The people who work here are usually very nice, but unfortunately I felt very uncomfortable because the person working behind the counter was not wearing a mask nor was he enforcing that customers wear masks in the store. It is currently a state mandate and I believe that it's important that we all do our part to slow down COVID-19. Lone Hill Liquor has to be one of the best beer stores for anyone who knows anything about beer or for those who are looking for older bottles. Cause this has been one spot that I have easily found 08, 09 bottles of Stone beers in the fridge just chilling there. Hell, the other week I found a 2007 double bastard sitting next to a 2008 IRS just in the fridge. So you know that even older beers get the proper cellar temperature. Wait, you must be confused. Why would anyone want old beer? Bud and Coor''s has ingrained it into your head that you need to be looking for fresh beer on the market. That's not always the case. Many times a good year or two of letting a high alcohol content beer sit will balance it out and create a completely different beast. A lot of the stuff is tucked away in the back. The best time to come here is to call ahead and make sure Stan is there. The guy knows a thing or two about beer and has a lot of the good stuff hidden in the back. The way to get to it is by asking him if he has it. So yeah, he's hooking you up. Speaking of Hooking. They have a wide selection of Hookah's in this liquor market. It's actually pretty interesting to see this sub section of hookahs. They also carry a wide selection of wines and other spirits. But for my money the beer selection beats the hell out of anything that the Bevmo a mile or so down could ever attempt to provide. read more

You might see some craft beers you won't see any where else. 5 stars for the craft beer selection. The customer service is not so good here based on my experience. I would knock a star off for that employee that wasn't too helpful, but the selection is worthy of 5 stars. It's worth the drive or stop by if you find yourself in this area. I spotted some Stone collab bottles I have not seen before and rare Belgians such as Fantome and Boon Kriek. Many rarities and Dogfish Head bottles I have never seen in a bottle before, such as Black & Blue. The gentleman at the register seems as if he wasn't knowledgable of all kinds of craft beer compared to other craft beer stores. Usually people ask me if I need any help or have any questions. He did not. And when I did ask him a question, I didn't feel he liked answering them. From reviews I have read, it seems like some people who work here are helpful while other are not. I read that this place, like many other craft beer stores, hides rarities in the back. I think they feel you out and judge you to see if you're worthy of them grabbing something in the back. Craft beer selection is one of the best in Los Angeles. Service is among the worst ever. read more

Great selection of drinks. I mean, lots and lots of choices, and so many imported drinks, too. They even have a nice selection of hookah at this store. The store is fairly big size that you don't feel all crammed up in there like other liquor stores. Last time, (and my only issue) one of the employees (the only one there) was on the phone, and the whole time i was there, he was on the phone. I don't care who you talk to, what you talk about, but, i was never asked if I need help finding something, or... whatever. Customer service from him was not top notch. This place has a really good selection for being in a pretty small space. Unlike the many other reviewers here, I came in looking for a specialty item instead of beer (although now that I know it's great, I'll check out those cases too!) I was looking for this weird anise liqueur for a homemade sorbet recipe and this place had it. I've had a really hard time finding it at most liquor stores, so finding it here was a big surprise, I thought I'd have to go to BevMo. The bottle was on the bottom shelf in the back of the store and all dusty with no price tag, but I brought it up to the register and when I asked how much, the cashier kind of pondered it and came up with $13, which was about half what I was expecting to pay. There's a kind of surreal quality to the clientele here late night -- I came in at around 9pm and there was a guy who wanted to buy one cigarette because he only had 47 cents and asked what he could get for that. The cheapest individual cigarettes they had were like 81 cents, but the cashier cut the guy a break. Then there were a couple of late-40ish women dressed in sorta clubbing clothes who were milling around and loudly telling some story about how it was one of their son's 21st birthdays so they wanted to get him some liquor. When I left, they were sitting on the curb outside the store drinking the liquor they "bought for the son." The cashier, the guy in back of me and I had a discussion about the uses of my weird anise liqueur when it was my turn to pay. This place is pretty fun, it made me smile. read more

Great selection with it's own stockpile of vintage beers here. I got some Stone Highway 78 Scotch Ale here recently.... 2 years after it was initially released! Ah Lone Hill, where I got my first victory at Sea in 2009, two bottles of 2008 Bourbon county stout in 2010. While not in my backyard by any stretch, it is about a 45 minute drive, and worth a stop on treks to and from Northridge, to the Bruery in Placentia for me. The look, feel, and overall function is that of a liquor/convience store in a strip mall. But the 8 or so coolers filled with craft beer make it stand out. While they do carry many brands (that sell well) that other chain warehouse stores sell, they also get great seasonal, once a year, limited, rare beers as well. Good stuff from San Diego lands here, Alpine, Ballast Point, Green Flash, etc. They also seem to get some bi-annual shipments of Uptopias as well. Have not yet had them bring up beer 'from the back', though I've heard this to be ture at Lone Hill, so I do know they do have some reserve stuff. Since I'm not local, not sure if I'll ever know what is truly back there, but from what I've seen on the shelf, I'm still a happy camper regardless. Certainly worth a visit if your in the area, and should be a must repeat stop for any craft beer enthiusiast. read more

