We are locals that used to come here regularly several years ago. However the owners horrible attitude and the charges for a glass of tap water drove us away for years. Decided to try them out and see if there was any improvement. The waitstaff was slow, but friendly. The beer was very good. Beyond that, it was probably the worst restaurant experience we've had in a loooong time. The 'salsa' that came with the chips was just a basic bowl of unseasoned crushed tomatoes. Serious.....there was NO seasoning in it at all. We had to add salt from the table and hot sauce in order to even consider it as a dip. The one mixed drink my son ordered was so horrible we couldn't even stomach it. It literally tasted like chemical cleaner in cheap koolaid. Manager refused to take it off the bill. All our food was cold. Two other groups got up and walked out in the hour we were there. Guess we'll need to give them another year or two and check again. read more

The food was good for basic Mexican fare. There were only two servers working so they took a few minutes to seat us although it was 7:30 pm and there was not many people there. The prices were decent, but they charge $.75 for a cup of water and $.75 for a cup of ice. We were told that when we went to pay. We waited 20 minutes til someone came and even acknowledged us due to me getting up and asking .The service was awful, she had the worst attitude, didn't care , our food was so cold my fajitas didn't even sizzle . Best taco de pescodos I have had in awhile. Found this little gem of a authentic Mexican restaurant kinda by accident, man am I glad! Stopped in while traveling. Ordered chicken enchiladas with salsa verde. The food was so spicy it was beyond edible. As soon as the food hit your palate it was immediately engulfed in flames. Think of flame breathing dinosaur. The manager initially refused to remove it from the bill even tho it could not be eaten. The manager eventually allowed us to switch the fire dish for something different. The manager refused to come speak with us. Instead he sent the waitress to send his messages. I felt really bad for the wait staff. Manger seems like a real peach! We have a baby, ALL the baby products were broken. The high chairs were much too low for the table and missing the straps, our little one was climbing out of the high chair during the entire ordeal. The diaper changing staton was also missing straps. This place used to be pretty good, I'm not sure what happened. It's honestly been years since I've been, but most Mexican restaurants I've known in my life are typically family run businesses that stay in the family, where this place didn't seem to have a Latino working on site.. which wouldn't so much matter if you know how to prepare Mexican food, but these folks really don't. To start, the salsa looks and tastes like a can of diced tomatoes with hot sauce in it. The steak tacos were okay, albeit oddly seasoned and prepared. The meat looked like it was tossed in queso cheese. No real complaints about that, I'd just never seen it before. I had to ask for cilantro and onions which typically come along with flour tortillas in other restaurants, but not this one. The beans were dry, flavorless, and were likely out of a can. It still wasn't the worst Mexican food I've ever had, but pretty close. And I was shocked by the price! $35 for a few tacos, rice, and beans. Not sure how a little fakey Mexican place down here in South Ga can get away with that since I can order the same things from a dozen authentic restaurants in Atlanta for just under $20, and the taste and quality is amazing. read more

I think the reviews are a little rough for the price point. It could also be changes made since the last few reviews. We stopped while traveling and had really decent and cheap food. The food came out quickly, hot, and pretty well seasoned. It could be the timing at night with less people to serve and less wait time for the food. The service was great, the waitress brought everything we asked for quickly. At first when we came in the ambiance seemed a little unwelcoming until we sat down and started ordering. For a party of 3 and a $50 tab, there's not much more to ask for. The place seemed a little old but I didn't notice anything dirty. The bathroom that everyone talks about, was clean, and the only thing out of place was the roofing tiles being dirty in there. The water did have a weird taste, more than likely tap water in the area. Overall, if I'm traveling past, I will be back. I recommend it for people looking for decent and cheap Mexican food on the go. If you're looking for a lively place this is not for you either. read more

