Called and got an appointment within 3 days. I always wait till the last minute to make an appointment because I have trouble committing to things early on. She quoted $50 bucks for a Brazilian and asked if i found her on Yelp. Look for the two red chairs. I called again and confirmed it was $50 and not $60 (for first timers), but she called back and said $50. I get to my appointment and she says well it's going to be $60 today, but after that it's $50. I got worried because I wrote a check at home already (I don't carry checks with me normally). I hesitantly mentioned that I called and confirmed the cost and she said it would be $50 because it was not my first time. She said first time doesn't mean first wax ever, it means anything after five weeks growth. Oh. I didn't know that. I guess I'm used to my other waxers prices in the East Bay and Los Angeles who charge the same price for everyone and they cost less. I was behind on my waxes due to an insane schedule. Lonni ended up giving me the wax at the quoted price $50, but I felt that kind of put a downer on the rest of the minutes spent there. So yeah, the wax was a great wax. Quick, clean, very similar speed technique to my Southern Cal woman (The Queen Bee) in West LA. I like the speed factor. That part is very much appreciated. Location is also great because it's a five minute drive or a ten minute walk from my house. I feel bad about this, but I'm going to be honest and keep up with writing real honest reviews. I was feeling pretty unsure about Lonni because I felt bad that I had prewritten a check for the lower cost including tip added to it (even though I confirmed the cost twice before the appointment). I felt she wasn't too friendly with me because of this miscommunication. I left feeling unsure that I would want to see her again because I can't see someone who I don't think would want to see me again and there is a lot of hesitation. PLEASE NOTE: I am not hating on Lonni or the business. I do want to go back because I think she does a great job. I just don't like the extra ten bucks for over five weeks growth. Sometimes I wait four, sometimes five, sometimes three and sometimes six. It really depends on how much I've grown. What's more important? The quality of the wax job or feeling comfortable with the woman waxing those hidden areas that I only want one other person to see. Would love your feedback. Appointment was very easy to set up by phone. She'll send you a text reminder the day before your session. She has a one room studio in a professional building shared by several other salons. There are several places to sit and wait in the hallway and a spic and span restroom in the back. I was a little early but she was available right away. Since it was my first time she put me at ease by giving me an overview of the waxing and what to expect. Yes it was going to hurt, yes there could be irritation, and yes she would get me through it as fast as possible. If you have not had this done here is how it works. She spreads some hot wax on your skin, puts a strip of cloth on it, and rips it off while pulling your hair out of their follicles. Usually one tug gets all the hair out but there is always a little clean up along the edges. She was very quick, did a very thorough job, and kept me entertained with interesting and distracting conversation throughout. She covered, or rather uncovered, all of my requested areas and did so with respect and ultimate professionalism. Being naked, on a table with legs spread feeling like I'm about to see my gyno walk in to just have hot wax placed on my special space then ripped off like some sort of medieval torture. That was my one and only waxing experience prior to today and why it took me years to give it another try. Lonni was freaking awesome! She made me comfortable with her great conversation distracting me from the pain and she worked so incredibly fast making the pain short lived which is a huge plus in my book. Another awesome thing was that while I went in and got what to me felt and seemed like every part of my body waxed, she was honest about not waxing a certain part. While I knew I was probably too short to be waxed on my underarms she still took a look and was honest with me and said that she wouldn't want to do a bad wax being that the hair was too short. I wouldn't write this review right now, if I didn't recently have an appointment at the same location with a far more professional and sanitary waxer. I set up an an appointment for a Brazilian with Lonni a few months back after getting a recommendation on-line. I arrived at her location and had no problem being seen on time. My first impression of Lonni was that she was cool but in a rush to get me in and out. Even though I felt concern for her being in a rush I continued on with high hopes given all the great reviews. I was told to undress and did so quickly. I laid down on the table and Lonni wasted no time when she came in the room to rip my hair off in HUGE sections. No baby powder, so that only my hair not my skin stuck to the wax. Can you say VERY PAINFUL! She used the same stick the WHOLE TIME!!! Which I found out is very unsanitary ladies and puts you at risk for a nasty infection. She had NO bed side manner given the intensity of the waxing experience. To top it off at the end she refused to wipe all of the area she waxed with wax remover and said "I am not going to wipe your ass". Very ghetto and rude, given I am a paying customer. The whole time she talked about how fast she is and how next time she can get me out in 8 minutes!! 