Burgers? Life-changing. Staff? Needs some work. Insanely rude. Let me start by saying this: the burgers were unreal. I'm talking top-tier, soul-healing, "I've been in the sun all day and this just saved my life" kind of delicious. Even the fries were elite. It was the perfect post-float meal and I would absolutely eat it again... Now, let's talk staff. I get it--river crowd, summer chaos, probably a lot of rowdy and half-soggy customers. But our group? Completely chill. And yet, from the moment we ordered, we were met with enough attitude to season the dang fries. The young girl at the counter was so unnecessarily rude, I had to remind myself I was on vacation and not auditioning for a reality TV fight scene. Our order got messed up a few times, and each trip back to the counter felt like approaching a dragon in a burger joint hoodie. The energy? Immaculate... for a villain origin story. Truly some of the coldest customer service I've ever experienced--and I've been to a DMV and many other restaurants. Growing up, Lone Star Float House was always one of our favorite places on the Guadalupe, so it's really disappointing to say how bad our recent experience was. This past weekend a large group of us came to float the river and from the moment we walked in, the customer service upstairs was rude and unprofessional. The girl with dark hair and glasses working the register was extremely nasty toward our group, even though there were barely any other customers there. At one point my brother turned to ask his fiancée a question about food, and she literally waved her fingers in his face saying "jingle jingle" asking if he had his parking pass. Later, while explaining the process for getting on the bus downstairs, she said, and I quote, "when you guys have your shit together." Completely unnecessary and disrespectful. The other short dark-haired girl taking food orders was not much friendlier. We had to repeat a very simple order multiple times -- just two hot dogs and chili tater tots -- and it still came out wrong. When we went back up, I simply said I'd just pay for the tater tots separately, and instead of helping, she dug through the receipts trying to prove we were wrong. At that point I didn't even care whose mistake it was; I just wanted to buy the food and move on. The only positive part of the experience was the staff downstairs. The ladies helping with parking and the girl helping air up tubes were all friendly and helpful. This was our first trip to the Guadalupe River and we randomly picked this place to use for tubing when searching companies. We made a great pick! All employees we encountered were friendly from the parking attendants to the float staff and then the restaurant staff after we got back from our float. We chose to do the longest float offered to give us more time on the river and we had a blast(About 3 1/2 hours)! Went through a few small rapids, walked a bit in the shallow areas, and ended going through the shoot right before we made it back to the Lone Star. We went up to the restaurant to eat because we were starving after the workout the river gave us lol and man the food hit the spot!! We both had their famous burgers with regular and sweet potato fries. Everything was delicious!! After that we headed back to our Air BnB because we were wore out but if you're looking for more time in the water they do have a nice hang out area with tables or bring your own chairs and sit in the water however long you want. Been tubing at this location quite a few times and never had any issues. If you're tubing, you have to park at the lot on the lower level adjacent to the river. Depending on whether you've come on a weekend or weekday rates vary so check their website or give them a call. Parking will include 1 or 2 tubes (weekday/weekend). Also, come early! Once you pay the parking attendant and they'll give you a slip which you'll take up to the restaurant where you'll pay for any additional tubes and sign wavers. You'll also choose your route based on how long you'll want to float. There are bathrooms where you can change. Small but available. When you're ready, make your way back down and load up on the shuttle and tell your driver which route you've chosen. There's food and drinks available for purchase. Since you're outside city limits, you can bring cans and plastic on the river but make sure you dispose of trash in a plastic bag and NOT in the river. Overall, staff at lone star is very helpful and happy to serve customers. Definitely a chill vibe so be ready to just sit back and relax and enjoy the river. On our expedition, we saw some goats climbing the cliff sides so keep an eye out for wild life! It was entertaining to see. read more