In town for few days on business and definitely a lack of choices to eat at unless you like fast food. Terrible manager, sits at table in bar and does paperwork. Apparently the girls that work in the bar can only pour beer and house margaritas. Anything other than that, they have to ask the manager and he acts totally put out to get up and make a drink. Barely enough Tito's to make a drink, however he shrugged it off and poured it anyway, got an old bottle of flat tonic out of refrigerator and was aggravated when I wanted him to get a new bottle. He poured it and plopped it down without saying anything and walked off. Totally the rudest manager (using that term loosely), that I have ever seen. Place is filthy. I'm not quite sure how to rate this restaurant, because the food was very good and the (Texas) margaritas even better. But.... We stood at the cashier/host stand for about 5 minutes, essentially ignored by everyone except one harried wait-staff person who promised someone would be with us in what turned out to be a very long minute. Then another wait to "clean" a booth. If you're cleanliness standards are not exacting, your rating might be higher than ours. We had to ask for chips and salsa (both good if unexceptional) when our drinks came. Of course, that's kind of a blessing for us, because we tend to think chips/salsa is its own food group. But I was able to spend the extra time building up a fly body count. Again, however, when the food quickly arrived after we placed our order, it was hot, well-prepared and tasty (although it may have been the toughest chile relleno I've ever tried to cut). Social distancing protocols were more accidental than intentional, because the place just wasn't really busy, especially for a Saturday night. However, it's always a plus when you overhear conversations in Spanish at a Mexican restaurant. I offer these criticisms not to turn people off but to perhaps to spur some improvements for future customers. It won't matter to us, because it's unlikely we'll stay in Cordele again, certainly not anytime soon. read more

Gina was our server and she was awesome! I had the chicken fajitas which comes with rice and beans and a guacamole salad. The guacamole was fresh and the rice and beans well seasoned. The fajitas were perfect. Not overly seasoned but just right. My dad had the chicken chimi changa lunch special and it was crispy and delicious! Also their chips and salsa were a total #MOOD! Ordered non alcoholic drink and we got an alcoholic drink....ordered only chicken dish making sure no beef or pork was in it...and we got steak and chicken...Our waitress was good. When the manager came up He should approach us in a professional manor....Instead he came up in a very hostile way asking "whats wrong with it?" He took the dish with steak and chicken in the back and removed the steak and gave the same dish back. Really unprofessional... Okay so I have eaten here many times since I was a kid. As of late, we've been hitting up El Girasol because we had vowed not to go back to Los Compadre's. Well we decided to go back because my sister had eaten here recently and said the food has gotten better. That was no lie. The food was pretty good. I have had better but in terms of Cordele its pretty good Mexican food. I got the house special, which is the closest thing I can get to what I normally get back where I live. However, the service was sub par. The booths were scrunched close and it was getting a little claustrophobic up in there. I can't speak for the other booths but that's how ours was. Our waiter looked as if he was forced to be there. He was not rude, but rather bores with us. The chip basket and sauce cup (not bowl) was small and it needed refilling. It seemed as if he had forgotten about us at one point. But the food made up for that once it was brought to us. But then, the bathrooms were gross. Water all over the floor and it got on my sister's foot. Not cool, bruh. The food was so good, but the service wasn't. It's just too bad because its such an easy fix. read more