8 minutes for a Brazilian, I should have stopped and ran away from the table. She also talked about how she needs to make more money in San Francisco or she is going back to New York. GHETTO! I walked out of there after paying her $60 plus tip with bumps all over my area which didn't go away until the hair grew back in. She gave me a bullshit excuse that I should exfoliate my area more. Also noticed some stray hairs, no excuse for that. I think the real reason for my irritation and stray hairs is that she shouldn't have rushed ripping out my hair like a mad woman with her nasty ass wax stick. After 2 sessions with Lonni, I changed my tune. - She doesn't really get the full bikini line- mine does extend more than 1 inch from my panties. And I felt too intimidated to ask her to do more. So I had to go home and use the damned epilator machine. Ouch. - I experienced an unusually quick regrowth which leads me to believe she doesn't get the root. I want to start off by saying that I REALLY did want to like Lonni's Punani. I had been looking forward to my appointment all week and had told all my girlfriends how excited I was. I should have let the initial phone call from Lonni warn me about her stand-offish attitude towards her customers, but I brushed it off and eagerly arrived to my appointment anyways. I arrived early and checked in with the front desk. They told me to have a seat and Lonni would be right out. I was then approached by a lady who did not match the pictures of Lonni on the site, but just figured it was her assistant and went to the back room with her. As I was getting undressed, I mentioned Lonni and the lady realized that I was not her client and rushed me back out to the waiting room where I then met the real Lonni. It went downhill from there...she rushed me into the room mentioning that I was late and we'd have to hurry. Thats when I started sweating...a brazillian is not really something you want rushed. I normally go to a cheap hole in the wall that takes their time and applies a numbing cream to ease the pain, but Lonni just went right into it, tearing hair out as quickly as possible. For some people, that may be what you are looking for...but lordy lord!! 'Down there' needs to be treated with respect and is generally more sensitive than other areas. As I was laying face down with my cheeks spread (a very vulnerable position in any circumstance), Loni started talking smack about previous reviews she has received on Yelp by unhappy customers. All I could muster was a casual chuckle to play along and a "yea...I cant stand people like that". Normally I am not bothered by little quirks that people posses, but felt it was a bit of an inappropriate time to be venting. I mean I guess she caught me in a good position, I could not exactly get up and escape with no pants on and wax still covering half of my nether region, but I almost felt as if it were a threat. Like, if you post anything negative about me, I will make you regret it. And hey...some people obviously did not have the same experience and can vibe with her sassy attitude. It takes a whole lot of woman to do what she does. And that's fine, but when you are limping out whincing in pain knowing that its not normal to be in that much pain, something needs to be said. I feel as if it is my duty as a woman to warn others of the potential danger. I mean, my hair grew back white! This all may be TMI but white?! That is a sign of trauma! Lonni might be five feet tall in heels, and probably weighs 95 pounds when she's fully clothed and soaking wet. I am six foot four and let's just say I'm not skinny. I went to Lonni for a full leg and manzillian, and when I saw her tiny ass I thought, "This is going to be interesting." She had me stripped down, spread eagle, and hairless before I even realized we had started. I shit you not, Lonni can do both full legs in the time it takes most waxers to do one half leg. I farted on Lonni and she was totally nonplussed. I think that says a lot. Lonni is the biggest pro when it comes to landscaping my bits. For example: - I have extremely sensitive skin. Not once have I gotten burned, bled, or rashed by one of her treatments. I can only say that about one other waxer, who happens to take twice as long as Lonni. - The whole brazilian is over in record-time. No pouring over every one of my pores and taking forever to slowly yank out my follicles. She gets in, gets out, and then you can go back to work having only been gone for 30 minutes door-to-door (for me, that includes driving over from SoMa, parking, the appointment, and getting back to my office.) - She THROWS PARTIES FOR HER CLIENTS. I couldn't believe Lonni received 5 stars for waxing. To be more specific...BIKINI WAXING. Who gets five stars on that? It's a painful procedure and there's no way around that...so...my curiosity got the best of me and I checked her out. First, her prices are super reasonable....