One of the little hidden gems in baldwin park with great food. It's very unassuming since it's a small store front with it's own parking lot and no other chinese food around the area. We've been here a few times and the dongpu fatty pork meat with buns is always a go to. The way the pork melts in your mouth mixed with the picked root veggie sandwiched between the mantou bun is just yum! Service is great and the staff are friendly, they only interact with us when we make eye contact which is fine since the establishment is rather small so you don't have to stare across a large open area to try to get someone's attention. read more

Great hidden gem. The place specializes in Chinese Duck and the menu shows. Never had Meizhou style still but it was a treat with friends. Definitely recommend getting the roast duck family style with rice and noodles. The place is pretty clean and usually seating is available. The place mainly gets the bulk of its income from takeout and delivery. There have also been times where the nice lady gives me a few bonus appetizers if it's pretty late. read more

I found this restaurant on Yelp. I stopped by for dinner. The restaurant is easy to find with plenty of parking. The inside of the restaurant is nice. The tables have a pullout drawer where the staff pulls out napkins and utensils. The waitress gave me a couple of minutes to look at the menu. I ordered the sichuan dumplings and the chicken potstickers. The sichuan dumplings were good. The sauce had a great flavor. It was smoky and tasted like mole to me. The chicken potstickers were okay. I wish the filling had more flavor. I dipped them in the sichuan sauce, and that helped the potstickers taste better. The customer service was good. I will be returning to try more dishes. read more

