The process for finding a decent hotel can be tasking. You just never know and I think that's one of the scariest things, lol. We decided to stay here based on the reviews, walkability, the proximity to restaurants, parks, stores, and entertainment. The hotel itself is pretty nice and rather big! I think we stayed on the 18th floor and the views were AMAZING! Shoutout + thanks to Bernard for fulfilling our request and for making our check in process seamless. He was quite hilarious and gave us good food recommendations which we appreciated. The hotel room itself was ok but pretty outdated (e.g., the bathroom, furniture, and beds) and could use some upgrades. I did like that there was enough room to move around and not be up under anyone else. I had to request for extra blankets because the sheets were a bit thin/making it cold. They have two restaurants located on the first level, which is nice if you sometimes want to stay in. The gym/fitness center is probably one of the best ones I've seen for a hotel. It was well equipped and clean. I wish I would've taken advantage of it more but there was so much to do, so little time! Overall, I enjoyed my stay at the Swissôtel. Stayed here one night with a friend while visiting Chicago. We booked through Airbnb and the process was seamless and easy. The hotel reached out beforehand so communication was good. Check-in took way longer than it should've. Only 2 people at the front desk with like 5 people in line and we waited 15-20 minutes. The room itself though was really nice. Super clean, great layout, separate bathtub and shower, and amazing view of the city and the river. No complaints. Now the fees! This is where it gets annoying. There's a mandatory "urban experience fee" of $30-35 per night that includes a $15 food/beverage credit, $12 dry cleaning credit, 10% off private transportation, and WiFi. You cannot opt out. I called to confirm I could use the credits at their bar and they said yes. I got a drink at the bar for $15, tipped on top $4 and expected to see that reflected at checkout (pay $4 extra). Instead I was charged $56. Had to wait in line again just to get it sorted out, and the front desk was confused at first and we kept going back and forth before finally issuing the credit. It still hadn't posted to my card by the time I left, so fingers crossed that gets resolved. Honestly the fee wouldn't bother me as much if it was actually worth it but the WiFi was laggy enough that I just gave up and used my cellular data, and I can't imagine most guests are regularly using dry cleaning or private car discounts. The $15 food credit is the only perk that feels worth it (even though it wasn't easy go apply). A couple minor things: the toiletries have a really earthy, herbal scent that's just not for me which is a personal preference. The hotel is going for an eco-friendly vibe (wooden key cards, bamboo combs, etc.) which I think is cool, just mentally prepare if you're particular about scents. On the bright side: gym has a gorgeous view, room comes with a mini fridge, AC/heat works great, and the location is super convenient. Overall it's a solid hotel but the fee situation left a bad taste. I'd say try it once, just know what you're walking into and double check your charges at checkout. I typically stay at Marriott Bonvoy properties, but since my conference this week was hosted at Swissôtel, it made sense to stay on-site. This was my first stay here, and overall, I was pleasantly surprised. Hotel & Room The hotel is 37 years old, and while that age shows in a few design elements, everything was clean, well-maintained, and fully functional. My guest room was spacious and comfortable, more so than many newer hotels that prioritize style over space. The bathroom setup was a tell: a full bathtub (a giveaway of an older property) but with a small glass-enclosed shower tucked behind the door--functional, but not exactly modern luxury. View The highlight of our room on the 21st floor was the stunning view of Lake Michigan, especially at night. Floor-to-ceiling windows gave us a postcard-perfect view--a real selling point for this hotel. Unique Touches One charming surprise was the old-fashioned doorbell, which you ring by turning a key outside the door. A small detail, but it reminded me this hotel has some history. Fitness Center The 34th-floor fitness center was the biggest surprise--absolutely outstanding. It looked brand new, with a wide range of quality equipment and panoramic skyline and lake views. For anyone who values a good workout on the road, this is a major perk. Dining & Amenities * The Palm steakhouse anchors the lobby for lunch and dinner--reliable, classic, and always good. * In the morning, the hotel takes over the space. I ordered an omelette with bacon, potatoes, and toast for $22, and it was huge--good value for a downtown hotel breakfast. * My only real disappointment: no proper coffee shop on-site. Coffee service at the lobby bar exists, but it's nothing special. A hotel of this size should really have a grab-and-go café. Overall Take I wouldn't call Swissôtel a five-star luxury property like the St. Regis up the street, but it delivers on comfort, views, and fitness amenities. Great location, walking distance from a lot of places, and nice view of the city/river. Checking in and out was a breeze - they do offer food/beverage credits if you don't request room service daily. This hotel is very outdated and could use a facelift, though. The toilet ran for about 15 mins after flushing, the a/c doesn't go down past 65°, and you can definitely hear people moving about. It served its purpose for my few days stay but I doubt I'll return here. read more