$50 for a Brazilian? Sweet! That's some extra moo-lah for my fro-yo addiction. So I walk in to her charming hair salon/waxing room on a Saturday afternoon...say around 2:35. I walked out hairless and in awe...say around 2:45. And that includes the time to undress, clean up, get dressed again and to pay her. Can I saw "wow"! She is super duper fast...talks through the whole time so you're trying to answer her (to be polite) and not scream when she yanks the strip off your most sensitive areas ...and before you know it...tah dah! However, 2nd experience wasn't any better, I was just better mentally prepared. pros - fast - easy parking cons - She's brusk and sometimes that is actually preferable to the chatty service providers but she's brusk in a bully way. - during the service she bad mouths people who don't properly tip so she's trying to pre-shame you into giving her a better tip - she opens the door (into a busy walk area) while you're bottomless and exposed - she makes no effort to ensure that you're covered when she swings the door open wide enough for passer-bys (including men) to see you. I've visited Lonni twice, and twice I have been disappointed. And while her practice is fast and relatively pain free, she is not thorough and leaves stubble, short hairs. Secondly, she demands a tip. It's best practice and common knowledge that if the owner of the salon is the practitioner a tip is not necessary. In general her manner is "hard" but I can't accept that for an imperfect service. And lastly, a red flag!! uses the same wax applicator stick between customers and dips into the wax. Double dipping is unsanitary and I can't have that when we're working with my skin. In sum, I wouldn't come here again. read more

I found Lonni thanks to Yelp. I'm new to the area and am starting over with all of my services. And let me tell you, waxing isn't something us girls mess around with. So when I saw all the positives on Yelp I knew she was the one to try. And all of you were right! Lonni is SUPER fast. My old waxer in DC was fast too, but Lonnie is even quicker. Pretty painless and very thorough and even (necessity!). Parking was actually easy and I think her price is good too. My tiiiiiny complaint was because she is so fast I was still sticky and waxy in some places, it wasn't completely cleaned up afterwards. Also, if you are sensitive (like I am) bring lotion or ask for it afterwards. I was surprised there was no after treatment. I like Lonnie, so the new girl has officially found her waxer. UPDATE 5/29/08: Lonni called me after she saw my Yelp review. She saw my tiny complaint and wanted to clear it up. It's obvious she cares very much about her service and her customers. I went to Lonni for the first time today. Waxing has almost been cut out of my life completely due to other expenses, so I jumped on the opportunity when I saw her come up on Groupon. I came in full of anxiety over having to show a stranger the goods and embarrassment because it had been so long. Then I saw Lonni and she was this tiny little lady! None of this mattered! She got to work, no complaining about my vags's sorry state, no snickering. I walked in with an ewok in my pants and left, well, with more of a yoda situation going on. I don't know what people want out of this experience...I had no issue with her "beside manner." we chatted the whole time and I was done so fast, there was no time to have a problem anyway. She seems like my kinda girl, but if you want to be called sweety and listen to new age music then you should go elsewhere. I do have a couple of patches of hair under my butt, but that is probably because that's where my hands were holding my cheeks. I know now if I had an issue and let her know, she would likely take care of it. She strikes me as that kind of person after one visit. I will go back to her for upkeep for sure. If it took her 10 minutes to tame what I had going on, I can't imagine how fast she'd be otherwise. And she's totally thorough, while being so speedy. Keep up the good work Lonni. My visit with Lonni last month left a BURNING question in my mind: "WHY DID I NOT GET WAXED EARLIER???!!! " All of the time spent fretting over razor burns, bumps and cuts...*sigh*... I mark what happens below the belt as "PRIVATE" and "PERSONAL", but I have to give Lonni her props. I was literally hair free, with NO STRAGGLERS, in less than 15 minutes FLAT. It is NOT painless, but no numbing gel was required. There was no broken skin, no blood, no gore...and as awkward as it is to have someone outside of my GYNO or a boyfriend down there...Lonni breaks up any awkwardness with conversation that is direct. I am not a person that usually writes these types of responses, but having been a manager of a high end spa in Monterey (who took all the complaints for the spa), I have heard all of the complaints in the book and wanted to shed a different hue of light on them. Ana B.: I understood that all these things confused you somehow, but even given all of that, you didn't even have an appointment with Lonni. Yelp is