The reason Yelp exists is for places like Lone Hill Liquor. Lone Hill Liquor looks like any other liquor store, in any other strip mall, in any other city in the IE. But, appearances are deceiving. Inside is a huge cooler full of top-notch beer. Belgian is his specialty. And Stan loves to chat it up about beer - who doesn't? I have no clue how Stan got the hookups from places like Russian River, but I don't really care either. The only downside, and its not even really a downside, is that I believe some of the beers are more slow-moving inventory. I've gotten one or two that I thought weren't the most fresh, so be careful if you're a beer snob and are buying IPAs. However, I will say that I bought an AleSmith Summer Yulesmith, released in summer '09, sometime around December '09, on sale, and it still tasted great. I don't think I ever would have had the opportunity to try it otherwise, so thank you Stan! read more

The place is smaller and more personal than some of the larger liquor stores I've been in. (I bought an AleSmith Anvil ESB pounder, and it was nice - not too hoppy). He has Goose Island beers from Chicago. He was one of the first in SoCal. to have DogFish Head beers until recently contracted to a larger distributor. He even has Three Floyds from Indiana. Of course, if you're into more Belgian style ales....He's got 'em. Cantillon, Rodenbach....Man this guy knows his stuff!!! If there's something you've heard of that only Lone Hill has you gotta act quick 'cause they go quick. This is the best beer liquor in SoCal. Prices are reasonable, but a little on the high side due to the logistics of getting these rare beers. The local stuff is usually at the list price i think. Wow. I feel bad reviewing Lone Hill Liquor because I don't want to unleash the secret that is Stan. He is amazing. Because of him, there is one of the best kept beer secrets in Southern California and that is the selection at his liquor store. He has everything any hophead or belgian lover or stout-crazy beer fan could desire. When I visited, I almost died and went to heaven. I saw beers that I had rarely seen in real life, or had never seen on a beer list. My personal favorites include Allagash Black, Trappistes 10 (not 8, or 6, but 10!!!), Speedway Stout, and Gouden Carulous Trippel. He has some rare beers in the back that he has had to pull because of lack of popularity - make friends, visit a few times, and then ask him because he'll be glad to show you what he has! Stan is a real beer enthusiast and he tries his best to recommend something new to you, even if you are a seasoned beer vet. Lone Hill Liquor is off the Lone Hill exit on the 210 freeway, in a random strip mall next to a Stater Brother's. It looks just like any other liquor store but instead, it is filled with magical and wonderful surprises - AMAZING CRAFT BREWS! Say hi to Stan and tell him he has a growing following!!! Large craft beer selection, everything is refrigerated pretty much with some hard to find Stone beers that haven't been for sale for a long time, mostly their 12oz collaboration bottles. They also had some older Unibroue anniversary beers going back to 15, 16, and 17. Other than that, it was a typical good local selection of the usual suspects. Ambiance is heavily lacking though. When you first walk into Lone Hill Liquor, it looks like any other liquor store, but if you walk to the refrigerator section and look closely, you don't see Amstel Light and Coors, but glorious imports and microbrews! I was overwhelmed when I took my first gander, but Stan was super helpful! One of the finest beer stores in the greater LA area. Visited four or five times since 2008. Spent over $150.00 once and $200.00 the second time on rarities (hard to find and vintage brews). The other two times, I spent virtually nothing. Why not? Read on... I drove 35 miles one way to get there, so I guess that's a good indication of how highly I hold this place in regard. Makes BevMo and the like look very sad in comparison. Minimart ambiance complete with lotto players and macro drinkers. Service really depends on who's there. If you don't get "the beer guy", you won't get to access any of the special brews lurking out of sight in "the back". And for me, that's why I come. I guess you need to check ahead and see if (name withheld) is working. Selection is outstanding. No food to speak of, unless you want a candy bar. They have a great selection of beer and the owner said he gets a lot of stuff from Russian River Brewing so Pliny the Elder is often on the shelf. They also have a little selection of Hooka's and I bought one for my finacee' and it has worked great. They also have a pretty good wine selection although I am not into wine so I couldn't say if they have anything rare.
