If you like beer and you don't wanna dress up and maybe you wanna take your dog (or at least be somewhere you can visit OPD... yes, Other People's Dogs), then this spot is for you. Even if it's a little out of your way, it's a great post-work spot or a good stop on the weekend. Always a food truck, always good beer options, always good people. And if you wanna try lots of beer, just get a flight! TIP: Don't come dressed up. You can, but it's picnic table and bar seating... comfy jeans and a tee are perfectly acceptable here. read more

I have heard several people saying that this one of the best bars around. And I must say I'm very disappointed. I've been in there twice now (both on sundays, as that is the only actual free day I have) I don't know how that bartender still has a job! Her attitude is absolutely terrible, she also doesn't know how to pour a beer properly.. how does that work while being a BARTENDER in a BREWERY!? When the customer asked her to fill it up more (it was a little over half full when she put it down) she gave the person attitude and gave a little splash then said "that's all you get." She sits on her phone instead of taking care of her customers. Her poor bar back was doing her job for her! Absolutely terrible and I will certainly not be coming back to this establishment. read more

It is very bare bones with not many thrills. They have nice picnic tables that is nice for relaxing outside. I wish they would put it some corn hole boards or darts. Went to Lonerider after a long hike in the Umstead state park, and it was a perfect way to end the day. There is plenty of parking, even when the place is packed, and is very easy to get to. Five stars for their beer. Hoppy Ki Yay had an awesome hoppy bitterness and smooth aftertaste that I find hard to find in most east coast beers. The Peacemaker was also very refreshing. I didn't have a beer that I didn't like, which is impressive. The venue isn't overly pretentious, which is another plus. The main bar area is a somewhat small enclosed area, but there is a large seating area under a tent. Overall, lots of seating and a very chill atmosphere. This is my new favorite brewery in the Triangle. read more

Love the brews! Love the food truck, 454 Grill! We had a couple if IPA's. We're from San Diego and we love IPA! This is our first night in Cary and this is precisely our favorite brewery atmosphere - understated start-ups make the best brews. 454 grill is fantastic! They have the spice, the flavor, the sauces! We had the margarita sandwich (I lived in Naples and they got the traditional flavors right!) and The Cuban! Both delicious! And, loved the Cajun Home Fries! The beer we had was, Hoppy Ki yay (nice finish!), and our second favorite was, Addie's Sweet Revenge (nothing sweet about it! We live that!) Sorry they were out of their double IPA ... Next time! So glad to hang outside with our sweet pup. Nice locals atmosphere! read more

Brit and I showed up here with friends in tow this past Friday and stumbled across quite a few of my coworkers. Darn, I thought I'd found my own personal oasis. It takes a little bit to actually locate the front door. So helpful note-Turn Left at the Texaco (if you're coming from 540/70) continue past the first set of shops on the right and pull into the gravel parking lot just past the trees. The semi's block the view of half of the parking lot so feel free to continue past as the front door is around the side of the loading dock. So now that the logistics are over...moving on to what we came to do. Sample some beer. Currently the Deadeye Jack Porter is the "seasonal" brew. To me it is a bit darker but with the same flavor profile of their Sweet Josie Brown Ale. Obviously both favor their own style-Brown vs Porter. Being a big fan of Browns and Dark beers I had to relinquish my want to quaff many a pint and instead stuck to the Shotgun Betty-a great tasting wheat beer with the fruity spiced notes you expect from a classy Hefeweizen. I also had my share of their Peacemaker, a rich hoppy pale ale. Their lighter beers are lower in ABV than their darks, but they still pack a decent punch. The pints are 3.00 each and were poured to us by the Ex-NYer Jackie. She works for tips, so don't be stingy. I wanted to get a Growler but as this was a pre-game event for the evening I was unable to. The pricing on them is 13.00 for the growler and 9.00 for refills. Not bad for 64oz of some delectable fermented beverages brewed not 5 miles from my humble abode. I will definitely be back as it has almost everything I'm looking for - Close proximity to the house and great beverages. Now if it only had AC, the NFL package (well any TV for that matter with access to ESPN would be just as good) and some food I'd take up permanent residence. read more

