My husband and I are not from MA and hadn't been to a Longhorn before. We brought his grandmother out for her 93rd birthday on Monday night. Everything about our experience was extraordinary! Heather, our server, always made sure our needs were met, even going so far as to bring an ingredient book out to us so we could cross reference entrees with our dietary restrictions. Went for lunch and it was pretty empty. We were seated right away and greeted by our waitress. The restaurant was clean but booths were a little overly loved lol. I will say it was off putting when we arrived, there was an employee smoking his cigarettes right at the front door. It was raining so all the smoke really stayed in the entry and surrounded us. Food was good! Knocking off a star because my fiancé ordered his burger medium well and it came in almost rare. This review is based only on a recent takeout experience. The crispy Brussels sprouts were amazing. I don't know what type of čraçk they put in there but it was finger-licking good. Crispy, tangy, sweet, not too greasy. The best I've had in a long time. The chicken wings were pretty good too. They're not breaded, which is nice. First time here- my friend gave me an old gift card she was going to use and I was staying at a hotel in the area over night and needed to grab dinner somewhere. Was excited to see this place was local- there aren't any near me, and was happy to save some money with my gift card after hotel expenses. There was $75 on gift card, and we wanted to use it up since there's no Longhorns near us, and it was actually a challenge to use it up! We ordered two steaks, both which came with the choice of a side and salad, or 2 sides rather than a salad. Awesome side choices, your usual stuff, and some extras for a little up charge like lobster Mac n cheese. The sides we got were quite large, they don't skimp out. Realizing we still had a good amount left on gift card, we picked an appetizer and I went to the bar and ordered it after picking up our take out order. I got two mixed drinks, Jack and cokes that were $5 and change each. In Massachusetts this is unheard of. Typically I pay upwards of $15 for a mixed drink! The bartender was super nice, and on point with timing and not rushing me despite just ordering a to go and two drinks by myself. I brought a notebook and pen and did a little writing- it's not usual I get time to myself like this to relax with (free!) drinks and a cozy, comfortable atmosphere. Altogether, while in the area, it seemed that people are just genuinely happy and nicer than they are where I live, closer to Boston. The area has a sort of old school, country feel to it. And Longhorn didn't disappoint. (Don't get me wrong- the building wasn't old or creepy or anything, it was just a vibe I can't really explain, other than to say it's what I think the world may have been like far before I became the age where going to a bar by myself and writing for an hour is a dream, I'm 29). If I did this at a bar where I live, I'd probably feel weird about it, and feel like the bartender was rushing me out. Wish I caught the bartenders name that night, he was just so nice and made me feel so welcome and at home, even offering me bread while waiting for take out. Ambiance was nice, music not too loud, lights dim but not too dark...just cozy as I said before. I didn't want to leave! The ride home was really pleasant though, everything smelt amazing. And it tasted just as good. Partner got the mashed potatoes, and broccoli as sides to his sirloin, I got rice pilaf and the best French onion soup with my ribeye. He insisted I try the broccoli- usually not a fan of side dish broccoli, but WOW! I was wishing I ordered it myself. Seasoned perfectly, with a nice garlic flavor, far from the bland stuff I'm used to. Even the rice pilaf was seasoned exceptionally. We got some sort of spicy chicken bites for our appetizer, they weren't Buffalo but sort of Asian inspired? The sauce they were tossed in was awesome, perfect kick to them. Huge portion too- we ended up having left overs for lunch, and being able to make our dogs night with plenty of steak tossed his way (and his favorite, mashed potatoes ). Was a perfect night. We stayed down the road at the EnVision hotel which was awesome as well. We weren't on a "fun" trip, and this experience really made me feel so relaxed when going through a really stressful time otherwise. (Side note- I typically avoid chain restaurants, so I was extra impressed with the overall feel. We have been there twice since Father's Day.. and it has been beyond amazing! All the servers have been super helpful and friendly. It doesn't matter if they are your server or not, they are willing to help with a genuine smile. I have 3 children under 4 and so dinners with husband always usually includes them. So we usually have to bother a server here and there for extra bread or napkins.. anyhow, regardless of our needs, they were unwaveringly wonderful to us. We have complimented the staff to 2 of the managers on shift. Both were awesome to speak to and held the shift perfectly it seemed. No long waits. Our server appeared quickly and also greeted us and asked if we'd like to order