Came here because we had been wanting Mexican food and some drinks...After hearing good things this turned out to be an ok place for food and decent place for drinks but horrible place for service as we sent back drinks that were made incorrectly and sent back but were not removed from the ticket....so ended up paying for 2 drinks we didn't even drink! Definitely the worst salsa I've ever had. Tasted like they puréed some tomato and threw a few cilantro stems in it. I could make something better than this at home with Del Taco packets. I didn't think anything could be worse than the sweet salsa with corn I had in Puerto Rico. I stand corrected. It should be a crime to serve Mexican food this bad so close to the border. In the valley where everyone and their grandparents have a Mexican restaurant, this one is popular. Prices reasonable and food is decent. Not top tier cuisine IMO. The interior of the place could use an update. Service is friendly and the owners are very hands-on, But I was here with a business associate and we both ordered the crispy tacos which comes with rice and beans (refried or charro). There was something kinda funky about the flavor of the rice...we both thought so. The place is busy during lunch so it's got its fans. Wow. We went here with a business partner while in town. Big place that's able to dish out pretty quickly to large crowds. I was in the mood for some grilled fajita meat and inquired about the 'small' taco. The waiter pointed me in the direction of the larger one since I was concerned about size. Boy was I wrong! Both are served on gigantic tortillas and the larger one probably had over a 1/2 pound of meat! Let's say there was no shortage of food, or of quality. These two stars are only for their food. In other words the food was amazing. I got two orders of quesadillas and a small soup for my daughter. The missing three stars is based on their service. And not their service towards me. They were very polite to me. Miriam was especially nice to me. The missing stars are because of the way they (the staff) treat each other. Miriam (the lady you see as soon as you get there) the hostess. She was gathering my phone order and I was all set to pay but she needed a pen for me to sign. She looked in her purse and around the desk. She asked two fellow waitresses who passed by if she could borrow one so I could use and they both said no to her. I was like what do you mean no? Then she asked the manager guy. You know who he is if you've been there enough times. Kinda tall chubby guy with glasses. He was sitting at the little table in the front doing nothing but clearly had a pen in his hand. She asked if she could use it and he told her no that he was busy using it (lies). This use to be my favorite restaurant. I always go when I am down visiting, not anymore. The quality of the food has gone down and the prices have gone up. They also charged me incorrectly. I gave them 20 dollars cash and asked that the remaining balance be charged on my card. Well the waiter kept the 20 and charged the full amount on my card. When I tried to speak with manager they were not helpful and unwilling to return my money. They continued to say it was correct on their end even after I showed them my bank statement showing I had been charged. I will never go back again. read more

Los Asados had been recommended so a group of 10 of us went on a Friday night. The chips were greasy, but the salsa was tasty. The fish was dry, or greasy, and got mixed reviews. We asked for crispy (not limp) fries, and they were pale and limp so were sent back. It took a while to get them, but finally the fries were crispy. We had been seated in an alcove, and rarely saw our waiter. Many of us needed drink refills, but didn't get them. Overall, we were disappointed in the food and service. Too bad as we wanted to find a good Mexican restaurant. Los Asados lost our business. read more

After hitting up several Harlingen Mexican Restaurants this one is up on our list. We've been here twice now with amazing service both times. (I swear I drink a gallon of tea there, they are always right on top of refills.) The waiters are always on their game here! Their sweet tea is excellent, highly recommended. Their salsa is amazing, especially if you like cilantro. It is hard to choose between Los Asados chunkier salsa with cilantro or Las Vegas' thinner pasty salsa with that awesome eggplant-zuchini-okra under taste of their secret ingredient. I don't know who gets the "best salsa in town" award, but every where else is pretty mild and flavorless compared to these two. Sadly, Los Asados chips are prepackaged, restaurant-grade chips. I would have preferred a great chip for their more-than-deserving salsa dip. The Mexican Plate is a good sampler, pretty much at any place. The flautas weren't too good. The hardshell tacos were good (best I've had in town so far, but most places seem to not offer this "northern" option). The beans and rice was good. The cheese enchiladas were hit-and-miss. The first time they were kind of hard and tasteless, the second time they were just as good as Las Vegas: like heaven on your fork. A night and day difference, so consistency would be nice! The chalupa was great. The panchos were great. The chicken fajita taco was awesome! Lots of options on the menu. Cheap for the amount and quality of food. Nicer decor than many of the other cheap Mexican places I've visited in town. I would definitely recommend this place over most of the other places in town. We tend to hit this place on Sundays when Las Vegas is closed. As with all the Mexican joints in town, be sure to ask for peppers and hot sauce as they cook to the taste of their youngest and oldest patrons. read more

Delicious from start to finish. Salsa was wonderful. Queso with chorizo so good! Corn tortillas were the best I've ever had. And the spicy fajitas were amazing. The steak was like eating a filet. Growing up in San Antonio and now living in Louisiana I crave good Mexican food. This satisfied that craving :) so blessed to be able to travel here for work and eat amazing food. read more

The food here is always good. Unfortunately, we have cut our visits down to only when we have out of town guests. The reason is that it is way overpriced. Every year they shut down for a week during the summer and when they come back, the prices have gone up. Used to have to wait in line during the lunch hour but no more, plenty of empty tables. Could be they are pricing themselves out of business. I notice that they are now opening on Sundays, something they had never done before. read more

This used to be one of our favorite restaurants. However, we went a month ago and the service was very slow, food was not great. We decided to try again last evening. We sat at the table for over 5 minutes before a woman took our drink order. We then waited ten more minutes for someone else to take our food order. Ten minutes later, my wife went to the bar to see where our drinks were. A few minutes later we finally received them. The food took much longer than usual to come, and when it did come out, mine had charro beans instead of the refried I had asked for. My taco had chicken and beef instead of the plain beef I had asked for. My wife's nachos had unmelted and unappealing cheese on them, and both our entrees were cold. I sent mine back, while my wife ate some of hers, as she had not had time to eat since early that morning. We asked for the check, and received a to go box instead. We will not be back, which is sad, as this used to be a great place with great food and service. read more
