I've been here many times with my family, and I'm not sure why we keep coming back. The service is lengthy to say the least. To give you an idea last time we went in on a Sunday after church and we're there from the 12:00 hour to the 3:00 hour. Furthermore, we were the only family in the restaurant, or at least the front section of the restaurant (it being broken into three, the front, a bar, and an outdoor). Speaking of the front section, despite being the designated non-smoking section you can still get a good wiff of burning nicotine if you are seated in the right place. All this would be overlooked if the food were great, but while it's good it's nothing special, especially not for the prices they charge. I'd advise you save yourself the trouble. This is the best burger you will get anywhere, hands down. But don't eat inside, it reeks of smoke. Eat outside and only get a burger. I can't attest to all the items on the menu but aside from the burger I think it's pretty standard bar quality. The burger on the other hand... this must be local beef because it's incredible. Crab dip was fantastic, beers were cold. Service was very friendly and we never had empty glasses. The smoke eaters work pretty well and it doesn't bother us that much but if smoke bothers you it's not recommended. read more

While out riding our motorcycles Saturday, we began to get a little hungry and so we pulled into this place. I'd never been there, but was assured that it was biker friendly and the food was good and the beer, cold. After parking the bikes, we headed inside the tavern via the unassuming green door. What greeted us was a quaint, cozy bar and a friend bartender. We ordered the mini corndogs and BBQ wings to go with our beers. The bar food was yummy and hot, hitting the spot for a couple hungry bikers who were out enjoying the day. The BBQ sauce wasn't quite as sweet as I like, but it was tasty. The mini corndogs were served with honey mustard sauce and were good. The ambiance of the tavern is a clear winner, so it's now on our list of must-hit spots when we ride out west. read more

On our way to the San Damiano center in White Post, we stopped at the Lone Oak Tavern (http://www.loneoaktavern.com/) for an early dinner. I had learned about the Lone Oak via a Google "White Post, VA restaurants" search. The reviews that popped up sounded really good so I thought it would be worth trying. The restaurant is an unassuming place near the intersection of Lord Fairfax Highway (Hwy 340) and Hwy 50 (aka John Mosby Hwy see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_S._Mosby for more on this Confederate legend). We arrived at 4:30 so I wasn't even sure if they were serving yet. We were greeted by Brooke who assured us that we were welcome. We were the only ones in the front dining room, which looked recently redone in mauve and pink with white tables and chairs, frankly a little like someone's Granny decorated it. The tavern is in the back with TV over the bar. The restaurant had a decent menu and Brooke told us about the dinner special that night, prime rib, which wasn't ready yet, but would be at 5 o'clock. We had plenty of time, so we ordered some beers--I had the Lone Oak stout, which was quite good--and waited. Brooke provided stellar service and checked on us while we were enjoying our brews and promptly at 5:00 she returned to ask us what we had decided for dinner. We chose the prime rib au jus. It came with a nice mix of vegetables (I think it was brocolli, green beans, & julienned carrots) and I ordered fries as my choice of starch. The prime rib was a good size (4x9x2 inches by my estimate) and prepared perfectly. We had heard that the Lone Oak served fried cheesecake so we had to ask to confirm our information. Sure enough, Brooke described it as a piece of usual cheesecake in a "chimichanga dealio" deep fried. Though intriguing, we were both stuffed so we passed on it this time around. read more

Lone Oak Tavern struck me when I first walked in. I smelled something familiar, nostalgic even. It reminded me of being in my twenties. What is that intoxicatingly familiar smell? I sat down at the bar and found my answer. Ashtrays! It is a smoking bar! Wow, I haven't been in a smoke-friendly bar outsied of Vegas in at least 6 years! I am not a smoker, but I rejoiced to see that the bar catered to the victims of one of the last acceptable prejudices: Smokers. I loved it. They can offer a smoking bar, because the restaurant has it's own entrance, and does not share the same air as the bar. The choicest beer on tap was Yuengling, so I started with that. While the bar is a little more working class than most of the establishments I frequent, it was fairly welcoming. I spent a few hours at the bar one hot Thursday night in June, with some locals who were out to unwind after a hard day's work. I tried the buffalo wings, and the flavor was very good, but they were slightly overcooked. I heard that the burgers and steaks are made from local beef, but I wasn't hungry enough to go for a full meal. The owner had recently been married and as a courtesy bought a round for the bar - Grey Goose no less! I thought it was an interesting place, so I stuck arounf for a while. They are open late, and what had started as a chance drop in, turned into a full night of cheap drinks. PBR pitchers were $5 so I went slumming and shared a few with my neighbors at the bar. My son told me that he had an "amazing" hamburger here so we thought we'd give it a try. I'm sure happy we did!! I got the Open Face Roast Beef Sandwich and the better half tried the Cheese Steak Sub. On the recommendation of the waitress, I also got Brussel Sprouts as a side. The sandwich was absolutely perfect and, even thou i'm not much for them, the Brussel Sprouts were out of this world. I can't wait to go back!! read more

This place was ok. Food was basic and edible, but nothing special. They allow smoking at the bar in the back and on the outdoor patio. There is a non-smoking dining room, but the smoke from the back inevitably wafts into the dining room. So, if you have kids or a low tolerance for 2nd hand smoke, choose another spot!! read more

love this place. i always have a really great time here when visiting my family and the food is awesome. also, the service is wonderful and the new management has really turned this place around. the jukebox provides for a nice time, especially if you've had a couple of their reasonably priced beverages and make use of the dance space directly in front of it. If you like to eat in a disgustingly smoke filled bar, then enjoy. The front non-smoking area, reeks of stale smoke and cheap air fresheners to hide the smoke. This used to be a nice little family owned restaurant/tavern. Now it's just a dirty bar. read more

I really always have a great time when I am here. The jukebox is fun and the live music is as well. Great drinks and good prices, always with a friendly bartender, and delcious and filling food. There is nothing for miles around and nothing in Winchester can quite compare. read more

Once in a blue moon this place is ok. I don't like how they keep the same specials ALL week. Paid. Prices are too high if you order a sandwich with no sides you pay the same price as if you did get a side. Got a BLT even said with Mayo, lettuce and tom..... No mayo!!! and bacon was old. read more

I was excited to try the Lone Oak, since I recently moved into the area. I wanted to hang with the locals, and I knew this was the place to do it! I checked out the menu online beforehand and figured out what I would order. Unfortunately, when I walked into the front door, I was greeted by the pungent, permeating smell of cigarette smoke. The "non-smoking section" signs on the wall were so ironic, I felt like I was in a hidden-camera show. There were only swinging doors separating the bar from the "non-smoking" restaurant and, clearly, they were useless in providing any barrier to the smoke. Such a shame. It's a cute place and I really wanted to like it, but I couldn't have stomached staying there long enough to eat a meal, and I knew I'd have to shower and wash my clothes to get the smoke smell out as soon as I left. read more

Great country tavern with a relaxed atmosphere and great staff. Best bartenders and servers in the area. Food is exceptional. Try the specials. The Chef outdoes himself regularly. Smoking permitted in the bar but separate front dining room for the non smokers and a large outdoor patio for temperate weather. A great crowd of welcoming locals and regulars. read more