not for rating Lonni's personality, it's for rating her services. If you haven't had a service, you should take your review down. It's disrespectful if you can't even say you've been to her. Shanell W.: I take being sanitary very seriously. I understand your concern as I thought about it too when I walked in, but then I saw the huge pile of sticks next to her waxing pot. She does not use the same stick. I also know what you mean by her not having "bed side manner". We worked on that at the spa a lot. You're right, she doesn't have the "bed side manner". But she also doesn't work in a high end spa (and doesn't charge a high end price). She's funny and nice though and how much bed side manner can you perform in 8 minutes flat? About the 8 minutes - I couldn't be a larger fan. Do you want your brazilians to take an hour? If you do, you're a braver woman then me. At the spa, they usually take 45 minutes to an hour. It sounds like you would prefer a spa setting - just so you know, you can pay upwards of 75 for it. Personally, I don't want anyone's face in my coo for longer than it has to be in these situations. I've had the 45 minute brazilian, and I LOVE that I have never been at Lonni's longer than 10 minutes, that she's nice and texts you the day before to remember your appointment. And I even screwed up mine once and she squeezed me back in and didn't charge me extra for it like spas would. Lonni is not your overly-caring, mother figure who is worried about professional bed side manner above all things. She is also not going to be your BFF (unless you really want to be BFF's with your waxer), and is always going to tell it to you straight (she's from New York ;) ). If you don't want that, then that's fine. She's not your style. But don't write a poor review if you haven't even had her services. I think it's tacky. At least Shanell tried her and figured out that Lonni wasn't the waxer for her. And really, I mean NO disrespect in commenting on your comments. I just wanted to give another opinion on how it could be looked at from someone that's been going to her almost a year and will continue to do so as long as I live here. Also, I haven't had a single experience of her leaving any patches and like the other person said, she'll fix it if you let her know. She's very fair. So before I go into the review, let's be straight-up on a few points about waxing: (1) It smarts. There is no way you will find a waxing experience that is painless. Just laugh as it happens! (2) There is always the threat of skin reactions to the process, even if you have had no reaction at a previous waxing. (3) Your hairlessness is never going to last as long as you envisioned. With that in mind: As a recently hairy man, I can say, with absolute conviction, that Lonni is absolutely the best waxing experience you will find. First, Lonni provides quite a no-frills experience. There is a table, house music, your ass-naked body on said table, and wax. No more, no less. Which is exactly what you want. Waxing shouldn't be built up as anything particularly special or momentous. It is just hair removal. Keep it simple! Second, Lonni was an absolute delight as a waxer. She is quite talkative, which is perfect, since the conversation will keep your mind off the pain. She is very polite and direct with her requests ("Well . . . get naked!"), and more than willing to hear you out if you need her to do something differently. She provided some warnings before we began (especially regarding chest waxing), which we much appreciated. Finally, the results are great. Lonni is quite efficient. I received a full body wax (and I mean EVERYWHERE) and it only took about 1.5 hours. The price was right. If you need your hair gone, go see Lonni! She really is great. read more

She clocked in at 15 minutes.... and I used to go to a girl that took about an hour which is really a lifetime in waxing years and this time it had been awhile... Okay, so let's just get straight to it. Detractors say that Lonni doesn't have the incense, the aromatherapy wands and sprays that some of the other (lesser and slower) waxers have in the Bay. My thought on this, is - wouldn't you rather have a good QUICK waxing experience. I'll forgo all the other added shit... deforestation isn't supposed to be relaxing. After all your hair is being ripped off your body. Lonni is a pro who gets your bits smooth and hairless in half the time as some of the other salons I've tried in SF. And lets face it - no one wants an interminable waxing appointment! Her east coast wit and attitude lend to an entertaining and relaxed environment. She's also an accomplished world traveler, and has incredible stories to share as you lie prostrate on her waxing table. I can't recommend Lonni's Punani Waxing highly enough! read more

