Today was my first time trying Los Chapos Tacos, and I couldn't wait to get home to write this review. Now, I understand why so many people love their birria tacos. This newest location in Brandon happens to be their 3rd one. They have 2 other locations in Ybor City and Lutz. I had to try the Mar y Tierra (or Surf & Turf) combo which comes with 1 taco de birria, one taco gobernador, and the queso fondue sauce for dipping. I wanted to try a little of both worlds. I just wasn't sure how big these tacos would be and didn't want to order too much. Well, I probably could have eaten 3 tacos but definitely not 4. Anyway, I'm so glad I got the combo. I absolutely loved both of these tacos. They had so much flavor. What surprised me the most was that the birria broth wasn't salty AF like other places. It was the perfect amount of salt for me. The flavors of the broth were all there. I even sipped up the rest of the leftover broth. It was great by itself. The beef birria taco was fried perfectly and had all that melted mozzarella goodness. The broth just added to the flavors without being overwhelming. The taco gobernador turned out to be my favorite of the two even though I was in love with both. It's like a beef birria taco except it has shrimp. It was a total game changer for me. That melted mozzarella mixed with the roasted poblano pico de gallo was so unique and tasty. The queso fondue was also a winner. So much so, that I placed a separate order just so that I could get some chips to dip in it. I didn't want to waste it. Oh, and the passion fruit drink was also very good. I'd get all of it again in a heartbeat. The location has quite a bit of seating. They wisely added half booth seating along the wall to make more room. The decor is tropical with pink cushion seat bottoms. They have a couple of TVs for entertainment. The staff is amazing! They come over to see how you're doing. I didn't have to go back in line to order extra chips since I had cash. One of the lovely ladies just took it up to the counter and brought me the chips and change. The food seemed to be very authentic Mexican street food. The food was freshly prepared and hot when it arrived. I'm definitely going back soon. read more

Now that it's been open for about 2-3 months (Brandon location) we decided to stop in and give it a try. Place was very cool, with green and pink accents and neon lights giving it a Miami kind of feel. Very clean. Ordered at counter. Employees were very welcoming and friendly. Went with the birria tacos - 1 regular and 1 shrimp. Both were amazing, but I especially loved the shrimp along w the white queso they give you. Absolutely delicious. Crispy. Not too greasy. I've eaten from this location three times and the food is always amazing - fresh, hot and flavorful. I always get the esquites which is always fire but my new favorite may be the chicarrones tacos- the pork belly was so tasty. The Gubernador taco is also very good if you're into shrimp and a lot of melty cheese and the house made verde and red sauces complemented our tacos and steak quesadilla perfectly. The service is always on point with no issues and I'm looking forward to dining in soon versus a pick up order. read more

This small restaurant is located in a Brandon strip mall, convenient with plenty of parking and indoor seating. Our first visit was met with a nice clean interior and decoratively pleasant ambiance. We walked right up to the counter to place our order. Based on previous reviews, I ordered the Tacos De Birria and hubby got a burrito ($1 upcharge for steak). My 2 tacos came with birria broth, perfect for dipping the tacos in (trust me, this is a must with this particular taco variety!). The tacos were amazing! The "not your typical beef stew broth" and cilantro mix was incredibly delicious, definitely surprised me how good it was. My hubby's carne asada burrito was also tasty, receiving a two thumbs up from him. The burrito did come with a side of tortilla chips, but no dipping sauce. No problem, the table already had a green and red sauce to add if wanted. The tortillas were ok, not bad. The sauces were nice, and hot and mild option... in addition to the chalua. While we've been to quite a few Mexican spots in the brandon area, I have to say this was the best tasting to date. Service was friendly and our order came to our table quickly. I did see quite a few pick up orders while we were waiting, and that gave me a good hope that this was going to be a yummy dinner. And it was! So the answer to the magic question would be... oh yeah! Went at lunch time and shared an order of queso with two tacos and a quesadilla. Perfect for two of us. We tried the Al pastor quesadilla- it is pineapple with pork which I found lovely but you have to like the sweeter meats for this one. We went for carne asada tacos - solid street tacos with just onion and cilantro. Queso portion is a bit small - was ok for lunch and two of us but would need a lot more if the kids were with us. If you know Mexican food this is no where close. Tried this place today and was not impressed. My partner is Mexican and was disappointed in the food, this is not original Mexican food, he ordered tacos and some of his tacos came with mayo (what?) and i ordered Birria and the broth had cinnamon which over powered my food.
