A hidden gem. This place is tucked away near the railroad tracks on Seguin St off I-35, across the highway from Fort Sam Houston. The owner, Ray, is very customer-friendly. The meat- grass-fed, local butcher. Burger was thoroughly cooked, but not dry, seasoned...but not salty. And the onion rings were perfection (sweet onions). Is it a bit pricier? Yes! You are getting a REAL, chemical-free beef burger. Not cookie-cutter, frozen patty, or mass-produced. These are custom-crafted, tailored to your taste...made fresh upon order. Stopped in for a to go order. I had the hankering for a good burger from a hole in the wall place instead of a chain. In a rough part of town, this place looks pretty shady. Walked in and ordered the 1/4 pound cheeseburger, plain, and an order of fries. In good time my order was ready and I was out the door. I got to my car and got right to work. The cheeseburger was very juicy, and tasty. The seasoning seemed a bit off, and the burger was extremely greasy. Overall, not bad. Mediocre. The fries, were another story. Made with fresh potatoes, so you have to eat them hot to taste good. All of my fries were limp, and a lot of them not cooked. I tried to eat a couple of them, but couldn't. Straight to the trash. Not sure I'll go back. That's not to say you will not like it, I'm just saying it was not my cup of tea. You'll have to be your own judge. Wish I was more helpful. Enjoy! read more

Just before the ice storm was going to hit San Antonio on January 24th, I told my wife and son about this place I read about online and wanted to try. When we pulled up the door sign said closed as we were parked along the side of the front door. Just then the owner stepped outside and we asked if they were going to be open, he looked at us with no hesitation and said, "I'll take care of you". He opened his doors and was very welcoming. He was actually closed because the storm was coming and explained that the last time he got stuck due to the roads being closed. We were the only ones there and knew he was extending his time for us, we said we could take the food to go to minimize his time there and he wasn't having it. He said we can relax and take our time eating there as he was going to do some paperwork anyway. He made us the best burgers I've ever had. He explained how the magic was done and the care he put into his food. I've never had such an incredible experience at any other restaurant in Texas period. These burgers were made fresh and had the best quality meat from local butcher's. This isn't some frozen patty spot like the others. My family loved everything about the food and the experience. I want to thank Mr. Perez for taking care of us when he could have stuck to his plan for the day to get home before the ice storm hit. We greatly appreciate the hospitality and amazing food. It was good while it lasted. Been here many times before. Great place, great burgers, great people. However, the last time I was here, the burgers and fries were almost as salty as the owner. Today's employees are unreliable and he found himself doing it all, which gave way to a not so friendly encounter and even less tasty food. The food was so salty and right down non Lord's Kitchen worthy that my tongue felt like a piece of beef jerky.....I should have thrown up.....and as of this note....I might just go in restroom and rid my body of this torture! It had been several years since my last visit, I specifically selected this restaurant to celebrate a birthday at lunch. The food was good, fresh, what was a shame was the host of this lovely little hole in the wall. The host was rude and unbelievably immature for a retired Navy E8. I realize the restaurant industry is a hard business these days this it is most important to garner new and fresh business. The behavior rendered 8 non-returning customers. If you plan to try this establishment, no free refills on drinks, rude and obnoxious service, a crazy ordering system that is entirely obnoxious and unwarranted. I actually found this place with my mom a while ago and I live down the street it's definitely a hole in the wall located by the train tracks underneath the bridge if you think you may be going the wrong way just keep going and you'll find it it's definitely delicious the burgers are yummy I don't exactly like their natural fries they come out a little warmer me for me that is not crispy air there's little softer very soft potato fries but then again fresh fries are still better than process fries so I love the place if you're willing to come by and check it out you should it's delicious I don't have any pictures because this was way before the time of taking pictures of all your food read more

