It is loud but an overall good choice. 4.49 Stars. My first room was on a high floor but I moved after a leak in my ceiling. No worries. My second room on a lower floor was a bad choice IF there is a party at the facility or lots of people at the bar. If it's a party- get earplugs. The room: nice, modern with a good bathroom and a good view. My friends all loved their rooms and had no issues with noise on the upper floors. This hotel is in a great location for walking and that is a definite +++. The front desk is lukewarm. The restaurant downstairs (Yasimi?) is really good but double check the charges and keep receipts. I had to payout my expense report when a tip/total suddenly didn't match my photo of the receipt. read more

This hotel is advertised as a luxury hotel. This was actually equivalent to room more disappointing then I have ever "willingly" stayed at. Where to start. The room is the smallest I have ever seen. I mean it is hard to describe how poorly put together this room was. Instead of a queen (which we booked) it was a single full size pushed up against the window. There was some weird cabinet in the center of the room that looked like it had been beaten to heck at a yard sale. There was screws in the wall where art "had been" but now was gone. The bathroom had no internal light switches only ones on the outside of the bathroom so the light would shine in the face of my wife in bed. Small, like there was only room for a single nightstand next to the bed. A bed so lumpy it felt like a mattress someone picked up at a flea market. No water or mini bar or much of anything. The worst part of this horrific room, besides its absurdly small and poorly laid out stature, was the noise. Some genius slapped this place together and it was probably an office building at one time because the sound from the street was relentless. All night, all I could hear was every single car that drove by. If you had.a motorcycle or a loud car, it was nothing short of a 2am 4am wake up call. There was some weird gurgling noise coming from the ceiling which I only heard in between buses, cars and motorcycles. The air fan I had to turn off because it sounded and felt like one of those window brand units from a motel. I will try to put up a video of the room to illustrate. read more

We were taken to the Godfrey for their rooftop happy hour. I really wanted to enjoy some of the Chicago scenery and this is definitely the place to make that happen. They're happy hour prices were really great and they had a variety of drinks that you could choose from. The menu was light and fresh but the views were amazing! They also had a DJ that was playing Modern upbeat sounds that kept the vibe real lively. We didn't order much other than the drinks and enjoy the view and the atmosphere definitely recommend for a cool vibe with friends. read more

Visited IO Godfrey at the Godfrey Hotel for a rooftop lunch and left with mixed feelings. The rooftop space itself is beautiful stylish setting with a great city view and a relaxed vibe. It's definitely a spot made for the ambiance. Service was friendly and attentive throughout our meal, which made a difference when one of the main dishes didn't come out quite right. I ordered the steak frites, but the steak arrived overcooked and had to be sent back. To their credit, the staff handled it professionally and replaced it without any hassle. The truffle fries were crispy and flavorful, and the cocktails were nicely presented refreshing and well-balanced. We also had the slider trio, which looked great but tasted average overall. Nothing bad, just not quite on par with the prices or setting. Overall, the experience was a mix: amazing rooftop vibe and great service, but the food was inconsistent. We had a great 4 night stay in January. We booked a suite with a king bed and pullout couch for our six year old. It had comfortable bedding, nice toiletries and gorgeous views of the city skyline. Housekeeping came daily and did a great job. The hotel is comfortable, affordable and in a great location for walking to restaurants and attractions. But speaking of restaurants, the one right downstairs is fantastic. My only suggestions: more storage space would be helpful for people staying multiple nights like we did. I don't like living out of my suitcase. Even just a couple of drawers in the nightstands or under the TV would be helpful. read more

I'm currently staying at The Godfrey Hotel Chicago and unfortunately this has been one of the most disappointing hotel experiences I've had -- especially for a property that markets itself as a four-star hotel. From the moment I arrived, the experience felt chaotic. There were two guests arguing loudly in the lobby during check-in, which set the tone for what has been a very uncomfortable stay. One of the elevators has been out of service, creating delays and congestion. The noise levels are extremely high -- hallway conversations and sounds from neighboring rooms carry clearly into the room, making it difficult to rest or work. Soundproofing appears to be minimal at best. The most frustrating issue, however, is the lack of climate control. The hotel has apparently turned off the air conditioning system, and guests are unable to control the temperature in their rooms. It is currently 75° inside my room, while it's cooler outside. Even with the windows open, the room will not cool down. When I contacted the front desk, I was told there was nothing they could do to help. For a hotel positioned at this price point and rating level, basic expectations such as working elevators, reasonable noise control, and the ability to adjust room temperature should be standard. Unfortunately, had I known about these conditions in advance, I would have chosen to stay elsewhere. read more