Beware: Safety Is NOT a Priority Here After Dog Attack We had to cut our river day short due to a terrifying and dangerous situation that management failed to take seriously. After completing the one-hour float, we picked our spot, set up, and were settled for less than 20 minutes before everything changed. A pit bull latched onto the neck of a golden retriever completely unprovoked. The retriever yelped in distress, and it genuinely looked like it might not survive. Our grandson witnessed the entire horrifying attack. Instead of removing their dog from the property, the pit bull's owners stayed--loosely holding the leash at times, even dropping it while the dog swam toward the retriever again. The lack of control was blatant, and yet management's only response was to casually tell them to "keep the dog on a leash." The dog was on a leash. The problem was that the owners weren't holding it. This is not enforcement, this is negligence. To make matters worse, one of the guests who immediately downplayed the situation, saying the pit bull "isn't vicious", appeared to be either an employee or close with management, as he got into a golf cart with staff to address the pit bull's owners. A female manager later admitted he was "biased" because he owns a pit bull himself. She even tried to justify his perspective by telling us that, when the pit bull was a puppy, another guest once approached it with a knife. While I sympathize, that has nothing to do with the fact that this dog just attacked another unprovoked. Excuses do not change the reality of what happened. The most disappointing part was management's reaction, or lack thereof. They did not prioritize the safety of guests, the comfort of families, or even the well-being of the attacked dog. Their attitude made it clear they cared more about defending pit bull ownership and personal bias than addressing the true severity of the situation. We had been frequent visitors here and always enjoyed the convenience: great food, drinks, floats, and good times. But safety is more important than fun. Watching management minimize a dangerous incident and put other families at risk was enough for us to pack up and leave. We will no longer spend our money at a place that does not value guest safety. If you're considering coming here, please think twice. This is no longer the safe, pet and family-friendly environment it once was. Until management takes real action to protect guests, it is not worth the risk. read more

I struggled on what rating to give this place. I came here on Sunday with my husband and our friends after floating the River up the road. We shared the bacon cheeseburger, a side of cheese fries and and side of onion rings. Everything was enjoyable but the prices seemed a little steep. Our friend ordered the steak nachos and those seemed like a great choice. Limited seating outside, but we were lucky to find a table for all six of us after a few minutes of waiting around. The place seems like it is ran by teenagers wasting time during their summer job, and they gave us all attitude when we asked a question or two. Then if you have any questions go to the Lone Star Float House website before you get there so that you understand the prices for parking and the rules. It's a great family place dogs are allowed lot of locals hang out. The locals are happy to answer your questions. Most of us have worked there or are work in there we want you to have a nice experience. Please don't be rude to the locals. They sacrifice their summer. No styrofoam no glass please. If you park downstairs you have to pay a parking fee. Or you can park up top eat and then go down to the water for an hour. My friends and I just checked this place out yesterday. The check in process is kind of confusing, as is their pricing, and their website has almost no information. On the weekends, it's $40 to park, and that covers two people to float, and includes tube rentals if you need it, so don't ride alone. Their tubes are just plain black tubes without head rests or cup holders, so I recommend bringing your own. Those things bake in the sun. Little more expensive than over places I've gone if you have your own tub, but not insane. They have 4 different options for floating. When we were choosing, it was listed as up to 1, 2, 3, or 4 hours. Chose the longest float, and it actually ended up being more than 6 hours. Definitely longer than we wanted to be out there. They had updated the board by the time we got back. The problem of this was that we had enough sunscreen to cover us for 4 hours, not six. My wife and I are lobsters today, but wouldn't have been if the times were correct. We went through an entire new can of sunscreen, so it's not like we forgot to put it on. The float is absolutely beautiful at times. Large rock cliff faces that were really great to float through. The problem was the water level. We were constantly getting stuck on rocks and having to get out and pull, or crab walk the tubes through. No where near the lazy float I was looking for. I'm sure this is the reason for the incorrect times estimate. The water was even too low for the "chute" at the end. Everyone was getting stuck and having to pull through. In the end, I gave it 3 stars because the workers were pretty friendly, and the burger lived up to the hype. Tots were great too. But I don't think I'll be coming back to float. Drove down lots of winding country roads at around 10 pm to get here, needless to say i was a bit apprehensive. But.... Absolutely loved the atmosphere, very family friendly, I saw dogs and little kids wandering around. I ate BBQ and drank ice tea on the porch over looking the river while a country singer charmed us all with his guitar and southern drawl. The food is excellent, all my companions cleaned their plates. It was a perfect place to spend a Texas summer night. Lone Star Float House & Grill offers up some great fun on the Guadalupe River. Not only do they offer some great cheap food they also offer tube rental trips ranging from 30 minutes to 6 hours. They have a dog friendly shuttle that drops you off at whatever point you want to start. They serve breakfast so you can grab a breakfast taco before your tubing or/and have lunch or dinner when you float back. We ate on the dog friendly deck but they also have booths set up closer to the river that serve burgers, dogs, fajitas, beer and sodas at 1.00 - 2.00 less than at the restaurant. Their menu offers breakfast, lunch and dinner at very low prices. I had the fried shrimp basket that included fries for 5.00 - both were delicious and crispy and not greasy. I do not remember the price of my friends burger but she raved over it. Olivia the 13 year old loved her 3.00 grilled cheese and made me taste it - yes it was good as were the side of tator tots! We just did "The Chute" a fast flowing portion of the Guadalupe that you can walk back to and float as many times as you want. I look forward to doing a longer float. FYI: 1. The outline of the place was very nice considering it's one of the only places to eat in the area. When ordering the whole menu is on a chalkboard above you so you have to beware of that. The view is great as well with the river in the background and I would say the food was awesome! Not awful but not the best food I've ever had. Great place right up on the river. Great to stop an eat while floating down river or drive up to after floating for some dinner. Really good burgers and fries, even better customer service. The burgers are very filling and you can tell it's fresh ground meat not just little frozen precut circle patties. Make sure to specify if you want fries because burgers don't come with them. One star for the rudest girl ever behind the counter. Seriously, the rudest girl ever (short hair, short temper, not at all helpful when the wifi was down and our phones weren't getting service. Pulled up and paid $40 to drive a mile to a parking lot and wait 45 min for a bus to pick us up to take us back to the float house to get our tubes- just to find out they ran out of tubes and didn't have a timeline of when they would be available again, but that there were 17 families ahead of us waiting for tubes already. After waiting another 45 min to see if any tubes would be available we gave up. Couldn't find a bus to drive us back to the car, so had to walk a mile to get our cars. Lone star lacks organization. When we arrived, there was a line around the building and we figured out it was a line for food AND to sign waivers to get on the bus. This makes no sense to anyone since half was there for food and half was to sign waivers. Why isn't there just a food line and another line for waivers? We waited at least an hour before we could get up to sign the list. Their process to count how many floats needed or bus ride was not well established as we were at the counter for 15 minutes for them to figure out the price (which we ended up figuring out ourselves). The pricing was a rip off for a ride to the destination (if you brought your own float) $16 to ride a bus like 2 miles. The floats you could rent weren't good for what you pay for. There weren't hooks to tie string to, the black tubes were so hot with the sun beaming on them, no head rest, etc. There's places that I've been to that hasn't taken so long and also with cheaper prices. We had a great experience here. We did float midweek though and it was not too busy. Float was great, the staff was very helpful. After we floated, we had the famous $6 bucket of beer and appetizers. My husband and I have gone to this place every year for the past 3 years. If you want to eat before or after you float the river you must have their burgers. They are made fresh and are wonderful! This is also the best place to float from. I am one of those people that hates floating in everyone elses pee... Not sure how many people like to do this, but if you float closer into town you are always right up on top of people. Where they drop you off it is so quiet and serene. Of course, if you go during peak times of the year, it has some crowded spots, but still funner than being so packed in. I have been so happy every year that we go in here. This past year I brought my best friend and her sister, whom both hate to be in their swim suits in public and they both had a blast. He's very willing to work with you and will return your phone calls. The staff was completely helpful despite my questions and requests. They did everything with a smile too. The guys who took us on the trip were very nice and respectful. Good deals and the food did smell good. Only negative is that they had a smaller vehicle and couldn't support our large group in one car. They did quickly find another vehicle to transport us. If it rains soon, I'll be back.