a beverage or have some time to review the menu. We never felt rushed, only appreciate. My husband had the steak tips, which he described as cooked perfectly and very tasty. I enjoyed a delicious rib eye steak with rice pilaf and seasoned mushrooms. We explained to our server that we will split checks to 4 families and he said he understood. He took down each family and I had a family of 5 and he charged me 3 extra people on my bill (an extra $100) So when I went to the server to explain his mistake, before I opened my mouth, he shouted at me; "NO! NO! YOU GUYS WERE TOO MANY AND I KNEW THERE WILL BE CONFUSION! I AM NOT GOING TO CORRECT ANYTHING!" I was shocked of his rude attitude and was planning before that to tip him 20% but gave him a little over $5 due to his vulgar behavior. And when he got the bill, he came back in anger saying; "WHY ARE YOU GIVING ME A SMALL TIP?!!!!" and he threw my bill on the table in a rude manner. So I responded because of your attitude. We were just here 2 weeks ago and once again we loved the food. I asked for manager to express our appreciation of how delicious the food was to the cook and to also let the manager know how attentive and friendly our server Dan was. He checked with us on how our food was as well if we needed any more drinks a couple of times and to ask if we wanted dessert. They also forgot to give my wife's side dishes on her filet that was undercooked. I have been to this place several times before and it's normally good. LongHorn in general is a fabulous chain. It's one of the few that I wish would open just a bit closer to my house in Westwood. When need be though (aka when I'm craving it), I'll make the trip to Franklin or here though. With that said, Franklin continuously has a higher success rate with me. Consistently the wait is longer here than in Franklin, and even though it is a free standing restaurant, the parking lot was horribly designed. So for those two minor concerns, minus one star. For the rest of the story with this place.... everything is positive. Staff are helpful, efficient, kind, and very knowledgeable about the menu and new items. Steaks and burgers are my favorites here.... steak is the specialty though. Prices are reasonable, and you're really doing yourself a disservice by not bringing a coupon. They send them out by email frequently and are in the Boston Globe flyers even more often. Service is normally efficient, and the bread is simply the best (same as my former favorite restaurant, now closed, Bugaboo Creek!). We went last night for dinner and we were very pleased. The hostess was very pleasant and friendly and addressed me by name, which I appreciate. We had a short wait, but not bad at all. After we were seated, it didn't take long for our waitress, Alice to come by for drink orders and to bring the warm bread. Our drinks were delivered and we ordered dinner. Alice was attentive and friendly and really seemed to know what she was doing. We chose the 2 for $29.99 special. We started with an appetizer - the Wild West Shrimp (I think that's what it was called) and thought it was absoluted delicious. Cooked perfectly and the ranch sauce and peppers were great. For dinner, I went with the rainbow trout and my husband had the bacon wrapped sirloin. We both got a caeser salad and while I had the baked potato, he went with mashed. We did not have a long wait for the food and everything was very good. His steak was cooked perfectly and when I tried a bite, I almost wished that I had gotten steak. Well....the one star says it all. A total waste of money. My ribs were cold. The kids burger was rare and wet. Service was slow. But what was most bothersome was that I returned the cold ribs, the manager was present but never came over to offer an apology or make the situation better. All communication happened thru our waitress which I'm sure was awkward for her. It's no way to run a business that is supposed to thrive based on customer satisfaction. My husband and I thought what was going to be a quiet night out turned into a nightmare at Longhorns. Our waiter was not attentive at all. Not sure where he disappears off to at 25 minutes at a time. Our food either never came out of the kitchen or the wrong food was delivered to our table. It was not busy, so we were confused as to why it took 25 minutes for bread and butter to reach our table. And an additional 30 minutes for a side salad to be delivered to our table. Im not even going to mention when the entrees arrived, when it did arrive, and with the food that we actually ordered. We highly do not reccomend this location until a new manager is hired and cleans house. The only person who we encountered which was the most pleasant person there was the young blonde hostess. Everyone else was either clueless and avoided eye contact with us. In closing, our waiter's body language told me if i didn't ask for a check he was going to strike my husband. I watched as the waiter made a fist to the side of his body as he started accusing my husband of being a racist. This misinformation happens when you have a bunch of employees with poor communications. To the manager who gave us a no can do attitude, you should be fired.
