One of those restaurants I've been eating at for years and still crave from time to time. Their handmade xiao long bao is always my must-order--freshly wrapped, juicy, and best eaten while hot. The crab soup dumpling is also so satisfying, especially drinking the broth with a straw first. I also recommend the Liangxi crispy eel and Wuxi ribs if you like the slightly sweet, rich flavors of Jiangnan cuisine. My family lives in Rowland Heights, where it is literally Chinese food Heaven, so when my sister decided to come here to celebrate my nephew's birthday, I was a bit surprised they would go all the way to Baldwin Park to have dumplings. My mom is VERY picky so I drove here with really high expectations of their food. "This place must have REALLY juicy dumplings!" I thought to myself on the way here. I actually got lost coming here from Monrovia and ended up driving around in circles before pulling into a plaza that I typically would not stop to. A dumpling restaurant in a small plaza in the middle of Baldwin Park just seemed so out of place. I felt awkward being there but I thought to myself "The food must be SO good!". The restaurant itself is a decent size, with about 14 tables, with a spacious open kitchen area for them to make dumplings. The decor is outdated but cleanliness was an 8/10. Lots of different food selections on their menu with average pricing. They do serve beer so that is a huge plus. We had a party of 10 so we ordered lots of different food to try. My mom raved about every item we had (surprisingly, she is a huge fan of this restaurant), but I think every single dish was too salty for my taste. My favorite was the spicy fish and my least favorite was their boiled dumplings. The bill with tips came out to just a tad bit under $300, which isn't bad at all, but I don't think I would drive all the way to Baldwin Park for dumplings when I live so close to Arcadia and in Walnut and Rowland Heights daily. This place is such a gem! Definitely try their soup ciao long bao. The skins are paper-thin but somehow hold in a massive pool of rich, perfectly balanced soup without breaking. They have both sweet and savory options. The sweet ones completely blew me away. My husband and I couldn't stop eating them. For the savory dishes, the kitchen definitely leans a bit heavier on the salt. The Mapo Tofu isn't really that numb-tingling, spicy Sichuan style, and there isn't a ton of minced pork, so it's a bit more of a simple, comforting dish. The Fish-Flavored Shredded Pork had an awesome balance of sweet and garlicky notes, and I loved that it came with so many veggies, even if it was a little on the saltier side. To round it all out, the pastries were a total joy. The potstickers had that flawless, crunchy golden-brown bottom you always hope for. But the sleeper hit was definitely the red bean sesame pastry. My family had just finished attending our son's graduation from his Technical Trade School in Rancho Cucamonga and I thought since we were in the area, it was road trip time to Baldwin Park for a celebratory lunch. The parking lot for Long Xing Ji Juicy Dumpling is kinda compact and shares its spaces with many other businesses in this small strip mall. We entered the restaurant a few minutes after 12 P.M. It was surprisingly not filled up with many diner yet. Several more patrons came in shortly after we were seated and had placed our order. A young man gretted my family and brought us to a table and asked what type of beverages we would like. Soon 4 12 oz. cans of Coke ($2.20 each) arrived at our table. I also ordered a pot of hot tea which was free. We were given one laminated menu to look at. It was explained to us that to order, we needed to scan a QR code on the table using a cell phone, to place our order. Once we selected our menu items, it was easy and hassle free to order from our phone. The only thing you cannot do is pay on the phone. Your server will hand you your bill when you are ready to pay at the end of your meal. Our order: Shredded Bean Curd w/Cilantro ($9.99); Juicy Pork Dumplings (XLB's w/Unsweet Filling)/Eight Pieces for $12.99 (we doubled this item ($25.98); Juicy Pork & Crab Bun (Giant XLB) for $8.99; Crispy Onion Pancake ($7.99); Beef Rolls ($12.99); Pan Fried Pork Pot Stickers (Eight Pieces for $12.99); House Golden Crispy Cake (Four Pieces for $12.99); A Choy ($15.99) Our wait was under five minutes before our dishes began to fly out of the hardworking kitchen. First to arrive was the veggie dish, A Choy. Delicious and crunchy with a nice amount of garlic in the saucing. Second course arriving was the cold Bean Curd w/Cilantro. Shreds