I always like to try a burger place I have never had before. This place was outside of San Antonio and near a gas station. Once I arrived there was parking all around the business and it had a "Old School Diner" vibe. When you walk inside the menu is posted up front and you order through a small window. The dining area was plain and the business was clean. I ended up ordering a bacon cheeseburger with jalapeños. The price was decent and the food came out fast. The presentation was good and the taste of the food was decent. Overall I enjoyed it. I love mom and pop businesses and I am here for it! If I am ever in the area again I would most likely try it out again. read more

Fantastic place that has really good burgers at a good price. There's other things on the menu that I've yet to try. Staff is very welcoming and kinda makes you feel at home. I had a burger in the past but didn't know what to expect when I decided to try the chicken strips. I know to expect good service but the chicken strips were unexpectedly delicious! They're like the ones from the orange and white restaurant but tastier and fresher plus getting to choose fried okra as a side makes them even better. Chicken strips are one of my guilty pleasure meals and Tom's is my new go to place for them. Great little dive for a good burger at a great price. it is the type of burger you'd expect at a cookout. The fries are freshly fried and crispy. There are not many of these places left in town. It is just a good quality burger. Will add it is a thin patty, which I am a fan of. So may not be for you if you like the thick patty burgers. Service is ok, not bad and not over the top. We are always driving between SA and McAllen and always have our fingers crossed that our need for a great burger lines up with the time we will be passing Tom's. It's located just outside of SA along the side of the highway and gives vintage road stop vibes. The staff is friendly and efficient. You, the customer, come in, place your order at the window, receive a number, go sit down and they will find you. Total old school! Seating options are both inside and outside. Inside at 2-4 person booths and large tables. Outside are large tables which are covered. They also have a very busy drive through. We have only gotten the burgers but they have lunch plates that look fabulous. Think comfort food like meatloaf and chicken fried chicken with gravy, hamburger steak with grilled onions and gravy! They also offer some delicious looking desserts and these amazing little apple and cherry hand pies (in the style of the original McDonald's Apple Pie-but way better!) I moved to this area a year & a half ago. When I did I read about Tom's Burgers on Yelp. From that moment I had been trying to get a burger there. Well, I finally drove by & spotted they were open. Let me tell you I did a NASCAR stop when I saw the sign in the window! I grabbed my phone, opened Yelp! & Called the number listed to make sure I wasn't dreaming. I had my pup with me, so I was going to make a to-go order when the lady told me, "why don't you just come through the drive thru!?" I hollered!!!! I zipped around that building so fast! I giggled as I pulled up to their little window. Told them my story of how many times that is driven by hoping to order a burger from them. (I love burgers!) They giggled at me, it's okay, I would've too! Because my excitement level was next level. She handed me a menu & I took a gander at the food. The first thing that blew me away were the prices! Um, how can you make such amazing food at these prices!? Not complaining, just WOW! I ordered a bacon cheeseburger & a family order of fries. (Don't judge me, I love fries even more than burgers & I eat once a day & I had been driving all over TX, plus I share with Fiona. (I also use left over fries in potato & egg breakfast tacos!) Well that burger was absolutely delicious. Perfectly cooked. Very close to the smash burgers my son-in-law makes which I love. The fries were absolute perfection! Oh yeah, I forgot, I also ordered chicken nuggets for Fiona, which she devoured. Great people, excellent food, and the prices are absolutely unbeatable in this day & time. The place is almost like a blast from the past. It's an old timey looking restaurant with a small town feel to it. It's right off the highway! Even with all the foot traffic, the staff is Uber nice. This lil place used to be my go to when I worked down the road at Americold. I was always here ordering the Tuna melt sandwich. The staff knew me and were always kid. The burgers and really everything was delicious. It's been about 15 yrs or so and I finally make it back to the spot since again I work down the road in the other direction. I was excited to go back and order the same thing. I called ahead to make sure they had it and they said they did still serve it. I go through the drive thru for the first time, they greeted me and handed a menu. I said I don't need it. I used to come here so many years ago, I said I would like the tuna melt and fries please. She said well we do serve that but we don't have it today. My hear dropped and I had to order something else. I got a burger and order of fries and a side of tots for my friend and a large sweet tea. She said well don't have tots. So I had to order two fries instead. The service was really quick but the friendliness was gone and it was young people working. They gave me the order and closed the window. As I was driving down the road getting back on 37 I realized they didn't hand me my tea. I didn't turn around because there wasn't a turn around u til after I got on the next highway. I'm really sad as the burger was not good and the meat was dry. My fav lil spot has changed for myself but it is probably great for others. Just not what I remember. read more

When entering this establishment We were greeted by the big guy he shouted welcome to Toms Burgers ! so mediately we felt welcome. Everything that we ordered there was very good the burgers are good size and come with all of the veggies unless otherwise specified .The French fries and onion rings are home made. If you get the combo meal they give you a fried apple pie included .There is no soft drink machine all of the soft drinks are in a bottle like the ones that you buy at the convenience store. They have a standup cooler clearly visible, which displays several different types of deserts, cheesecake, tiramisu and several different pies. I would definitely recommend Tom's burgers. read more

If your looking for a good truck stop diner, give this spot a try. Think Dairy Queen or Whataburger but not as fancy. There's even a Galga arcade in the corner. Awesome The burgers are legit.