Came in on a Thursday night around 6 and it was very quiet. The server was very welcoming and nice. It's a small restaurant with about 7-8 tables? The parking lot is huge. It also had a residential feeling to the entrance of the lot. So if you are not looking for the sign, it can easily be missed. I came here to try the beef noodle soup and it did not disappoint. It had a hint of herbal taste and the texture of the noodles was good. The noodle with minced pork was really spicy though. It had that numbing spice to it. The woodear and cabbage was okay. I came here on a whim because I was craving wonton soup or something like it. I got the spicy wonton soup 9/10 and their version of shumai. It was all delicious! Service- I was the only person there and it took a little bit of time but I don't mind it. As far as the location, there is a big parking lot. There's not a lot of decor or anything fancy, it's just no frills, and it was relatively clean. I think the price was okay, but the portions were small. Flavor wise- this is great! I'm a big fan of Meizhou Dong Po restaurant, and always want to try this Meizhou Express. It's a little bit disappointed. 1) beef noodle soup. I love the portion of beef, but not very tender. The flavor is good though. 2) Dan Dan noodle. I ordered the non-spicy version, the soup base has more flavor than the beef noodle soup. Recommend this dish. 3) pork with the bun. The pork is very tender and well cooked, the Mei Gan Cai at the bottom is not authentic though. 4) Soup bun. The skin of it is quite different than traditional Xiao Long Bao. Not bad though. The location is easy to miss, watch out the small sign on the wall. Parking spots are limited but not hard on a weekday day time. Came here with my bf since it's super close to my house ((: we ordered their cucumber salad, Meizhou shumai, spicy wonton soup and Dan Dan noodles. I absolutely LOVE their cucumber salad!! It's light and sour and garlicky and savory all at the same time yummers!!! Also loved their Dan Dan noodles, surprisingly more soupy than your average Dan Dan noodles but it still tasted super good. The bang bang chicken was the best part of the meal, a good mix of light sweetness and mala. However, it was also 10 dollars, the value of two delicious costco chickens... The soup dumplings were just dumplings, the soup inside had either seeped out, or was nonexistent. Ambiance wise, Mei Zhou Express gives you the impression that you've wandered into a small family restaurant in China. Once again, amazing, we came here tonight and a few months back with a group of four. Either the group of four, we likely ordered 8 different dishes (pork belly, Dan Dan noodles, the Meizhou Pork buns, the chicken pot stickers, the dongpo crispy duck, sichuan dumplings, peppered beef, & cold noodles with shredded chicken and obviously rice) absolutely everyone at the table was blown away, especially with the duck. It was so funny, my friend was furious with how good the duck was and how much he liked it. The Dan Dan noodles are always amazing. They have a good amount of that hot numbing sensation but not so much that it interfered with anything else. The dungpo pork belly was an umami bomb & it's the right amount of sweet, also, it was sooo tender, with a hidden bed of cabbage underneath. What? There's a Dongpo but cheaper and bigger portions? We've been to the Meizhou at the Westfield Mall in Santa Anita and boy, it's pretty pricey and the portions are gourmet-esque tiny sized. Yes, please. Recently, moved an office to Irwindale and a friend recommended we grab lunch at Meizhou Express. It's only about 10 mins from us, but things happened at the office and we ended up having to pick up to go instead. I was not disappointed - we ordered the cucumber salad, wood ear mushroom and cabbage, bang bang chicken, dongpo pork belly, and "Mr. + Mrs. Smith" which with the help of the Chinese translation = was the sliced beef in chili sauce. They refused to refund me what I originally ordered $7.99 wonton soup and charged me $9.99 because they didn't update their menus. Women at the counter is also very unfriendly. This is literally a hole in the wall place. It was kind of a nervous experience sitting in there eating first time since COVID wreaked havoc, but fortunately while we were there no one was there. The waitress was super friendly and nice. She was attentive and chatted with us to throughout. To-go utensils were offered to us, which was perfect! We ordered the Meizhou pork buns, Meizhou Shumai, Dan Dan noodle (low spiciness), and Dongpo duck (half a duck). The pork buns were hot and soft and squishy. The filling was more minced than the regular dim sum bun filling. The flavor was just right, not too salty. I enjoyed the bun very much due to their softness and fluffiness. The shumai were hot and juicy. Again, these weren't dim sum shumai that are dry. They were kind of like Xiao Long Bao but not as soupy. The shumai skin was thin and resembles wonton skin. Per the waitress, they hand wrapped their own shumai. The Dan Dan noodle was tasty as well. Loved how hot it was and the noodle was fairly al dente for a soup base noodle. It wasn't too salty and there was a fairly amount of minced pork. If you aren't used to Northern Chinese level of spiciness, order low spiciness or you might not enjoy it. The duck was my favorite. The meat was not soft and each piece didn't fall apart when picked up with chopsticks like sometimes with roasted duck. This wasn't roasted, more like sautéed, but did not taste fatty at all. The crispy skin had minimal fat and the meat was chewy in just the right amount. There was a hint of sweetness to the flavoring. Loved this entree! I've been here a few times now and giving it the authentic Dongpo rating! I've had both the Dan Dan noodles and the Beef noodles. Both dishes have surpassed its flavor test! Come here for the tapas style Sichuanese dumplings and buns! I would recommend bringing a friend to enjoy their full menu as portions are quite generous. Their Dongpo style pork is braised to perfection and very flavorful! Like many others have said, this place is magically placed in the middle of no where in Baldwin Park and I'm surprised they even opened one at this location! Ahhhh that authentic Taiwanese flavors, experienced here indeed and even more so powerful flavoring with the spices they use. Of course we had the dan dan noodle and it did not disappoint!! The chicken cold noodle was also robust in flavor. The bun with pork belly, flavor was strong, could be powerful for those not used to their authenticity. Definitely a different mix and presentation but I was happily surprised. Err to the salty side though. The portions are more tapas size but it will come in flavors to knock you off your seat. This is my 3rd time having their food here but 1st time dining in. This place never disappoints, every dish was packed with flavor and aromatic. Dongpo sausage: two different kind, original and spicy. Goes great with a bowl of white rice. Dongpo pork belly: pork belly was cooked so tender and tasty. I love the preserved veggie under, you can eat a bowl of rice just from that veggie!! One of my most favorite dish since child hood. Pig feet soup: the soup is nice and not too salty. We like to add a bit of vingear to it. And the chili sauce that come with it works great to the pig feet. Tons of veggie and soy bean at the bottom. The price is great for all dishes. It's located in an area of Baldwin Park where you'd least expect to find a Chinese restaurant that actually serves food catered to an Eastern palate. Most dishes are spicy, but won't burn your mouth, much. They're also oily, often bathing in a pool of reddish chili oil. But the flavors are great. Inside is clean, and they have some photos on the wall arranged artistically. Service is pleasant. Our server, the only one working the small dining area is polite and courteous, but not too personable. Bang bang chicken: My 2nd time having this. Chicken slices soaked in seasoned chili oil. Portions were larger before, but still good. Sliced beef, also served in a spicy oil w/ crushed peanuts on yop. Good flavor, equally heavy on the grease factor. Dan dan noodles. Also 2nd time having this. There's a bit of initial heat but the palate quickly adjusts. Also greasy. Dongpo pork belly w/ steamed buns. Fatty pork pieces, very tender and good flavor, cooked with sour pickled cabbage to put inside the bun. Delicious. Dongo Crispy Duck, perhaps the mildest in flavor and the only underwhelming dish. The meat is very lean for duck, but it's dry and bland. The skin isn't crisy at all, so this is one dish I'll probably not order again. The prices points are very reasonable. All of the dishes were about $47.00 including tax. Meizhou Cuisine can be considered a hidden gem. The exterior doesn't look like a restaurant, and the location had me skeptical at first. But one visit showed me this little eatery has some authentic spicy Chinese food. Tips: Use GPS to find this place. Private parking lot, but looks like it's shared with another business. As of 9/2018, there's a lot of road construction on Maine Ave., where Meizhou is located. Don't be afraid of the pool of lava in your food, it's not that bad. Finally, I learned this from Asian elders; don't drink iced water when eating greasy foods. Have warm or hot water to help dissolve the grease that going down your stomach. I believe there is only one regular wait staff (it's not a huge place) and she is so beyond helpful and nice!!
