I cannot recommend this highly enough. Our guide, Kelly, had old pictures and knew so much of this history of Old Las Vegas. It was amazing!! He told us where to get affordable water (ABC stores) and why ABC stores (which are Hawaii-based stores) are around, took us through the history of so many hotels and the highlights. We did this in December, so I am sure it is a lot hotter in the summer, but there is a lot of indoor space. I'd still recommend a water bottle. All of us loved learning and he was a great story teller. You go all the way down to Container Park and get some coupons and restaurant tip sheet at the end. You will be on your feet for two hours so wear comfy shoes. But we actually would consider staying down in "old Las Vegas" the next time we come, all because of this tour.

We loved learning the history of Vegas and about the revitalization of downtown since this is where we were staying (and how this happened). We were taken into casinos we otherwise wouldn't have stopped in. Did you know there is an award winning pool in the golden nugget...we didn't. The two hours flew by and our tour guide offered suggestions for local eats. I recommend this tour if you want a bit of a history lesson on how Vegas came to be.

Our guide was Luis, and he was incredibly knowledgeable and hospitable - he really attributed to a wonderful experience. We were accompanied by 8 other people that we didn't know, all of whom were very nice. After an early morning pickup at our hotel in Luis' van, we went to three other hotels to pick up the other people for the tour. First stop was the Fabulous Las Vegas sign for photos, and then a group breakfast at McDonalds. We then went on a very picturesque drive out to the Hoover Dam, and we spent over an hour there, enjoying the sights and learning about the structure and its construction. Lastly, we drove out to the West Rim of the Grand Canyon. We enjoyed the glass bottomed Skywalk, and then took more photos around Eagle Point. There was plenty of time to check out the gift shops. We saw some replica Native American structures, and enjoyed watching some dancing. We then drove to Guano Point for a picnic lunch, a hike, and plenty more photos. Before the drive back to Vegas, our guide stopped by the Joshua Tree forest, and we snapped a few photos. It was such a wonderful day! FIVE STARS.

I received emails and texts telling me exactly where to go, what I should bring, and what they provide on the experience. I knew exactly how to get in touch with my guide and exactly what to expect. 2. They have glass bottom kayaks! I felt very secure in my kayak even as a beginner and no one in our group came close to tipping over. 3. We weren't rushed at all. Our guide Jordan gave us several breaks, took us on a short hike to get the best photos, and invited us to swim in the cooling water as well. A lot of companies rush you to the Emerald Cave and back, but we were able to enjoy the entire Colorado river experience. 4. They employ Jordan. Ask for Jordan if you go (though we did interact with other Outdoorster guides who were all very friendly and helpful). Jordan had snacks and water for us, took tons of photos, was patient with all 10 guests, had helpful information and suggestions about Las Vegas, and was just a genuinely friendly gentleman. We had a BLAST and have enough photos and videos and memories for a lifetime - but I'm sure we'll be back again soon for more!

A place that throughout the years has seen its share of theft, murder and even nuclear testing as entertainment for tourists back in the day. Can you imagine? Beyond the glitz and flashing lights of Vegas, there are morbid tales. And what better way to hear about it than on a ghost walking tour of the strip with Vegas Ghosts? Tours last about 1 hour ($21 per person), with an option to do an extended version with 1 hour of extra spooky tales (and just $5 extra per person). The meeting location is right on the strip by the Fashion Show Mall, making it super convenient. Our guide Cody did a great job keeping this upbeat (for a ghost tour). But why is Las Vegas haunted? Well, you'll have to take the tour to get the full story. In short, death and murder has always been associated with Vegas, going back to the land grab from Las Vegas Paiute Tribe then later with the mobsters who weren't exactly afraid to 'pop off' anyone who didn't pay up. Nearly every hotel on the strip has a ghost story to tell. Though you'll likely never hear much about it in the news since it's not exactly the image of Vegas. There is big money in Vegas, and nearly every hotel has some sordid tale. This is the story of Vegas you won't see in the news. Legendary celebrities like Liberace, Tupac and Bugsy Seigel, as well as ordinary individuals simply in the wrong place at the wrong time, are a part of the city's infamy, their spirits linger on and curse the dice in Sin City. One thing is for certain. We won't think of our time in Vegas ever the same way again, especially while staying at the Cosmopolitan Hotel, one of our favorites on the strip. Let's just say, it's seen its share of deaths with numerous falls (intentional or not) from its hundreds of balconies. Creepy! Advanced reservations for Vegas Ghosts are highly recommended and can be booked directly from their website.

I called the 800 number. No answer and no voice-mail available. I then emailed the vendor, all while still waiting out on the strip, and later received a text only asking if I wanted to rebook. Still no response from vendor on whether the tour ever happened (and left early?) or not at all. On a related note. The reviews on the website are fake. They are dated in the future for a tour that hasn't even gone out yet! (I had plenty of time to look at the website, mostly looking for a contact number, while waiting for the tour alone on the Strip.) Postscript. I received a call from the tour vendor the next day saying the guide "had an emergency" and couldn't make it. And the other two groups had cancelled. I was left waiting out on a curbside on the Las Vegas strip with no call text or email saying the tour was not going to happen. Again, the vendor asked if I wanted to rebook. After wasting an evening, plus uber fare getting to and from the the tour location, there is no way I'd give this vendor another opportunity. Better to spend your money in the casinos. At least you have a slim chance on a return on your investment.

