Stopped on our way home for lunch. My friend had never had Molcajete so we ordered it to share. It came with only three corn tortillas... so I politely asked the waitress for more tortillas. She then brought us three more and charged us $2 ‍ I can literally buy 100 corn tortillas for $2 at Sam's club. I've definitely had better Molcajete. It was ok. My friend really enjoyed it. Just wait till he has a good Molcajete though. Then he'll really be impressed. Overall it wasn't a terrible experience. My advice to the managers of this restaurant: provide a decent amount of corn tortillas with the Molcajete and consider not overcharging for extra tortillas. Honestly if it had came with twice as many tortillas and we asked for more and we were brought another six tortillas for $2 I probably would not have been quite as disappointed as I was with this sad tortilla situation. Also, you guys can easily do better with your Molcajete. Just google it and you will get tons of ideas on how to make it a winning dish that draws people in and keeps them coming back for more. Anyways, not a bad restaurant overall but definitely room for improvement. read more

This is your typical Mexican restaurant. I ordered a combination. The enchiladas come with red sauce so just a heads up. The salsa is good but it's almost like a green chili salsa. It's different not bad. Service was good people are nice and friendly. The beans are tasty so is the rice. This is a good place that will do in a pinch. read more

I guess I'll start with the good things. Our waitress was very sweet and our order was correct. The chips were tasty, but the salsa didn't have much flavor. After that, it all went downhill. The food is at best mediocre. However, I would say that that is an overstatement. I was there with my boyfriend and we both ate in the restaurant. I took leftovers home to my dad. By the end of the night we all had stomach cramps, and spent hours in our bathrooms. Day two was more of the same. Under no circumstance, will I ever go back to this restaurant. Wow been here twice in the last week and this place has flopped. So sorry smells like sewage when we walk in, no one greeted us this last time thank goodness cause the time before this the chicken was over cooked we never got our drinks till we started the lukewarm meal. So we just left after several minutes of waiting on acknowledgment over by staples we were seated immediately and had hot fresh food on the table in less than 20 minutes after leaving this place. I want to say this the tall fella that was running this place before and through COVID was a rockstar. Waitress spilled salsa on our table multiple times, walked away in the middle of us asking questions, and when she brought us our check the book was sticky. Seemed very out of it, and like she didn't care. Food was sub par (+ luke warm) and fried ice cream came out undercooked (how?!). This is one of the better Mexican restaurants in the area. Their green chili has an excellent flavor and and you can order extra hot if that's how you like it. The pinto beans are very soupy so that's a negative. The salsa has way too much cilantro. The service is OK, not too friendly, except for the owner who is very personable. The staff is very nice but overall the food was subpar. If you're looking for bland "American" style tacos, you'll probably love this place.

The three star average was a little misleading. Stopped in on a drive through the area and found the food to be very good! Salsa was fresh with right amount of spice. Extensive menu including breakfast options. Good kids menu. Many molcajete items (including vegetarian). There are TVs for the game. The only thing I think they may have a problem with from time to time is being to busy and not having enough staff. But the team there hustles and gets it done. I found myself in Conifer in need of lunch, and after reading reviews on ALL of the restaurants, I was seriously regretting my poor planning. I was pleasantly surprised by this place though. It wasn't anything spectacular, but the reviews don't do it justice. It's typical diving Mexican food, which I consider a good thing. We just shared nachos, and my daughter got a taco. They were good. We got a lot of food with a generous portion of guacamole and sour cream. Their salsa was amazing! It was almost like green chili, and I covered every bite of my food in it. Free refills on salsa, and it comes in a yummy chip bowl. Good service. Fast and friendly, and the manager even stopped by a couple times too. We've lived up here for a year and tried all the other places nearby so I figured why not. Service was so-so. Slow to refill and check in but adequate. I'm of the feeling you really can't screw up Mexican to much. Best way to describe this was "meh". It was bland, nothing special and aside from writing this I'll never think of it again. I hate to say it but this is a restaurant where you REALLY need to ask for a recommendation or stick to a few items on the menu or you'll end up being very disappointed. I've been back a several times since my initial review and the quality of the dishes vary greatly. If my first time going I had asked for one of their burrito and taco combos, I doubt I ever would have been back. The more Americanized "Mexican" dishes seem to be more bland - and more geared toward bland Colorado tastes. On the other hand, their breakfast dishes, which they serve all day, have all been rather good. I would definitely stick to the green chile rather than the red or "Christmas" them. The red pork tamales are still quite good, though these are served with a green chile topping. If you order this, you will need to directly specify the type of tamale you want as the last time I ordered it, the waitress made a mistake and brought some different pork tamale which I did not like nearly as much. I was most recently there a few days ago and decided to try their carne adobada. I can definitely say it was interesting and unlike any carne adobada/adovada I've ever had, though I doubt I'll order it again. It came as a thinly sliced and unfortunately very fatty pork cutlet of some sort and was seasoned in a chorizo-style rather than marinated in a chile molido. If the pork was leaner, I'd probably have it fairly regularly but the amount of fat made it inedible for me. Only a few bites were actually good and I ended up having to toss the leftovers for that reason. The owners/managers all come from Mexico and I've been told that their food is done in a more traditional Mexican style. This may well be true. I will say that their salsa and a few of their dishes are quite good and it's still my favorite Mexican restaurant on the mountain. My friend always orders chimichangas or their breakfasts and has always been extremely pleased with what he gets. I keep trying different things and am either genuinely pleased or profoundly disappointed. read more

