Well, I went to Long John Silver's.
    Steven M.

I'm not necessarily proud of the fact that I'm writing a review for Long John Silver's but I can safely say this was probably the last time ill ever visit one. I visited this location last weekend while visiting Connecticut and ended up pulling in because I remember enjoying it when I was younger. Located pretty much inside of a Taco Bell, I went through the drive through and the employee was friendly enough. I ordered the fish and chicken combo which is served with French fries and hush puppies. The French fries were fairly standard although I do enjoy Long John Silver's fries for what they are. The chicken was alright but the fish was way too hard and required some real work just to bite through. The hush puppies were awful and were rock hard, so no good okay those. Overall, Long John Silver's is a dying chain in 2019 and overcooked food and a bland experience are part of that reason. Although the food was edible and not terrible, I don't see myself returning to this chain in the future.

The fish was overcooked and tough, and the waffle fries were far too salty. The meal was honestly inedible. I would never go there again.

Long John Silvers is closed here. Only open as a Taco Bell. Good thing since they frequently got the orders incorrect.

Friendly staff, well staffed (which is not something you see too often nowadays). I love the more modern feel, and of course the faint Frankie statue. The food was amazing, restaurant was clean, plenty of seating. My boyfriend got a hot dog with peppers and onions with steak fries. I got a grilled cheese and curly fries(same as I used to get a child lol, I was feeling nostalgic) He also got a soda and I got a water, all of this for around $22-23 About the same price (maybe a few dollars more) if we had gone to a regular fast food chain, but def worth the extra money. Plus I always love supporting a local business. It was also great to see they even had some of the old arcade games to play for free, I wanted to play but didn't, because all I'm thinking of is people eating with their hands and then touching the controls with unclean hands, maybe it's just the post covid era Only recommendation I have would be to have a hand sanitizer near the game. Such an amazing place!

For whatever reason, the Boneless BBQ Baby Back Rib sandwich looked good in the photo and sounded really good to me. Avoid it. At all costs. The "meat" was so dry and just not good at all. No bbq sauce on the sandwich. So much fat on the meat as well. The only redeeming quality of the sandwich was that the pickles were good. Ate two bites of the sandwich and even that was too much. Food poisoning the next day. The West Coast fries were....interesting. I'm not sure if it was the "secret sauce" but the fries tasted sour. Without all the stuff on the fries they were fine. Unfortunately however ours were absolutely covered in the toppings and not in a good way. He had a beer to drink, which tasted fine. We ordered on the little kiosk so an employee had to come over and enter a code to show we're over 21. The problem with that is that there were many 3 or 4 employees all already working the grills/fryers and one of them had to step away to help us. They should have a cashier to help! Based off this initial experience, I do not see myself going back. Definitely not to this location.

I got the disco fries as an appetizer and they were a delicious combo of gravy cheese and seasoning. You could also tell by the bite and the shape that they were made fresh which is also a big plus. I got the hungry bull burger and they were accommodating with substituting the horseradish crema for the house sauce. You would think double meat might be a bit much but it works well and the onion straws really make it shine. Finally I got the strawberry milkshake which was probably better than any shake shack milkshake I've had! The restaurant itself is also very eco-conscious by participating in newport biodiesel, so its great to know that not only are you getting a good meal but the restaurant you are supporting is also helping the people of the connecticut.

This place was well reviewed, so we decided to make this the spot this time around. Ordering was done up front, but there were tables to sit at. Missus ordered while I took photos, and the food came out relatively quickly. Took pics and dug in. Sweet potato fries were the highlight. Hand cut, fried and seasoned. With ranch, they were really good. The burger and hot god were good in terms of quality and quantity. The condiments were a little overpowering though, ended up taking over a lot of the dish and really muddled the meat. The meat itself was lightly seasoned, relying on the condiments to bring the flavor. Not bad, but all elements should bring their own identity and add to a meal. The burger felt absent, and although flavorful was lacking that extra bit of salt or fat to make it truly shine. It's not bad at all, just lacking. Everything else was good, the price easily reasonable for the quality. It was just missing those finishing touches to be truly great

Honestly, after reading the reviews, I wasn't too confident I would even be able to eke on in for dinner, but my God was I able to get in, and thank the LORD I was able to find a parking spot with such a full lot of cars! What started as a solo trip to J Timothy's became a welcome table event when fellow Yelper Angie showed up with her husband and invited me over to their table. I'm SO glad we were able to have that happen! It became one of the best post-event dinners I've had yet. It did take a bit of time to decide between the three of us, but we eventually split our checks, with me taking care of my order and Angie taking care of the rest. We had Kate as a waitress, and might I say, she was not only nice and efficient, but she was very knowledgeable of the menu and very helpful and accommodating. I immediately requested a take-out box and she delivered just like that. She was even knowledgeable on what foods and such were made in-house and what wasn't, which is honestly very impressive! Also note, we all got to have a taste of everything that came in tonight, so we got lots of food to get to! We did have the wings for our appetizers. I did the 10-wing Dirt Style Honey BBQ Gold for mine, and they got I wanna say 20(?) Buffalo wings. They were cooked to perfection, and I was able to twist the bones off the flats. Both flavors were good, but even though it could possibly be my bias talking, I did prefer my flavor of wings. I will say the Buffalo had that signature spice level there, but it didn't overpower the wing, which is awesome! Oh, and there were also the potato skins which was rated perfectly, and that tasted really good as well. For the entrees, this is why I immediately requested the box. My order was the full rack of ribs. Angie got the chicken pot pie. Usually, I don't eat pot pies, but the one Angie ordered was honestly very good. Flaky, buttery crust top, and savory filling or chicken, potatoes, peas, etc. As for my ribs, whenever I tried to cut them, all the meat kept falling off the bone! That's how you know it was cooked properly! And dear God were these ribs were delicious, succulent, and delicious! Did I mention they were delicious? The BBQ sauce was a symphony of bliss that helped make each bite of rib taste like I went to Cloud Nine! The coleslaw it came with was good, but it's not something I would say can compete with the South. But good all the same. Drinks were great too. I got the Dragon Fruit Martini(?), and that was sweet and relaxing to have after a long summer and a long drive to Plainville. Oh, and we also got dessert! Again we picked different things: Angie ordered the "Not Fried Chicken" while I went with the Key Lime Pie. Wherever these guys get their key lime pie from, keep them coming and let me know so I can get some more myself! The raspberry sauce was a great choice for accompaniment and complimented the pie nicely. And the slice was divine! The Not Fried Chicken is a very innovative idea, and it tasted good as well. I can see now why this place gets so much love. It's insane how good this place is in just about every aspect! The sink did take a bit to learn, but that was about my only criticism, other than that this place easily gets 5 stars from me, and I am so glad to have had this dinner with Angie and meet her husband. #KeepYelping

The Gold BBQ wings were my favorite--crispy, sticky, and packed with flavor. They had the perfect balance of sweet, smoky, and tangy without being overpowering. The Buffalo wings were excellent too, with a classic sauce that had just the right amount of heat and a great buttery finish. The wings came out crispy even after being sauced, which is harder to do than most places make it look. Service was friendly, the atmosphere felt like a classic neighborhood tavern, and you can tell they've been doing this for a long time. If you're anywhere near Plainville and like wings, this place is definitely worth the stop. I'll be thinking about those Gold BBQ wings for a while.