In my youth I could run like a gazelle....well, maybe a gazelle with a cheetah attached to one leg. This is not the case now. At this stage in my life, I run like a hippo, who is capable of quick speeds over short distance...a sprint that in short order becomes a lumbering trot. At 260 lbs, I have built myself up over the years in a different way, but I want to be better at running.....I really do. Never really heard or knew much about trail running. I had seen some trail running crazies while out and about in the Mojave and other difficult places. I have even seen them ditty bopping up to the peak of Mt. Charleston. I thought of this type of physical fitness activity as hardcore...and sometimes just plain insane. Since arriving at my current assignment, I have often heard from the more cardio fit coworkers spinning tales of being out in nature and getting after it on dirt trails. The conversation extended into trail shoes, playlists, trail names, fitness watches, and phone apps. Though I was never really a part of the conversation, I eavesdropped and a statement struck a cord with me. It was said trail running makes you a better runner on the hard top. Really? I love nature. I like fitness. I want to be a better runner. I then heard about Law Dawg Trail Tours (LDTT). For $30 bucks, LDTT would come and pick you up (house, hotel, etc.), and guide a trail running trip for you. I hopped on the computer and scheduled a trip. I spoke with the owner/operator, Josh about the when and the wheres. Josh is clearly passionate about trail running, trail running in Southern Nevada, and wants to share what he knows with others. He informed me the trail we would be taking did not require trail shoes, and my current go fasters would be fine enough. We set a date to go run the Calico Basin Trail and made arrangements for him to pick me up at my house at 7:00 in the morning on a Saturday. I woke up to a torrential downpour occurring outside. I was good to go, but was not sure if LDTT would be. I checked my phone and there was not text or phone message. Then I received a text at approximately 6:30, letting me know Josh was on his way. At 10 minutes till there was a light knock on the door. Much appreciated as it did not wake up the GF. I stepped out into the rain and placed my gear in an immaculate (minus being wet) looking Toyota FJ. Josh asked me I wanted a water or a snack but I was content with my bulletproof coffee. Off we went into the cloudy, rain soaked morning. While driving to the trail head, Josh threw out multiple factoids about Vegas, and that transitioned to factoids about the Red Rock area when it's beauty came into view. It helped cut the edge off nervous excitement I was feeling. When we arrived at the trail head, the rain was a still coming down. Josh gave a quick brief on the trail and running tips on how I should attack it. He threw some water, first aid kit, and other gear in a back pack and pointed the way. With a beep of his watch, we were off. We chatted about this and that as I enjoyed the cold, wet morning. With the first splash of a puddle, I was immediately reminded of my childhood and looked for every puddle to splash in after that. With every step I enjoyed my rising heart rate enjoying the surroundings. The desert a majority of time is one tough bitch. When in the desert during rain, you get to see and experience it's almost softer side. Water can most certainly invigorate and/or weaken just about anything, including the Mojave. The trail split this way and sometimes that way, Josh was behind me giving direction...tips on the value of duct tape, and.......more factoids! We would eventually summit a rather large hill after an approximate 500 foot elevation gain. I would imagine this vantage point offers a great view of valley below, but not on this day. The valley was sacked with moisture laden clouds. Not to matter, the clouds hanging around the Red Rock area, made for a beautiful and seldom seen landscape. After a photo op, we headed back down to complete this 3.5 mile trail. After much fun, many puddles, and spying a lone jack rabbit, we ended up back at the FJ and with a beep of the watch...we were done. With a huge smile on my face, I swapped out gear for some dry stuff. One thing I noticed as I was throwing on my flip flops, was that my knees, hips, and lower back weren't as sore as when I normally run on the streets. LDTT is punctual, knowledgable, friendly, and more than reasonably priced. I would imagine even a Uber/Lyft from anywhere on the Strip is going to be a pricey proposition. But to be picked up on the Strip or any other area of the Vegas for that matter, and taken to whatever trailhead you desire on the website, and guided after that...It just can't be beat!! I am now a convert!

When I would follow up, he always said he had asked other members of the team to reach out to us while he was away for his family, and they just never did. Jonathan always apologized and said he'd make it up to us. This happened time and time again, and we still consistently told him we're still willing to work with him - only to get ghosted for the last time a few weeks ago. He stopped replying to me completely. I have never seen a single draft of an itinerary. The ghosting is so unprofessional. If he didn't want to work with us, he should have just said so instead of trying to turn us off like that. I wouldn't recommend this company to anyone. Attached are a few different-dated screenshots. But over the last year, I have discovered I like the taste of whiskey! Call it age....call it a more advanced palate....whatever you call it....mama likes! I never want to do things without educating myself, so what is a lady to do? Go to a class of course! Seriously....if I could have taken these classes in college....I would have been class Valedictorian! First of all JD was so accommodating, we had a change in our schedule and he came in on an unscheduled night so we could have the class before leaving early the next morning. The Whiskey Attic is located about a 10 minute drive off the strip in a quiet more industrial area. I like to point these things out because I like to know what to expect when driving to unknown areas. We took an Uber and it was easy to get a car to and from the location. JD greeted us at the door and right away we picked up on his brilliance about everything from sports, history and Whiskey of course! Because we were the only two there for this course it was a nice date night but honestly this would have been fun to do as a party, business ice breaker, or just something different. We did the introduction course, and not only did we learn about whiskey but wines, beers, anything you could want to know. And because The Whiskey Attic isn't trying to sell you product, you get to learn about all varieties, countries, and regions without being pushed to a particular brand. JD walked us through how to taste whiskey and how to drink it! After our class, JD asked us a series of questions and chose a selection of 6 brands he though we would like (the place is beautifully full of whiskey and JD knows where every bottle is) and we commenced tasting his selections! He nailed my tastes down to a tee and I enjoyed every one of the sample! We definitely want to go to the more advanced class next time we are in Las Vegas. I feel much more confident about ordering whiskey when I am out and about knowing what I like because of this class! Loved meeting JD and am looking forward to our next visit!