I waited a while after getting my work done to see how it would grow out and I'm damn satisfied with Lonni. I'm not the usual suspect when it comes to waxing. Unless you're a close friend you wouldn't probably guess how much I enjoy being totally smooth. Of course getting there is more than half the battle when it comes to taming the male pubezilla. Lonni does it right. I didn't have to offer up any excuses about why I wanted to get waxed, it was as comfortable as a haircut. She immediatley put me at ease. Even though I was spread eagled I never got too embarrassed, that's how much at ease Lonni made me. Her Waxing Technique is FAST. Up one side and down the other before you know it she's done. Honestly, I've never been so comfortable having a complete stranger hanging around my naked nether regions. As long as I live in San Francisco, I will only ever let Lonni rip my angry thick hairs out of my skin. As you can already read, she's fast, efficient and completely no nonsense. Get in, strip down and get on the table and before you can even think, the first strip has been pulled. And even if it didn't feel good, you're too busy talking to Lonni to care. She's so nice and so easy to relate to, and I felt so at home after being in her company for less than five minutes, and she doesn't do any of that new age crap like darken the room, light incense and play mandolins. Her music is great, the atmosphere is awesome and really, there's no way someone can tell me that a "meditative" setting will make me forget that someone is yanking hairs out of my vag. read more

Boys, Search no further - this place is it. Lonni is SUPER fast and she uses the blue wax (which I'm told is better for your nether-regions). My only regret is that most recently I tried someone else at another spa and should have gone back to Lonni. The other place took over twice as long and wasn't nearly as thorough. read more

I am a very hairy woman. as such, Lonni is a very important person in my life. 5 years of waxing ALL the hair from my Yonney, and Lonni's was the best. by far. while I could go on and on and on about Lonni's waxing skills, I shall say only this: there are very few people who can wax that vulnerable and private and sensitive area with such ease. the ten minutes I spend with her just once a month are truly easy. I don't have to use my yoga practice to achieve the right poses. I leave her space amazed that she just ripped every little hair from my nether-regions AND I still LIKE her. Lonni is fast. her space is clean. she is thorough. she is funny and cool and friendly. there's ample street parking. She is popular [for obvious reasons] so call ahead. Given the sorry state of the economy - I thought it was time to give a shout out to the businesses that are still on the right side of my budget's velvet rope. Lonni's Punani is definitely one of them. Lonni has been keeping me smooth and gorgeous for 4 years and counting. SHE'S GOOD -If you want your Brazilian done right, every time, Lonni is your girl. Her Brazilians stand up to close, visual inspection - not braggin' about the proximity of eyeballs to my under carriage - just sayin' - she does a great job. I once tried to rock my Lonni's Punani T-shirt in this town and so many people came up to me, telling me about their silky smooth sexy parts, that I had to discontinue wearing it. SHE'S FAST - I work for a living, which means I don't have time to be hanging out in a bathrobe listening to calming music while some aspiring Gossip Girl extra takes 45 minutes to wax my clam. Lonni is fast, she is professional and she knows I am too which is why she can get me in and out of there in less time than it takes me to pick up a coffee on the way back to work. SHE TAKES CARE OF ME - Lonni has seen my eyebrows through several extreme hair color changes while always keeping me perfectly me. Lonni ripped out all my hair last week and it was great! VERY quick, VERY thorough, VERY professional, and (best of all) relatively pain-free. Compared to every other wax I've ever had, Lonni's was the best. Amen for that! The girl has talent. What I liked most about Lonni is that she made me feel very comfortable, both with her and what she was doing. She even coached me a bit by reminding me to breathe (which other waxers have never done before). Lonni is THE BEST! She's hands down the fastest, yet efficient, waxer! I got lucky finding her at Bryan Roberts Salon & Color Bar in the Castro. She helps them out 2 afternoon a week and the rest of the time she's at her space in Russian Hill. I go to both depending on my schedule. I always thought that the least painful Brazilians were done in small sections, but Lonnie changed the game! When I heard of a girl that does a Brazilian in 5 minutes, I have to admit that I didn't believe it to be possible. The receptionist at the salon swore by Lonni, so I thought why not brave it - it's just 5 minutes. Well that 5 minutes changed my life! Seriously. Thanks to Lonni I stopped shaving my legs and underarms and started waxing them in addition to my regular Brazilians. Waxing has definitely cut my shower time down significantly. I look forward to my appointments with Lonni - she's super friendly, down to earth and easy to talk with while she's waxing. I read the reviews on yelp so I decided to check it out. I am SO glad that I did. It was the most amazing wax experience that I've ever had. She was very nice and friendly. Her conversation really helped me take my mind off of things (for the moment at least) while she did her thing. Lonni really knows what she's doing.
