expected me to pay what ever they felt like charging. My mother was broken down on the highway and called AAA and when this company showed up a man named Jason was refusing to let us bring our purses into his truck he said it would be too crowded there would be no room and when we got into the truck it was very spacious. instead of Towing us to our destination he pulled over to a service area and told us to get out of the truck and we did not have our phones or purses for any kind of help and he started to drive away with our vehicle. He was in front of the State Police building trying to do this so he was trying to get away with our car and our purses and all of the contents of our vehicle. I then called AAA to complain because he left us in a fire lane tow away Zone and sped off right in front of the police officer who started running after his truck to stop him... Just to find out that AAA said that towing company had nothing to do with our call that they had sent another company called Roberto's. Everyone in the parking lot saw the whole thing and my mom tried to physically grab hold of the truck to stop him and he was driving away putting her life in danger. What kind of business are you running here? Then before he drove off he was sure to call me and my mother stupid retards and I've decided to omit the other disgusting vulgar language that he used. He tried to get away with my mother's vehicle and our purses... when the real AAA showed up they said the fact that he wasn't wearing the AAA uniform what is a Telltale sign that this was very fishy... and the fact that this company showed up before the call was even completed showed that this was illegal. Pure crooks! My car was towed by these guys...10 hours later i go to pickup my car which was only towed .9 miles to their shop and they told me it would be $400! After asking for a run down on why so much or a price list, 1 guy gets so upset and tells me to get the f out. Mind you i had brakes done by these guys and they did a good job. But now they were disrespectful. I walked out and called the west haven police department. After officers came and went inside, the price all of a sudden goes down to $200!!! Very unhappy after dealing with these guys. Brought my car in for a tune up after I had been having some trouble starting my car. Over the phone I was quoted around $500, but when I went in to pick my car up, the bill was over $700. After some talking, the price was lowered to just under $700, but the problem is not gone and I feel ripped off. They took advantage of me and I will never return here. I would never recommend anyone comes here unless they like being misquoted on prices and having their money taken from them. Absolutely disgusting. read more

The service truck came out first in response to our call in order to analyze the problem and then sent out a welder to repair the problem at our home!
