There are some really cool small-town cafes scattered across Oklahoma. Get in the car and go try them. You can be assured of a cordial country hospitality experience, fresh delicious food, served in a relaxing slower paced, calming environment. And what I especially enjoy is meeting these owners/entrepreneurs that make these places happen. They have determination, initiative and involvement in the community. They commit many hours and financial resources to set up their business in these revitalized, charming historical buildings. It takes a special person. Such a person is the young lady that owns the Longhorn Cafe & Mercantile. She is the unofficial Mayor of Jennings, a one-woman Chamber of Commerce and Tourist Bureau combined. I asked about the building as she was headed out the door to run errands this morning. That was all the invitation she needed to pull up a chair and chat with my wife and I. We got the history and her journey to starting her first restaurant. If you see Ronnie say hi! Check out the Longhorn Cafe & Mercantile FB page. Scroll way, way down and you will see pictures of the old building being revitalized. There will also be info on weekly food specials and hours posted there. If you haven't figured it out by now, strong hint...I loved this place. And then there is the food.... For me, my favorite. Two eggs medium, crisp bacon, crisp hash browns an a big fluffy "Cat Head Biscuit" covered in fresh peppered cream gravy. My wife made a great selection; the Farmer Breakfast. A pile of cowboy potatoes, with sauteed onions, bell peppers, bacon and mushrooms, covered with two medium fried eggs, a few sliced jalapenos to add spice and toast. Both of these excellent meals accompanied by a hot cup of coffee. What a delicious couple of breakfasts at the end of a pleasant morning drive.

The service was outstanding, the food was good and the atmosphere was that of a family restaurant in a small community where the locals hang out and enjoy comfort food over a relaxing conversation.

It is a crafty approach actually. Twice the exposure on the review sites. [Even more confusing, there is a sign on the side of the building that says "Sunnyside Steakhouse"] The two names should give you a clue of cuisines served. If you guessed Mexican/American, you got it. On the menu this morning we found regular American breakfast food and huevos rancheros, Mexican potatoes and chorizo potatoes. You can mix the two cuisines to suit your preference. My wife and I both ordered The Pipeliner. A perfect name for a meal served up in "The pipeline capital of the world Cushing, OK." Two eggs, two bacon strips, potatoes of your choice, Toast or a biscuit. My wife chose the Mexican potatoes and I went with the spicy chorizo potatoes and a biscuit. Check the pictures. This was an excellent breakfast!! The restaurant/café is very nice. It has a steak house ambiance. Clean comfortable and superb service. This is your breakfast in Cushing OK! Hanging near the kitchen area is a large screen TV that has a loop of local businesses advertisements. Today's winner's slogan encourages customer to "drop their pants." Everyone at the table ordered something different. I had the country skillet with biscuits and gravy, and it was absolutely delicious. We had burgers and a variety of other dishes, and everything hit the mark. Our server was fantastic -- drinks stayed full, and we never had to ask for anything. I was honestly shocked at how smooth and enjoyable the whole experience was We camp at Washington Irving South all summer, and we'll definitely be back and I will order the coconut cream pie! A grungy restaurant with below average food…read more The service is slow. The restrooms are dirtier than the service pit at a Jiffy Lube. For some reason there is an air filter attached to the outside of each air conditioning intake vents, that caught my eye. They are congested with years and years of anything and everything that may have floated in the air. An attractive, appetizing collection of gray allergens, shed skin cells and hair. Look at the picture. Why do people eat here? It can't be blamed on beer. They don't serve any. Maybe it was great a few years ago? I am not going to waste any more of my time or yours. Drive to Cleveland, OK. There are a couple of great places to eat there. Kathy's Mason jar needs to have a lid put on it and canned!
