Went here for a quick dinner with a bunch of friends after work. Everyone needed a drink after a loooong Monday. I have been here numerous times and have always wondered if I am visiting at the wrong time. The service has always been iffy and apart from the fajitas, the food is average. The last visit was no different. The server brought out the wrong order, forgot drinks and then left the bills on the table for 20 minutes before checking back on us. Just paying the bill took about 40 mins for the 4 of us. Not Impressed...especially when the server keeps telling you that he is tired and a bit hung over! The ambiance is very interesting and has an interesting feel. I like this location since it is one of the few places to eat in the area. I am sure I am going to end up here for a quick bite soon but am not really looking forward to it! read more

The good: Not much. The bad: Went here just before Christmas and waited 25 minutes for a drink order. Our table was next to the servers area and we could see and hear 5 waiters and waitresses talk and put orders in but completely ignored out table. After 25 minutes we left. I met a friend here for lunch and was shocked when she said she had never been to Lone Star before because she lives like 5 minutes from the restaurant and it is one of those Ottawa staples that most people have been to a time or two. I was disappointed this time around because they said there was a charge for chips and salsa so we didn't get any... not sure when that happened or if it is just a lunch thing the waiter didn't explain. I ordered the buffalo chicken fajitas with guacamole and my friend ordered the fish tacos. It was cinco de mayo so I obviously had to order a margarita also and it was quite tasty. The buffalo chicken fajitas are always really good and so very filling. The place is always a little bit loud and is a work place lunch favourite so always busy but the service is always good and the food usually comes out pretty quickly. The food is always the same quality no matter which Lone Star you go to and everyone working there always seems happy to see you. I wish the fajita sides came with a bit more and I could do without the rice (I don't love it and it's really just a filler - I want that sour cream, cheese, pico de gallo and guacamole!). I love that the buffalo chicken comes with ranch dressing also. The fajitas are to die for - always so hot and fresh and if you have any leftover to take home they still taste good later. Either way I recommend Lone Star - get the fajitas and a margarita and you can't go wrong! The only reason this didn't get five stars is because the chips and salsa are not free anymore. read more

The food and drinks are always good. I especially like their mini margaritas. Service is pretty consistently good. The atmosphere and decor are fun, if not a bit too loud. Only problem is that there is often a wait in the late afternoon/evenings so you may want to call ahead. read more

My meal here was good, nothing to write home about, but not bad. I went with the steak fajitas tonight and the meat was seasoned adequately, but I was given small amounts of lettuce, sour cream, cheese and pico de gallo. The tortillas were freshly made and good. The rice that came with the fajitas was under seasoned and fairly bland. read more

I've been a loyal customer for over 20 years. Heck, both my girls were raised on fajitas. This has been a mainstay restaurant for our family. I have to say since moving corporate from Otttawa to Toronto, this chain has definitely changed - for the worse. I still laugh watching the staff deal with the weekly uniform changes, trying to flambee fajitas and waiting with baited breath to see if it will be the rousing success - which it never is - they're just fajitas! I managed to get the old BBQ charge stayed... We've been loyal through all the changes but now having to pay $1.00 for chips and salsa (eat-in) when I'm already paying overinflated prices for fajitas to begin with - nope. I'm done! read more

Gift card in hand, we gave Lone Star a second shot. Total 180°! We came in and were seated immediately in a booth (my favourite seating option) and at our request were given crayons and kids menus for tic-tac-toe, word find, and other gaming options. Score! Snacking chips showed up instantly and our waters and ginger ale quickly followed. On recommendation from our server Longhorn, we each ordered tacos. Andre had the cabo and I had the beef, but we traded one-for-one and tried both. The tacos were really good. I had ordered a caesar salad for my side. When I told Longhorn it was really fishy for my taste, without a pause, he offered to replace it. Excellent customer service! He recommended the deep fried ice cream for dessert for Andre to cool down. It was a really good looking dessert which Andre shovelled down with delight, despite being too full to finish the last half of his third taco. I had lots of leftovers which is always nice. The food was great, service was excellent, and we had a lovely date! I think that I have reservations about going in with a large group because last time they couldn't guarantee a table either with a reservation or with my mother-in-law showing up three hours in advance; however with 2-4 people this is a great dining option. read more

I showed up to Ottawa late in the evening and wanted some dinner. I decided to try this place based on the reviews. The service was horrible and the food was even worse. I got the baby back ribs and they were so salty that I couldn't eat more than three ribs. The Caesar salad had wilted lettuce and was drenched in dressing, probably to mask the wilted lettuce. The soda tasted almost flat. The only descent part of my meal were the French fries. The menu said they were potato wedges but they were just regular fries. Either way, they were descent. If you are looking for a good meal, don't go here. read more

