I decided to go to Los Dos after hearing people rave about how good the food is. I stopped by this afternoon and the food was delicious. I ordered steak tacos and a side of beans. The only reason I gave 4 stars was because they left a bay leaf in my beans and they were extremely spicy, and the prices are a little steep. $3 per taco and everything has to be ordered a la carte. 3 tacos with a side of beans and a can of pop was $13.60. This place has apparently been under my nose for 2 years... I regret my life. The food here is simply phenomenal! Extremely fresh, everything is made in front of you, even tortillas! The chips are like little triangles of heaven. I've never tasted chips this warm and fresh. My torta was perfectly soft and crispy, the meat inside juicy, and veggies fresh and earthy. I wish I lived closer to Los Dos, their food is delicious. Menu is pretty limited, but everything we tasted was delicious. We basically tasted all of the meats, everything on the menu is a dish made with one of the meats, or cheese/peppers. I had a steak taco and a salbute (deep fried tortilla topped with shredded chicken, cabbage and tomato) My suuuper picky self ate both at record speed. The meat was really nicely flavored, no fatty pieces (which I HATE) and topped with cilantro and onions, and I added some of their salsas (which, by the way are so damn tasty!!). The tortilla is a fresh made corn masa tortilla - able to hold all that meat and the salsa without falling apart. The Salbute was also really good, maybe just a touch greasy - but it's deep fried - gonna happen. Chicken was nicely seasoned as well. My BF had a steak torta, and a pork taco (cochinita pibil) - he loved them both as well. My son had a chicken rice bowl - it was FULL with rice, meat, lettuce, tomatoes, beans, sour cream, etc. He tore that sucker up - and my son normally does not eat very much - he finished it all!! Very limited dessert selection - mainly flans - I had the flan de rompope - OMG was that sh*t good. I have to learn how to make it at home because Los Dos is just too far for me to hit on a regular basis and I can't wait that long to have another one of those flans!! Next time I am also trying the Kahlua flan...sounds deeelish. Complimentary chips and salsas -- all tasty. heat levels varied from mild to really really hot! Another successful Taco Tuesday at this simple and friendly establishment. I tend to overlook places that don't offer lengua but I couldn't ignore the reviews and pictures. This place was a very nice surprise. The storefront is small, not many places to sit, but it was a not-so-busy Tuesday. The menu is fairly straight forward, not an overwhelming amount of options. We went with steak, chicken, and pork tacos with cilantro y onions and cheeeze (15c extra). I was also lucky enough to get the last daily special, a pork tamale. Also a side of rice. The tacos were great across the board. They're larger than most places and comparable in price. The pork taco was extra juicy and delicious. I usually get three at most places but I would be satisfied with two. The pork tamale was so-so, nothing special. The rice was standard as well. Perfectly cooked, great texture, but the flavor wasn't there. But no worries, if you eat in, you can dress it up with some salsa raja or verde that come with the awesomely fresh FREE chips and salsa. Los Dos has been a staple for us for years! The food is amazing and the owners and staff are great!

Los Dos is a nice small little place tucked away in a strip mall on Maple and Belmont. For Vegetarians, the options are somewhat limited and they did not seem to want to adjust their menu to accommodate. That's fine - every place is not for every one, and I can understand that. Basically for vegetarians they had a taco or a torta with poblano peppers and cheese as the filling. That's about it... We all had the taco, and it was fine. From the appetizers side we tried the guacamole and quesadilla. Again, for the guacamole, they didn't to adjust to taste, e.g., I wanted a spicy guac. For $6, you get a very very small cup of the guac, which was a bit disappointing. It was fine. The rest of the items didn't seem to be over-priced, so that was kind of surprising. Lastly, the quesadilla with pepper and cheese was good. I think the best thing Los Dos has to offer are the chips and sauces. All three sauces are quite good and the extra hot sauce is very good. The place seemed to be doing great business. It was around 6pm on a Friday evening, and place was crowded. Seemed like one lady trying to run the show, which was probably tough. Luckily, we arrived before the crowds showed up so we got lucky. Overall, Los Dos is a nice little joint. Very clean place and fresh food. Personally, I would appreciate if they had better options for vegetarians or at least a willingness to adjust the fixed menu. read more

I enjoyed my meal at Los Dos quite a bit. The staff were friendly and attentive, and the food was tasty. I had a couple of steak tacos and one salbute. The salsa verde is a great accompaniment to their tacos and salbutes.I enjoyed the tacos a bit more than the salbute, which-- though it had a nice texture--had a slight fishy aroma. This sometimes happens when canola oil is used in frying. The menu is small. I actually prefer this kind of focus rather than the Cheesecake Factory everything-but-the-kitchen-sink approach. Los Dos doesn't have great variety, but you can be assured that what you eat will be of high quality. The prices are very fair for the quality. I used to trek to Xni-Pec for a Yucatan take on Mexican food, but I think I may go to Downers Grove more often than not now. read more

