Stopped in the other night for dinner and felt that the food was different than in the past. Not sure if there's a new chef, but there seemed to be a lack of seasoning/flavor. The service was still good, but I would have to say that the food was only average at best. We ordered most of our usuals: the Spicy Wontons (a little bland, not very spicy), House Special Fried Rice (with Chicken, Beef, and Shrimp) which also seemed a little bland, Spicy Filet Mignon (best of what we ordered), and the Kung Pao Chicken, which was not good at all. Apparently, they offer crunchy and non-crunchy, but there was hardly any chicken, and it was so small that it really seemed like all we got was the crispy coating. Plus, it was a little sweet and not at all spicy, which is what I would expect from Kung Pao. The portions are always good sized, but we were very disappointed with the taste. Been here multiple times but the last time I went here 7-8yrs ago and taste different. Fried scallops and the filet mignon was my favorite here. However, recently ordered to go here because I was craving for fried fish with garlic and anything that's has fried garlic; I would say the taste is not the same. The fried garlic they put here before is not the same kinda disappointing now. Pork chop with garlic is not as tasty as before not that salty and doesn't have that much garlic. Ordered fried fish with garlic but I don't think they put garlic they just put a lot of garlic seasoning with five spice, there's bits of garlic but it doesn't taste garlic. I will say the food is good but they are on the salty side. I dont think the owners have anyone eles working there because we came in and it was busy but we were rushed to get out of the restaurant. Our plates all came at different times and not together. I was told they are moving so idk if I may follow. The options are many! But if you are trying to sit down and have a meal I DO NOT RECOMMEND ITS BAD SERVICE. We had to keep asking for things, never got a refil for the whole table just the ones that we're close the the walk way. If they make a smelly food you are trapped inside until they are done cooking. if i could give this place more than 5 stars i definitely would! Wow this place is amazing, not just with the food but with the service. The ambiance is very calm, very nostalgic and cozy. The lady at the front, Rebecca, was very sweet kind and approachable. She was very attentive, always making sure our water was full. Something that really stood out is that she literally packed out leftovers! That is something that you usually only see at fancy steakhouses, and the fact that she did that for us made our experience that much more special. As for the food, i was in awe the whole time. We ordered the House Special Filet Mignon, garlic noodles, green onion pancake, and fried shrimp in honey sauce. For the filet mignon, it was SO good, it was super delicious, tender and all in all absolutely amazing. I would definitely recommend that dish. The garlic noodles paired very nicely with the steak bites, and i liked that they weren't oily. Green onion pancake was tasty as well, definitely would get all these items again. The amount served is tremendously large. It easily feeds multiple people. My family and I happily enjoyed our meal. (Quick Note - Lobster Prices Before Tax: Four Pounds cost $116... Five Pounds cost $145... Six Pounds cost $174... Seven Pounds cost $203... Eight Pounds cost $232) On Sunday (around 1PM), I ordered the House Special Lobster To-Go. The staff member on the phone spoke terse, business-like English. She listed a couple lobster weights, and I selected the "five pound - medium size." Then, she asked for "spice levels," but I personally don't think it matters. I'd chosen spicy, but it was not spicy at all. The House Special Lobster was ready in 15 minutes. Fast!! Lobster & Steak Express (West Covina) is located near the busy Haven City Market Plaza. Unfortunately, Sunday (near 1:20PM) is horrifically busy. The entire parking lot was ridiculously crowded. Thankfully, after 10 minutes, I found a parking spot. Lobster & Steak Express (West Covina) is filled with customers. The interior is extremely plain and clunky, but it's relatively clean. The ambiance is nonexistent, but it's a functional place with good prices. As mentioned prior, my family and I enjoyed the House Special Lobster. The amount of lobster that's packed is very fresh, generous, and well-cooked. And all its shells are sliced open, so it's very easy to eat. The House Special Lobster sits on chow mein; these thin noodles are bouncy with little flavor. Overall, I enjoyed Lobster & Steak Express (West Covina). Although the staff is terse and and the ambiance is plain, the lobster is bountiful and juicy. This location is popular for good reason. Anyways, we came here on a Saturday evening before the dinner rush and they had our order ready in less than 15 minutes when we walked in to order. They have the market prices for the lobster written down on a piece of paper next to the menu. Staff was efficient and friendly. Altogether for some shrimp fried rice and a whole house special lobster (the noodles were complimentary with the order of lobster), it was $174. It was enough to feed 5 people with some leftovers and it was meant for my grandpa's birthday and he really liked it. Lobster was very meaty and seasoned deliciously. I usually hate lobster because many times it's much too dry, but this was nice and moist. Fried rice was pretty good, not too greasy either and came with a good amount of shrimp, scrambled egg, and chicken. Really wished there was a bit more noodles because, although quite greasy in contrast, the flavor was soaked with the same seasoning as the lobster so it was great. The place was clean and had some pictures of the food on the walls so you have an idea of what your ordering. We ordered the house special steak, spicy honey shrimp, garlic noodles, and green onion pancake. Everything was freshly made on the wok and were good portions. Garlic noodles were spot on! Not oily like other places. Shrimp was crispy and tasty. The house special steak was good and had some veggies mixed in for a variety of texture, super tender as well. The green onion pancake was excellent as well, I really enjoyed dipping it into the steak sauce. The lady taking orders was also seating people and bringing out the food, and even then with all that on her plate she kept checking in on us! I've had this place bookmarked for awhile now. I was curious how it compares to New Port Seafood and Boston Lobster. For the House Style Lobster I thought it was good and we enjoyed the bed Garlic Noodles that the Lobster came with. If I had to choose I think I prefer Boston Lobster'a House Style Lobster. The thing about the House Style is they use a lot of strong flavors and sometimes you can't taste the Lobster as if you ordered it with Ginger and Scallion Style but here it did not overpower the Lobster. Theb Stir Fryoed Omg Choy with Garlic and the Beef Chow fun was goo as any other places. Instagram made me go to Lobster & Steak Express! So I had some pretty high expectations - all of which were impressively met. There was just one lady attending to all the diners, greeting the folks getting their food to go, and manning the phone. She was so pleasant and really good at multi tasking. I felt rushed placing an order with her because she was talking so fast, but within minutes, the food came. I totally got that she was wearing so many hats at once so I didn't mind the frantic energy. Their lobster with noodles was a 4 pounder and cost $116. It was worth it. They didn't just serve shells but all the meat was there. We of course couldn't finish everything so we packed the lobster in to-go boxes...but guess what? The lobster tasted just as good the next day. The salt and pepper squid was lovely. Crispy on the outside but tender inside. The fried rice was fantastic too, but just a touch too oily...which is typical for Chinese cuisine. We loved everything. The cost was around $200 for the lobster, fried rice, steak and calamari but we had a great experience and we will definitely bring friends with us next time. I came on a Friday afternoon for lunch with my classmates and it was such a pleasant, pretty quiet meal, a great place to wind down. The lady was sooooo sweet, she pays attention to details like clearing, trash out of your tables and replacing your shell plates. The chicken was chopped up into tiny cubes, and I didn't know if I was eating fat or chicken because the chicken was fried, not stir fried. We tried but was only able to eat about 20% of that dish. The beef and broccoli was disappointing. At least stir fry them together! No, it was broccoli on the bottom, and just a bunch of sliced beef on the top, both cooked separately. The Lemon pork chops didn't look right, as there wasn't a hint of yellow to be found, BUT, it tasted good.