of firm tofu lightly tossed with the right amount of Cilantro and a sesame based dressing. This was a new dish for me and the wife (our sons passed on trying) and we really liked it. In quick succession came the Juicy Pork Dumplings-Unsweet, the Juicy Pork & Crab Bun, Pan Fried Pork Pot Stickers, Beef Rolls and the House Golden Crispy cakes. The Unsweet Pork XLB's were really good. The dough used to encapsulate the brioth and filling was delicate and thin, yet one could pick it up from the steaming pan without it sticking and breaking apart before you can appreciate it. Is it the best we have ever had....No, but I would rate these a strong 7.5 out of 10. I wish their condiments you you use when eating XLB's were a bit stronger and or in a much more generous portion. They are really stingy with the ginger, and the black vinegar seemed watered down in flavor and strength. The giant Pork & Crab Bun (XLB) was something I have never had before. I gently poked the dumpling with a provided straw and offered my wife and two sons a chance to try it. Only my mini me (youngest son) wanted to try though he is not a seafood fan. He tried but not his cup of tea. I sucked up the broth which was still piping hot several minutes after it was delivered to our table. I like it, it was mild in the crab roe flavor but I enjoyed the flavor profile. I decied to attempt (based on other Yelper's suggestions) to remove the dumpling for the steaming pan to eat. I was quite surprised to see that the dumpling consisted entirely of broth with no solid filling: you can see the mess I made on my plate. It The wrapper again was quite thin and I devoured both the broth and wrapper with gusto. The Crispy onion pancake was not the best we have ever had: not a lot of green onions in it. The beef rolls were prety good. A generous amount of both deli beef wand cilantro. It could've used a bit more Hoisin sauce though. The Pan Fried Pork Pot Stickers were decent. Again, Not the best but not the worst. I tried using the chili oil that is in each table. It was very mild in both flavor and heat level. Lastly, the House Golden Crispy Cake. It read well on the menu description. Basically using the same dough as what fried sesame balls (Jian Dui) are made with but filled instead with a pork filling. Not sure what I was expecting (based on Jian Dui texture and mouth feel) but all four of us were very fond of these. They took several minutes to cool as the filling was piping hot! They looked so appetizing until you take a bite of the dough wrapper. I'm trying no to be mean spritied, but the dough for being deep fried was slimy and squishy when one begins chewing. I am used to Jian Dui having some resistance and chewiness to it's dough but this was way different. The filling also caught me off guard. The pork filling was really sweet. I really wish I could like this dish but not sure if what we experienced is what they are suppose to be like or not. This place is FIRE As far as I know, this is the ONLY place that makes the giant soup dumpling. You heard me right. THE as in ONE soup dumpling! Check out the pics! It's one huge dumpling filled with a piping hot crab soup. The technique told to me is to use the straw to suck off any soup on the top, then carefully poke the straw in then drink up the soup inside. I thought that the dumpling wouldn't be edible, but I was wrong! You can eat the whole thing, and it's a delicious crab dumpling! Soup dumplings aside, there were so many options on foods to eat and everything we had was scrumptious! The crispy rice that came with the salt and pepper shrimp were fire! Turns out they didn't disappear they just moved, and thankfully not too far from our hometown area. They are now located in Covina. Walking in felt like finding an old favorite all over again. The service is still just as great as we remembered...friendly, quick, and welcoming. And the food? Still delivering those huge, satisfying portions with barely any wait time. We were so happy to see that the quality and flavors we loved are still there, and it definitely brought back all the reasons we kept coming back before. This wildly popular place is the 2nd location. According to the owner, it's been here for about a 1/2 year already. They are known for the large soup buns that you need a straw to drink the broth. On a Saturday around 11:30, they were near capacity. Our party of 8 arrived and took the last tables. Then the line started. I was facing the kitchen area and it looked like every dish that came out, they were trying to figure out which table it belongs to. After a while of no Jen coming by, I had to go there and tell them to bring us water, and to take our order. #59, Wu Xi style spare ribs. Many tables ordered it but it looks better than it tastes. They're not bad, but felt rushed. The flavor was mild, and meat was tender but no wow factor. 