We stayed in Chicago a few weeks ago for the Oasis concert after getting a deal on a website. It was so easy to get around from this hotel, but I do wish it was just a bit closer to the riverwalk. We had a great view of Navy Pier, which we especially enjoyed at night when the ferris wheel was lit up. The hotel lobby bar was nice and the house wines were actually pretty good. My only issue with the room was that the shower door wouldn't stay closed! So after every shower we had to essentially mop up the bathroom floor. We also told the front desk and housekeeping that we didn't need any service, yet they still came in our room and moved things around. Would I stay here again? They tried charging me $40 for water that we didn't even drink. We stayed for 3 days and they claimed we drank $40 worth of water. We didn't even know they had water! Second, they woke us up on our last day there claiming we had already checked out at 6am. We had not and our checkout time wasn't until like 11am. This was NOT a nice hotel. Nice bar scene and they have a good looking restaurant in which I did not get a chance to try. The room itself was really nice and spacious. Had a good view and the bed was really comfy. Room came equipped with a mini fridge which came in handy. The only issue I would call out is that the shower was very small so unless you're really small people, its a hassle to shower together lol! We ordered room service the next day and the breakfast sandwich was really good...ham, eggs, cheese and avocado on a croissant. I would definitely stay here again...really good hotel read more

Ask us if we want help with our bags instead of just helping us they see us struggling so I said no it's OK and they continue to watch us struggle. We stayed here during a long weekend in June and had a nice experience. Overall, the rooms are very clean, staff is professional, and the location is fantastic. Around the hotel everything was very well maintained and litter-free; there are nice parks, plazas and the river walk nearby as well. Several grocery stores within walking distance and tons of restaurants. Special shout out to Bernard who helped us check in and also assisted with different questions/requests including booking a river tour on our behalf. Bernard was friendly and welcoming and made the stay great. Our first room had an issue with the shower leaking in multiple spots. The front desk staff quickly responded by sending maintenance, who was not of much help. We requested another room and got one right away. Both rooms had an issue with the AC where the thermostat made it appear that the unit was working to lower the temp, however, it never made it below 70 no matter how low the thermostat was set to, so the AC system seems to have been locked systematically as both rooms had the same situation. The unit only ever produced barely cool air. Only one staff member seemed like they were not too polished. She was saying things like "I will allow that" regarding a late check out when we literally paid for it, costing upwards of $100. All in all, though, a good stay only due to hospitable staff and a clean environment. If we are in Chicago again in the future we will surely consider staying here again. read more

Pros - Location is great, right in the heart of downtown, with plenty of restaurants to walk to - Conference rooms/facilities were nice - The views were great! Cons - Staff were unfriendly and unhelpful, so pro tip, use Yelp or Google...easier to get info - Amenities were eh. They need more water throughout the day and to try to keep up better with conference needs (never saw anyone throughout the day and water wasn't refilled) - Coffee shop was a bit overpriced, especially for the quality. Got a coffee with a sandwich (they are pre-made so no customization i.e. no cheese etc) and the bagel was stale (at 745a). Having traveled fairly extensively for work across numerous states and having stayed in a variety of properties in numerous major US cities (NYC, Chicago, NJ, Dallas-Fort Worth, Boston, New Orleans, FL, San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego, etc.) this hotel is a solid 4 Yelp star property. Other reviewers have both valid and non-consequential complaints ranging from bed bugs (valid) and expensive parking/valet fees (valid) to they didn't like the food or beverages in the hotel restaurants/lounges (not that important) or it was really crowded when they checked in (not that important). We did not experience any of these problems. For the matters we believe really are important to most travelers, we had a good experience on our stay. The front desk and housekeeping staffs were friendly and efficient. The mattress was not worn out and gave a good nights sleep. The room was obviously remodeled fairly recently on our visit and was clean and comfortable. The only complaint we might have is that the water pressure was low on the 26th floor. If you stay here try another floor to get closer to the booster pumps that all high rise hotels have to get better water pressure. There was adequate hot water. There was free WiFi that worked well for basic usage--it's public so use a VPN like all other hotels/motels and don't do sensitive browsing like banking on it. As other reviewers stated, many rooms offer a nice view, there are numerous restaurants within walking distance including those in other nearby hotels such as the Hyatt's expensive breakfast buffet that is superior to Swissotel's breakfast offerings and the Radisson's lunch/dinner restaurant around the corner. In our experience, most hotel restaurants and bars/lounges are not that great and are only convenient. So go outside the hotel if you want more than a convenient drink or meal. In fact, while there are a few really good restaurants near by, many do not get more than 3.5 Yelp stars, which is not good for a sit down place on Yelp. Swissotel is a conference hotel and so if you arrive while a conference is checking in, then it will be crowded and the restaurants/lounges noisy. When they are done checking in, it all goes back to normal. So if not in a hurry to check in, just go eat somewhere else and check in later after the conference attendees are done checking in. Although you can walk to many nearby restaurants and shops, lots of business people are on the streets during the daytime, and the area looks nicer than say downtown LA, NYC, or Dallas, the area is not safe. Chicago has one of the highest homicide rates in the country, and so taking an Uber at night is your best bet. Overall, like most places we stay on business, we would probably not stay here on a personal trip. However, if we had another conference or business trip to attend here, we would be fine staying at this property. read more