Had trouble with a tire and had to stop to try and get it worked on. Almost 8:00 PM on a Friday evening and all the tire shops were closed. So I decided I better spend the nite. This place seemed to be the only place in town within 1 or 2 miles from the highway that looked like they had a TV to watch the NFL draft. Drove around the building and seen a rough looking lady sitting out behind the building taking a break, smoking or something. Went in and it took along time for host to acknowledge me as she was dealing with other customers bills, taking payment. Asked if I could sit at the bar and she said sure. Sat at the bar and they mentioned Ashley would be serving me. Ashley turned out to be the lady sitting out behind the building. She is fairly significantly tattooed with several on her neck, and very skinny almost anorexic. She took my drink order and eventually brought chips and salsa, my drink and a menu. I was killing time until I could get my tire fixed in the morning so not really in a rush or hurry. She asked if I want to order and I said let me look at the menu for awhile. I drank my drink really quickly as it was hot, I'm traveling and really thirsty. It took her quite awhile to get back to me to offer me a refill. I ordered a bowl of chicken soup when she brought my second or third drink. It took a really long time for a bowl of chicken soup to come and it was brought by another lady. I asked her for another drink, and she said ok. After 10 or 15 mins or even more and still not getting a refill I asked some old guy trying to make drinks at the bar for a refill on my drink. He did not really reply, but seemed to understand what I asked for. He seemed to be confused about the alcoholic drinks he was trying to mix, even scratching his head while looking for and picking different bottles for the drinks her was making. Eventually, after another long period of time 15 mins or more my waitress brought me another drink. When I tasted the chicken soup i understood why it took so long to bring out. It was not really really like soup they had prepared ahead of time. It was like shredded chicken they threw into a bowl, put some cilantro and spices over it and water in the bowl. It tasted like they then just put the bowl of mixture into the microwave to heat it up a bit. Not really what I would call good soup. My waitress eventually did come back and ask if I needed anything else. I told her I was just going to watch the draft for a bit and I asked for another refill . Other customers were still eating at tables near me. After I paid my bill I asked for another refill and was told they pitched all the tea because they were closing soon, I was offered a coke. Even with all this poor service and food I decided to tip her 20 to 25 % Again other customers were still eating at tables behind me. Next thing I notice Ashley my waitress is turning the bar stools upside down on the bar near me. I looked down at my phone for a few mins. When I looked back up at the bar TV's Ashley had turned to power off on the TV's. Again other customers were still sitting behind me at tables. At this point I decided to get up and walk out. On my way out the clueless bartender was at a table going over all the nights checks, so he was obviously a manager or owner and not really a bartender. Skip this place it has poor service, poor food, poor treatment of customers, and low quality employees. read more

Manager is an idiot. The food was decent and that's not really why the low score. I picked up a $70 order for 5 including 2 cheese dips, 1 guacamole, 1 pico de Gallo sour cream and two salsas. They forgot the chips. I went back to the restaurant (14 mile drive) and after grilling me about whether I was sure the chips weren't in the bag, the manager tried to give me 1 bag of chips. I recited my order and said one bag of chips was not enough to go with 6 different dips that we paid for. I had to buy the extra bags. I never received an apology for leaving the chips out of the bag or for ruining the family's dinner with all the back and forth. The manager was hostile and rude about the whole issue. We will not go back here again. read more

Over the years this place has took a drastic turn for the worst. The customer service is horrible along with it takes them an hour to get a couple quesadillas and tacos out. The chicken quesadillas only had 3 small strips of grilled chicken in them along with being cold and the order was incorrect. I highly recommend checking out the other place in town el girasol. As I'm sitting here at this establishment I asked for my check over 20 minutes ago and I have yet to receive it. By far the worst experience I have ever had. It's not even busy. My experience with this business was absolutely disgusting. Myself and a few acquaintances stopped by while on a road trip and sat outside because we had my dog with us. Of about 12-15 tables, 1/2 were not cleaned, but we assumed that was temporary. How wrong we were. We honestly should have left after seeing the piles of unfinished food left out for the flies. However, a super nice server carefully took our order, and showed extra care to our furry friend bringing her nice, cold water. Unfortunately, 2 out of 3 dinner orders were wrong and the 3rd was missing all of the toppings, as well as the side of rice. This was the fault of the cooks, NOT the server. She took meticulous notes, and was frustrated on our behalf. Even after her second order placement, the kitchen still got it wrong. The order also took so long that by the time it came out, we had to leave. I went in to pay for the one meal that was correctly filled and leave. While I'm waiting, I can see the kitchen/prep area and I watched as another server picked up a HUGE open, plastic bucket to refill a tortilla chip bin. Disgusting to think of the flies possibly on it...hoping not since they seemed to be outside. Also as I'm waiting, I see our meals finally come up but I let them know they got it wrong twice and we really need to go, I want to pay for the one meal and leave. The man who appeared to be running things was not happy, he blamed the server (WRONG), he NEVER apologized and only asked what we had to drink in order to charge for every dime. The patio area was very dirty, I didn't spend enough time inside to comment, with one exception; I know that a container of chips left open does not meet sanitation requirements and makes everything else questionable.
