I shopped at about four other rug stores in Menlo Park and Palo Alto and no one came near this level of service. In addition, there's no way an online rug store could provide any of this excellent customer service. The Oriental Carpet is the only store for superb customer service and stunning rugs!

Like so many others I have had a horrible experience with California Carpets! I wish I had read…read morethese reviews before I did business with them. The salesman talked up "100% wool carpet" and it has been a nightmare since it was installed. For starters it sheds like crazy, even months after install. You have to use a very special expensive vacuum for the carpet which the salesman (MARK) NEVER told us. And now it's hard to believe but the carpet is damaged from a plastic chair cover we purchased to PROTECT the carpet! Believe it or not the plastic over the carpet created some sort of heat and condensation, so the carpet got wet and completely disintegrated. Who ever heard of wet carpet falling apart? And whoever heard of carpet not being treated so it can withstand some water? And no one EVER told us not to put a plastic chair cover on the carpet. We were trying to protect it from rolling chairs and now it's ruined! They took no responsibility. After several complaints they came to our house, took a few pictures and said they would submit a claim with the manufacturer because they are not responsible. They only "install and sell" the carpet but then act like they are not responsible! I kept asking for the status of the claim and they finally got back to me and said simply "claim denied"! I then asked how can I get the carpet repaired because I certainly can't live with this and they have never replied. I'm going to file a claim with the BBB and consumer advocate sites. It's so clear that they completely rip off the customers and don't care a bit about customer satisfaction. They have not heard the last of me.

California Carpets has a good selection, but it's a little like shopping at the Nordstrom rack. You have to be willing to put in the time to look through aisles and aisles of stuff. Ultimately we found what we wanted. The great thing also was that it was on a roll for a very expensive carpet but which was discounted because they only had a few more square feet left. That being said, the edging was not included and was not cheap. Overall, I recommend this place because there aren't many like it on the Peninsula. The staff was professional and they have a good selection. Just be prepared to spend a lot of time looking for what you want. To be fair, I think that's what it would be like anywhere that has a large selection of carpet to choose from.

He repeatedly pointed out that the carpets I was considering were "cheap," and when he mentioned another one was around $4,000, it came with a "well, that's expensive -- what's your budget?" tone rather than an attempt to genuinely guide me. I went in because I'm not an expert and wanted knowledgeable advice, but I left feeling unwelcome and talked down to, which was disappointing given the positive reviews I had read beforehand.

Told us the rugs would be ready in about 3 days and they were. They look beautiful and just like new. What really impressed me is that when my husband picked them up, he noticed a spot on one of the rugs and asked Ali if it could be fixed. No problem. That was on a Thursday and it was ready on Saturday. Ali asked me to call him when I got the rug home to make sure it looked ok and was to our satisfaction.
