We stopped here for breakfast during our layover in New York. We were really wanting a fresh new york bagel, but Lord's bagels didn't really meet those standards. The bagels weren't made fresh, so if you are ok with a reheated bagel, then this place would be great for you! The bagels were light and airy, in true new york bagel fashion, but it just didn't have as good of a chew as I would have liked. The bagel could have been salted and flavored more as well. (I got a blueberry bagel and could not taste the blueberry at all). Overall, quaint little bagel shop in Newark that's ideal for a quick breakfast on the go, but I probably wouldn't come back. After an early morning drop off at Newark, I looked on Yelp to find some breakfast. We found Lord's Bagels on Yelp and decided to give it a try. The bagel shop is very cute. They have an expansive menu beyond just bagels - omelettes, pancakes, etc. they also have tables where you can order a the counter and choose to dine in, which we did. I ordered a cinnamon raisin bagel with scallion cream cheese (my favorite combo) and my husband ordered SEC on everything. The bagels are fresh, tasty, and baked with cornmeal. The bagels are softer, not dense or chewy with a light crust. My husband prefers this type of bagel, but I'm more of a dense, chewy, crispy bagel kind of person. My friends and I came here to grab some bagels Saturday morning and I was super happy to finally try this new spot! I got an egg everything bagel with pork roll, egg, and cheese and cheddar jalapeño cream cheese. The bagels were nice and think and crispy on the outside but soft on the inside. I usually get a bacon egg and cheese on a croissant and salt, pepper and ketchup, and it is always cooked to perfection. The turkey bacon is good too although I'm not a huge fan my son is. What a cute space that is clearly a favorite for locals. In a corner storefront that looks like an old house. No parking lot but free street parking all around. So far, upon entry a very clean and well lit area and personnel were very nice. Ordered a toasted sesame bagel with jalapeño cream cheese and a s ode of home fries. Everything was cooked fresh and right in front of you so I can see a little wait if this spot is busy. And by the looks of the area and lack of any other bagel shops I'd say they get busy. We had The Shop - that jalapeno cream cheese was the highlight of that breakfast sandwich! Also tried the Broad Street Special, which was delicious as well. I go to this place all the time. The Spanish young girl is so pleasant and nice to the white people and some of the black men who flirts with her. She is never pleasant at all because they charge for butter when I am always spending over 8.00 or sometimes, 12.00 on a sandwich. Today May 3, 2024 is my last day coming here. It's clear that they're doing something that works for a lot of people. I probably won't be visiting again, however. I came from out of town hoping for a bagel unlike what I can get at home. These were chewy with a tough exterior. Toasting helped, but ultimately, I was kind of dissatisfied. If you prefer your bagels a bit more substantial than the grocery store bakery, these will suit you fine. But the customer service is where Lord's really shines. read more
