We were aiming to meet my parents at the nearby Zaxby's, but were dismayed by the long line inside so we took a gamble on this place. We were pleasantly surprised by the super friendly waiter who took care of us along with a side of interesting conversation. At our table we had a wide variety of dishes (HUGE super burrito, vegetarian combo, enchiladas supreme, beef tacos...) and they were all good. Everything arrived steaming hot on hot plates. The restaurant was pretty deserted, but it was 2:00 on a Sunday. It also seemed that most of the traffic from I-75 was content to visit the chains closer to the interstate. If you're passing through give this place a try...you can eat at all those other places in your own town. read more

Much like the other reviewers we were passing through on our way to Miami, when we could no longer wait to eat! I will also let you in on the fact that I have a knack for picking the worst exits to stop at......seriously it's a curse! Since I was driving it was up to me to pick the exit where we would stop to eat. Now if you're familiar with the area, you know that choices are few and far between, so I picked the bustliest area I could find. We pulled off the exit and drove about 3 miles down the road scoping out restaurants. We noticed Los Compadres and made a mental note. After our 6 mile roundtrip we felt confident that Los Compadres was the best........if not only......choice. We are from Indiana, so the opporunity to sit outside in March was really the deciding factor and I'm glad we did! It was a beautiful evening and even though I was driving and couldn't enjoy a margarita, it was still a relaxing pit stop. We tried out the queso for an appetizer and while I know nothing sounds as delicious as ooey gooey melted cheese, you should save your money. It wasn't worth the $4 and definitely not worth the calories, you'll be fine with the standard chips and salsa. For our meal, we had our usual chicken fajitas and they were good enough, the portion was huge we had more than enough to share. The biggest disappointment was the rice with our fajitas, it was truly awful, I was tempted to send it back because I was convinced that it had been contaminated with some type of chemical. Overall, it was a good meal probably because we were really hungry. On future visits through the area, I'll be careful to plan out a truly worthwhile eatery to stop at. read more

First of all I'm not even sure if our waitress was alive while serving us and if she is she sure doesn't want to be. Second I ordered a quesadilla and they require you to get two better known as a simple legal scam. So I went with the cheese dipped, and it has less flavor than the water. We've should have walked out when we stepped inside and found the floors so sticky that our shoes nearly pulled off our feet. We decided to give them a chance, next the server FINALLY made it to our table to take our drink order, she then returned we the most stale chips we have ever had. It only got worse when our meal arrived, I ordered fajitas and they tasted like than had been boiled and then thrown onto a grill to char them, they were tasteless and rubbery. My husband ordered the chicken enchiladas and each end of the enchiladas were dried out. We did complain but the owner could have cared less, he charged me for the small serving of rice and beans that came with the fajitas with no apologies for the poor food. read more

Never again. The smell from the dumpster was horrendous. The waitress did not understand our drink or food order. I ordered a Rum Runner and received watered down pineapple juice. My husband ordered a Long Island Tea and received watered down lemonade. My husband ordered the taco meal with meat and cheese only on his tacos. Did not happen. He sent his plate back and told her to bring him one taco, meat and cheese only. He received the same plate with cold beans and rice. New tacos. This was a place we patronized at least four times a month but it has really gone down. We will not go back. We felt robbed. Had to give one star because you can't post a zero. read more

Wow, what a reset! We read the recent reviews that weren't so great, but had eaten there a while back and remember it being pretty good. We decided to give it a try, and had a great meal & experience. The staff was quick and courteous, and the food was well above the average Mexican restaurant. Horrible experience all around. Took 45+minutes to bring out refried beans, guacamole, soft tacos and a cheese quesadilla. We were never asked for refills. When the food came, it had a BUG CRAWLING IN IT! They blamed it on the fact we were outside, but it didn't fly over to my plate--bc it was crawling--and, they had JUST delivered it!!! We asked for an addl plate, glass, straws and napkins--never came. I went to retrieve these items myself. After asking 2x for our bill, they brought the chicken scratch the waitress took our order with and then one total at the bottom. I asked for our bill again and she pointed to the total. I informed her that I wanted an itemized bill AND I was not paying for food that had a bug in it and did not eat. They apologized and said it was bc a few big parties backed them up. Horrible service. Horrible food. Our drinks took forever, asked for lemon three times never got it. We ordered steak tacos, one beef and one chicken taco, and two beef burritos with extra cheese (no sides just burritos). We received fish tacos (NO flavor, dry as can be), two beef tacos (no chicken), and the whole meal with two beef burritos without extra cheese. The waitress was awful, she dropped the extra cheese and forgot to bring us extra chips and more drink. The manager did not care at all about our service. We paid and left. A great find! Like most reviewers, we stopped there by chance on the way from MI to FL. I give it 5 stars because as the description says, it's as good as it gets. Very clean and friendly. The food is very good and authentic. Drive into town from the I75 exit, skip the usual chains and stop there. read more

