Tried this spot during a trip to NJ looking for a good bagel spot for our morning breakfasts. I got an everything bagel with veggie cream cheese and it was great! Independent bagel shops are a treasure, and Sonny's Bagels keeps up this trend nicely. Stopping by on a weekday during my kid's spring break, we got a cinnamon raisin bagel, toasted with butter. While I was surprised to see that toasting costs an extra 25 cents, the portion of butter slathered on both halves of the sliced bagel was enough to make me temporarily forget the added expense. The servers were nice and efficient, and the decor harks back to its longtime presence in South Orange. We were also surprised to find that they're expanding into the space next door, into what used to be a pizzeria, with a brighter ambiance and plenty of seating. We'll be back! read more

So I've been looking for a good bagel spot that opens early and gives my those Bklyn bagel shop vibes. I've been searching for years and I finally found one!! The bagels are small than Bklyn bagels so I was skeptical but once I tasted it I was pleasantly surprised!! It was soft and warm and flavorful!! I ordered an everything with cream cheese. Nothing crazy because this was my first time there. The staff was nice and friendly. There were a couple older gentleman ahead of me on line. And you could tell they were regulars give the rapport they had with the workers there. It was nice to see it made it feel like your local neighborhood bagel shop. Been to Sonny's a handful of times now so I'm comfortable leaving an honest review. Just a disclaimer, I've gotten the exact same Thing every time. Cream cheese, lox, tomato, onion. Clearly they are doing a good job if I returned. Fresh is the key and they have good bagels. I have other bagel shops closer to work, but Sonny's has delivered consistently so I continue coming. Where do I begin? I went on a Sunday for the first time at around 10am and it was packed. The store is dated, with dust bunnies. They really need a paint job but Im sure if they do sadly the bagels wouldn't be this delicious. I ordered 2 bagels with Lox and Cream cheese toasted and I think I died and went to Heaven. Both the Lox and Cream Cheese was placed generously on the bagel. It was toasted to perfection. Crunchy and warm on the outside and soft on the inside. Im originally from NYC so trust me when I tell you I know a good bagel and this here is pretty effin good. When my Husband and I finished I said I think i just found one of my add ons when I host brunch at the house. They have every bagel you can think off. They even have plain mini to satisfy your guilty pleasure. The staff was friendly and fast. The price was $22 for two bagels with lox and a plain cinnamon raisin bagel, which is worth it. However the last few times I went I always get the same young lady taking my order, I watch her laugh and giggle with everyone else but I don't event get a Hello. I went today, when I was next in line she didn't even greet me, just looked, I asked if mini bagels were available she dismissively said NO. My 6am bagel run to Sonny's was well worth it! I purchased a dozen of bagels (they gave me 2 extra) and a container of plain cream cheese. My family thoroughly enjoyed the bagels and even asked when I was going back again! This is a small, no-frills bagel shop located on the very busy South Orange Ave. There's street parking only, so I suggest visiting Sonny's early in the morning before the other stores open up. They have all of the traditional bagel flavors- cinnamon raisin, poppy seed, garlic & more! They also have an assortment of cream cheese flavors to choose from. The two ladies that help me were very nice and friendly at 6am which says a lot! They greeted me with a warm hello as soon as I walked in, and thanked me for coming before I left!! I've totally been missing out this whole time by getting bagels from DD! Sonny's will be my new go-to spot when I'm craving a fresh bagel w/ cream cheese! Yum read more

First tried this place back in December 2022. Bagels are made fresh daily. You know this bagel place is serious when my girlfriend's best friend whose about 2hrs from NJ comes to Sonny's for breakfast. My girlfriend ordered bagels to travel with she's very serious about their bagels also lol. I had a strawberry cream cheese bagel and my girlfriend had the cream cheese chive one. Sonny's is my favorite place to get bagels. It's a small, old school bagel spot on South Orange Avenue. Part of its charm is that it's no frills. You line up, order your bagel, pay, and leave. I don't mean to make it sound so utilitarian; they are just very efficient and good. The ladies are friendly! The bagels are fresh and have a great taste - soft on the inside, nice crust on the outside, are a good size, and taste so delicious when toasted. I go for an everything bagel mainly when I'm here, but they also have a good salted bagel. They have juices in the cold case, which I usually get, and hot coffee. Recently, Sonny's started selling iced coffe, as well. Sonny's is a must if you are in South Orange! read more
