I came here for an eye exam and because I was having random fuzzy, white streak peripheral vision. I saw Dr. Prasad. He was so friendly, easy-going and extremely thorough!! He explained in detail what each and every test did and showed me my results. I like how he compared my results with problematic results to show me the difference. I am very disappointed with Dr. Prasad and Long Beach Family Optometry. I went for an eye exam and he failed to diagnose that I had cataracts. He sold me a $700 pair of glasses, which didn't help my vision. I went back three times, and each time his not-very-bright staff insisted I had the right prescription, even though I told them my vision was blurry. I finally insisted on seeing Dr. Prasad again. He examined me a second time (and charged me for it) and THEN noticed I had cataracts. No apologies, no offer to refund my money. This business is not really about eye care - it's a marketing company for glasses and contacts lenses. You can do better. read more

I am impressed with Dr. Prassad because he respects his elders (I am 68.10 years) and he never makes me feel rushed or a burden when I ask questions. I have been coming to Dr. Prasad for my dry eye issues and he's been a major help and really nice! I would have given this place more stars, if not for their customer service on my most recent visit. On my last visit, my mom decided to come with me and since she was there she wanted to get her eyes checked. The staff was nice... and they quickly accommodated her, but when it came down to the money, the staff was not as great at handling this issue as I would have hoped. I guess it really comes down to insurance issues... but she didn't really understand why she had to pay a certain fee and the girl explained it to her. Unfortunately, the point didn't make it pass my mom and she asked for a receipt just so she can double check. The girl thought it was a ridiculous request and made a comment to her co-worker under her breath. I was kind of shocked. My mom's request wasn't unreasonable, if someone isn't sure, they should definitely ask for something just as proof of payment. This made me very disappointed. I think it could have been handled better. read more

Hubby and I have been Dr. Prasad's patients from the beginning; in fact, he inherited us from the previous optometrist. We pretty much stayed because we're lazy...the location is near our house and convenient. My husband had been a patient of the previous optometrist since childhood and we stuck with him until his death. Did I tell you we were lazy? But, I must say that we have been very happy with Dr. Prasad and his staff. The service has been great, everyone is very personable, and I like all of Dr. Prasad's "gadgets." Several months ago I had a retinal scan done and a shadow was found in each eye. I recently had another one and no change was found. Dr. Prasad has assured me that there's nothing to worry about, but we will keep an "eye" on them for changes. If there are problems with my eyes, I'd rather know sooner than later so that action can be taken. He had to talk me into wearing reading glasses the first time, because I'm vain. The way he approached it was that I would get more wrinkles if I kept squinting the way I was doing. "Point me to the frames!" I replied. Yeah, that dude read me like a book (a book that I had to squint to read). He's a cool, friendly guy and I would recommend him to anybody who's looking for a good optometrist. Oh, and for each "like" he gets on facebook, he will make a donation to Emerson Elementary to help save their science program. What a swell guy! read more

Honestly the best optometrist I have ever had! Very nice and genuine, and clearly shows the best intention in guiding his patients. The staff was great right from the beginning, although the younger guy seemed a little rude to not only customers but his co-workers as well. Didn't seem like a pleasant person to work with. He was also supposed to help find me some frames after my exam, but clearly made it seem like it was a chore and I was a burden so I just left. Haha I'll definitely come back for Dr. Prasad though, that guy is great! read more

Love the doctor, but the gentleman that tried to assist me in getting the glasses I needed seemed to be over charging me. I went to another eye place and their price was $80 less. Love it! Everyone here is so nice! I had car troubles and they were understanding and rescheduled for me. When I showed up, it was very little paperwork and she had my insurance information all prepared for me. They read me my benefits and didn't push anything I didn't need. Doctor was very funny but also knows what hes talking about, listened to me and made me feel comfortable. They even helped me choose a pair of frames even though I was being picky and taking forever. I was in and out in like 30 minutes? Wowzers. read more

While I am happy with Dr Prassad, after a few years of not being happy with the office staff we have finally decided not to give them our business. Last straw was when I needed to re-order contacts (from Sam's as prices were much cheaper than what his office sells them for). Sam's left a message but they never returned the call. Following week I called from Sam's and at first they said they never got the call then during the conversation then said said they had checked with the doctor who said the prescription was expired. How can the doctor say that when they claim "they never got the call". Btw when Sams originally called the prescription was only a week expired and we just wanted Dr to extend until I made the appointment. Long story short I have had my eyes checked and got my contacts ELSEWHERE! And wondered why I didn't move sooner as every year had dreaded to come to Dr Prassad due to his office staff! read more

