This place completely exceeded my expectations! We started with the trio of salsa, guacamole, and upgraded to the chorizo queso--and every single dip tasted fresh, homemade, and absolutely delicious. For my meal, I had one carnitas, one shrimp, and one carne asada taco. The carnitas were my favorite, followed closely by the shrimp. The carne asada was flavorful too, just a little oily, which was easily fixed with a quick dab of my napkin. My boyfriend ordered the Skillet Rancheros with chicken and shrimp, plus a chicken taco, and loved everything. The skillet reminded us of a unique twist on fajitas and was packed with flavor. The homemade tortillas really stood out--you can tell everything here is made with care. Our server was incredibly friendly and attentive, the restaurant was spotless (even the bathrooms!), and the dining room was bright, welcoming, and adorable. They also have a great drink selection, including beer, seltzers, margaritas, and sangria, which we'll definitely be back to try. We left full, happy, and already planning our next visit. Finally tried Boda and I am a fan! The atmosphere is super casual, but their music playlist is all the atmosphere you really need! Our oldest son couldn't stop getting out of his chair and dancing! I ordered a delicious horchata drink and the three taco combo so I could sample several of the tacos on the menu. I ordered the carne asada, carnita, and pastor. They were all very good and I loved the purple corn tortillas. The portions were large enough that I think I would only order two next time. My husband's birria tacos were huge, messy and delicious. I'm embarrassed to say that my boys aren't huge fans of Mexican food other than chips and guac or salsa or queso. I don't know if it's the seasoning and the combination of textures and flavors that they resist. Unfortunately there are no alternatives for picky kids since the kid's menu is quesadillas, enchiladas, and tacos. We convinced my oldest to order a chicken quesadilla and he ate about half of it, but my stubborn youngest son just at chips and guac for dinner. I was visiting the area and stopped for lunch. First impression, I like the themed decor and the good Latin music constantly playing. This location also has several TVs on the walls playing sport games. We started with a Caldo de Res (Beef Soup). Yum! Just perfect. Generous portion. Enough for two to share. Then we ordered a Pick 3 Taco order. It included a Carne Asada (grilled beef), Pastor (marinated pork) and Chicharrón (crispy fried pork & skin) tacos. The food is well seasoned and very tasty. This restaurant is a must try! Everything is made fresh and with care. There is a sign when you enter that says "Food is medicine" this is so true. Food is for comfort, makes you happy, and does your body good among other things. This restaurant cares about that! They make their tortilla in house, why are they red you ask? They use everything and try not to be wasteful and explained that the red comes from the water they use for beets. This water is then used for mixing the corn tortilla batter.. how awesome is that! The ingredients are something that matters to them and it shows in the taste of the food. This is not artificial flavors, but more authentic with foods natural taste. It is clean eating. We had the Barria Tacos and they were moist and cooked perfectly. The side of consume that comes with it is a perfect companion. Would definitely order them again! The trio of guacamole, salsa and queso is a great way to try all three. They each compliment each other and the chips were thin and fresh. The guac was made with two types of onions ( white and red) it was yummy, but the onions were a little too much for me personally, I still would order it again. They make nearly everything in-house--including their tender tortillas tinted red with a little beet juice (a cool touch). My family and I checked out Boda on a Friday night while running an errand in Tampa. My pregnant wife was craving chips and salsa and this place looked new and really good. We started with the Boda trio. Fresh, thin and crispy chips that came out warm accompanied by three bowls to dip them in. A fresh guacamole, salsa ranchera and salsa de queso. The guac was good, it had chunks of avocado in it and had great flavor. The salsa was fresh and zingy, bursting with flavor as well. The queso was decent. We felt it lacked a little flavor but our daughter loved it and I am pretty sure she finished that. What was nice is the dips outlasted the chips. For dinner my wife ordered the Birria Borracha. Two fresh corn tortillas that was filled with shredded short ribs fresh pickled red onion and cilantro. My wife enjoyed the dish. The red corn tortillas were dipped in the sauce like birria usually us. I ordered a deal they had for three tacos. I got the pastor, the carne asada and the chicharron. All three were filled with plenty of meat and colorful toppings. Not overly stuffed, they were manageable and well priced for what you got. My favorite being the carne asada. The sliced ribeye was tender and the veggies added a nice crunch. The fried pork belly was decent. I felt the meat in that one got lost in the toppings. Hidden Gem in Tampa! I stumbled upon Boda while in the area and saw a sign for $3 happy hour beers; had to check it out! From the moment I walked in, I was welcomed warmly by the staff and even the owner. Prices were super fair, and the al pastor taco blew me away. It came on a homemade corn tortilla that they color with beet juice for that beautiful magenta tone; the owner explained it actually enhances the texture too! I really miss the food I had in Mexico, and this is the closest I've found in Florida. The spicy hot sauce they recommended was fantastic, and even the salsa that came out complimentary was full of flavor. This place just opened and we were intrigued to try. Came in during lunch and greeted upon entering. Staff were super friendly. Even the owner spoke to us on several occasions. Nice open concept restaurant with plenty of seating. It appears they had a drive thru also. I think they are still working out the kinks and have some improvements to go to get it right based on our experience. My friend and I both got the enchiladas - I got the suizas which is shredded chicken and she got the vegetables one. We also got the in-house brewed hibiscus tea and the chips and salsa. I have to say that