Nice little Mexican place. We were trying to make it to Macon before stopping for dinner but jumped off in Cordele as it was getting late. The dining options weren't impressive, so we were about to hit a fast food joint when we saw the sign. My family loves Mexican food, so it wasn't even a question of whether or not we were going to stop. Good food, service and prices. The staff was awesome. They were very friendly and attentive. I only had the cheese dip and other sides, but it was pretty good other than the cheese dip being cold and having to be reheated. The main downfall was the fact that they do not have a liquor license so no mixed drinks. read more

Traveling with the family from Florida back to the Midwest. Our server was very nice, but seemed to struggle with the fact that two of the five of us were sharing an entrée. As a result we were over-billed by about ten dollars. I tried to rectify this when paying but was assured everything was correct. (The fact that drink prices - alcohol or otherwise - are not listed didn't help matters.) My daughter enjoyed her tamales, and my oldest son raved about his shrimp tacos; but my carne asada tacos lacked any kind of spices or discernible flavor. Sealing the deal for me was the fact that our server couldn't be bothered to swing by our table once in thirty minutes to check on us, perhaps see if anyone needed another beverage. My tacos de carne asada were only ok, but I'm spoiled by my local mex with it's tomatillo sauce. This was offered with pico, which was too hot for my tastes. The drinks were watery, imho. Me and my family were eating with some friends. They come out with her food and her food wasn't even right.She cut up an burrito and put a piece in her mouth and it looked like she was about to throw up or choke. She pulls out a bread tie, that was in her burrito. We let the waitress know that we would like to talk to a manager. The lady that we talk to was an older woman. She acted like nothing happened and we never got any new food back.Then we went to go check out and our friend let the manager over the whole restaurant know and he said nothing about it. He acted like there was nothing wrong with it and he didn't even apologize. The waitress apologized and was super nice about it more than the two managers were. This was so ridiculous.They have horrible service. I would advise anyone that is looking to eat at a Mexican restaurant to go eat at El Girasole. This place is not a good Mexican restaurant to eat at. I am very disappointed and very upset how this went down. They first gave me the opposite thing that I ordered, then gave me someone else's order from another table, then they gave me my food but forgot the tortillas and didn't bring them out until I finished my food. My wife and I have eaten here many times. The service and the food are okay and the prices are reasonable. Nothing exceptional. Word of Warning: a call for any tequila other than the house Souza will cost a LOT more $. The outdoor patio is a nice addition and would be the perfect place to chill if it weren't for the ugly and noisy view of 16th Ave. I would suggest some nice landscaping and fencing to screen this out. read more

This is currently my favorite Mexican restaurant in the area. We recently had my moms Birthday there and was able to sit outside and enjoy the occasion. I've never purchased anything that I didn't like. Everything is always cooked perfectly and they give way more than I could ever eat, for the price. It's one of the few places I actually take home a dogie bag because the food is almost as good rewarmed as it is served fresh. We plan to go again this weekend and I can't wait, my mouth is already watering for their drinks and meals. read more

There is no customer service. Our waiter was the cook who was told to help take orders. Waiter was polite but forgot to bring the tortillas for the fajitas and the beans. Our food was cold and bland. There was no hot sauce or other condiments available. We never received the bills at the table. The owner had to separate the orders even after being told we were paying separately. The owner never responded when we stated that our food was cold, he just yelled at the waiter in Spanish and rang us up. I'll be here three weeks but will NOT be visiting there again. read more

The food is taco Bell grade and the service is horrible. The wait staff is sloppy, slow and makes you feel like you're inconvenient. I figured I'd try this place based on other reviews claiming "the best Mexican food" but in all reality this place isn't authentic or like I said, above taco bell grade food. The place is OK. Many of the patrons were Hispanic workers in the area. The chips and salsa were good. Wine was reasonably priced. I got the beef fajitas. The flavor was good, but the meat was as tough as shoe leather. It needed much more pounding prior to cooking it. There was only one waitress and she was overworked. So service slowed down as people arrived. She was friendly. I think they are looking for more staff. They had wi-fi, but it the signal was weak. read more