Best optometrist visit ever! I have been to 4 different optometrists in the past 10 years, and none have come close to the quality of service, knowledgeability, and timeliness as I experienced at Dr. Prasad's practice. I received two very convenient text reminders about my appointment, arrived early anticipating the usual copious amount of paperwork, and was pleasantly surprised to find I only had to complete one simple health and insurance form, and was taken back to the first of the two exam rooms right away. It was also awesome to find the office has up-to-date technology in that there is an option to have retinal photos as opposed to the dreaded dilation and retina check/drawing. It was only a bummer that insurance doesn't yet cover such an essential diagnostic tool, but I will gladly pay for this service again since it provided a much more detailed view and baseline of how my retina look at this time. Dr. Prasad and his staff were great, in no way pushy, just recommended eye drops to help with my obvious eye allergy symptoms that other doctors have failed to notice for years, and let me decide what to choose for my new pair of glasses without trying to sell me features I didn't want or need. I will most definitely return and will bring the rest of my family to Long Beach Family Optometry! read more

I am visiting my daughter here in Long Beach and recently acquired symptoms which I felt needed immediate attention. My daughter did a through online search for a reputable Optometrist in this area and found Long Beach Optometry to be among the best. I contacted the office and within a brief registration was given an appointment the next business day. I was seen promptly at 6pm, underwent a painless imaging test & seen by Dr.Prasad for initial consultation. Dr.Prasad was very through in his exam and spent time reviewing the imaging results which were taken. I was very relieved to find symptoms could await further treatment with my personal optical specialist in Olympia and Dr.Prasad provided the imaging results via email to me personally, Staff at Long Beach Optometry were cordial, courteous and most efficient in their presentation on phone as well as in office. Dr. Prasad and his team is very knowledgeable and caring. From annual eye exam to contact lenses fitting, everything was above my expectation. Also, I had an interest in a lasik surgery because I was tired of being a contact lens and glasses wearer for about 10 years and my eye sight is very bad, so he recommends NVISION to me. I was scared at first about the eye surgery but when I chose the PRK over the traditional Lasik and now I have no regret whatsoever. Now I am 20/20 again. From beginning to end a great experience - friendly staff - punctual - nice office - would highly recommend.

The only reason i gave it a star was because they had a good selection of glasses and that's it!!!! My initial visit was on april 15. Oh and i failed to mention that i have a family of five and that i learned of this office on yelp and had been seeing another dr. in the area. What a huge mistake that was. To go to this optometry office that is. Dr. was nice and informidable it seemed. But then he and his staff started pushing additional proceedures that cost more than my insurance would allow. When i was finished with my consultation is when the real meat hooks came out. Kim, one of the staff members tried to upsell me on everything, and when all was said and done, four out of five of us needed glasses, so we were told. Some $700.00 later with all the upgraded bells and whistles we left the office wondering if we had made the right choice. I even light heartedly said "Geez are you making commision"? All would be ok if I had just recieved what i ordered. Seven business days later i recieved a call informing me that only my glasses were ready(they couldn't have called when they all were in?). Just mine,hmmm. It wasn't far so my wife went and picked them up and brought them home and they were the wrong ones. Not even close to the ones i had selected. three days later they call and my wifes are ready. we get them and they (the office staff) did not order them with transition lenses, for which i was talked into and paid top dollar for. So we had them returned. Three and half weeks later i get mine back and although they are finally the correct glasses, i am unable to read anything out of my right eye. i take them back and they tell me that the dr. needs to re-examine my eyes. im thinking to myself, what in the heck did i get myself into. Then the dr. comes up with this lame excuse about the lenses being curved and thats why the prescription was not accurate. Come to find out that my prescription did not need to be changed after all and this place is a sham. i will be contacting the better business bureau about this office. There is a big difference with dropping the ball and bad business. five weeks later we have everything we ordered. But did we really need them? Be very cautious of this place if after reading this you still want to try them out!!! Well if it's any concellation, I recieved a $5.00 gift card to the Coffee Bean that's next door. In fact when i went to order a tea EVERY time I visted the eye doctor, they seemed to be more organized and efficient than the doctors office. Sad but true. read more

This place is such a scam. Do not go here unless you want to be ripped off and have your time wasted. The retinal OptiScan that Dr. Prasad heavily promotes is a joke. It only looks at your central retina. The peripheral retina is where most retinal detachments occur and the only way you'll see those is with actual dilation and an optometrist who can actually evaluate your retina. This one is just finding another way to take your $. The staff is so rude and unaccommodating as well. When I tried picking up my glasses and made sure I was there 30 minutes before they closed (which was difficult as I had to drive far from work in traffic) the place was already closed! They just decided to close early that day because they felt like it. When I told them what happened they became all defensive and said I should have called first. Ridiculous! I have to call ahead to pick up my glasses during their normal posted store hours!? Their prices for their glasses are absurd as well. Their selection of frames is crap. I am very unhappy with the glasses I had made there, they look cheap and were poorly made. The final straw came when I went to pick up my contacts. I again came during their normal posted hours (around 2 pm) and the door was locked! I knocked, nothing. I could even see the staff inside, yet no one came to the door. When I called to complain, they said they were on their lunch hour. Unbelievable! This place is terrible! read more
