I want to start by saying our server, I believe Trent or Trenton, was fantastic. The food was great and the atmosphere was enjoyable. The only reason this review is not positive is entirely because of the hostess. We had reservations for two at 6:45 PM on May 2nd. The restaurant had a line out the door, which is completely understandable on a busy night. I walked up and politely said, "6:45 reservation for two." No greeting, no smile, no basic customer service skills whatsoever -- just "booth or table?" Trying to make things easier while the restaurant was clearly busy, I said, "Whatever is easiest for you all." Apparently that response offended her, because she stared at me and replied, "Looks like we need to practice making decisions," with the most smug, condescending expression imaginable -- like she was disciplining two children instead of speaking to paying customers. I was honestly shocked by how comfortable she was being blatantly rude for absolutely no reason. If answering a simple question with flexibility and kindness is somehow too difficult for her to handle, then maybe customer-facing hospitality is not the right fit. Her entire attitude screamed miserable, arrogant, and bothered that customers even walked through the door. What's worse is this is not the first rude interaction we've had with her, and while waiting I also watched her speak down to other guests the same way. So clearly this is just how she treats people. Honestly, she is lucky it was a date night and my fiancé was with me, because I am not the type of person to sit quietly while being spoken to that way for absolutely no reason. A hostess is supposed to welcome people into the restaurant, not act like an irritated middle school vice principal on a power trip. It's honestly embarrassing for your establishment because the rest of the staff did a wonderful job. I am unsure of her name, but she is taller, likely in her 50s, with a pixie haircut slightly shaved in the back. read more

Good...USED to be the fried mushrooms. This is well over 2 years ago. At some point, they determined that it took too long to hand prepare and cook the mushrooms...and went to some pre-battered and prepared mushrooms and they have NEVER been the same. More bad...for a steakhouse, they literally have no idea how to cook a steak...no matter how it is ordered. I cannot tell you how many times I have been here with friends and nobody is happy with their steak when it comes out. The salmon, on the other hand...good every time...but this is a steakhouse folks! Also, if the manager is available to hand batter your chicken fried chicken...the best! Okay, this was my husband's birthday and we wanted to go further afield for dinner, we Love the Salt Grass and so decided to go to Cripple Creek Salt Grass. We have been before and had Great experience, however not this time. We made a reservation for 6:00 and after a long wait in line we were seated by Nate. When the server Shafron came to our table to take our order, she seemed very pleasant, and after she took our drink order she said ( do you need a few more minutes with the menu) my husband and I ordered. We chose the Pat's ribeye and baked potatoes and salad. My husband ask for a wedge salad and Shafron went and put in our order. Shafron came with our drinks and Bread and then nothing. The next thing we knew our dinner was in front of us and no salads. When my husband said to the young man that brought the steaks we did not receive our salads, he was like did your server put them in? He said he would go find our server and see what she wanted to do. After a few minutes Shafron came by the table and said that they had run out of wedges and had forgotten to tell us but did we still want our salads? Shafron said she had/ had a large party come in and ask specifically for her to be their server and that was why she had forgotten to come back and tell us they were out of the wedge salads. Shafron left to serve her larger table and we were left with just the rest of our meal. When Shafron came back with the bill, she was distracted and anything we ask for, for desert they obviously were out of. No carrot cake, no cheese cake and no chocolate cake. I was like seriously and no money taken off the bill for the no show salads. It was not a Great experience! And Shafron seemed more interested in her larger table and shafted us. We were having trouble finding any place to eat in cripple Creek on Sunday night before Memorial Day. We were able to walk from our hotel after securing a reservation by phone. We only had to wait a few minutes as opposed to other places that had said it would be at least an hour and a half. Our food was delicious and spot on, and Trent, our server, was attentive and delightful. The bartender was also great, as was the hostess. We went once for dinner and once for breakfast and both services were terrible. Dinner - we had their Valentine's Day special which came with 1 appetizer, 2 entrees , 1 dessert and a bottle of wine (additional $) Our server literally did not know how to open a bottle of wine and we had to show her how, while she was pouring, wine was spilling into our fried mushrooms and she didn't even notice. My husband ordered one steak and I ordered the steak and shrimp. When it came, I got the same steak as him ( I cannot remember the names of the cuts) I literally asked the waitress if this was the right one and she goes "yeah yeah yeah" it wasn't until I ate almost half I remembered I was supposed to have shrimp - so I definitely got the wrong cut of meat. The chocolate cake we had for dessert was good but honestly too sweet and the portion size was just ridiculous. No one needs that much. I found it to be wasteful. Left dinner disappointed overall. We went next day for breakfast, they were not busy. Lots of empty tables yet some how we still had to wait about 20 minutes. After we got a table it was another 10 before we got drinks, and it was the same waitress from last night, who didn't even end up being our waitress. We had a middle age man who completely forgot we existed. We had to flag him down multiple times for things and our food came out incorrect. My father in laws sausage was missing from his dish. The