the tea and chips / salsa were the major highlights of our meal because the enchiladas sucked. And for the pricing point I'd expect much better! As you can see from the pictures they were swimming in sauce. And the sauce was watery and lacked flavor. Lacked that "authentic" touch. Was more of something I'd expect from a jar rather than homemade. Her vegetable enchiladas, the vegetables weren't even cooked fully nor were they cut down to sizable pieces to eat. They did remake her enchiladas and it was slightly better but still not quite right. They were soggy and sort of gross after a while. I paid $32 for lunch! AMAZING! So happy to have tried Boda before it inevitably becomes packed. I went during their soft opening and was privileged to chat with the owner, Andres, who told me all about the concept. Boda is Mexican restaurant with a scratch kitchen, where the only canned item they have on their shelves is sweetened condensed milk. All spices, sauces, etc. are fresh and made in house. This includes the tortillas, which are red from the addition of beet (it does not impact the flavor at all, if beets aren't your style), and the tortilla chips, which are so light and crunchy that I convinced myself they were healthy. While there are no dedicated servers, Arlene behind the counter was very excited to answer our questions and help us place our order. Our table shared a ton of food and went home with pretty great leftovers. For appetizers, we had the guacamole and salsa. Both were fresh, flavorful, and so delectable that we devoured them both without taking photos. The table was surprised at how many snacks we enjoyed without feeling weighed down or gross. The freshness and quality of the ingredients really came through. For entrees, I had the chicarrons taco and pastor taco. The tacos were generously portioned and like everything else, tasted very light and fresh. The char of the pineapple gave it a wonder smoky flavor that complemented the pastor marinade. The chicarrons were super crunchy but didn't taste oily like other fried foods. I normally prefer flour to corn tortillas, but Boda is the exception. The tortillas were soft, slightly chewy, and help up their filling without breaking easily. Neither taco was spicy but both paired well with the hot sauce that was available on every table. One person I was with had burris tacos. Ahe raved about the consommé and was impressed with the portion. Another person had the enchiladas suizas at the recommendation of Andres and was in awe of how balanced the flavors were. For dessert, we shared the churros. 3 come in an order with chocolate caramel sauce and whipped cream and were the perfect portion for our party size. While we loved the them and their abundance of cinnamon sugar coating, we wished the chocolate caramel sauce came on the side instead of under the churros. Boda is located on N. Dale Mabry between Denny's and Mister Car Wash. If you put the address in your maps, it will take you across the street to Riveters, so for now it's best not to rely on your phone to get you there. The tortilla chips are crisp and fresh and the dips fresh and flavorful. I enjoyed the guac with what tasted to me like red and white onion, although I would throw in more fresh jalapeño but I realized most don't opt for jalapeño like I do. (I like them in my margaritas and my coronas.) We then tried an order of birria. The plate came with two (wrapped in fresh beet-soaked corn) tortillas which had my attention and did not disappoint. The meat was very flavorful and tender with just the right amount of flavor. I was informed that the owner is mindful of clean eating which I really appreciate. Al Pastor Taco - meat was heavily flavored with what tastes like cinnamon but not much of anything else. Pineapple was fresh, abundant and prob the best thing on the taco. Chicken Taco - flavorless.... Tamale - it's not made with mesa. It's more like creamed corn that's molded inside the husk. The added carnitas topping was very porky tasting with little other flavor noted. Not for me. We have lived in Chicago , CA , and Texas and I must say - this is some of the best Mexican food that we have ever had. The only suggestion that I will make is that seeing how they decorated so cute , if they could enclose the front patio and put a fountain out there and make it cute and kind of private. First time here, just popped in for lunch. The place is bright and airy with some Dia de los Muertos decor, but is still being renovated as per Chelsea the nice server. Heads up: if you want chips and salsa, you have to order and pay for them. Also they only serve beer, no liquor. They do have Mexican Coke (yum). And they serve black beans only, not refried beans as we know and love. I had the Chips & Salsa de Queso which was a bit bland. I normally always add a few spoonfuls of salsa to my queso, but I hadn't ordered chips & salsa ($4.99). Their chips are very good, thicker than usual and not too salty. I saw Enchilada Mole on the specials menu- whaaattt?!?! It's rare to find mole in Tampa and it never meets my exacting standards. I'm extremely picky about my mole since I first had it in Oaxaca (birthplace of mole) but when Chelsea explained it was house made with 28 ingredients, I knew it was going to be something special. It was INCREDIBLE, a little bit thick, chocolate-y with hints of cinnamon and almonds, not too spicy. My only comment is I would have preferred all white meat chicken in my enchilada but it was still outstanding. I had to try their churros with chocolate sauce for dipping. The churros had way too much sugar on them, though they were nice and fresh. Biting into them made a big mess and it made them too sweet. The dipping sauce I received was kind of hard, not very dippable. I should have complained and sent it back but I scraped it up with a fork and slapped it on the churros. All in all, Boda seems pretty real, from the few things I ordered. The (Mexican) couple at the next table asked me how liked the mole and I asked them how they liked their guacamole (they said it was very good). True Mexican food as served in Mexico is not real spicy, and can almost be a touch too mild but then in Mexico, they'll have 5 types of hot sauce on every table. Boda doesn't have hot sauce on the table, but they have a cute chalkboard describing all their salsas (sauces). So yes, I'd say Boda is pretty autentico! I'll be back. read more
