After the dentist that I was going to told me that I needed to have a tooth extracted and replaced with an implant I sought out a second opinion from Dr. Bauer. He is an excellent dentist to go to since he is eager to find the least invasive and radical treatment to solve a problem and save your tooth if at all possible. Have you ever been thrown out of a dental practice?? Called ignorant and had to talk the dentist down so would stop yelling in the face of your 66 year old mother? Well, I can say YES! I have, as of today. Courtesy of Dr. Bryan Bauer at Bauer & Bauer Dentistry and Orthodontics. Let me set the scene: About two months ago, I had bonding put in between my two front teeth to close a gap. The color didn't match the rest of my teeth perfectly, so I went back to have him fix it. He gave me whitening strips to change the color of all my other teeth, and said if i still wasn't happy, to come back in. My Mom, has worked in the dental field for 40 years as a college professor and is the retired program director of a dental technology program in Iowa (the people who make dentures and crowns). I could literally write a list of all her accolades in her career, too many to name. Basically, she knows teeth. She told me in many fancy terms what Dr. Bauer could do to make my bonding look more natural. I asked her to come with me, so she could talk to him herself and we could make a plan. After all, these are my two front teeth! I want it to look right. So today we went in, and she voiced her concerns in a very professional and diplomatic way. He was seemingly open to the discussion at first, but then became increasingly agitated. Saying if he posted my pictures online, no one would even notice the problem. But I noticed. And my Mom noticed. And it cost a lot of money, so I wanted it to be right. He then exploded, saying he would not complete the work with my Mom there and called her IGNORANT for trying to tell him how to do his job. He kept yelling - YELLING - in her face "Get out of my office! Get out of here now!" As she made her way out. He then told me to just go see another dentist. I didn't want to pay someone else for work I already paid him to do, so I stayed and he proceeded to fix my teeth. Afterwards he asked me to never come back again, and said he would cancel all my family's future appointments (there are 5 of us). As if I would ever come back after being treated so poorly. It was so nuts. I have never had such a terrible experience with any professional in my life. read more

I'm the king of worrying and creating my own fear about going to the dentist within three minutes of meeting her followed by an hour and a half scale root planning/deep cleaning I already knew this woman was blessed with natural ability and passion. we all know dental work is not cheap but I'm looking forward to my next appointment with her. Needed to replace a partial. First one they made broke in half within a day. They really tried to make the cheapest piece of crap possible and then begrudgingly made me a duraflex replacement. Convinced me I could use a lower too, but again- made me one that rattled and fit poorly and then didn't replace it when I mentioned it was worthless. Also compelled me to use their loan company that charged $9 fee every time I make a payment. Thats $100 a year AFTER interest. Better than average office. Unfortunately they're scheduling is not very friendly if you work full time. When asked to set up my next appointment (My only appointment there was during a day I was off work), I requested a Saturday morning. They told me that they only do kids appointments on Saturdays. So I asked what their "late days" were .. Well the last appointment on a weekday is at 4:40pm. When asked about this I was told that "we offer Saturdays for school children because its not always easy to get children out of school for dental visits" ... I guess they think its easy for full time working adults to just leave work whenever they choose? Anyways, while this place is decent, I'll never be able to return. Given that my family (3 kids) all want to go to the same place .. I will be searching for a new dentist. read more

Extremely satisfied with my visit for a root canal. I have some dental anxiety as I have had bad experiences at other dentists in the past. Dr. Bauer was very understanding and accommodating when I shared my anxiety. He even altered his treatment to slowly ease me into the root canal. His team was quick and efficient (in a good way) with the root canal and by the end of the procedure I was quite relaxed. Afterwards, he looked at another tooth that I was previously told would need to be extracted. This is quite a bit more expensive and more invasive procedure. Instead of insisting that the extraction was needed, he told me he thinks he can save it. Hopefully that is the case, but either way its great to have a dentist you can trust to look out for your best interests My wife and kids have been going there for years and they've always had great experiences, especially the kids. So I was cautiously optimistic but they still exceeded all expectations. From the moment you walk in, it feels professional and friendly and that positive experience lasts until you walk out the door. My partners's bridge recently came loose and fell out. She contacted her dentist, Dr. Bryan Bauer, at his emergency number. She soon received a text from him, informing her it was "NOT AN EMERGENCY" (his caps) and to contact his office the next morning. The message was rude, unprofessional, and uncaring. I saw it. I also was with her when she called his office, per his instructions, to be told by an assistant Dr. Bauer said she needed to find a new dentist. My friend is a senior, a very kind gentle woman. She was treated unkindly and put in a terrible position. Not to mention the $16,000 implant and bridge she recently paid the doctor, with the understanding that problems would be covered for a year. She found another dentist and paid for the work Dr. Bauer was obligated to do. This practice is considered by many to be sacrosanct in Wheaton, largely due to its charitable involvements. Behind the curtains, It is the little shop of horrors. When I shared the experience on a neighborhood online forum, Dr. Bauer and his wife tag-teamed me on line with accusations of slander and worse, refusing to address this personally. What you have here is an arrogant, egotistical, petulant bully who prides himself on dismissing patients who dare to cross him or question his shoddy overpriced work. The key to a great dentist, is not only the dentist, but the staff. I'm lucky enough to be a patient at Bauer Dentistry and interact with the wonderful people there (how often does someone say they are lucky and dentist in the same paragraph?). From the warm smiles upon entering, to the staff who simply seem to enjoy working with one another, if you have to go to the dentist (and you should...), this is the place to go. And yes, they do go above and beyond - including today when my temporary crown came out and Alexa said "bring him in right away, I'll get him fixed up".