This rooftop has everything; fully stocked bar, meal service, luxury seating, good music and an amazing view. This open space has quite the dance floor. I am not much of a dancer but when I hear any "slide" music, something comes over me and I instantly get into the groove. I was here for a really cool volunteer event; giving back materials and supplies to fifty CPS teachers to help set up their classrooms for the coming school year. A big thanks to Target. Each of the selected teachers also received concert tickets donated by Live Nation. The staff at the Godfrey was more than amazing. Drinks continued to pour, and food was often replenished. There were angus sliders, lamb meatballs, chicken skewers, mini egg-rolls, crab cakes, garlic parm fries and dessert bites. I didn't get any food because I was working and when I was done, the food was gone. It did look pretty and it smelled divine. I was able to grab a bourbon berry lemonade. Very good. Of course, I will have to return for one of the Godfrey's special events or brunch. read more

Overall, there are WAY worse places you could stay in Chicago than The Godfrey, but this was a pretty middling experience in terms of amenities and lackluster in terms of service. My employer rented out the rooftop lounge for an evening event as well as the adjoining conference room for three days. We all stayed at The Godfrey. My coworker booked all of our rooms for us; all we had to do was give the front desk staff our names upon checking in. That was too hard for the girl who helped me out, who was about as welcoming as a wet sock and as fast as flowing molasses in the dead of winter. We stood in total silence for at least a couple of minutes while she tried to find me in their system, providing me with no feedback on what was going on while she scrolled endlessly. That gave me an opportunity to eavesdrop on the other guest checking in next to me, who was getting the same level of hospitality (which is to say, abysmal) from the other front desk girl. The hotel had me down for check-in a day too early for whatever reason, and she made sure to note that I was checking in a day late with some serious attitude (even though I wasn't actually late, they just don't know how to take down simple dates and instructions and the error was on their end). I checked into my room, which was quiet and comfortable, though there were some visible signs of wear on the furniture and baseboards. But everything was clean and I slept like a log each night, so that was a plus. The drawbacks: - Ice machines only on every other floor - No bottled water in your room; if you wanted water, you had to phone down to the front desk, who would bring it up to you (according to coworkers that had to do this) - Nothing in your room except coffee - The hotel apparently has such poor sound insulation that security is overzealous with knocking on doors and telling people to be quiet for talking at a regular volume and accusing people of being too loud who aren't making any noise at all. Two coworkers experienced this, including one woman who was getting ready in silence in the bathroom and received a knock on her door telling her she was too loud - Only onsite restaurant has been closed for two years Hotel staff were really great in helping us set up for the party and then working the event. We had so much food available for everyone and it was all REALLY good. The bartenders were working hard for hours in keeping the drinks flowing. The view from the Godfrey rooftop lounge is great and the roof can close if the weather gets cold or inclement. Checkout happened to be with the same girl who checked me in and she was just as cold, incompetent, and unwelcoming as our first interaction. This time she claimed I was checking out a day early. If I were booking my own hotel for a return trip to Chicago, I'd look into other hotels before considering returning to The Godfrey. read more

Arrived on a Tuesday and used SpotHero to reserve a parking spot in the parking garage next door - paid about 37 dollars a day to park which seems fair considering the location, but be advised once you park, you can't leave and return. No problem for us since we planned to walk and Lyft everywhere. Easy to get in and plenty of spots. We were greeted by a friendly hotel staff at the counter. Very smiley and welcoming. Friendly and loved getting a couple small bottles of water upon arrival. Thank you! Our room was on the 14th floor. I booked through their site and they offered an upgrade to a 1 bedroom room for 30 dollars more which was fun. Hotel decor in the lobby, restaurant and hallways is clean and classy. Our room was on the small side for a 1 bedroom, but not tiny just...cramped. It had a small fridge, amazing views with floor to ceiling windows, two large screen tv's. Bed was very comfortable and clean. I don't usually sleep well but I liked the bed a pillows. Why not 5 stars? The rooms was very banged up. I don't know what you all are doing in these rooms but there were gouges in the furniture, walls and even the ceiling! It looked like they had tried to touch up some of the furniture with paint to no avail and that made it look a little trashy. Found a couple long hairs - one on the couch, one on a towel and some spill marks on the walls of a mystery substance but I tried hard not to think what it might be. Deal breaker? Nope. And I'm sure if I had brought it to their attention they would have come in to clean but whatevs. My wife has long hair and I know how impossible it is to catch all of it before it gets stuck to things so some grace is merited. With some updated furniture and a coat of paint - 5 stars. Will we be back. Absolutely - we paid about 179 bucks a night (not including insane Chicago taxes) which was more than fair for our experience. read more