This place is in a great location right near briar creek in Raleigh. The indoor area is very, very small with dark wood paneling, tiny bar and limited seating. Since sitting inside is not ideal, it's best to go here on a nice day where you can be outside. There are no bells and whistles here (which is fine) but once outside, the strong smell of barley was overwhelming so we only stayed about 30 minutes. Street and gravel lot parking is available. read more

Great breweries have a great vibe and Lonerider has just that. Tucked away in an industrial office complex, this place is a hidden hangout. Beer and cornhole. What more do you need? Prices are awesome and Valentino's food truck is usually parked there just in case you're feeling a little hungry. What's awesome is that they make some of their food with Lonerider beer! They have an indoor and outdoor area. Awesome for days with good weather. Seating is a little limited, so be prepared to stand. They also sell t-shirts, beer mugs, pint glasses and growlers! read more

After multiple visits to this brewery, I am ready to upgrade Lonerider's rating to 5 stars. I think this is one of the best breweries in the Triangle area. Their new covered outdoor patio and extended hours make visiting the brewery a better experience than it was in the past. I also really appreciate the fact that Lonerider is dog-friendly. The main bartender, Jackie, has also brought our dogs treats on past visits. I really appreciate small touches like this. Another thing going for Lonerider is that they also have some of the best beer in the area. I have yet to be disappointed in any of their beers, with my favorites being Mad Doc, Shotgun Betty and the Preacher. All of their seasonals have been enjoyable as well. The only suggestion I could possibly make to Lonerider would be that I believe the tour could be improved. We went on the tour on a recent Saturday and it only lasted about 15-20 minutes. I did not feel like I learned much on the tour, and at $3 a person (without any samples), I did not feel like this was something I would recommend others to do on a visit to the brewery. However, the tap room atmosphere and the excellent beer make this a 5-star spot to me and a place we will continue visiting regularly! It will be an especially fun spot to visit with the weather warming up! read more

One of my favorite local breweries, and Shotgun Betty never fails to appease my thirst. Lonerider does a great job with not only their brews, but also their brand so it's no surprise that they've grown into themselves and a larger distribution over just a few years. The tap room itself leaves a little to be desired, but it's hard to fault them for the limitations of their space, and I confess, I've not yet been on the full tour. But if you get a pint in the tasting room, plan to do so on a day when the weather is nice so you can enjoy it out on their patio over a game of cornhole. read more

Great brewery for locals of the triangle to visit. They've kept their lineup small over the years but consistent. You'll find at least one option for everyone, although you won't find air conditioning in the brewery (bring on the heat!). The location is small but you'll find lots of covered outdoor seating. This is a great spot to meet up with friends, but I wouldn't say a must hit brewery if you're visiting the area. They offer up good beer, I really enjoy the Hoppy Ki Yay IPA ($6/pint), but it's not the best you'll find in the triangle. read more

I tour of all the local breweries continue. This time I took my sisters who were in town out towards Brier Creek to try Lonerider. One of my sisters is a big fan of their branding (who doesn't like cowboys?) so that seemed like the obvious choice. Lonerider is located close to the highway, but far enough off of it to be in its own little place. They only have a tasting room, now restaurant, which is kind of a good thing. There was a food truck there but we really did not want to eat, so I didn't really even look at it. The tasting room is very simple, basically just a bar with some picnic tables inside and a patio on the outside. The bartenders were all very nice and quick with service. Now the main reason you would go to Lonerider, the beer. I have always been a big fan of Peacemaker Pale Ale, so of course that was my first choice, but I ended up trying almost every beer they had. They have half pints which are the perfect size (and price) for someone that wants to try several different beers. My favorite beer I tried that day was their Hot Spur Red. It was a good Red beer with a nice Hoppy taste to it. If I lived closer to Lonerider I could see this being my go to place, as with it being removed from the colleges it has a more young professional atmosphere to it. read more