Overall, the hotel did its job. I slept very well, I think the beds and pillows are great. I was bummed to be placed in a room in the back of the hotel with no real view of anything interesting. I was also only on the sixth floor, so at night, I did hear commotion out on the street. Location was great and felt near to just about everything. The fitness center is awesome, staff was all around friendly, and using Chase points, it was affordable. Would I return? Probably not. I'd be interested to see what else is out there. read more

My second stay here, and this time I have to add that the stunning view from the 27th floor was breathtaking. But otherwise I stand by my former review. Great location, excellent views, good place for a medium to larger conference. A little short staffed, I would have liked to see more fresh water in the conference rooms, and a shorter trip for fresh coffee than going all the way back to the front of the hotel. Conferences require coffee, there was always a line for the one barista, who by the way was excellent. Rooms are good, as is always the case with Swissotel, as expensive as the comparable area hotels. They do not have reasonable parking, you shouldn't drive here, it's pretty well served by Chicago's public transportation, the CTA. Park near one of the CTA train termini and leave your car there for your stay. Definitely take the train in from the airport, no need to rent a car in Chicago. I was a little confused getting off the train to find the hotel, and I grew up in Chicago. This area of the city has changed considerably. Lots of very expensive add-ons, the hotel is honest about them but just be careful. The restaurant is good but can't quite handle lunch and dinner rush times when a conference has packed in the hotel. Eat in the hotel when you need to, but do note that Chinatown, Greektown, and Bronzeville aren't far at all. A little farther out and you can find authentic Chicago style hot dogs (don't ask for ketchup), deep dish pizza, Italian Beef, real Korean, and authentic Polish cuisine. Like most hotels in the 21st century, you're not going to find a helpful concierge, so instead utilize YELP. Look for reviews by Chicago fat guys. read more

Due to extreme weather on the east coast our flight to Newark cancelled. When we arrived there was missing information that was suppose to secure our rooms. Simone sprung into action and made the necessary phone calls needed to remedy the situation. We were exhausted and so appreciative of her support. When our flight cancelled the next day, manager Jean, also made the necessary phone calls to continue our stay. I booked this room so I could get a nights sleep, and was unable to sleep until the wedding ended at 1am. I called the front desk because I thought someone was just playing loud music, and they told me about the wedding. They offered "complimentary earplugs", as if that would help me sleep when my BED WAS SHAKING. This is not a serious hotel. They wanted the money for hosting a wedding with zero regard for their other guests. I will not be returning, and I doubt the management cares. For the price, this place is a joke. read more

My friend and I did a staycation for her birthday this summer and this was a great hotel to do so. It was prime time location to basically everywhere we wanted to go, the riverwalk, state street, Michigan Ave, etc. Central location if you plan to explore the city during your stay. The lobby area was nicely decorated and very inviting for you to have a cocktail and conversation, if you wanted to stay in for the night. We had a river view (I think that was the name) so we got to watch the sun rise over the river and Navy Pier. 1000/10, highly recommend. This was my first time in Chicago as I had just run the Chicago Marathon. I had a few extra days after to explore the city. I chose the Swissôtel for a couple of days and had a great experience from check-in, location, and the ambiance of the hotel itself (with a couple of eateries near the lobby.) I became a quick fan of the Smash Burgers at Amuse. Sooo good, I ended up having 3 of them during my stay. I had such a great experience, I ended up extending my stay 2 additional nights. During my additional night, there were some repairs happening in a room next to mine. It was a bit distracting, so I brought it up to the front desk. Alfred was very understanding and went above and beyond to look into my concerns (as I had work calls during the day and the noise was distracting). He let me know it would continue through the day and happily accommodated me in a much nicer room. Overall, Alfred was just understanding,empathetic and had great communication throughout. The Swissôtel in Chicago has earned a loyal customer and I look forward to visiting again! read more