We were here for a quick overnight stay in Chicago; we took a cooking class at Eataly, which was a short walk from here. Location was convenient for things we wanted to do in the city. Front desk staff was friendly. Room was clean and comfortable. We'd consider staying here again. I took off one-star because we encountered something odd with parking on-site: If you pay ahead, you can find them on SpotHero for less than half of the hotel price! 1 elevator down so in wedding heels walked 7 flights, also carried suitcases up and down 7 flights. Sent an email to let them know about it, no response, valet took about a 1/2 hour after the stay. However, the staff at the stand to enter to the rooftop were not very accommodating. Every question seemed to rub them the wrong way. As a "luxurious" hotel, I had the worst experience trying to book a room. "Scott" at the front desk was very rude. After asking him if there was a room with a view, he responded with swearing and telling us we should have booked in advance. He proceeded to insult my friends and I and even became aggressive following us outside the hotel. He stated he didn't give a shit about his job and it was very clear to us that he did not. The Fam and I have spent a lot of time at the Godfrey Rooftop bar for Happy Hour, so The Doctor and I decided to check out the hotel side of things for a staycation. The location of the hotel is great as it is in walking distance of a lot of great places to eat. There is also a great parking lot through Spot Hero where you can park that is way cheaper than the hotel. It is about a half of block from the hotel, so not a bad walk. We got the One-Bedroom King Suite which had a wonderful view of the city. I will say that for a suite it was on the small side when compared to some of the older hotels we have stayed at. But based on the rate we paid at the time ($139), we were not complaining. The room, while on the small side, had all of the amenities needed to make our stay comfortable. We were on the side of the hotel facing south, so the views were great. I am a big fan of watching travel and people while having a drink and this did not disappoint. There was a wet bar and like one reviewer mentioned, it was weirdly located but had plenty of space to store our luggage, which was great based on the size of the room. While the room was on the small size, The Godfrey did right by the fridge. That bad boy was able to hold eight bottles of bubbles and that make me happy. I would stay here just for the fridge alone...HAHAHAHAHA! read more

Valet parking easily accessible. Room was clean. I staycay'd here because I love checking out Chicago hotels. This was chosen with no intent to really leave the building except for breakfast. The rooftop restaurant/bar was utilized as well as the massage services. Since I love to people watch, glad the window opened. I paid for an upgraded room and got a terrible handicap room as a punishment for not booking direct and they won't fix this. The music is so load, I can't sleep. It's 1:30am. A Mid-tier stay.. My 1st rooftop experience at The Godfrey peaked my curiosity enough to want to make accommodations. I don't regret it, but I wasn't blown away. We settled on The Godfrey because we wanted to be close to an event we planned to attend without breaking the bank. An early flight landed us to the hotel before checking in. We tried our luck with hoping to get into our room early. That was a fail. But I will say the front desk attendants weren't even trying to be courteous or even pretend to want to help. Anywho.. We freshened up in the lobby bathroom and continued to wait until about 10 am. Eventually, we were offered double bed accommodations instead of the Queen. We obliged. Got to the room (14th floor), and it was OK. Wasn't blown away, but not a complete let-down. I will say we had a decent room view, and the beds were very comfortable. The bathroom was cool. Definitely could stand some upgrades. All-in-all, it was a fair stay. read more

I booked a spa appt AT THE HOTEL for 11am and when I called 48 hours in advance and asked for an early check-in to accommodate the spa appt, she said they were first-come-first-served, so I asked to have a note made in my file. This hotel is right in the mix of the hipster area in downtown. So of you need a place where you can walk to a bunch of great areas, this is a good choice of an hotel. Oh & you get goodies when you check in!! I stayed in a suite when I stayed here and it was so lovely. King size bed (bed was very comfy!) with a little office space, a beautiful view, little living room space with a TV and couch, little bar/washing area, small refrigerator in the room, roomy bathroom with stand up shower and a good amount of closet space. Not too much to complain about. At night since the area I was staying in the rooftop was close to my view so it was loud at night. But turn the music/Tv up and all taken care of unless you are trying to sleep it may be difficult. Oh and just to report, the water pressure for the shower was great! Always a must talk about. The rooftop is a nice added touch to the hotel, but I will warn you they have a particular dress code. While in town for a gig, I invited some band friends to come by and these are known folks, one had on some jeans and an artsy top with some artsy sneakers and they told him he needed to change before coming in. So that was a bit of a turn off. I promise he didn't look homeless so was confused why...when others in our party had jeans on. They didn't give a straight answer on what the problem was so a few people didn't go in. We walked up just to see the vibe and then went to another spot that allowed us all in. I will say the one drink ordered was delicious. Staff were very helpful and accommodating. Didn't ever have any issues with answering questions. All in all I would go back when I have another job in the area. read more