bacon and pico were missing from my breakfast tacos NO WHERE on the menu did it say I was getting beans with my dish. My husband and I ordered a side pancake - no chocolate chips, but whatever, the pancake was almost impossible to cut and didn't taste very good. Not a great experience here. Yes it was Valentines Day and we hear they were short staffed, we were with friends and they were staying at the Golden Nugget and suggested we eat there over an hour went by before our meal finally arrived and it was cold and inedible. Not much more to say, but we tried them for breakfast thinking it would be better way less people in there and the exact same thing happened. Drinks didn't arrive until the meals did and the meals were cold and frankly we paid for what we touched and walked out. This place always has great food and fantastic customer service. Ambience is nice and open and has a great feel without being drowned out by slot machine noise. Don't get me wrong. Horrible horrible horrible. The manager of this restaurant needs to be fired IMMEDIATELY! I was there over the weekend and service was nonexistent. It was fall festival so there were a lot of people there. People just kept flooding into the restaurant and the host just kept seating people. They definitely should've started a waitlist. The staff was completely overwhelmed, and it was painfully obvious. The food is decent, but they need to get new management in this place. This is the second time the service has been terrible when we go there. I had so much anxiety and anger watching the staff struggle to keep up with the amount of people. I'm not sure why the reviews aren't great for this place, but I've been here several times in the past month since moving just outside of town, and every time the food is amazing and the service is great. It's not cheap, but it's definitely not expensive, and the quality justifies the price. Sometimes they're a little bit overwhelmed because it can get busy with the casino, but it's always worth the wait. The staff is warm and friendly, and seriously the food is absolutely amazing. Went to the Salt Grass in Cripple Creek for fathers day dinner. My wife and i were very disappointed! Our food was brought to us from someone other than our server and was not cooked the way we asked for it. I waited probably 25 min for our server to come check on us about the food and that did not happen. I finally ask for the manager who could plainly see how the meat was way over cooked and offered to remove one meal from the ticket. We both kind of pick at some of it but didn't really eat cause it was not good. After we left we were not really felling so good. Just a poor experience! Just for some background context, I have been stationed here in wonderful Colorado for coming up on 4 years now. I have always loved going up old stage then coming down into good ole cripple creek. This time however my wife and I wanted to take a weekend for ourselves before we part ways to train for new jobs for 5 months. We decided after settling in to check out the Golden Nugget Casino and its "top tier" steakhouse. Here's how that went. Starting with the main podium, the amount of disorganization I saw when checking in guests was staggering. The seemingly younger gentleman running the podium was bouncing between "taking care" of guests and bussing tables. Not exactly a great first thing to see when you enter what's supposed to be a higher level experience. From there, the gentleman decided to seat myself and my wife, a party of 2, at a table set for 6. Directly behind my wife was a group of 4 who had one individual who was wheelchair bound and they had been sat and an extremely small table that would have better suited 2 people. Before we saw our waitress, the Host sat another couple at a table set for 6 to which they immediately left. Our waitress was very nice and well mannered and we ordered our drinks and appetizer. The previously mentioned party of 4 was also apparently supposed to be taken care of by our waitress but didn't begin getting served till awhile after we had already put in our main course order. In fact by the time that we left the restaurant we had not seen them be served other than their drinks. Continuing with our food service, we were eventually offered bread that was served with some sort of sugary butter. Very messy. We eventually heard a different waitress behind me serving our food to a completely different table, even placing it on their table while telling her that the food wasn't theirs. We got her attention and was served by this other waitress. We let her know that we hadn't been served our appetizer to which she alerted us that it had been dropped in the kitchen before it could be served. Moments later our server came by to tell us our "appetizer order ticket had gotten thrown away" and that "they were starting to make it now". I think I can speak for everyone when I say, I don't enjoy being bluntly lied to. End of story. So my wife and I had ordered roughly the same main course. It was called the Urban Cowboy which was a 12oz NY Strip with grilled shrimp covered in a butter sauce and came with a side. For my side I got the loaded baked potato, can't really screw that up. My wife, for hers, got the mashed potatoes loaded. I preface what I'm about to say with the fact that the Urban Cowboy meal is $45. To start, we ordered rare steaks and received mediums. Both steaks were not seasoned to any degree and relied heavily on the butter sauce which was divine and should be on the drink menu. My wife didn't have this issue but I noticed about half way into my lovely looking 4 shrimp that none of my shrimp were deveined. As for the sides the only comment I'll say is that my wife's mashed potatoes were 25% potato and 75% toppings. Basically sour cream and potato soup. Right before we decided to pay we received our appetizer which was the fried mushrooms. They claimed to be parmesan dusted and came with a side of ranch. We got the ranch but the appetizer itself was an under seasoned mushroom with over seasoned batter and 4 specks of cheese. The only nice thing I'll say is that they offer 15% off for military. Never eating at this chaotic restaurant again. read more