Another hidden Jewel of the Alamo city...hands down puts other establishments on the sidelines. Don't be fooled by the simplicity of the establishment...it is charming...warm and homely. To get to Lord's kitchen you need to find your way around a bridge, under an overpass, and through the middle of a train yard. This concrete block eatery announces in every detail that you are only here for the food. The utility space held about ten tables. And the wall had a few vinyl stickies on the wall. But the most important element of walking in was Ray who greeted us at the door, walked us through the menu, served us, waited on us through our meal, and provided some light and lovely conversation. I took a work colleague with me that I've been trying to have lunch with for over a year now. Lord's has a spartan menu that is dominated by their hamburgers which appear to vary in size only from a quarter-pound burger to a two-pounder. They had a variety of other diner-style food available. You tell them how to fix the burger, I'd prefer for them to tell me how to do it best. But I took it with everything. Price-wise, the one-pound burger meal was $13, eminently reasonable. And of course cheaper for the smaller sandwiches. Due to the rules I've put on myself, I had to get the "Lord's 1 pound hamburger" since it's the name burger. It's not quite as big as it sounds, but I would definitely go for a smaller sandwich next time. It seems to me as though the half-pound version would make a better signature. But that's not my call, so I ordered up the big one. Pam got the quarter-pound version. Our seat had that ever-so-slight wobble of a table loved. And despite how industrial the setting felt, Lord's was undeniably cozy. Our food took only a couple minutes. For a one-pound burger, the plate appeared quite manageable. It was a simple put-together basket that felt entirely inviting. But hefting it was a chore. It came with two patties, was a lot to hold, and tall enough to make you think about how to fit it into your mouth. (I figured it out) Once you crack through the generous iceberg lettuce, the flavor of the meat takes over. There was nothing dull about this flavor. It tasted like a simple salt-and-pepper mix (though I wouldn't be surprised if there was a secret ingredient) but it made the taste of the beef really come alive. But if I'm being honest it fell on the salty side. The grind of the beef was robust and satisfying. But by the end, had grown chewy. The burger was never too greasy, but that seemed largely because it soaked right to the bottom bun, which was virtually disintegrated by the end of the meal. I can't help but wonder if a quicker-to-eat burger would have eliminated some of my biggest complaints. Coming with "everything" included mayo on the top, a slab of tomato, two rings of onion, the aforementioned bouffant of lettuce, a creamy slice of cheese, and mustard on the bottom. The abundant lettuce served to very effectively balance the strong meat. Flavor-wise this evoked the kind of burger your dad would make on the stove at home, right down to the flaky grocery-store-style buns. Lord's kitchen feels like the kind of place traditions are made of. The fries, if you care, were supple, light, flavorful, and a draw in their own right. But my focus is singularly on the burger. This was definitely an above-average burger. I'd even call it a great burger. And if I find myself on the East side looking for an easy and supremely satisfying meal, you can be sure I'll stop back by to see Ray. Excellent greasy old fashioned burgers at a very reasonable price. The burgers are very nicely seasoned, the patties are well per portioned to the bun and they definitely have that nice ooze factor going. All good burgers should have that nice ooze of grease when you bite into them. The fried mushrooms, french fries and onion rings are OK but the burger is definitely the star of this show. First time visit. I must say I was reluctant about going inside. However after entering I felt really comfortable. Greeted by the cashier with a smile and a pleasant attitude. Recommendations were a plus. I decided to try a 1/2 pounder fully dressed. But as I waited I saw French fries come out for another guest. And yes I ordered the fries. I requested my burger to be well well done and to my surprise one of the owners Don came out to double check the request. To me this was a above and beyond gesture. It's been over 10 years since I've been to the this burger joint. The grittiness of the outside is everything you'd expect for a place located next to the railroad tracks and under a bridge. The inside is clean and moderate amount of seating. Nothing fancy, but then again I'm not a fancy kind of guy. They have 1/4 lb, 1/2 lb, 1 lb, 2 lb and 3lb burger. The combos (burger, fries and tea) seem to be the best value. You can substitute soda for an additional fee. The burgers had great taste. I don't plan on returning to this place - First, the possible owner/cashier was taking my order he was rude, and somewhat like a drill sergeant- I was scared to ask if he had any lemon for my tea. Second, my coworker and I both ordered the same thing but one of us had water the other had tea and our total was the same. Third, the price I paid for the burger combo was overpriced, my coworkers and I left still hungry.
