Just tried this for the first time. My husband and I each had a combo so we could try more things. We did not like anything at all. The meat was hard and chewy. The chicken tasted boiled. Wanted an actual sit down Mexican mean instead of the normal "strip mall order at the counter" places. Never been to Los Cucos but remembered it from driving by several times and decided to try it. Yummy is the first word that comes to mind. It's a big place and can get loud - ask for a booth even if you have to wait a few minutes more. The menu is large and lots to choose from. The salsa brought with the chips is so good! There is a cold green salsa and a hot (temperature) black salsa. The hot salsa was very different and very good. We had to ask for more! We were excited to try this local place through door dash. The order was delivered on time and it smelled so good, but we were soon to be disappointed. In our Grande Combo Nachos there were 6 chips covered in cheese and meet, with the other chips secured in other bags plain. I was absolutely shocked. I wish I was exaggerating but I'm serious 6 chips is all they decided to cover in cheese and meat. We also ordered fajitas and in the order it says 4 tortillas is included in order and we only got 2. I have waited a couple of months to write this review to see if my taste for this restaurant will return, I am sad to say it has not. Until Valentine's Day my husband and I were regular visitors to this restaurant. We decided to get some take out for Valentines as I worked a grave shift that night. I have to say the table side made guacamole is the best I have every eaten. It is made to the taste of each person, and it comes with flour tortilla chips. If you have never had flour tortilla chips, I highly recommend them! If they were judged on the guacamole only, they would be 5 stars. We also ordered the Valentines special fajitas. This came with beef, pork, chicken, and shrimp, and fresh tortillas. My husband and I each ate a large shrimp, but did not have time for anything else. I also had eaten some guacamole before leaving for work. That night I experienced some of the worst gastric pain ever. I came home in the morning and found my husband looking pale and sick, he too had been awake all night from the shrimp. Needless to say we promptly dumped the remainder $50 in food in the trash. We have not been back since, and both have decided to never eat shrimp again! read more

I had heard good things about this restaurant from friends and decided to try it. The food was fantastic and we were very impressed with our server Janelle. She provided stellar service. She recommended the fajitas, which were wonderful. They serve them on this box type thing that has charcoal underneath which gave the food a yummy smoky flavor. We were impressed all around. It's not often that you receive such excellent service anymore. Our drinks were never empty and we didn't have to ask for a single thing. She anticipated our needs and went above and beyond. I really wanted to give this restaurant a higher score. I keep coming back to this restaurant because they're one of the few places in Utah that has decent Mexican food. Chips and salsa are great, tortillas taste freshly made, and the Fajitas a las Brasas are downright amazing. For the food I'd give it 4 stars. The downside is that the ambiance and service are very poor. There appears to be a high turnover rate for the staff, as it always seems like they're figuring it out as they go along. This is also accompanied by long periods of time before you see your waiter again. Bad lighting and the greatest hits from the 90's really makes the overall execution awkward -- making me wonder whether I should have just ordered it to-go. Service/Atmosphere would have to be a 2. Even though the dining experience has a lot of wrinkles that need to be ironed out, the food is excellent and worth checking out. read more

