The cleaning itself was fine--but the front office (specifically the so-called "office manager") is an absolute disaster and completely ruined the experience. Because of the accident, my previous dentist mistakenly billed a cleaning the same night, which caused an insurance mix-up and left a temporary balance on my account. It was already being corrected. A simple, routine fix. Instead of handling it like a competent professional, the office manager chose hostility. Getting an itemized bill--basic, standard practice--was like pulling teeth. She talked over me, came in with attitude from the start, and then told me, "It's your bill, you need to pay it now," followed by threats of sending me to collections. This was after I clearly explained the situation, including that the original office had already reversed the charge. Zero empathy. Zero professionalism. Zero interest in resolving the issue. No acknowledgment of the accident. No willingness to listen. Just aggressive, dismissive behavior. Then it escalated. I had my insurance company initiate a three-way call to clear everything up. She immediately interrupted, started raising her voice, and then hung up mid-conversation saying, "We're done." That is unacceptable. That is unprofessional. That is not how any legitimate office operates. I've worked in the dental field--I understand insurance and billing. This was an easy fix. Instead, it was turned into unnecessary conflict. Bottom line: hostile staff, poor communication, and a complete inability to problem-solve. This office lost a family of three over something that should've taken minutes to resolve. There are far better, more competent dental offices out there. Go somewhere else--somewhere that actually knows how to treat patients like human beings.

Came to Dr. Walia for a cleaning/bi-annual checkup. Upon arrival, I was informed she had no…read morehygienist, which was shocking to me. I naively didn't realize it wasn't always standard to have one. The polishing she did was no more than 30 seconds, only to the exterior of my teeth. I was informed I had a few cavities and Dr. Walia scheduled me for an appointment to get them filled. At this appointment, she only filled one of these cavities (it was not intensive, maybe 15 minutes in-and-out) and informed me she'd be scheduling me for another appointment for the rest, explaining that she didn't want to numb both sides of my mouth and risk me biting my tongue. That's reasonable. I arrived for the next appointment. Dr. Walia's assistant (who she actively degraded throughout my first two appointments) was absent and her receptionist filled in. It's unclear if the receptionist had any training... Again, this was a quick appointment: in and out. The cavity was so minor that we agreed not to use novocain. Yet, I was told I'd have to make yet another appointment for the next cavity. This was scheduled this upcoming Monday, despite my frustration with the process. Just wanted to get it over with. Today, I received a call from Dr. Walia herself, asking to reschedule due to staffing. We agreed on a new date and I did express my frustrations regarding the process. We disconnected and I soon received a text and a call back from Dr. Walia, stating she could keep my original appointment. I expressed concern due to her staffing issues on that date and requested to keep the rescheduled time. Dr. Walia continued to push that she could do the filling on the original appointment date, despite previously indicating she didn't have proper help. At that point, I requested she cancel my appointment and forward me my X-rays from the initial appointment via email so I can continue with a more appropriate dentist. I guess we'll see if I even get those... In providing my email to Dr. Walia, she realized she was not speaking with the patient she had thought she was talking to, noting in surprise that I was not a woman named "Julia." I only hope that her attention to detail holds up better in her dental work.

With medical and dental visits, I find that the visit is always either wonderful or horrible. Hard to have an average experience. It turns out, my husband was right, and Dr. Goel was on the wonderful side. I've been to Avid Dental twice now and each visit has been pleasant, painless, efficient, and comfortable. The staff at Avid always greets me with a smile as soon as I walk in and I've never had to wait more than 3 minutes to be seen. They've been very accommodating any time I've had to reschedule an appointment or change the time last minute. Even better, they take evening appointments on certain days so I don't have to disrupt my work day. The hygienists are skilled and are great about getting me set in the room and taking my x-rays. Dr. Goel is clearly a dentist who knows her stuff. She's very thorough and really takes her time during her examination. You never feel rushed by her and she is always happy to answer any questions you might have. She offers so many services and really went out of her way to help me fix my smile through some filings and whitening treatments to get me ready for my wedding last month. My husband has had a few different types of services from Avid over the years and each one has always gone perfectly smooth. More importantly, Dr. Goel's friendly demeanor helps put you instantly at ease. She remembers you personally and you feel like she truly cares about your well being. This office is perfect for patients of all ages and teeth types - whether you're going just for a standard cleaning or if you need some heavy duty root canals, I would strongly recommend Avid for any dental scenario. The only tough part is making the trek out from downtown to Mt. Prospect (though there is an awesome Thai restaurant near the practice that makes me not really mind the drive at all).
