Mickey's hit the spot for our lobster quest. It was right off a main road, had the required clean restroom facilities we sought, and had lots of specials going on, which would have us becoming regulars if we lived nearby. We tried several variations of specialties, the lobster roll being my fav. The lobster salad was good, but of course missing out on the infamous sweet buttered roll itself. The fries were good and hot, and the clam chowder was tasty. Mark Mickeys on your GPS if traveling by.

I've eaten here in the past, so the rating I'm giving is going to be a cumulative score of those 2 visits. In the past, my wife and I ordered their chicken and chips. The portion was a good size, but it was just so under-seasoned. I don't need a restaurant to drown my food in a waterfall of salt, but I distinctly remember being underwhelmed. I wondered if they even salted their food. I understand it if this was done on purpose (for those watching their sodium intake) but I believe you have to judge what you're given - not what I could turn their food into by seasoning it myself. Unfortunately that feeling did not change as I ordered their crab roll this afternoon. I've been watching far too many food shows lately and I got the hankering for some seafood. You know how you eat with your eyes? Take a look at the picture I posted and tell me you're salivating at your screen. It tasted fine, but if you're going to pay $20 just for a sandwich, it better be more than fine. I may amend this review later on should I give them another try - looking for some lobster roll in particular - but right now, I'm not too excited that I work just 2 minutes away from here.

Its a very old fashioned restaurant. I took out dinner from here. I loved their tartar sauce the most. Spicy shrimp sandwich tasted good. Shrimp poboy was their special of the day. It was ok. Crab bisque was not good. Prices seemed ok.

Since 1953! Well, damn! That's awesome! That means they are definitely doing something right here. Mickey's specializes in the finest quality seafood including hot or cold lobster rolls,  crab rolls, thick and creamy New England clam chowder, crab bisque, jumbo shrimp, scallops and clams. My first time here and it was so delicious. They have a Fish Sandwich special for $6.99 every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday until they close at 6 PM. They do close early, but definitely try to get there beforehand because it is worth it. I got the spicy version for a little extra nd added cheese to it. Oh, it was so good! It came with lettuce, tomato and mayo. I also added white onion. It was a really thick and satisfying sandwich. What a deal at that price too! I ordered a side of their think onion rings- fun as well. My friend ordered the Lobster Grilled Cheese. It looked small to me compared to the huge sandwich I got, but she really enjoyed it. She said it was very meaty. Next time, I am going to try the Cape Cod Style Fish Sandwich and their seasoned fries. I can not wait to go back next week again. Service was fast and friendly. The inside is a light blue color. Definitely an old school feel. You know there have been many smiles here enjoying their fish sandwiches!

New England Clam Chowder - one of the better ones I've tried

Over this past summer I visited 9 different places in Connecticut to find the best CT Lobster Roll (hot/buttered). 3 of those places were on the CT shoreline and the remaining 6 in the greater Hartford/Central CT area so they all ultimately ended up with two ratings on my final list. Mickeys has been around for 70 years and is another East Hartford icon, starting as a roadside shack serving burgers and hot dogs before becoming Mickey's Drive-In and still sits the the original building that replaced the shack. It's another one of those places I've been too many times to remember but I've been going there my whole life. Long gone are the days of the 'drive-in' and the car shows they used to host, since the highway access has changed they don't get as much traffic as they used to but they still do a decent amount of business thanks to the quality of the food and service. They are very well known in the local area and they have a devoted following of locals (and not-so-locals) that keep coming back. For the lobster roll they landed near the middle of the list. #6 of the 9 I visited in the state and #4 of the 6 I visited in the Hartford/Central CT area. Nothing at all wrong with the taste or quality of the rolls and they're right in the middle of the price range but the amount you get is on the smaller side, averaging only 2 1/2 oz of meat on a roughly 2oz roll there are better places to get lobster rolls in central CT. They run a little higher than market price for some seafood items so while some are a little pricey, some are a great value. So why the 5 stars? It's everything else they do. From the basic breakfast sandwiches to the fish sandwiches, burgers, fries and house-made onion rings (more like straws than rings). They have a nice variety of seafood and specials daily. The crab bisque comes off as a bit thin and spicy but the clam chowder is one of the better ones I've tried. Having eaten here all my life I think I've tried just about everything they have to offer. There are no tables indoors, just a u-shaped counter surrounding the 'open' kitchen in the middle with some stools if you'd like to eat it there and several outdoor seats and tables if the weather is good. From the fish and chips to the stuffed clams (stuffies), breakfast to burgers, hot dogs to haddock they serve good, quality food . The pricing can be higher for some of the items but they are a smaller, one-location restaurant so I can understand the need to charge a bit more. Other than that this is one of my favorite hometown haunts to stop for lunch any day of the week (except Sundays when they're closed). Five stars!

