It's a sensory garden so there are several sections with plants and flowers that cover the 5 senses: touch, sight, smell, taste, and hear. Cool to just walk around, it's a natural and relaxed environment. We enjoyed just taking it all in. It's not a place that takes much time to get through at all, but it's a chill stroll through and you can hang out here with family and friends. We saw another family that was just enjoying a sunny, warm, chilled afternoon with each other. We saw a father was kicking a soccer with his son and the mother hanging out with her other children. What a great place for families, but it's really a perfect outdoors place also for everyone! All in all, a nicely designed and thoughtfully created sensory garden in this expansive community park.

As a military brat, this organization holds a special place in my heart. I have donated to this cause for fifteen years, including posting a reminder daily on my Facebook page to vote for VGH to win a large donation from Home Depot years ago. And, yes, they won! Finally, I visited their wonderful facility at their annual open house on December 9, 2023. I am so pleased to see that we are helping our Veterans and their families with lodging while the Veteran receives medical attention at no cost to them! Many companies and other groups provide dinner nightly for those staying there! If you have a minute, you might want to take a quick tour to see how VGH "spends" our donations and I believe you will also be impressed. Please keep in mind that VGH operates solely on the donations of our local community! There are reading areas, a laundry room, TV rooms, and bedrooms from single beds to family-sized all with bathrooms, large open community areas like the kitchen and dining area. Please remember that our Veterans signed a blank check when they served our country and now we can help them!

Several times a year I drop off various greeting cards for the guests to use, as well as various dental items. They also accept cash and gift cards to several area stores. Throughout the year VGH has a few fund raisers. October is Boots to Fashion. A fabulous event at a Reno casino ballroom that includes a champagne three course lunch, raffle and auction items and of course a fashion show. Women veterans of all ages and branches donate their time walk the runway and show off the latest trends in women's clothing from local shops. A fabulous event that honors the many women in the military. Why are fund raisers needed ? Because VGH provides US military service veterans and their families a place to stay in Reno while they are receiving medical treatment at the VA Center or other area facilities. The House is like a small hotel with a common area living room and kitchen. It is not associated the Veterans Administration. Guests are suggested a $25 a night donation to help defray costs, but no one is refused for lack of funds. The house, located across the street from the VA Hospital, is a non-profit, and receives no state or federal money for its day to day operations. Small paths, little statues and commanding views of greater Reno. It takes longer to drive here than to walk the dirt pathways of this garden, but it's temperature cool and quaint. Not the prettiest rose garden, maybe being in the high desert it's hard to keep things from dying from the heat and from drying out. Walking around, we took pics and admired the different kinds of roses and other flowers here. The roses looked a bit tired and some of them were definitely struggling, but the garden as a whole is pretty nice, well kept, and thoughtfully landscaped. All in all, a pleasant visit and worthwhile little walk through this municipal rose garden in Reno.

As much as I love all of the green space, it would be nice to have a few more cement walkways because my socks and shoes were both soaking wet by the end of my visit. There is also a fountain and a gazebo and some benches to sit on. This would be a great quiet spot to catch up with a friend or maybe enjoy a first date. Personally, it made for a perfect stroll with my dog to enjoy the flowers and the sweet air. I'm so glad they added this space.