So the service initially is kinda slow, despite a not-so-packed house, and when you're ordering your drinks the waitress tries to flee before you're even done trying to tell her you want some queso... DO NOT EAT HERE IF YOU HAVE A GLUTEN ALLERGY! Worst restaurant experience ever. Pros: None Cons: -Waitstaff was incredibly rude. We nicely notified our waitress that someone in our group had a sever gluten allergy, and she literally scoffed. Then we asked for recommendations regarding items that did not contain gluten, and she had no idea, which is normally fine, but she put no effort in finding out for us. When our food was brought out, guess what was on the salad for the person with the allergy? CROUTONS. So we sent it back and decided to leave and passed by the kitchen to inform our waitress that we don't feel safe eating there as she was PICKING OFF CROUTONS WITH HER FINGERS. -We did not taste the food at all so I can't speak to the quality or preparation. Verdict: As a person who does not have a food allergy, I would never set foot in there again. From the lack of professionalism to the health code violations, I do NOT recommend this place whatsoever. The food is decent, and that is it. Drink order was wrong, waitress was visably upset that I asked her to fix it. Came back just a minute later, same drink dumped into a new glass. The original issue was salt on the margarita, move it to a new glass and now the salt is mixed in. Now she was really not happy. But returned with a new drink. It was horrible. His description was that is was cold, bland and tasteless. I ordered a combo of guacamole tostada, bean burrito and chili relleno so I could get a little taste of several things. First, my food was drenched in a pale orange sauce that had absolutely no flavor, not sure why it was even added?. The food was luke warm at best and I ended up taking one bite of the burrito and chili relleno (usually my fav). Both were well, just plain gross. I just ate the guacamole. Very, very disappointing. My husband and I stopped here on an impromptu mountain drive to Conifer. The sign said "real Mexican food" which is usually a gamble anyways, and we stopped in. The ambiance is similar to most Mexican restaurants only the view was spectacular. I ordered the fajitas and my husband had the tacos rancheros. Low on flavor and big on portions. margaritas were good, waitress staff unfriendly and never asks you if you liked the food. we waited 40 minutes for our drinks and food , took one bite but it was so loaded with black pepper we couldn't eat it, shoved the plate aside and the waitress threw the check on the table. OMFG. Really!!! So you want to charge me for side order of three more 3" corn tortilla so I can finish my $16 fajitas plate, that came with only three of the smallest tortilla's I've ever seen? Really. Let me tell everyone that this place is really a joke, in 30+ years of eating Mexican food all over American and elsewhere, never have I been refused an extra tortilla or more chips and salsa, for that matter than at this hole in the wall. We really should have know better when we walk past a full tavern of people to grace this establishment with out hard earned money only to be treated like we were evading their space and asking just a little too much to finish our meal as it was meant to be eaten. As for the food, well I'm not impressed, rather flavorless, and unappealing, much like the actual pictures for that matter on the menus, which were rather outdated and hard to navigate, but whatever... more importantly this is not a Mexican restaurant as far as I'm concerned and does not deserve to remain open IMHO. In fact, I should add that when we arrived to this near empty place, the waiter proceeded to usher us past all the nice tables in the actual eating area to seat us in the bar where a few locals were chattering at the bar like they were something and smoking no less. Wtf is that - we eventually moved ourselves into the dinning area after waiting 10 minutes for some chips and salsa in the bar area (listening to why god made these upstanding individuals in the first place). I ordered a shredded beef chimi topped with green chile. I enjoyed the shredded beef. It's an option that back in Arkansas we don't have. The green chile wasn't up to the standard I'm accustomed to here in Colorado. The chimi was also supposed to come with sour cream but there was none and they charged me an extra dollar to bring me some. We ate here on a Sunday at lunch time and it appeared there were only 3 tables with customers, counting ours. Not sure why there weren't more there. It was a decent place and wouldn't mind going back but wouldn't be my first choice (especially for green chile). read more

Seriously the only good thing on the menu is the shrimp fajitas. We ordered spinach enchiladas and "smothered burrito" to go today and it was terrible. The spinach enchiladas would have been fine if it weren't for all the raw onions all over the place. The burrito was basically a deconstructed large enchilada with beans and meat inside and sour cream, rice, lettuce, and tomato on the outside. Came here last night with my son. I asked for a queso dip for the chips, but was brought an entire other appetizer. I should have read the menu better maybe, but the price I paid for said queso was insane for what I got. I got a Mexican blend of yellow cheese with canned jalapeños and no heat other than that. I was expecting a side dish of a white queso sauce. At any rate, the cheese was gross for lack of a better word. Like they threw it in a microwave and called it good. No thanks. Clumpy, greasy, stringy melted shredded cheese. Up the par on that, guys. Came here for a more authentic Mexican meal but came in to the place blasting country music of all things. I'm not a fan of mariachi bands, but I like the theme to match the music and it was even awkward to my ten year old. Others at the bar area even questioned the music. Anyway, service was eh. Waitress was personable, but I heart my fajita sizzling and heard the kitchen dong the order up bell about 15 times before the boss man went and ran the food himself. I've worked as a server in the past for many years and there's no excuse to NOT be around on a slow night when your only tables order comes up. Plus it was a fajita that was no longer sizzling when it hit my table. Either way, salsa was bland. Queso was awful. Fajitas were good. Server was nice but could be more attentive to needs of her tables. I won't go back for a while as it rain straight through my stomach and there's only so much of that I can handle.
