I had ordered a wine with my lamb chops when I first sat down and the wine came 25 minutes later. The lamb chops were good but overpriced. I asked for mint jelly and guess what? 10 minutes later they told me they didn't have it. The final straw was when I asked for some of the cornbread and they ended up having to pack it to go because it took 30 minutes. They comped the oysters and crème brule. I've come here a couple times for special occasions, and I think it's a very solid restaurant for a good steak. I don't I don't really think college Station has a great food scene when it comes to high-quality meals however, Porter has consistently offered a great steak meal. I ordered a Caesar salad to share with anchovies on top and I particularly liked the pomegranate seeds that offered a refreshing and sweet flavor. I split a 14 ounce ribeye and it was cooked perfectly at medium rare and had great seasoning. Some of the other people ordered chicken fried steak a burger and fillets and their food looked great as well despite coming usually on busy days such as graduation and ring day, the service has always been great and very helpful. My partner and I have dined here a couple of times. The first time was great which is why we decided to return to this restaurant every time we are in town. However, after our last visit, I'm not so sure we will be coming back. We dined here in a Thursday evening during parents weekend so it was a little busy. However, the service was subpar and my steak was even worse. The oyster Rockefeller was delicious and arrived in a timely matter as did our Caesar salad. Unfortunately I can't say the same for my steak. My filet arrived severely undercooked and upon delivery, the server saw that when he asked me to cut it to check the temperature and took it back so it could be fixed. I asked for it medium and it arrived rare. It took a while for it to come back to my table and when it did it was well done and dry with crispy edges. I'm still confused about how a steakhouse could mess up on the one thing that they're known for. For this level of dining, I will judge harshly. We came in for a nice dinner before my sister's start to the semester. My family has come once before and liked it but this experience was sub par. For an appetizer we got the shrimp cocktail. It was overcooked and chewy. I really enjoyed the cornbread they served however. For the mains, we shared a ribeye, the scallop special with risotto, the bone in pork chop, and sides of green beans and mac n cheese. The scallops were overcooked which is incredibly disappointing. Not only that, it came with "3 scallops" but to me it seemed like 1.5 that had been cut horizontally to make more pieces. Not sure, however incredibly pricey for sad seafood. The risotto was also overwhelmingly sweet. I liked the pork chop, it was tender and a good portion. It came with mashed potatoes and overly charred Brussels sprouts. This was also overall a bit sweet but the best entree in my opinion that we had. The ribeye was very bland. The mac n cheese was very creamy and was good but quite heavy. The green beans were cooked with a bit of bacon but overall lacked seasoning. Overall, all the dishes were served lukewarm in our opinion. The seafood was all overcooked and there was a lack of seasoning/too much sweetness all around. I recommend the corn bread and that's about it. Big bucks, big disappointment. Four adults came here for dinner. The drinks took forever to arrive because "they were backed up" at the bar. One diner ordered the salmon. It arrived stone cold. The second time it came out, it was lukewarm. They finally got the salmon hot on the third try, but the potatoes underneath were cold. My husband and I each ordered the lobster cobb salad. For $32, I was expecting chunks of lobster. Instead, it was finely minced and we got, at most, two level tablespoons worth. $64 total for what were basically tossed salads. However, they told me they had a "great" idea to circumvent this situation. They told me they would sit me by the dumpster. The dumpster for a birthday, what a great idea. After I said that was horrible, he transferred me to his manager. This manager, instead of honoring our reservation or moving the time, offered me another one of their bizarre "ideas". He proposed one of the two of us could sit at the bar, and the other one could sit ON the toilet. This is utterly unprofessional, and so belittling. My wife and I were celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary and we wanted to enjoy a good steak dinner with a bottle of wine. We live about 1.5 hours from College Station in the rural country. My wife used the internet to find a nice restaurant and apparently Porter's website convinced her we should celebrate there. Kudos to the webmaster. Our experience was very poor. We got there early around 5pm. We announced our 50th anniversary to our waiter. We purchased an $85 bottle of wine. I ordered the premium 14oz Ribeye costing $53 and my wife ordered an 8oz Filet costing $47. My wife and I were enjoying memories of the last 50+ years while the wine came out. Shortly our steaks came out. After eating several bites of my steak I came to realize that it was not a ribeye nor was it "premium". It was a New York Strip steak. My wife and I continued celebrating and she ate half of her steak, which was very good, and offered me the other half, which I ate. When the waiter came around I did not want to make a big fuss about my steak since my wife and I were having a great time talking with each other. I told the water that my steak was not a "premium" ribeye steak and I would not be finishing it. He apologized but did nothing else except bring us our check. No offer to make an adjustment for the error in steaks, no offer of a "free" desert for our anniversary nor for the error in steaks. I've been to Porter's several times over the years and it's always good, but most recently it was really fantastic. Every single dish that came to the table was very good. I had the Chicken Fried Steak (always a hit), husband had a filet, brother had a Chicken Caesar Salad, my parents had the Heirloom Tomato Cruise and the Porters Prime Bavette - everybody raved and said was delicious. Sides that we had were the mashed potatoes, green beans (green beans are always so average but these were actually very good), macaroni (which is the best I've ever had), and brussel sprouts (like candy). Service was great, our waitress was kind, attentive and knowledgeable. Overall ambiance was great as well. My only complain (from an 8.5 month pregnant lady) is that my chair was really uncomfortable and I found I had to frequently adjust/rest my elbows on the table in order to feel like I could breathe. 10/10! We had reservations my husband made for my birthday. So we could have dinner with our children since this was a half way meeting point Houston and Waco. He called ahead and ask if it was ok to bring in a cake. He was assured it was fine. When we got the cake out and ask our waiter if we could have some small plates, forks, and a knife. The manager would not allow it!!!!!!! We had just been entrusted with a steak knife for our steak and a butter knife for the butter but could not have a knife to cut the cake. Which a butter knife would have worked fine. So we boxed the cake back up and left and will never ever return. Not to mention the quality of the steak. Flavor was great but I have purchased much better qualities of meat from the grocery store!!!!! If they didn't want an outside cake brought in they could have informed him of that instead of saying it was ok. Ate here on September 23, 2023 (Auburn weekend). My wife, son, and I ordered drinks, appetizers, Caesar salad, and entrees (scallops and risotto). We were frequently forgotten by the waitstaff. We waited 30 minutes for our drinks to arrive. Our waiter blamed the bar. Appetizers (shrimp cocktail and calamari) were on time, but damp and soggy (not an appealing description for calamari). Our entree was served cold. 30 minutes later, our waiter shows up again to ask if we wanted another glass of wine. Not worth $160 for this experience.