3/5 Deep fried eel is something new. I remember only dining in once at their San Gabriel location with co-workers and picking up a dinner to-go order before most of the second floor businesses were kicked out of that plaza, so imagine my surprise and delight to find Long Xing Ji open in another location, even closer to me this time! We ordered the juicy pork and crab bun ($8.99 - basically the super large singular juicy dumpling), juicy pork dumplings ($10.99 - the regular sized ones, comes with 8 pieces), crispy onion pancake ($6.99), a choy ($13.99), and mapo tofu ($11.99). Loved the dumplings, both regular sized and jumbo. The dumpling skin was as thin as Ding Tai Fung and not doughy at all. Soup inside the dumpling was light and refreshing, not full of oily sauces. There was incredibly a lot of crab filling in the super large dumpling! Their crispy onion pancake was made just the way I like it -- the dough wasn't thick, oil from the frying was light, and the right balance of green onions for flavor. Lots of garlic with the a choy (score for me) and lots of numbing mala spice with the mapo tofu. Make sure to order some steamed rice to go with the mapo tofu! The string beans were very salty. The dumplings were good and generously sized, and the crab dumpling was very flavorful, though also on the salty side. I can't remember the keyword I used to find Long Xing Ji Juicy Dumpling; it's slightly out of my typical SGV range (Baldwin Park), but I saw a pic of that ginormous Juicy Pork & Crab Bun & had to come try their XLBs! The restaurant is located in Gateway Center on the center of the east side. While parking is plentiful, it can get business during lunch & dinner rushes due to other restaurants in the plaza. The parking is a bit awkward by LXJJD when I had to turn the corner for an open space, it was tight even though it's runs both ways but feels like it's 1-way. Upon entering, we weren't welcomed right away because they were that busy; there's no kiosk or wait list for check-in. Luckily, there's only 1 family ahead & we were accounted for right after the fam was led to a table. The dining room is functional & clean with decent spacing in the pathway so that you're not bumping into others. Men's & women's restrooms are located in the back on the right, just behind the expedite counter. There was a laminated menu on the table, & the place setting was on an place met filled with advertisements. Eh... I would prefer a blank, white one. Maybe they generate income from this? The server spoke Mandarin so quickly I barely caught it; he was trying to tell me to use the QR code (bottom left corner of table) to place our order. I also brought my own loose tea & requested a pot of hot water, though the server misunderstood/misheard & brought over one with a bagged tea (though I wasn't surcharged for tea) & I had to repeat myself. Even without my personal tea, tea is inclusive so there's no pot or per person surcharge. I already listed what I wanted to try & waited to see what my brother's picks were; I had to guide him away from Ma Po Tofu to Fish Fillet with Tofu in Chili Sauce, with fish instead of pork. ;-) He wanted more dumplings so I had to scratch off Wuxi Style Spareribs. I liked that their menu included some pics, influencing some of our picks. Food came fast... Crispy Onion Pancake, A Choy, then XLBs! We were given 5 straws for the Juicy Pork & Crab Bun, though we could use just 2 for me (to share with my hubby) & my brother. The "soup" was delish, lots of umami flavor, but challenging to eat directly from the steamer, losing the soup if the wrapper doesn't remain intact. I tried to lift the bun from the steamer onto the plate but still lost a little soup because I already poked a hole. Next time transfer first, then drink/eat. Long Xing Ji Juicy Dumpling truly lives up to its name; their dumplings are juicy! I especially love the skin... a perfect delicate balance of thinness, tenderness/good mouthfeel, & elasticity even when cool! Way better than DTF IMO; they used to be this way in its heyday 2 decades ago. Wrapper:filling ratio is even, so that you're not wondering where's the protein. I like the Fish Dumplings, but they were a little bland. The pancake was tasty; could use a little more green onions. I love A Choy when I first learned of it 2 decades ago; very few restaurants serve this fav veggie. It's mildly sweet with a subtle