Margarita (5/5): love that it doesn't taste only like margarita mix and you can tell there's alcohol. Salad (4/5): tasty salad, has a little kick to it. Al Pastor Taco (5/5): my favorite, so tender and delicious. Fish Taco (3.5/5): decent, nothing amazing though. Carne Asada Taco (2/5): the meat was dry. Churros (5/5): so good and loved the sauces. Came here on a day that was a little warmer and got to sit in the patio which was so nice. They had a variety of drinks on the menu and I got their frozen margarita swirl with mezcal which has a smoky taste to it. Got their shrimp and fish taco but they gave me a chicken instead of a fish taco that's why I gave them only 4/5 stars but it was still good. Their chips and salsas are a classic the habanero salsa is spicy but it's the good kind of kick to it. The cilantro salsa is very fresh. Parking was easier than expected for late Saturday afternoon which is always a bonus in my suburban book visiting our favorite city. Kathryn and Jenny behind the bar were friendly and helpful. We sat at the corner near the bench on the end and it was perfect. We might try that bench next time for primo people watching access. The fresh chips arrived hot with guacamole that had good flavor without being overly spicy and just the right texture with the pickled jalapeños on top. We added the salsa duo to the mix and immediately had too much food to consume but everything tasted excellent. While the record player laid out some chill music, we enjoyed the garlic rice, refried pinto beans, Baja fish taco, al pastor taco, chicken tinga taco and the dynamite shrimp taco. The fish arrived on a flour tortilla which made sense to hold up to the toppings while the others made their appearance on corn tortillas. Nothing fell apart so the sauces and toppings were clearly placed with care. Happy Hour boasts a house margarita that went down a little too easily. I added tajin to my rim. They also had PBR and a couple other things that I wasn't focused on. OOPS!! We missed brunch by an hour or two but I heard it's worthy of a visit on Saturday or Sunday. I have been to lonesome rose many times! Their food is always full of flavor, and they serve up some great margaritas. I would recommend getting a table on the rooftop weather permitting. I love their Baja fish tacos, and have also gotten it as a bowl! Their queso and salsas are also phenomenal. The only downside is they close quite early and often stop seating tables as early as 8pm. So I would plan to get there before the rush or try them out for lunch! read more

This was our second visit to Lonesome Rose in Logan Square. We arrived at 6 PM on a Sunday night and were seated immediately! This was unlike the first time we visited when we waited a long time. So, we were very happy about that. It's been a couple of year since we were there so I don't recall what the menu was before. I don't do gluten or milk products, so my diet can be somewhat limited. Lonesome Rose offers a number of dishes that can be made vegan and gluten free, so my selections were broader than I'm used to. We ordered a variety of items at the table, but I can only speak to what I had. For a beverage, I had a Mexican Coke. We ordered guacamole and chips for the table. The guac was outstanding - creamy and fresh. It wasn't spiced at all, or at least that I could tell. But it was very good as were the chips. With my diet, the idea of having nachos is not something I'm used to. But they can make theirs dairy free. So, that was what I ordered for my meal. It had vegan queso and vegan crema - wow. I am a meat eater, so I'm sure it was strange, but I ordered the vegan nachos with Barbacoa. My only issue was for the added cost of the Barbacoa, there was very, very little on the nachos. They were otherwise quite good. The service was also very good - they did make one small mistake - even though we were seated, they first brought our order to-go - oops. They corrected it very quickly, though, and were very gracious about it. They have a wonderful selection of liquors, and under normal circumstances I would have had something, but we were headed to a bar to see a band play right after, so I skipped drinks. But, next time we go, they have some very good bourbons I've wanted to try before but haven't had the chance. I'll be trying them next time. read more

Came here on a Saturday for brunch. The breakfast burrito is everything that social media says it is. Its a large portion, delicious flavor, and a good mixture of ingredients. I would come back just to grab this! My family ordered the breakfast bowl - small portion, but good flavor, the elotes benedict - delicious and the tater tots on the side were a perfect side dish, and another breakfast burrito! Came by because I was craving TexMex and Chicago has pretty slim pickings. I was craving proper queso and Lonesome Rose was able to deliver. The interior is simple and very casual. There is a outdoor rooftop as well as a patio. Service was pretty slow and very hit or miss (we waited for 5min for a hostess to show up when we arrived, and our waitress had a habit of disappearing for long periods of time). On a weekend afternoon on a beautiful day, there wasn't a wait although the outdoor spaces of the restaurant were pretty lively. Docking a star for the slow service and the prices. Tacos are $6-8 each which seems insane for just getting one. Overall, the food here isn't anything special but if you are looking for the right TexMex flavors this place certainly has the proper options. read more