Oh my G-d, the lobster rolls. And the onion rings-- paper thin and absolutely delicious. Unassuming-looking place, but worth finding.

Fresh seafood in a no frills environment with lots of repeat patrons. There's no such thing as a bad meal here. It'll likely be fried!

I'm back! The restaurant is located on 389 Main St. in East Hartford, CT. It's been a few months…read moresince I was last here (December) which is a crime. Carmine's is a fresh from scratch kitchen that is ALWAYS open. Their appetizers, pastas, entrees and desserts combine old-world traditional Italian flavor with a modern flair for presentation, and the freshest ingredients around. Menu staples like rigatoni bolognese, fettuccine carbonara and chicken Milanese are coupled with unique recipes like chicken ala vodka and toasted almond cake. They've staffed the kitchen with a dream team of chefs and you can tell instantly! They also do parties, catering and online ordering/delivery. The restaurant is well known for its live music. There is never a cover and parking is always free. This place and produces absolutely amazing food and drinks. I have noticed quite a few menu changes. The Happy Hour menu has expanded. It's also no longer all day Monday. The main menu no longer has prices on featured drinks (although that's the tre d these days). Note that the Bar Bites menu is available open to close! The Main Menu looks the same although there is a new Wine List (that's a first here). The music is very pleasant and the right volume level. It's always a big cool in here too. For my first drink, I'm having a Pratt N Whiskey. This is made with Woodford Reserve Bourbon, sweet vermouth, red wine and sour mix. It's definitely an unusual drink. It's not garnished, but it tastes great. The wine sticks out for sure. It's clearly a shaken drink not often found with a whiskey component except for maybe Whiskey Sours. For my first item, I'm having the House Salad made with spring mix, basil, tomatoes, julienned (thinly sliced) carrots, cucumbers and house red wine vinaigrette dressing. This is a big portion! I love this dressing! This tastes great! For my next item, I'm trying the Carmine's Secret Tenderloins. These are off of Carmine's "Secret Menu." They are pan seared, caramelized chicken tenderloins, made with wine, olive oil, cracked black pepper (dried black peppercorns broken into coarse, uneven pieces), kosher salt (a coarse, flaky salt named for its use in the Jewish koshering process of drawing blood from meat), shredded Parmesan and a very special "secret sauce." I'm curious as to what this sauce tastes like. Wow! Nice presentation! These are good! I love that sauce! There's a good crowd in here (20 people). Only one worker (bartender and server). She's damn good at what she does! For my next drink, I'm having a Connecticut Cosmo. This is made with Litchfield Vodka, Wild Moon Cranberry, Triple Sec and lime juice. This vodka is the Gold Medal Winner 2018 & 2019 at the New York International Spirits Competition. Silver Medal Winner at the 2017 San Francisco World Spirits Competition! Our Gluten-Free Batchers' Vodka is distilled from luscious corn grown during the beautiful summer months in Somers, CT. We distill 4 ¾ times and use a gravity-fed charcoal filter that takes 12 hours to filter 100 gallons. The longer the vodka sits on the charcoal, the more impurities are removed, which creates an incredibly smooth taste. Bottled at 80 proof. It is impeccably clean, slightly sweet, velvety smooth mouthfeel and sweet buttery overtones. It's smooth with a warm finish with subtle notes of sweet ripe corn at the end. I actually sat down next to the owner of the Distillery at a wine pairing dinner at Flemings in West Hartford about 7-8 years ago. This looks nice! Wow! This has great flavor! For my next item, I'm having the Rigatoni Matinara. Rigatoni is a large, tube-shaped pasta with ridges on the outside and straight-cut ends. Marinara sauce is a tomato sauce usually made with tomatoes, garlic, herbs, and onions. I don't eat pasta all that often. This will serve as my appetizer before I hit the main course. This is a BIG portion! It is very good! For my entree I'm having the Pan Seared Salmon which is "hand cut" salmon with zesty orange glaze served over mashed potatoes with seasonal vegetables (broccoli). Add LOTS of crushed red pepper. Nod that's "LOTS." This is spicy! My kinda spicy! The plate is nice and hot! I like the presentation. This tastes great! What a great meal here!