Based on a dozen visits over the past ten months, it doesn't get much worse than Los Cucos. Their shady practices and terse staff make the dining experience awkward and uncomfortable. I've been here a couple of times now and it's officially on my list of go-to places. It's a little more expensive than many Mexican restaurants, but the food is definitely worth it. I've had tacos, taquitos, the stuffed avocado, and sample some friend's dishes, and loved everything I had. And I particularly love that serve a salsa and a guacamole with the chips they bring out to you. I've never been there when it isn't really busy (our fault for going out to dinner in Salt Lake the night that conference ends!), but even when things take a little longer the servers are always really nice and helpful. The worst Mexican food I have ever had!! Received our food and we couldn't even tell what was what. We ordered fish tacos, and a smothered burrito and we could not tell them apart. The fish tacos had a horrible smell, and were un-edible! We also ordered Queso dip and it tasted like water. Great food all around. The stuffed avacado meal is great. They have a salsa and a house guacamole blend that you get with chips and salsa and it's unique and tasty. Ignored the dozen or so dirty glasses that the wait staff made no effort to clean up. That is forgivable....what is not was the awful service. I walked out initially after being ignored but the waiter tracked me down on way out so I stayed. Mistake! The ladies behind me ordered and quickly got their meal. Another customer who gave my menu to after I ordered finished his meal while I waited eating chips and watered down salsa, hoping for dinner. Still no sign or no clue where my dinner was. I paid for my drink and left, got a burger at Carls Jr in the next parking lot over so I would not be hungry. I was craving fajitas so I ordered take out. The quantity of food was excellent. I had chicken, some pieces were to large to fit into the tortillas they sent along and some pieces had a weird texture and felt rubbery. The usual sides came with; refried beans and rice. The tortillas crumbled apart when I attempted to fold them. The onions felt like they still had the outter skins on some of them and were difficult to masticate. We've been here twice in the past month or so. The chips and salsa are great, their refried beans are good, rice is decent, and the people we've been with rave about the steak fajitas. Their beef brisket is also good. There are a few reasons why the star rating is not a four. One, I've gotten the tamales, and they tasted as bad as they looked, which was nothing like the photo on the menu. Two, don't waste your money with mixed drinks here. I've gotten different mojitos both times and I really don't think they even put alcohol in them. Seriously. Should've just paid for a mint lemonade. Other members of our parties have gotten sangria and other mixed drinks and they agree that it seems like they don't even put any alcohol in there. Which is just shady. Third, the enchiladas tortillas are orange/pink. No idea why, but they taste no bueno. Lastly, I got the hard shell chicken tacos this second time and the chicken just doesn't have any flavor. Only topped with lettuce and tomatoes, I poured the chips salsa on it and it tasted better, but, still pretty bland. Which isn't what you expect when eating Mexican food. This is not a good Mexican restaurant, in a city known for good Mexican food. The service was extremely slow it took about 15 minutes to get our drinks. I ordered the groundbeef tacos and ended up getting steak tacos which were fatty cuts of beef. The tortilla shells were amazing though so I just ate those. We also got cheese enchiladas and all it was, was melted cheddar cheese that became cold and hard after it cooled down. Our server was nice but the food was awful. Will not be back. read more

We love coming to Los Cucos ... the food is so good here. I usually eat the enchiladas and my husband gets the El Gringo plate. The sampler appetizer is almost a meal in itself and the variety is great when you have 4 or more people. Patty is so good to us and always has a smile when she sees us. My review just didn't go through, but I love Los Cucos so much I'm going to re-write it. This is my favorite Mexican place in Utah. I go here for lunch a lot, and the quality is always very high. I get the steak fajitas a lot, they're a great deal on the lunch menu. I don't know how they make their steak so tender and delicious, but it's great. Trust me, get something with steak here, you won't be disappointed. The chips and salsa are also fantastic. You can't be a good Mexican restaurant without them. They bring out a verde and a red salsa that are both awesome. And they're definitely not stingy about bringing out more, which you'll probably need them to do. If you've got some friends with you and you're hungry, the grill plates are also awesome to share. They're basically a huge sampler platter that give you an idea of all the deliciousness you can get at Los Cucos. read more

OK, for all of my fellow Yelpers I want you to know that I really do not care about the service I get when I go out I care about the food, I am all about the food so I rarely comment on service because I just don't care how you treat me, I care what you feed me. Service bad, food good equals a good night out!!! Having said that, I wanted to be sure and note that the service that we received at Los Cucos was great, seriously, above average service!!! The reason I am noting that is because some of my fellow Yelpers dumped on the service here and the service we got was very good. OK, enough about that, on to the food. This is a great little Mexican food restaurant that I will look forward to going back to many times, Los Cucos is my new number two Mexican food establishment with Mi Ranchito Grill still being my favorite!!! My wife and I returned home from a day of rafting and wanted to try a new place, one of my wife's co-workers had good things to say about Los Cucos so we gave it a shot. The chips and salsa were very good, the chips were very light and fresh and the salsa was very flavorful, they serve a traditional salsa and they also give you a salsa that we think was a avocado and lime salsa that was truly unique and tasted great. I ordered the Crispy Taco combination plate and a beef tamale, the tacos have ground beef instead of the standard shredded beef and I really enjoyed them and the tamale's are above average, during the next visit I will absolutely have the tamale's again. The tacos are served with rice and beans which was good, I have had better rice and beans but it was OK. My wife tried the El Guarache which is a 8 oz. beef fajita steak on a bed of Sauteed onions and she loved it, said that it was one of the best she has ever had. The price was great, the two of us ate with soft drinks for only $26 dollars. Great spot, good atmosphere, friendly staff, really good food, and very reasonable cost!! A friend and I (with our New Years new ways of eating) were going out to a movie & decided to go to a restaurant too. I was able to get substitutions to enjoy a very satisfying meat free meal. He was able to enjoy his meat and change things out to stick with being gluten free. Our waiter was so friendly and attentive without stopping by too often. I really appreciated that.
