Review Visit: June 12th, 2019…read more Luckily, we didn't make too much of an ass of ourselves... While eating at China Wok, my cousin's roommate asked what we were going to do with the rest of the afternoon. After some back and forth, we settled on visiting Cripple Creek and some casinos. After eating lunch and letting the food settle, we hit the road for Cripple Creek. We got some tips from Katie on the drive there (due to the mountain roads) and also which casinos are fun. My cousin and I arrived and parked in a parking lot that is open to the public. We wandered from one casino to the next, winning some money here and losing some there. Eventually, we stumbled in to The Brass Ass and signed up for some player cards. My cousin had never played table games before, so we ended up at the Craps table for our first gamble. We explained to the dealers that we had no idea what we were doing. They were nice enough to explain the rules. After a few throw of the di, we ended up being way ahead of our initial bets. My cousin was up $40 and I was up $25. We left the Craps table and checked out the other table games. We ended up at a table dealing Three Card Poker. The dealer there was also nice enough to explain the rules to us. I decided to sit back and spectate while my cousin played a few hands. Not only was the dealer nice enough to explain the rules, she was sassy enough to keep my cousin in line as he kept doing things not allowed by their casino rules. After my cousin was up and then down... and then eventually down enough that he wanted to quit playing, we made our way back to the Craps table... where we lost more money. Once my cousin lost all his money, we made our way to the Cage so I could cash out my $15 in chips. Before we left, we took a look around to see what else the Casino offered. My cousin found a slot machine to spend his remaining $1 on. After a few seconds, he lost it all. Lady luck sure is a fickle one.

I mostly sit at the bar and drink while I play a little. I am simply the driver that brings my wife. On this occasion I also brought my in-laws and we all enjoyed the casino. Since I was sitting at the bar watching football I was getting my drinks. It seems that they offer you a drink about every 30 minutes. Seems pretty generous to me and reasonable. Don't want to see a bunch of drunks slopping all over the place. My waitress was great, she had a great personality and made a great Bloody Mary. I had two but even though I was there for a couple of hours I had to limit two because I do have to drive down the hill. My wife and mother-in-law both said that drinks on the floor were not great. Only one drink for my wife in a couple of hours of play.

The service was exceptional -- the staff was attentive, kind, and very accommodating to my 7-year-old, which made the whole evening feel relaxed and enjoyable. The food was excellent, and the atmosphere struck the perfect balance between upscale and comfortable. Overall, such a great date night. We'll definitely be back!

Positives first: The…read moreservice was very good. Our waitress, Marian, was pleasant, attentive, and knowledgeable throughout the evening. The drinks were also well done. I ordered the tableside smoked Old Fashioned, which was surprisingly tasty--I usually find the smoking aspect to be more novelty than substance. Areas needing improvement: The steak tartare itself was good; however, the accompaniments were under-portioned relative to the amount of tartare. The bread served with it was basic toasted white bread, which felt underwhelming for a restaurant at this level. The New Year's Eve prime rib special was inconsistent--warm around the edges but cold in the center. Now for the disappointing part: I ordered the sea bass, which arrived cold and frozen in the middle. I returned the dish, and our waitress was extremely apologetic. Unfortunately, by the time an update was provided--about 30 minutes later--we were told another sea bass would take an additional 30 minutes to prepare. By then, everyone else at the table had finished their meals, so I had no choice but to cancel my order and go without dinner. To her credit, the waitress did offer us a dessert in an effort to make things right. With a bill exceeding $300, I would expect a much higher level of quality control. For a restaurant at this price point, these issues shouldn't occur. That said, I would be open to giving 980 another chance. I understand that things can go wrong, especially on a busy night like New Year's Eve. Cheers.

The salad bar has about everything you could wish and the Brazilian lemonades are top notch. Passion fruit and raspberry are my personal favorites. This is one of our go to stops in Colorado Springs and in the past we've attended their chefs night, where we got to try delicacies from different regions, which was a lot of fun. Wheelchair accessibility: in general this restaurant is actually very accessible. The front doors are heavy and there's a double door set up but plenty of room between the two doors to navigate. The front desk is very high so someone in a shorter chair or short statured might have a harder time getting someone's attention. The door to the bathroom is very light and there's an accessible stall, but the soap in the bathroom is out of reach. The largest impediment to your culinary experience would probably be that the salad bar counter is too high for an average wheelchair user or little person. I'm sure the staff would help or you could have somebody in your party assist, but it would be difficult to navigate on your own. There are several accessible parking spots.

At first the handles were gross but someone must have done something because on my second trip the handles weren't greasy any more. The feijoda was awesome, the cheese bread was dry, but overall it was a good salad bar and better than the one in Albuquerque and better than some of the higher end Brazilian grill places (just the salad bar, not the meat selection). There wasn't anywhere near the meat selection advertised but they had the "good" ones. They didn't seem to know how to cut Picahna but they tried their best. They started cutting chunks until I asked for slices which were done sloppily. Overall, for price to value it's definitely good. So it's not at same level as Texas de Brazil or Fogo de Chao, but they also charge much more.