My birthday weekend saw my fiancé and I going on a small brewpub tour of Raleigh, North Carolina. When I think of the Tarheel state, I most certainly don't think of beer right away. But the state capital has quite the little scene growing up quickly. All they need is a couple of small boutique, extremely snobby brewpubs to round out their offerings. You see, every town needs four tiers of brewery to be complete. You need the shitty spots to make you appreciate the good ones. You need the tried and true (and cheap) middle-of-the-road option. You need the aforementioned expensive spot that only serves their beer in fluted glasses. And then you need a spot that is extremely high quality, always reliable, and not too expensive. This is where Lonerider comes in. My fiancé and I almost skipped this spot on our Raleigh brewery tour due to the fact that it's a bit out of the way and we'd already had a lot of their beers in the bottle. That would've been a mistake! Lonerider turned out to be one of my favorite non-food-serving breweries that I've ever been to. There's not much to the tap "room." It's basically a tent set up off the back end of the brewery with a bar, a few tables, a back porch, and a bunch of fans trying to keep fans of the brewery a bit cool during the hot North Carolina summers. It's simple and rustic, and it's all you really need if the beer is good. And it is. I was very impressed by the quality of the beer served here. When I visited there were five beers on tap, and a sixth available in bombers. The three standards are Sweet Josie, a many-award-winning nut brown that is sweet, smooth, and delicious; Peacemaker Pale, an average but tasty offering; and Shotgun Betty, a wheat beer that is somewhat spicy and that I enjoyed even though I don't typically enjoy wheats. Their two seasons included True Britt, an English mild that was malty and awesome, and The Preacher, a Belgian saison that was refreshing and spicy all at the same time, and also my favorite of the bunch. The bartender is obviously there all the time. Photos of her hang on the back wall, standup cutouts stand by the side of the bar, and most everyone seems to know her. She does a great job. There was as food truck during my visit, but I didn't get to partake and don't know if that is the norm or the exception. Either way, the beer is what makes this place great. My neighborhood brewery, I am an outlaw at the Lonerider Brewing Co. The Brewery itself is situated in a warehouse located just off of Westgate Boulevard near where I-540 connects with Glenwood Avenue in the vicinity of Brier Creek. I met two of the owners, Steve and Sumit, on one of my first visits and enjoyed learning about the brewery's history. Steve and the other staff at LoneRider were very friendly and gracious in answering my various homebrewer questions. LoneRider holds brewery tours on alternating Fridays and Saturdays and also have a tasting room that is open Thursday-Saturday (check their website for tour info and tasting room hours). When we stopped by they had their Shotgun Betty (hefeweizen), Peacemaker (pale ale), and Deadeye Jack (porter) on tap. In addition to getting a pint at the bar for a very reasonable $3 or filling up a growler ($13 for a new one, $9 for a refill) they now sell six-packs if Shotgun Betty and Deadeye Jack. Word has it that in addition to picking up a six pack at the brewery, you should now be able to find six-packs in the local Harris Teeters and Whole Foods and Lowes. read more

I've enjoyed Lone Rider beer since their first tour. I like their beer, they're close to my house and those who work there are friendly. They added a tasting area to allow people to drop by and try their beer at the brewery. If you twist their arm they'll show you the whole operation and even smile the entire time. Before it was added you could really only visit by signing up for a tour, so it was a welcome addition. Some things to keep in mind - this is a working brewery, it's in an industrial park and all the parking is on gravel. Since cooling a large warehouse costs quite a bit, there is no A/C. They have a huge garage door they open up and there are enough fans that it's not horrible. They do have a deck area, with corn hole - the deck is really just a loading dock with a wood fence around it, so don't expect umbrellas and tables. I tend to purchase beer in kegs and they do allow you to buy kegs at the brewery. They're much cheaper than getting them at Total Wine just a mile down the road - so skip the middle man and snag them from the source. Bottom line - good people, good beer, don't expect a country club treatment. read more

It's about as good as it gets. I love the warehouse, "feels unfinished," industrial vibe of Lonerider. They make great beer. They have 3-4 year-round taps, 3-4 seasonal taps, and then about 3-4 small batch "Ales of ill repute." It's an easy place to grab a beer. Definitely good craft beer without the craft beer snobbery crowd. It's all good. read more