View of Navy Pier was gorgeous, but while staying there an irreplaceable jacket when missing. While initially seeming concerned, ultimately I received 2 weeks of getting the run-around from staff, which ended in their rude dismissal of my concern and denial of any financial responsibility, despite proof that it had to have gone missing in a 6 hour window in their hotel. This poor treatment ultimately ruined our experience of the hotel. Chicago is a gorgeous city with lots of great options of places to stay, go elsewhere. read more

When I looked at the website pictures compared to the price (nearly 40% cheaper than other hotels in the area) I thought it was too good to be true. Imagine my surprise when I was met with kind and informative service, an immaculate room with a gorgeous view, and one of the comfiest beds I've had in my travels. All of this within 10 minutes walking distance from most lines of transit and about a 15 minute walk to Millennium Park. And I know it's crazy, but their grab and go sandwiches are restaurant quality freaking amazing and great if you're in a hurry. It was in the perfect location and had spectacular views, for a reasonable price. The walk to a train or bus was not bad and it was insanely close to the lake cruise we took from the river walk. A huge bonus is the amazing skyline view and state of the art workout room. We didn't get a chance to use this space on our short stay but this is a huge bonus to have access to a gym this nice in the city. Everything from pelotons to a separate studio room, I was impressed. I did a one night stay at swissôtel to celebrate my birthday. Here's the breakdown from my trip. Staff were very kind and even accommodating of the fact that it is my birthday which was really nice of them. lobby is modern and clean. Room was also very clean, Comfortable bed. You can't beat the view. Showers have the best water pressure ever too. The hotel is maybe a ten minute walk from Cloudgate and millennium station. There is a walgreens right around the corner too. However, there were a handful of things that took away from my experience, some my fault, some not, and i'd like to mention those for others. Our room was upgraded to a room where the main lamp didn't work so our room was a little dark. Swissôtels do not provide microwaves (my own misplanning obviously not on the hotel-) so you will be unable to reheat any leftovers. Fridges only have a 2 hr chill setting. every few hours if i would reach in the fridge, it did not feel the right temp so we constantly were turning the fridge back on. Wifi was also down for the entirety of the stay. The biggest bummer for us was that the Tvs have no streaming platform options like how other hotels will offer the option to log into your own peacock, netflix, youtube etc if you wish to. At swissôtel, You have the option to choose between 25-30 channels like E, MTV, HGTV, Lifetime, etc) , or rent from a handful of movies. The selection is quite limited with half of the movies either being animated children's movies, or stuff still being shown in theater, resulting in all movies having a watch price of $20+. This was a pretty big bummer seeing as we usually like to come back to our hotel with dinner, wind down with a movie....... For the amount of money you pay for the stay, I feel there should absolutely be an option to log into streaming services or at the very least airplay from your iphone, considering how many people solely stream tv content these days. The location of this hotel, along with the cleanliness and courtesy of the staff are all great. However, I think maybe this hotel just wasn't exactly what I was looking for. I do not regret staying at all, but I do think it May be better for a business stay. read more

