Chicken fried steak, baked potatoes and corn... mehhh
    Ralf R.

So I wanted a steak but settled on a chicken fried steak. One of my buddies told me that Longhorn Tavern had a phenomenal chicken fried steak. So I said ok let's go. Got there place was not very busy but I only saw 2 servers working we got a table and sat down. I ordered a sweet tea and sweet was and understatement. This was liquid diabetes no joke!. Ordered some fries mushroom and pickles both of the appetizers were great! So now I was like ok the chicken fr6steak is gonna be fire! Got my chickenfried steak and it was pretty big but that's where the compliments end. The corn was bland and discolored almost white with absolutely no flavor. The bakes potato was ok nothing special. Now for the chicken fried steak. For being world famous or something like that it was a disappointment to say the least. There was really no flavor it was bread nicely though. Can't really say much for it. Whole meal cost me about 40 something dollars. Would I coke again maybe just to try the steak. Chicken Fried Steak when I ordered chicken fried chicken

I've been coming to this restaurant since June and have always enjoyed the food, but today was really disappointing. I ordered a chicken fried chicken kids meal, and they gave me chicken fried steak instead. When I brought it up, the manager refused a refund and told me I "shouldn't be ordering a kids meal as an adult," even though I've ordered it before without any issue and was ordering for my child. She also insisted I ordered wrong, even though I clearly asked for chicken fried chicken. It felt dismissive and unprofessional. Mistakes happen, but refusing to fix it and blaming the customer is not good service. I really liked this place, but this experience made me rethink coming back. Hopefully management improves how they handle situations like this. I've been coming to this restaurant since June and have always enjoyed the food, but today was really disappointing. Longhorn Tavern is pure Texas! The atmosphere is warm and rustic. We stopped in last night for dinner. We were immediately seated and asked about drinks. Our server was a real sweetheart. She had a smile on her face the whole evening! She asked for our appetizer order right a way. The mushroom buttons are a must-have! The menu is what you would expect from a down home country restaurant in this pleasant southern community. All the comforts of home... I ordered a New York strip (New York City!!!) Our group also had Chicken Fried Steak and a Pork Chop. The food was excellent and surprisingly affordable and the portions were very large. They even have a 55 and up senior menu with portions so generous, that other restaurants would consider it normal fare. We were in and out in a snap! Throw in a Lone Star beer and what else could a person ask for? Really...

The onion rings were the worst. The onion was "pulp" they looked like they arrived frozen in a bag and were simply tossed in hot oil. Nasty!

Chicken Fried Steak is the best in the Brazos Valley. Adding more words because that review is too short.

Escargot Stuffed Mushrooms- a bit tiny, but packed with buttery goodness. Entrees: A5 Wagyu Flat Iron- this was a special and it wasn't tender enough to cut with just a fork like I've experienced, but still pretty tender and very juicy. Seasoned perfect to eat by itself, but it came with 4 different restaurant-made steak sauces. Mesquite Smoked Short Ribs- very tender and can be torn to shreds with a fork. Comes with mash potatoes and gravy and some crispy noodles for texture. Very flavorful. Sides: Maple Bacon Pecan Brussel Sprouts- very delicious and flavorful. Smoked Mashed Potatoes- very thick and smokey, but delicious. Definitely need some water lol. Poblano Creamed Corn- my wife liked this, but I didn't care for that creamy corn texture lol. Dessert: Marie Antoinette Cake- chocolate mousse cake that was perfectly rich with some kind of raspberry or berry drizzle. Also came with these super delicious alcoholic infused strawberries that paired super well. Overall, it was a pricey dinner, but not as pricey as I thought. Definitely had a great time and worth the price and experience. The restaurant ambience was dim and cabin-like setting with lots of beautiful decor. And the Mash Madness whiskey competition is such a cool touch -- blind tasting between A and B like March Madness for bourbon. Makes it even more fun.

We were met by our waitress who was phenomenal- she got us a little candle and was honestly so engaging to talk to. The food was outstanding! So much so that I totally forgot to take a picture. My husband got a curried fish dish that was excellent. It had Smokey greens, black beans, and a full fish in a delicious curry sauce that I ended up mopping my fries in. I sprung for the burger that was so tall, my mouth could barely take a bite. The meat was juicy, and I cleared my plate. All of the cocktails were exceptional, and despite a rocky start to our night, the staff at Ronin managed to eventually find us a small table during an opening in reservations, which made it perfect for us. Ronin is farm to table and a huge supporter of local business which is a plus, not to mention their adorable restaurant is in a refurbished building, and the ambiance is exceptional for date nights.