I just recently moved here from San Diego. I did not know what to expect from NC, So my wife surprise me with a local finding. Their product is superb I had nothing but great breweries in San Diego Raleigh NC no worries here this has become my favorite beer. Not. Only the beer the customers are awesome. The bar servers are nice and very knowledgeable on their products. I have tasted all their beers they are all excellent. Three other of my coworkers that we all enjoyed the beer in San Diego we are Sold on this local jewell. read more

There's something special about a decent brewery with great beer, plenty of space, and a chill crowd. It's tucked in the corner of Raleigh near the airport without much in the area apart from this oasis. There's ample outdoor seating at picnic tables and a handful of spots in the taproom directly. I've stopped by a couple times and the staff is always on point. The beers are all top-notch and reasonably priced. They offer a wide selection to suit a variety of tastes. Want to catch up with a friend while throwing back a few beers? This a great spot to waste a couple hours. The crowd is pretty varied and interesting and the atmosphere is everything you want in a decent, local brewery. read more

I'm not exactly sure what it is about breweries I've visited in the Triangle, but this it the third one that is open air and therefore HOT during the summer. Regardless, they serve up a delicious brew that is refreshing on a hot summer day. The shotgun betty is definitely my favorite. It's a light, citrusy, Hefeweizen with a hint of clove which makes the flavor a bit more complex. The sweet josie is also really good. While it is a brown ale, the flavors come through like a stout to me, with rich hints of chocolate and caramel. The beer is cheap ($3.50 for a plastic cup full) and the atmosphere is very casual and relaxed. Be forewarned, it gets BUSY here for happy hour on Fridays. We waited10 minutes at the bar on more than one occasion. read more

Another feather in the Triangle's bourgeoning craft beer scene. For the masses of beer consumers most folks are probably familiar with the main three beers Lonerider does: Sweet Josie Brown, Shotgun Betty Hefe and the Peacemaker Pale ale. All three are I would say average/good ales, but particularly my wife and I dig the Sweet Josie and hold it up there pretty close to what we consider the best Brown ale, Newcastle. But, certainly SJ has one thing going for it is that coming from the local triangle area it sure beats hands down on freshness and if you take a visit to the brewery it doesn't get much fresher than that. I actually got to take a tour of the brewery my first time here, and was neat to see their operations and how they've started out and continue to grow. I met their CDO or as he put it "Chief Drinking Officer" and heard his story how he and his partners from Cisco decided to quit their IT jobs and decided to make beer. Speaking as a fellow IT job holder; their is hope for me yet! It was interesting to learn that their tasting room here started out only when a patron of their beer stopped by and asked if they would consider doing some samples/tastings, so they said "OK". Their tasting room isn't much bigger than than a sidewalk/porch which just happens to have a bar and has enclosing and heat lamps when it's cold. Food trucks stop by and supply the grub to soak up the suds and tonight when I was visiting Barone Meatball Co. truck was there. In addition to the three main beers they distribute they had quite a bit more special batches of other varieties. My hands down favorite of the night was the "Ain't No Horses in France" Belgian Noir. Very full flavored and robust. They had a barley wine, an amber and even an blueberry infused one, but I tend to stay clear of fruit infused beer. Definitely a fun tasting and hangout for some tasty fresh beer for sure. Can't wait to come back again sometime. read more

Quick update! I was preggo my ego when they did their HideAway addition, and today I finally got to experience the new layout of LoneRider's tasting room. Holy cow is it different! Awesomely huge glassed in room with picnic table benches and high top bar tables; and access to a totally outside deck. It was packed today (expectedly so, 65 and sunny!), and we still managed to find a nice spot on the deck to enjoy our delicious beers. I love my Sweet Josie, but I was in the mood for an IPA to go along with the warm weather and their Addie's Revenge did not disappoint. I of course had to get a Sweet Josie as my second beer, and it was perfect as always. Love the new hangout area and can't wait to return for more beer yumminess. read more