Rooms were much smaller than expected. No laundry. The elevators were not in good working order, VERY UNSAFE, LOUD, extremely slow when called no matter the floor, stopped between floors. I felt quite unsafe for myself, my family members, and those around me. I have never experienced such a thing in any hotel. The roof top atmosphere was good, I went both nights. Would have been nice to MIX UP the TYPES of music instead of all house/techno. My experience will passed along to my traveling friends and family. Not worth the hype. Check into the Godfrey hotel and Lauren and Kiya take the best care of me. They are amazing! Had the best trip EVER!!! Charging a Mandatory $300 bottle service for a Cabana is excessive. Has a very nice roof top bar, with a severe evening dress code. Good size room, no microwave. no coffee maker, and charging $20.00 for WiFi is ridiculous. The room had smelly old carpet. Everything is broken. A "bouncer" to the rooftop that closes early stalks you till you leave. Elevators only work when they're feeling up to it. This place is not what it's advertised at all. No such luck, very small, frayed wallpaper, scuffed furniture and a very small uncomfortable couch that you did not want to sit on. Very small vanity in the bathroom, cheap, cheap Kleenex and toilet paper and our bedroom window faced rooftop air conditioner units that were noisy. I came here to celebrate a friend's birthday and we had a fun experience! What's fun to do in the Chi winter tundra that gives some mystical moments? Why not hang out in an igloo and some drinks with friends?! That's exactly what we did! My friends decided to book an igloo and get bottle service and Godfrey didn't disappoint! You can still have a cool experience on the rooftop and enjoy the views even if it's cold out. The service was great as well as they offer ice, a variety of juices with your bottle. Our server was very attentive and let us chill in the space for a tad bit longer before they closed but they do close at like 11. You can bring the party in the lounge for a cocktail and a vibe. I ordered the gin fizz which was ok, my boyfriend ordered the bourbon lemonade which was awesome! Drinks are pricey, I can't lie (18-20 a pop) but go for the ambience and go just to enjoy yourself. Coffee makers did not work the first one leaked all over and so did the second one plus it took half a day to get it replacement so we ended up going downstairs to the restaurant. They have coffee. The restaurant was nice. The food was good although they did bring us the wrong order so they took that back. We waited about another 1520 minutes for our order.. The bathroom had no storage space nowhere to set your toiletries which is pretty stupid. I personally would not stay here again. read more

Godfrey Hotel is a nice hotel with a Great Location. Staff is friendly and accommodation. The roof top bar is a must visit. Great views and a nice menu of drinks and shareable foods. We had drinks, sushi, shrimp tacos, sliders, lamb pops. All we well prepared and delicious. I highly recommend the lamb pops. We had a 1 Bedroom suite. Great view from the 16 th floor. The carpet was badly worn in a couple places, which surprised me. The suite was comfortable. My one complaint was the cost for Parking. Valet parking is $75.00 per night. I've stayed on the magnificent mile and paid less. I know it is premium location, but $75.00 is too high. You can self park for about $50.00 read more

A nice hotel that's centrally located in Chicago -- it's a stone's throw from the main shops on Magnificent Mile and the River North area. We stopped by for St. Patty's Day and were able to easily walk to all of our events and other popular touristy spots like the Bean! There's tons of restaurants, coffee shops, and bars in the area as well. The front desk was very helpful and check-in was smooth -- it was easy to make a reservation via Expedia. They were also gracious enough to let us leave our bags there after checking out so we could explore before our flight. The room itself is pretty standard and decently spacious. The rooms tend to run a bit hot, and it was hard to set a temperature that worked -- not sure if the thermostat issue happens in all the rooms, though. The daily 'hotel fee' is a bit annoying and definitely drives up the price a little more than advertised, but overall good for the value and I would stay here again! read more
