Craving Mexican and we always go to the same place, so thanks to my handy dandy Yelp search came across this little joint near Lafayette Square. So far, very good service. The only thing i HATE so far is the ridiculously loud music. We ordered some queso with chorizo. One of my favorites after a little place in chicago. Roger had a margarita - muddled- they don't use a crappy sour or margarita mix. It was very tasty. I ordered poblano enchilades. Somehow missed that it was covered in mole sauce - not a fan of mole sauce. Didn't care for it much, but really because of the mole sauce. Poured the hot sauce on it and it was better. One of the worst margaritas I've ever had, even after ordering a shot of tequila & dumping it in. (I guess I should have known better, given that margs are not even listed anywhere on their menu.) The food, however, is totally legit. Chilaquiles is my favorite breakfast, and my husband, 7 yr old, and I all had them. Delicious! (Beware, though, if you get the hot & spicy ones, they are NO JOKE! We could hardly eat them, but will die trying.) I'm not a huge fan of refried beans, but these were so good. The chips were stale and nothing special, but both the red and green salsas are great, and remind me of some I've had in Cabo. Visited when this first opened and it was great. Fresh margaritas and good food. Visited yesterday and the place was practically empty. And I know why. We ordered chicken fajitas and beef tacos. A fairly basic order that was ruined in the kitchen. The ground beef was burnt, the chicken was a rubbery alternative to meat covered in cumin, and the refried beans were flavorless mush. I visited for my second time this evening and had the fish with the first choice preparation (I cannot recall the name). The flavor profile was unusual as it was delicious. Very unique and tasty. The look from the outside is nothing like what you would expect inside. I don't know if I have ever been in another restaurant that has been as immaculately clean as this one. Seriously, so clean that you notice immediately. Most eateries are clean enough that you do not notice anything out of the ordinary. Los Chilaquiles was so clean that I might have considered observing the 5-second rule there. :) The service we received was excellent, but our server was the owner so I suppose it is to be expected. The food was excellent, full of fresh and vibrant flavors. The guacamole may be the best in the city. Our drinks never went dry and the service was attentive without being pushy. I've been going to this place awhile now off and on and have always enjoyed their presentation on mexican cuisine. Being on the west side of Indianapolis, with so many different options in mexican food I admit it's tough deciding where to go. Finally, I got to see the new location. Very spacious an immediate improvement over the old. No more fending off city construction to enter the parking lot. Let's talk about the food... I've always enjoyed the great Panela Sopes (a recommendation for vegetarians) and for meat dish the Tampiquena never fails to impress with it's flavor. Enchiladas verdes is another one I can always return to. The menu features more adventurous fare for those willing to give a chance. The restaurant has niche audience for those seeking something different than a Tex-Mex style. The new location features a bar too for those dining alone or who just want a drink after work. I must say I do miss the original salsa they had when it was Los Girasoles but the salsa verde is great too. Perhaps they might bring it back someday? read more

Great place right off the highway. On our trip back from Florida, we were looking for a place to eat. While driving in Indianapolis, we have attempted few times to get off the highway and look for a place to eat. Well it turns out that have ended up in very shady areas. Quick U turn and back on the road. Then we came across this place. I must admit, looking from the outside, tinted windows we didn't know what to expect. But, once we stepped in we were taken back by the friendly and cozy atmosphere. It looks new, clean, and staff was amazing. We had two types of Chilaquiles, and they were out of this world. I would strongly recommend this place when you are driving by or live in the area. Situated right off the highway I found it very convenient, quick service, and great atmosphere. Stopped here on a road trip for a to-go order of rice, beans, and tamales. Usually a pretty quick order so we sat at the bar and waited for it to come out. The woman who took my order was super salty for some unknown reason, but I understand it sucks to work on 4th of July weekend so I don't think that's super notable. The other servers were also pretty rude, but that's never deterred me from a restaurant so whatever. However, the order took 35 minutes to come out and when it did, the refried beans were packaged in a flimsy takeout container that subsequently spilled all over my friend's car when I opened it. Also it was $25 for two sides, an appetizer of tamales, and a beer that my fiancé ordered while we waited. All that to say, save your time and money and just go to the Indian place next door. We came in for dinner on a Sunday afternoon. The restaurant wasn't busy but there were a few other diners. Our waitress, Eugenia, was excellent! She was friendly and very efficient. This place is very good - feels a little step above the generic neighborhood Mexican restaurant. Full bar, two salsas and sour cream with your chips, and a nice menu with a lot of options. Puerto Vallarta is right up the street, and seems much busier, but I think Los Chilaquiles is a little bit better. They also have breakfast, which looks interesting, and there are not too many local restaurants serving breakfast in the near-Eagle Creek restaurant. read more