I cannot like this place as much as I used to since their renovation. Longer wait than told at the front. People who came after us went ahead. Do not mind waiting for my turn but you can tell from the wait list people who came after us were seated first. The food was average. Service left a lot to be desired. Went there for an office lunch and got the lunch portion of chicken fajitas and an iced tea. Despite hearing the plate arrive, the meal itself was a complete let down. How disappointing considering how good it smelled and the sound it made. For 15$, you get hardly anything on the plate, the chicken has virtually no seasoning on it and the quantity of guacamole and pico de gallo you get is laughable. The server seemed to be having an off day and was flustered more often than not; forgot a few peoples orders and who had paid. All said and done, tip included this meal shouldn't have cost anywhere near 24$. Especially since I only got an iced tea and never offered a refill. One of my coworkers opted for nachos with chicken, thankfully they were half price (usually 20$.. yeah, just for a basic plate of nachos) because there were hardly any toppings to speak of and they couldn't even cover all the nachos with cheese. This isn't the first time I've been disappointed by this franchise. Go anywhere else and you'll be much happier. read more

FAJITAS!!!! Best atmosphere, and food! The staff tho sucks sometimes. My dad was refused when he tried to order something at the bar. He had 1 drink, sober and was refused and his wife whom had drank more than he did did not get refused. Its was uncalled for. But I would still recommended it just because the food is worth it. It's a basic sports-bar/crowded house restaurant. We went there for 3 steak dinners but ended up totally turned off. We were going to order the 9oz steaks with a side salad at $24/each - but were told that they didn't recommend them rear or even medium rare and suggested if we wanted that - to buy their $28 steak. We were quite turned off at that - who sell's a steak that's such poor quality that you can't order it rear. Instead - 2 of us ordered Fajitas ($21/plate) and one ordered the chicken/rib combo ($24/plate). Our drinks came to another $26. We left paying just over $100 for the meal/taxes. Tip was over and above that. The verdict on the actual food - it was ok, very small portion of meat for fajitas, chicken and rib combo was a tiny rack of ribs (1/4 rack maybe?) and 4 wings. I've had much better sized servings elsewhere and the quality was ok, but nothing to write home about. Point blank you want a nice steak dinner or tex-mex - you should likely check some of the other spots around the city. It's a shame - Lone Star was one of my favourites growing up in the Ottawa area. read more

This restaurant's salsa would draw anyone in for miles....it is mouthwatering and the chips are a piece of heaven. No way to be able to hear yourself think or even talk with the music so loud. Liked the previous look it fit better with what type of restaurant 'Tex Mex' this is. I will have to remain a take out girl. read more

At Lone Star you may have to wait to get a table, but you will never leave hungry. This Tex-Mex style chain offers large portions of pretty standard fare. The food is consistently good and if you have been waiting for 25 minutes for a table, the complimentary nachos are a great way to keep the 'hangries' at bay. While I can never eat all of the food I order, I know that some people love that their portion size means that they are getting their money's worth. Not really my motto, but what is great about Lone Star is the kid-friendly quality. Our waiter, 'Hoss', brought a bunch of dough balls, crayons and even an over-sized foam ten gallon style hat for my son to wear during the meal. Stellar inter-personal experience, good food and my beer arrived quickly. What I found disappointing with Lone Star was that their wifi network requires you to either sign in through Facebook or submit your email address for access. Since I am one of the last 12 people on earth NOT to be on Facebook, my only option to access their wifi was to submit my email. I generally prefer to click 'I agree' after not actually reading terms of service agreements (and why am I not on Facebook??), but I also don't want to have to input my information for access. Since the wait for a table can be so obscenely long, better systems of access for internet would be really appreciated. read more

Decided to come here for dinner. Was told by the hostess that I could wait for a table and I told here since I was by myself that a seat at the bar would be preferred. Once I noticed the bar was full I was close to going somewhere else but hostess told me it would only be 5 minutes for a seat because the people at the bar were just waiting for a table. I decided to go ahead and wait for a seat at the bar. I stood less then 5 feet from the hostess stand to wait for my seat. Before I knew it there was 3 more groups of people at the bar that were waiting for a table and just drinking water while they waited. If this is how they treat paying customers I can say that your money is better spent elsewhere probably McDonalds would be a better choice next time. This is a great restauraunt with something for everyone. There are many restaurants around that are just carbon copies of one another but, this place stands out. There are many great dishes there but, the Steak Fajita's are by far the best I've ever had. read more

This is the second time in 2 months that we have dined at the Baseline location and although the food tasted okay on most of our plates there seemed to be a little extra within the meal. What I mean is the first time we had what seemed to be a piece of a skewer under the burritos and the second time there was a piece of plastic in the guacamole. For this we received a bag of chips and salsa and the second incident got a a little over 16 dollars off our total. ARE THEY KIDDING ME ? If it were one of my grandchildren that bit into these instead of my sons I would have gone ballistic. the service wasn't anything to right home about either but that's a whole other story. Twice in a small period of time is too much to take. I don't think we'll be going back to this location and I've had better Tex-Mex food at other places for a lot less $$$.I don't usually complain online but I'm sure there's at least 1 other that's had an experience like ours and if there isn't count your blessings and avoid this place. read more