This was a nice hotel next to the river. It's within walking distance of everything and very convenient for that aspect. My coworker and I stayed here last month. His room was in a corner and had an odd layout but it had a great view and was really spacious. My room was a bit smaller with less of a view but still nice. I love the gym on the top floor. They have a lot of equipment and a couple of Peloton bikes. The view up there is so nice as well! They even have a room on the side for yoga or Pilates - or just more privacy. A solid upscale hotel located in downtown Chicago that is not too far from the Navy pier and has a lot of great options around in walking distance. The decor and design of the hotel is very nice although the one area that I felt could use improvement was the managing of the bar area. Being that of a beer influencer with also a background in bartending, the bar was definitely an area that could use some stronger management. The service was disappointing for all that was planned at the hotel during my time there where there were multiple conferences, and some of the tenders over the period weren't always the best in the attitude area. Which for them wasn't my probably the best because there was a lot of tips that they could have picked up from all of the business people there, not too mention other guests that maybe weren't part of the conference. The fact that people were just showing up at a point with their own bottles and mixers at the bar kind of went to this. I had a lovely experience at Swissôtel. Me and my little sister slept on the pull out couch of my moms king suite and was very comfortable(besides my sister kicking me all night lol). The front desk staff was so helpful at accommodating us 2 joining my moms reservation. You get 2 free drinks at the bar(a very cozy and christmasy ambiance) which was great. Amazing views of the river and navy pier from our room(even saw some fireworks!). Only con was the revolving door kept stopping while we were in it and was not used to the updated elevator system. I booked a king City view room. It was very nice, beautiful river views. After our first night the AC wasn't working correctly. Maintenance replaced a part and it seemed fine. After being out all day our room felt warm. Again maintenance came. The manager Hassan offered us an upgrade. Wow! He gave us a beautiful corner room with amazing city and river views. Additionally he sent champagne and chocolate covered strawberries to our room with a card wishing us a happy 34th wedding anniversary. That was so incredibly thoughtful! I absolutely love it here and will definitely come back. I highly recommend this hotel and commend this young man for his management and customer service skills that go above and beyond! Thank you. I enjoyed my stay at the Swissôtel. This hotel is located at the eastern end of Wacker Drive and is conveniently located not far from the Magnificent Mile. It's a short walk away. Navy Pier is also a rock throwaway. The hotel is classy and relatively modern, and the rooms are nice and comfortable. It has the Palms restaurant right off of the lobby and another small bar. The staff wasn't very attentive; in fact, I waited to check in to my room for over 5 minutes because no one was at the desk. But beyond that, it was a pleasant stay. read more

We arrived very early (10am) and our room was not ready. We were offered an early check in at a fee of $65.00. We opted to check our bags while we explored the city. Front desk said they would call when room was available, which they did at noon. After exploring the city we checked into our room at 6pm. The front desk staff was not very welcoming or friendly. We reserved a classic King in advance. They attempted to put us into a double. When I explained we reserved a king she requested to see proof. Luckily I had printed my confirmation. No apology, just more key tapping. We were given our keys and nothing was explained. The room was clean however there was only 1 robe and 1 tea bag. Looking in the key packet I discovered a card explaining their "Urban Experience Fee" which is a joke! Free coffee and tea available in lobby from 5am-6am! One hour, obviously they do not want anyone to take advantage of that. I asked at the desk for caffeine free tea and I was told to either check at bar or call room service! This is a luxury hotel with no customer service! I might also add that there were no other guests at the desk then and 2 clerks. I give the 3 stars for location and appearance. This hotel has easy access to the river, quick mile to Navy pier, and less than 10min walk to shopping. The room was spacious, the front desk was super nice. Enjoyed our stay. read more

still staying here currently. yesterday, I showed up and dropped my stuff and then came back later in the evening. When I restrooms, I noticed stains near the toilet handle, someone's fecal matter, went downstairs to front staff, and the first thing out of their mouth was, that I had been checked in for a while, like an accusation. like apparently I didn't scan the room enough, which last I checked, was their job. Just got out of the shower and found the body soap dispenser empty. I've had enough. The amount of money I just paid to find fecal matter in my room, you have to love it. read more

One of the best hotel gyms I've had the pleasure being exhausted in. Now that's a sentence I never thought I'd craft here on Yelp. We hosted our company's conference in the lower levels which surprisingly fit all of our attendees rather comfortably with more room to spare. Having the hotel within the property was helpful for the late evenings and early call-times. I would've given this a higher rating, but our room literally had the ventilation wide open with wires and pipes bursting at the seems. They responded quickly and gave us the corner suite of our floor, but coming back from a long flight to room so disheveled only added to our travel burdens. read more

It was great. I arrived early after a red-eye flight to Chicago, and they welcomed with a "Gruezi" and had no trouble to check me in, even with an upgrade. The corner room was spacious, with great view into 2 directions. Even the bathroom had a big windows with lots of light and view. In the morning, there were a few items available at the bar, including a solid coffee, a wonderful birchermuesli, and nice an crisp croissants. The location is very practical with everything easily reachable. read more

Just tragically bad, complete waste of money for an experience that is below a simple hilton or any other basic place. Yes its in a neat spot, but they dont tell you about the $100 a night unavoidable parking fees or the random $25 "experience" fee that gives you random credits to things, but its unlikely you're going to use most of them. Just for reference for this room, it is two beds, not one, so although theres nothing that says that it is the case. Mo microwave in the room either which was unfortunate, but if you want your food taken and heated up you can! However it will cost you $35... Overall, it will be cheaper to just go somewhere outside the city of at a different hotel. read more

This hotel is a complete scam. We asked for fresh towel and they came an hour and a half later. We needed utensils because we weren't provided any and the lobby bar charged us to buy their crappy wooden forks. They do not have good service and it is way too overpriced for they say they offer.