Large modern restaurant with high ceilings and lots of flat wall area so the noise level is high with much of a crowd. Wait staff was friendly and prompt. Food was very good, perhaps not Mexico Mexican but excellent Tex-Mex. Our orders arrived in average time considering the fresh ingredients. Portions are at least ample if very hungry. The atmosphere is a bit stark for my taste and not the most romantic but for very modern Mexican, it does well. Well done posters of well known Mexican artists hang on the wall. We have been to Los Chilaquiles three times now, and have yet to be disappointed. The food is truly excellent -- some dishes have spoken to us more than others, of course, but it always delivers. And for the price? It's a little unbelievable. If you like margaritas, note: THIS PLACE DOES NOT CURRENTLY HAVE A LICENSE TO SELL HARD LIQUOR. The margaritas are delicious, but you won't get a buzz. If that's important to you, order beer. Also note, if you're a gringo like me who is mostly accustomed to the usual fare (tacos, burritos, etc.), you will see some unfamiliar options on the menu. They don't have descriptions, so you'll either have to look it up or ask your server. Be brave! Everything I've had there, familiar or not, has been delicious. Another reviewer said she didn't like the fundido because it was thick, stringy and hard to eat. Heck yes it is, and it's delicious! But if that's not your thing, they offer the same dish with a runnier cheese. Just ask your server. It's delicious both ways, but we prefer the thicker cheese -- if you've had the cheese dip at Alcopoco Joe's, you're familiar with the texture. This place is worth a drive across town, and a pity to miss if you're nearby. read more

This was our first time here. The place is very nice and clean. The salsa was good and tasted very fresh. My wife and son had enchiladas, my daughter had shrimp fajitas, and I had a spicy beef dish that I can't remember the name of. We all loved the food. The service was not great. The server didn't seem all that interested in us and a couple of times we had to ask more than once for a refill. I received a single portion, without the white qeso cheese nor limes. I called back and of course no one there now understands ENGLISH! We just ate at Los Chilaquiles and had a wonderful experience! The food was authentic Mexican and some of the best we've had in the area. I had the chicken flauta dish which was served with flavorful rice and beans. It was delicious! My husband opted for the alambre o brocheta which is a Mexican style meat skewer with bell peppers, onion, bacon, and plantain. He'll definitely order this again! We finished off our meal with flan de cocoa which was the best I've ever had. The flan was drizzled with chocolate and caramel sauces and was presented beautifully. We can't wait to come back and try some of Los Chilaquiles' other dishes! PS: The price was right, too! read more

Breakfast, lunch or dinner, this is my favorite place to gobble up simple and delicious Mexican food. The service is friendly, accommodating and efficient. The food is fresh and made with care. The environment is casual - it's not expensive food - and clean, with fun over-sized loteria cards decorating the walls. Recommended dishes: - any of the chilaquiles - really - any of them. The mole poblano and verde (tomatillo) sauces are especially good. - the sopes & gorditas - these are the best sopes I've had outside of Mexico, topped with their perfectly barely pickled onions and served with green rice and beans. I get the beans & cheese and smile with each bite. - the rice pudding - creamy, with just a hint of spice. - the molletes - toasts with all kinds of toppings. When we ate here with a group once, the owner brought out both the sencillos (beans & cheese - yum) and the jam-cheese molletes - slabs of bread covered with various options and toasted. They were both quite good! - the juices - the carrot juice is so fresh and bright and it will maybe make you feel like you're eating a healthful meal (even with the chilaquiles). - the little plates of yum - toasts with bean-butter and jam in the morning or the salsa and friend tortillas at dinner - that they bring out before your meal. So many places are lazy with the freebie bites, but these are extraordinary examples of the lovingly prepared food that they serve after you order. For me, what's best about Los Chilaquiles is that I smile a lot when I'm there. The owner makes me smile, with her enthusiasm and her vibrant personality, and the food makes me smile, because each little bite is full of great flavor. read more

I give this place a " high five". I've been there twice the food and experience was great. I just moved here from Arizona where Mexican food is plentiful. I have to admit Chilaquiles is better than most places I have been to. Great recipes and more than a few hard to find items on the menu like authentic Mole, paella, or how about a michelada, (Mexicos version of a bloody beer). It looks and tastes genuine not to mention the place is clean, I always check bathrooms and floor in a restaurant that I feel are worthy of returning to regularly. Not as Americanized as some reviews have posted. They serve actual pepper and tomatillo salsa with the chips that were very tasty. The horchata was available and very good. I had the chicken mole and even though the waitress forgot my tortillas, the mole was very flavorful, and what I would expect. My hubby had the gorditas. He said they were the best he's had in the Midwest. We have a hard time finding good Mexican food. It's not so good that I would come to Indy just to go here, but if we are in the area again, we would go back. read more

Excellent chilaquiles! The restaurant is never busy when we have been there for breakfast. The sauces are all delicious and of varying levels of heat. I particularly like the habanero salsa as I like spicy food. I have not been in during the evening hours so I cannot attest to how loud or busy they get. All the times I have been there with my family we have been the only gringos so that is a good indication of their authenticity when the place is frequented by Hispanics. If you are looking for something other than a chain restaurant burrito or chimichanga definitely give them a try. read more