As someone who's not a fan of wheat beers or super-hoppy IPAs, I was very pleased to see a number of different selections on their menu. I had a blonde ale and an American amber and both were excellent (I also tried my friend's pale ale which was also very good). This is a typical minimalist brewpub with a bar stuck on the side of the warehouse that holds the brewery. The only reason I docked them a star is that the seating area is outdoors and facing west and was surrounded by clear plastic curtains, resulting in an extremely hot venue (i.e. greenhouse) as the sun set in the early evening. I don't know how they get anyone to come here after work (assuming they do). They need to remove the plastic or put up some opaque curtains or something. All of the seating was very uncomfortable except for the bar stools. I would be eager to come back here again but maybe not until October or November. read more

BTW, they do not serve food, although Porchetta does have a food truck outside the brewery. Beware of the bees!!!! I went today with with a few co-workers and 2 bees flew into a co-worker's Shotgun Betty and one into mine in the course of 10 minutes. Not to mention we were swarmed by at least 5 bees the entire time and we overheard another table complaining about the bees as well. I lost over 3/4 of my beer to the bee drowning in it and the bartender was horrible about replacing it. After acknowledging the bee in my beer that I showed her, she walked away twice before asking if I'd like another drink (to pay for). To also clarify, she didn't have anyone else buy a drink for a minute before me nor shortly after me. She clearly didn't care to even take my order promptly after dealing with their bee issue. My co-worker is deathly allergic and she showed absolutely no compassion towards the situation and claimed they don't have bees. We would have sat inside but it smelled like skunky beer inside and was a hot box! They didn't turn on the A/C despite it being 91 degrees today!! I've been here several times, and their bathroom permanently smells like wet dog/dirty vet's office. My co-workers and I are avoiding this place in the future. Very very disappointed by this experience. Update: It's the same day and I just got to Hickory Tavern (yay for A/C!). The Shotgun Betty is $3 versus the $5 it was at Lonerider. Shouldn't it be cheaper to get it from the brewery itself??? Go elsewhere if you want a taste of their beer!!! read more

I love Lonerider beers. Sweet Josie is my go-to beverage around town (also a fan of other others). You can try all of their traditional beers at the tap room, as well as seasonals and some special cask ales if they have them. They serve pints and smaller tasting pours. Their tap room is small and it stays packed. For example, I once went on a random Wednesday night in the winter when it was pouring down rain and I spent the first 30 minutes I was there standing up because there weren't enough seats! They have an awesome outdoor deck, so I'd recommend attempting to time a visit with nice weather. It also makes the place feel less crowded. Food trucks are also frequently outside, and you can bring in outside food. read more

This place has some really good beer. I'm a fan of the Peacemaker and Shotgun Betty since I started to drink craft beer. Their beer can be found just about at every grocery store and tap room with craft beer. It's good stuff. However, their tasting room is off the beaten path and can sometimes be confusing. I happened in one day when an even was occurring and was required to exit to buy tickets to be used back in the original tasting room. When I asked about getting a growler I was told most of their drafts were available. The first 3 I asked for were not available. Kind of frustrating that there wasn't a list of available beers. Also make sure to ask if the beer you are getting is draft else you may end up with a can. With that said, their beer is very good (and even better on draft) and the folks behind the bar are friendly. The only real reason I'd shy away from it would be it's distance but then again that may not be a problem for folks out that way. read more

Mmmmmm. Beer. Lonerider is one of those places I wish I'd known about sooner... it would have saved me a lot of sat staring off at the side of the road as I drove back and forth past the Red Oak brewery on the way to and from work events. The tap room isn't big, but it's cozy, and pretty awesome whether you're there for a summer gathering that spills outside or something a little more intimate once the temperatures drop. I am also a HUGE fan of places that have various food trucks pull up on different days of the week - who doesn't love a little variety with their (delicious, yet totally affordable at $3 a pint) beer?! The Shotgun Betty's my usual pick, but I'm looking forward to seeing what Lonerider's got in store as the seasons change! read more

Saunter up to this brewery after a long ride in your iron horse and saddle up to the bar. Leave your Colt 45's outside, there is no room for swill in this joint. Jackie will take good care of ye' if you behave properly. The Preacher be my beer of choice. Just like any actual preacher, this beer will show you how to do it right, but only evoke unruly behavior at 7.5% ABV. Food trucks roam the territory. read more