Fluttering, buzzing and humming of flying butterflies and bugs - do you want to hear or see that??…read more How about having the soft tickle of tiny little legs on your arms and hands?? Well that's just some of the really cool things you will get to see, observe and touch at Nevada Bugs & Butterflies!! Come out to the butterfly and science center so you can meet Tessie the Tortoise as she slowly comes out of her house to chomp on some flowers and leaves. Go inside the Butterfly House to have all them whimsically fly around you as if playing a game of tag as you get lost in the beauty of their magical wings and colors. Don't forget to look among the foliage you just may see a caterpillar or too before they cocoon and turn into one of these winged beauties. Take a stroll on the interactive science center path to learn about the indigenous plants of our area and Nevada. Then finish with the wonderful volunteers to learn all kinds of amazing things about butterflies and see up close and personal some different bugs such as: caterpillars, crickets, hissing cockroaches or a centipede with all of it's legs to walk on your hand. That's just some of the amazing things you will find at FREE outdoor facility here at the Nevada Bugs & Butterflies. We were so glad that we found this magical place and that they graciously excepted donations if you so desired (they have donation boxes set up on the property). This was a stop for us prior to our visit to Pacific Grove, CA for the Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary and found out from one of the founders (Cynthia) that was on site that day that they take part of tagging Monarch Butterflies for the migration each year (be sure to check out their website so you can be apart of that - http://nevadabugs.org/). She shared with us her research on the butterflies, what got her and husband to put this beautiful sanctuary together and what was in store for them in the future. We look forward to seeing them expand to something bigger and that more people will get out and enjoy the beauty of Nevada Bugs & Butterflies. We also found out that they welcome small groups and have had homeschool kids come for private tours - NOW THAT'S AWESOME! We had an amazing experience with the volunteers making sure to come out while we were enjoying the outdoor facilities to answer any questions we had and share with us information about the habitat, butterflies, tortoises and we really enjoyed our time there. I would say make the trek out, it's not as far as you think (heck we live in Carson City so what's your excuse). My little man and I had a blast at the circus tonight!Neither of us had ever been to one before, so…read morewhen he came home from school with a free admission for himself, I couldn't resist but say yes to taking him. My Adult ticket was only 18$, and seating was open. We found two spots right down in front and parked it quick as not to lose them! The show started with tigers, including two beautiful white tigers doing their tricks, jumping through rings of fire! Followed by amazing, yet dangerous acts such as tight ropes, (where one man almost fell tonight doing the jump rope! Glad he caught himself!!!) Silks, and even a trapeze which was Spider-Man! The circus definitely had a good amount of animal acts including dogs, elephants, tigers and even goats! Intermission came and we were able to go down into the dirt and check everything out!! For a (cash) price, you could get elephant rides, camel rides, pony rides, or have pictures taken with the dogs or Spiderman... there was even face painting. After checking everything out, we decided to go up and get in line for lemonade and Taquitos to share. They came with Guacamole and salsa which made me happy they weren't just given to us with nothing to dip them in. A circus show wouldn't be complete without clowns...eek. There were a few clown acts, which for some reason I had in my head would creep me out because I am pretty afraid of clowns to begin with...but these were so fun and lighthearted that there was just no creepy vibes at all. Which I was thankful for! ... The show finished with the motorcycles carefully riding inside a giant metal ball if you will, and it was literally insane. Four motorcycles inside there at once!!!! Omgosh, so scary! All in all it was such a blast. Taven and I had so much fun and we can't wait to see more circus acts in the future.

Great seats can be had if you upgrade your regular admission tickets to Reserved. There is a table inside that does this for you for $4.00, well worth it. Prices for food are outrageous.....cannot afford to eat here if you have a family? We now splurge on a $5.00 ice cream in a waffle cone, best buy there as the cones is large and they stuff it full of your favorite flavor. Parking is free....nice! I do have a problem with beautiful white and Bengal tigers performing silly tricks for our possible enjoyment, same with the two elephants. Know this will soon come to an end so do not stay away. If you want to see hair raising balancing acts, Arabian horses perform, rescue dogs do their act and see a man shot out of a cannon, this is the place!

A haunted night at the mansion was our first ever event with Arts for All Nevada, and I am so happy…read moreto report that it certainly wont be our last. We had such an INCREDIBLE time that I assured the girl I talked to at the end that I'll be coming back year after year that they do this event. I truly hope they continue to host more fun events like this as I would love to sign up for them all. We got to dress up as well as enjoy everyone else's creative costumes. I really enjoyed getting to choose a costume for this event. The decorations around the mansion were spooky and cute. The live music set a perfect mood, as well as the yummy snacks floating around. I didn't try many as they didn't really have any vegetarian options, but my boyfriend let me know they were tasty. I did try the chocolate "bugs" at the end which were creative and yummy. The drink competition was a whole bunch of fun. That was a huge highlight of the night. Four local bars competed for a chance to win best cocktail- we all tried, voted, and celebrated. I really enjoyed that they also had a bartender there for other drinks after the samples. Surprisingly, some events fail to provide casual drinks and it keeps the evening/event flowing much more smoothly when you're not worried about being thirsty or hungry. The sparkling waters in between the wine was also very appreciated, I truly feel more comfortable with my favorite drinks of sparkling water and wine in hand (clearly). We got to do a quick craft downstairs and mod podge some tissue paper onto candle votives which was a fun activity and also let us go home with a memory of the night. It's also something that holds sentimental value but is usable, so again is appreciated. There was also a silent auction with wonderful items. I bid on many things and won a class pass for yoga. I enjoyed this because there were so many great options, and you got to see them all at once with no pressure. This night was so special, I can't say enough great things about it. We had the pleasure of attending a haunted night at the Lake Mansion, and it was such a great time!…read moreI'm a big fan of Halloween, and while my partner isn't quite as into the spooky season as I am, he was excited to dress up and join me for this event. The experience was made even more special by the fancy concoctions offered by several local drink establishments including the Emerson and a silent raffle! We loved moving around the mansion, sampling drinks, and learning bits of Reno's history. The candle votive decorating was also a fun, simple activity that we enjoyed doing together while munching on delicious snacks. Since our visit, I've been exploring other offerings by Arts for All Nevada and am excited to sign my son up for some events this winter.