We were celebrating a friends birthday and decided to come here. I've been to the Andersonville location, but not this one. The Logan Square one can easily be missed as its on a corner at an angle with little signage. There is street parking around the restaurant. They have a roof top area which looked nice, but was closed until mid April. I do prefer the Logan Square location to Andersonville. The food tasted better here. We were a bigger group, so I didn't get pictures of a lot of things. Our server was helpful and answered any questions we had. I had 3 margaritas on the rocks- strawberry, mango, raspberry. All were good and the drinks were made well. I wish the drink was a bit bigger for the prices. I think some things were pretty good on their menu and certain ones can be hit or miss. We went during brunch, so we had that menu as well. We split nachos and corn for the table. Both were good. Then I got 2 tacos- baja fish and fried chicken. Both were flavorful and good. Someone got a breakfast bowl and didn't love it- it just tasted bland. We also got red velvet waffle- although it didn't have any red velvet in the batter, which was odd, el dorado tacos, pastor tacos, and a special taco. We also had churros for dessert. The el dorado tacos and churros were good- the rest was okay. What's interesting is the tacos all come out together, not split up per order. Overall I would come back here, but I wish the food was more consistent and the pricing weren't as high for the portion size. I got 3 small drinks and 2 tacos with zero sides- spent $75 with tip. 4* Outdoor seating on March 28 with 70 degrees is always welcome. Seating is limited so there is a wait. They have 2 bars. One in the main floor and the golden tear drop in the "basement" sorta like a speakeasy to keep you entertained. They have some really cool drink choices like boozy horchata with rum or whiskey. We'll take ours with rum please. The food and the service unfortunately is just OK. We got chile con queso, Baja tacos and the dynamite shrimp bowl. All were toned down not to offend anybody, resulting in a somewhat bland execution. The horchata ice cream was more vanilla(too sweet) and less horchata This is really only three stars in my book thus the 4*, but I'm giving it a four because I know the vast majority of the clientele here would like the food and the space is cool. Hands down one of the worst dining experiences I've had in a long time. If you enjoy being ignored, disrespected, and overcharged for a bite-sized appetizer and a thimble of a cocktail, congratulations--you've found your spot. Our waiter showed up wearing sunglasses, acted visibly annoyed that we didn't immediately rattle off our order like we were on a game show, and then completely ghosted us. He waited on tables that came in *after* us while we sat there like an afterthought. We eventually had to walk up to the host stand just to pay and leave. And let's be honest--this place isn't even busy enough to justify the attitude. It's all aesthetic and zero authenticity. On my first night in Chicago, I went to check out Lonesome Rose, a restaurant I'd heard a lot about. Upon walking in, it's so cute and fun vibes only. The staff there were all super courteous and my server Bella was amazing from beginning to end, constantly checking in on me and other tables to see if anything else was needed. Started off with the guava mezcal margarita, which was so good. Not too sweet and gave me a nice little buzz. I wanted tacos so got Sal's carne asada and the fried chicken. I was also given a side of pickled onions which complimented both tacos perfectly. The carne asada had loads of good flavor, meat was nice and tender. The fried chicken had pimento cheese, hot sauce, and pickled jalapenos. A flavor bomb, in a good way! I also ordered the chicken empanadas, which was my favorite out of the 3 dishes. Fried to perfection, lots of ingredients inside from chicken to corn to beans, and the green salsa that accompanied it was the icing on top. For dessert, Bella helped me decide on the horchata soft serve and recommended her addition of crushed peanut butter pretzels. First, the soft serve is a huge portion, I could barely make a dent in it, even though I wanted to eat the whole bowl if I could. I loved the addition of the PB pretzels because I am a sweet and savory kinda gal. I truly wish we had a dessert like this near home because I am craving this now! Highly recommend this restaurant that also has a very cute rooftop dining area, bar with karaoke, and outdoor seating as well. For sure it's not a surprise this isn't authentic. It's a hipster take on Mexican food. Lonesome Rose may not be traditional, but it's certainly good though. Has a lot of interesting options on the menu. The prices can get high on some things, but there's smaller things to eat if looking for cheap stuff. Cool inside as if there was a Tex Mex atmosphere. It has the inside and a patio. There's pretty big cocktail and food menus, and it can take awhile to order. Already I knew the drink was going to be the House Margarita. This is made with Corazon Blanco tequila, agave nectar, and lime juice. As for the food we could not get enough. It's about $12 for a burrito and sides. A choice and the one I got was the Lonesome Vegetarian Burrito. Jam packed. This can be made vegan by removing cheese and crema, and replacing with an avocado sauce. Also there was beans, cabbage, pico, salsa, tater tots, and meat substitute made from garbanzo beans. This burrito is enough for a couple people. Get some Americanized Mexican food as this cool joint. It has a crap ton on the menu. There's also plenty of options for vegans and vegetarians. read more

Great spot for a happy hour (til 6pm) if you're in the Logan Square area. During hh, we got $5 house margaritas and an $8 chip & dip platter! Both are so worth it! It was great getting a sampling of all the dips--our fave of the four were the classic cheese dip, as well as their pineapple habanero. They have $2 tacos on Tuesdays. My favorite was the al pastor taco--great pork and pineapple flavors, and I like eating my taco with salsa so I poured some of the pineapple habanero salsa from my chips and dip platter onto it, which enhanced the taco for me. Service wasn't too quick to order but we were having a good time talking to each other so didn't mind, and the orders came out relatively quickly. It's a nice social ambiance, with a bar area if you don't need/want a table. The lighting is a bit dim. Loove me some Lonesome Rose! Came here on Tuesday for some happy hour specials (and you should too)... every taco is $2! They also had a special on their dip assortments and frozen drinks. My go-to taco is usually an al pastor or barbacoa, but if I were to be honest those are pretty lack-luster here. Not a ton of meat.. it's not bad but you could definitely skip it. I absolutely loveeee the Fried Chicken Taco- probably my favorite on the menu. The El Dorado Extreme is also SO good.. a classic crunchy shell beef taco that somehow feels nostalgic. As a side I got the California Ave Street Corn, aka elote or esquites and I almost licked the bowl clean. We also got a pitcher of spicy margs which was delightful.