earthy flavor, reminds me of romaine; paired well as a garlic stir-fry = wok hei (鑊氣). I like the Beef Roll Pancake was a tasty mix of sweet & savory; uneven ratio of wrapper:filling, could use a little more beef than the sliver in mine. And the pancake had better flavor than the standalone one. The Vegetable with Rice Cake was ok; it had pork slivers but could use some aromatics (ginger, star anise), light &/or dark soy, & more veggies like cabbage, mung bean sprouts, etc. for flavor & texture. Fish Fillet with Tofu in Chili Sauce was bomb! So glad that I swapped out Ma Po Tofu; the fish was tender & sweet, & the soft tofu paired well with the chili kick! I used the leftovers & poured over noods for a yummy next day lunch. Yang Zhou Fried Rice was a typical fried rice; however, LXJJD hit the 鑊氣 mark with distinct, fluffy grains & infused flavors with firm diced veggies & flavorful cured ham. So this restaurant was once located in San Gabriel, and was closed by the strip mall management because they wanted renovate and charge larger rent fees. Well, we are soon glad they relocated to Baldwin Park. The chef is the same and the food tastes just as good as it was before. We got our normal Pork Dumplings, stir fried green beans, and pork belly fried rice. We also got a the House Beef Shank which was refreshingly served cold. We thought it was a hot dish, but it was pretty good. We talked to the owners and staff about missing coming there because they moved, but are back to our favorite Chinese restaurant. Really happy to have this new spot in Baldwin Park, it's a great addition to the area and seems very popular. I came at noon on a Friday and they were busy for lunch. Service was very fast, everything was correct even my "cilantro on the side only" request which tends to get messed up often. Everything was tasty, though I did feel a few dishes were under seasoned. I added a little soy sauce and vinegar to several things including the sesame noodles and spicy wonton, they just needed more salt in my opinion. My husband LOVED the spicy wontons. The pork xiaolongbao was excellent, so juicy and only 1 of the 8 ripped on me. I would come back solely for the xlb. The ribs were massive and tender, would definitely recommend those. Amazing spot for Baldwin Park! I'm a huge fan of Mama Lu's so sometimes I just stick with what I like. One of my friends posted a few of their photos and I had to come and try! Love that they are a small shop and you can see that they care about their food quality and how it tastes. They give you a dry eraser market and you can mark on the menu what you want. Sort of smart if there is a language barrier and you can't understand each other. Food came out fairly quickly during lunch time. Service staff were friendly and restaurant was clean. Finally visited Long Xing Ji's new Baldwin Park location, and it definitely lived up to the hype! The crab soup dumplings were the highlight--don't forget to sip the rich crab broth with a straw before taking a bite. They were packed with real crab and so flavorful. We also loved the pork soup dumplings, the crispy red bean pastry, and the Wuxi pork ribs, which were tender, slightly sweet, and a huge portion. The osmanthus sweet rice balls were a perfect dessert, and the crab tofu was silky and great for sharing with kids or older family members. The staff was friendly, service was quick, there's plenty of parking, and the restaurant filled up fast after we arrived around 5 PM. We'll definitely be back! read more

This restaurant has my favorite xiaolongbao! The taste is beyond words. Every dish is delicious! You'll fall in love after just one visit. This time I ordered their signature dishes, and they were all 5-star. "Wuxi Pork Ribs" and "Liangxi Crispy Eel" are incredible. They're all sweet, good choices for kids. It is rare to find a Jiangsu restaurant in the U.S. such as this restaurant. The interior provides transparency to observe the making of xiaolongbao. The menu represents authentic Jiangsu/Zhejiang dish such as xiaolongbao, noodle soup with pork rib. I ordered a few classics and am generally satisfied with the flavor. Overall, the flavor is leaning towards the sweet side, which although understandably is the regional characteristic, could be dealt with more delicacy for improved balanced. I was sad when the original restaurant moved to Puente/Baldwin Hills. This spot is a little farther to drive since they left Alhambra but man, the XLB is SO worth it. More than that, the fried eel skin appetizer is by far my MOST favorite item on the menu. I haven't seen it anywhere else and until I do, this is my go to spot.
