Atole de Guayaba and spicy red salsafor totopos.

Service and food very authentically Mexician. We had the huevos con chorizo and empanadas potosinas- no spice to them but add spicy red table sauce. The atole de guava is Yummy for my tummy especially on this cold rainy day.

This place taste like eating in your grandmas house. It is so authentic and feels like home. I was originally going to cathedral but it was an hour wait and I was hangry. Decided to try this place out that's less than 10 minutes away. I had the enchiladas. I am always hesitant to eat enchiladas at restaurants because they usually are bad. I tried half papa and half chicken. They were both really good. Our waitress was very kind with suggestions. My mom didn't care too much for the special. The down side is that parking is limited. They have a small parking lot in the alley but most is taken by employees. They have street parking. On my way to my car I was able to stop by and purchase the best tamales and pumpkin with a vendor from the street.

Huevos divorciados are a must here! Stop and try this hidden gem in La Villita! They also have stole de guayaba and it was delicious.

BEST MEXICAN FOOD!! We are from Texas but our Chicago family has been coming here for years. We came to visit Chicago so we stopped to try Los Candiles. Immediately we were given a warm welcome and felt like family. The atmosphere is colorful, cozy, and friendly. The food is authentic and delicious!! Something for everyone! From the freshly squeezed OJ to the warm tortillas. Finally, our wonderful server, Giovanna, was AMAZING!! Very kind, personable and accommodating. Cannot recommend this place enough!

This is probably my favorite Mexican breakfast restaurant. I have been coming the last twenty years and always have the same dish, huevos divorciados. The breakfast comes with homemade tortillas. There is nothing unusual with their dishes. What set this restaurant apart from others, it tastes like homemade.

It's soo freakin good! 5 stars all the way!

A tip for anyone eating at a Mexican restaurant, if the chips and salsa are good then the food will also be good. This place is tucked away, it's roomy and decorated with famous Mexican movie stars. Service is fast and friendly, menu is easy to read and understand, prices are very reasonable. The best part is the food is delicious and authentic. Tortillas are hand made and they are delicious, eggs are done perfect and chilaquiles are crispy and not too spicy. Will definitely come back.

Best place to eat when you come to La veinti-seis!! We usually come Sundays after church and have never been disappointed! Coming here after church is my motivation to come to church! Huevos divorciados are my favorite with the chilaquiles! Perfect crunch on the chilaquiles! Great aguas frescas too! Hubby and I look forward to coming here!

stars: 3 or 4, maybe 3,, na I think 4. 3.5 would be perfect. Sunday morning and sister calls asking to go out for breakfast. I agreed but her only condition was that we had to stop at a store first, I gave in. I don't do well when I'm hungry, she should've known that. After a few minutes in the store I started complaining that I was hungry and we just left without getting what she needed LOL. It was a nice sunny, chilly day. We get there and it took a bit of effort and driving around to find parking since there was a lot of people going to the building in front, which seems to be a church. We get inside and to my surprise, it is a nice place, painted with a nice yellowish color. Decent size place subdivided into 3 areas. We ordered the food and I knew exactly what I wanted, enchiladas huastecas. When properly prepared they are awesome. So this is the list of what I tried: Enchiladas huastecas, huevos divorciados, atole blanco and atole de teja. The enchiladas were good, not great but good. They are filled with cheese, chicken or picadillo, covered in red sauce, topped with sauted carrots and potatos, lettuce and avocado, accompanied with black refried beans. But again I compared them to my family's and there are no better enchiladas than my mom's. The eggs were solid good the atole blanco on the other hand, was great, just the way my mom used to make. It is accompanied with polincillo (kinda brown sugar candy for a lack of proper English term for it) One sip of that atole and a bite on the piloncillo immediately transported me to when I was a child and mom would make that for us. I had never had atole de teja but wasn't going to leave without tring it. It is good and do not know how they make it but is made with sun flower seeds. The service was a little slow, but eventually got everything.

Cinco de Mayo at Barrio was EVERYTHINGGG…read more We fully committed to the holiday and ordered honestly the entire menu and somehow every single thing that came out was better than the last. Starting with margaritas (because obviously ‍), queso and chips that were dangerously good, and the chicken empanadas that came out perfectly crispy with so much flavor. We kept looking at each other after every bite like "okay wait... THIS is the best thing here" and then another plate would arrive and prove us wrong again The carnitas fried rice??? I genuinely cannot stop thinking about it. So savory, flavorful, comforting, and packed with crispy carnitas on top with the eggs and pickled onions... literally unreal. And then the skirt steak tacos absolutely stole the show. The steak was cooked perfectly, packed with flavor, and paired so perfectly with all the toppings and sauces. Every single bite tasted fresh and homemade in the best way possible. And can we talk about the ambience for a second because WOW. The music, the energy, the vibe inside, everyone celebrating, the drinks flowing -- it felt like the perfect Cinco de Mayo dinner spot. The service was also AMAZING from start to finish and made the entire experience even better. Appetizers were quac and chips, and shrimp ceviche. The guac was really good, but the ceviche was the star. Served on a bed of cucumbers, it was visually beautiful, and the flavor was fresh and complex. There was also a LOT of it. We ended up taking some home. Entrees were steak and shrimp for me, and Tampiquena for my friend. In both dishes, the steak was done to perfection. The sauce that came with my shrimp was spicy and deep--lots of flavor layers there. Both of us took home portions of our meals because there was a lot of food on the plates. Finally, the service--the servers are attentive without hovering. If we needed something, they were there, but never intrusive. It is hard to believe this is a little neighborhood spot, given the service and the quality of the food. It was not too busy tonight--we ate early--but I recommend reservations. It is very popular with the neighborhood. Bottom line, we each had 2 margaritas, appetizers, and entrees, and our bills with tip were around $105.00 each--totally worth it! Try this little gem--you won't regret it.

Most of the reviews recommended the enchiladas and we ordered a variety of them. The Enchiladas Poblanos stuffed with chicken and cheese. The poblano sauce was rich and smoky. We also had the Enchiladas Morita. They were filled with shrimp and cheese. It was so flavorful and the morita chile added so much flavor. Each dish was served with a side jicama salad. Their special was a shrimp pasta with lobster. It came with full lobster tail. The sauce was creamy and flavorful. It is also BYOB, which is a nice option. Service was excellent, friendly offered recommendations. This is probably one of my favorite Mexican restaurants and highly recommend.

It was a hot, humid day, but apparently it was warmer inside than on their sidewalk seating, so we dined outside. My wife ordered the Vegetarian Torta ($13.75) and I chose the Shrimp Torta ($14.50). Only real negatives were that they did not offer any draft beer options and the Chips y Salsa ($3.75) had a meager quantity of chips to eat their tasty and generous tomatillo and 3-chile salsa options. Would actually go 4.5 stars based on those 2 factors, but gave the benefit of the extra half star due to how good our service was and the excellent flavor of the veggie sandwich.
