I bought a rug from the Los Altos rug gallery. They brought to my house and that was all great, A few weeks later my dog peed on a small part of the rug. The owner came and gave me a quote for $1800 to get it cleaned. Fortunately I went to another rug gallery to check price and got it done in $500. I don't think I can trust him anymore. THIS GUY IS A DISHONEST CROOK!!! PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE POSTING TO LEARN THE TRUTH! All of the positive reviews are by people who have BOUGHT rugs from him, however I went in with a rug to get an appraisal and possibly sell to him! He said that my rug was worth about $2,500, and it would cost about $600 - $700 for some minor repairs and washing. He then said he would pay me $1,000 for it, and when I asked him about consigning it to him, he said that he charges 40% comission, and so after the commission and cost of repairs, I wouldn't be left with more than $1,000 anyways. He kept insisting that I sell him the rug for $1,000, and said that it was a fair price. Luckily I decided that I should get another opinion about my rug before selling it to him, so I asked for his business card and told him I would think about. He got upset at this and put on an attitude, and said that it wasn't right for me to get an appraisal from him and go and sell it to another dealer for $50 or $100 more! He even asked for his business card back from me!! I later found out why! I took it in to another local rug dealer and he told me that my rug is worth between $7,000 - $10,000!!! Furthermore, he was willing to pay me $3,500 for it, or consign it with only a 25% commission, in which case he guaranteed me at least $5,500!!! Also, his repair and washing fee was only $450! I was shocked at how DISHONEST and UNETHICAL Fahim is, and furthermore at his audacity to start acting upset, just because I was not willing to sell my rug to him after the first time I was getting any information and appraisal for it! On my first visit I was in downtown Los Altos with a friend and saw a perfect Suzani rug through the window. I was in love! Fahim let me take it home for a trial and came to my home to deliver a rug pad after I decided to keep the rug. A month later I brought him a very worn but valuable antique rug for repair. He spent an hour with us then just showing us some of the many, many gorgeous rugs. He gave us a lot of info on rug quality and there was never, ever any pressure or sales pitches. The rugs were fantastic and I walked in expecting to not even buy a rug and I ended up leaving with 2. Their customer service style was very straightforward and they handled my specifications very well, and had read my preference with precision. Recently my husband and I visited loss altos rug gallery in order to find two rugs for our living room and our library. We had been searching for the right rug for a very long time and when we entered the store the owner Ahmed was extremely helpful and basically showed us almost every rug in the store in order just for us to find what we were looking for. From the information that he gathered from us he told us that he doesn't have that particular style in the store but that he would continue to look for us and send us pictures until we found exactly what we wanted. Two weeks later he sent us three different photos of rugs that he had allocated from other vendors. He had the rugs shipped to our house so we could try them out to see if we liked them. We wanted to buy a good rug for our living room and we went to a big department store. In summary that experience was not really I want to go thru again. We had to wait quite a bit, the salesperson wasn't really knowledgable about the rugs and the entire process of buying and returning was very cumbersome. In contrast, the experience at 'Rug Gallery' was first grade. Fahim(owner) knows his stuff and has a huge selection of rugs. We were a little overwhelmed at first and could not decide which rug would go with our decor/furniture. We went there twice and tried 10 different rugs in our living room and picked the one we really liked and returned the remaining one. The entire experience was really pleasing and at no point we felt any pressure to buy. Fahim educated us on different kinds of rugs and how to maintain them.