I didn't even know this place was here and I live right down the street! it's hidden right behind family video next to the thai pot. Which is how I noticed it, while waiting for my shrimp pad thai. I was really tempted to bail out and try this place but that would be just rude. Anyways, I looked on their website for their menu and it's very simple. Just a couple main entrees and few appetizers and sides. I decided to get the steak torta and it was really good. The thing that I was really surprised by was the quality. The bread was fresh, the steak was not grisly but it was really tender and juicy and the vegetables were really crisp and refreshing against all of the ingredients. The hot sauces were also really good. You could tell they took the time to make them. Also when I picked up my food they said they didn't have takeout menus because their menu is always changing. They have some creative people working here. This place is more gourmet than other Mexican joints but its still reasonably priced and I think that's what is going to make me come back. read more

The quality of food is top notch and has been since first eating at Los Dos about three years ago. I usually get the pepper and cheese rice bowl and it is always perfection. Good place to eat. Price is slightly above average but you get a lot for your money. Service is great and flavor is superior to anything else you will find in Lisle and downers grove. They use first class ingredients on everything and they do meal packages so you can take everything and cook it at home (their Carne Asada meal to go has everything you need to grill at home if you are in to that). Solid taco joint in DG. We ordered four tacos total along with chips and guac. The only "downside" is that the menu is somewhat limited, including the topping options. It came with two kinds of salsa. Both salsas were excellent. I think the verde had more heat. The platter came with the usual rice and beans. The beans were really quite excellent. Taco heaven here...everything is super fresh and well seasoned. I usually get carne asada tacos, with everything: cilantro, onions, lettuce, cheese, tomato. Super delish handmade thick corn tortillas, very west coast. They also serve crisp fresh chips and salsa. Order at the counter, find a seat and the nice people who work there will bring out your order. Cash only for orders under $10. Best Tacos in the suburbs. Their steak tacos come with cilantro and onion only and are served on a hand made tortillas. I always choose corn tortillas for tacos. Two sauces , red and green, are a bit spicy but nothing that a regular person not used to spicy food could not handle. We had their steak dinner an it was delicious. Chicken torta is always delicious and the bun that they use is always fresh. They keep their food simple and authentic. Sometimes they run out of the daily specials before the day is over. A strip mall outlet. Not much seating. Downers grove. Yeah, this might not be the place you look to get Mexican food. Los Dos is an exceptional Mexican restaurant and has the food of classic, authentic Mexican food. This is a high 4 star rating. Everything was very good from the tacos (steak, pork, and peppers and cheese) to the tortilla soup. What is great about this place is how they cook their tortillas. They make sure every tortilla is cooked enough to compliment it's wonderful fillings. Restaurants should take boys of this as it is not always done. A pretty good Horchata also. The chef, who is also part owner, is charming. While I don't think it's necessary, it's always nice to see someone you like cooking your food with such care. I don't think there's anywhere else better in downers grove to eat. read more

What Mexican fast food restaurant dont serve burritos? I'll tell you, this one. They have a small menu, 6 regular items and 1 special for a total of 7. What also got me was that they have large styrofoam cups on display but I was told they are only for the workers? Huh? I would of gladly paid extra for a large but apparently they dont want to upsell. I give this place 3 stars because the food was good. I ordered a carne asada torta. The meat was very tender and they also have house made salsa. The chips are bite sized, so they go fast and they charge you another $1 for more chips. There is no fountain drinks, as all the drinks are in can's or bottles except the horchata that only comes in 1 size. I wouldn't come here again because of the limited menu. read more

The Space is unassuming, cute and clean so all good there. Staff/Service never ever had a bad experience so again all good. Food---this is where the place shines....fresh chips..really good salsa hate the squeeze bottles though it just kind of grosses me out but that is because I have some ocd's lol. Tacos are where it's at here...get them any of them, look for the special fried chicken ones when they have them. They make a decent Guac as well. Had the Steak Torta and also really really good. My only complaint and I get it....sometimes the menu gets a little boring would like to see a little more variety...also and this is just me I wouldn't mind seeing a xtra hot salsa. So for starters.. fresh made tortillas... flour and corn... yep sold! ... ordered tacos... my go to... always chicken... and it was grilled! Thank you Jesus... Awesome.. none of that shredded stuff ... called 10 minutes before closing for a pick up ...my first time...I said I know you are closing but can I place an order.. No problem... made me feel like they were happy to take my order and no rush whatsoever .. I ordered rice also.. not sticky and it was delicious... also tried the mild red and hot green salsas..couldn't stop eating both .. so well balanced and flavorful.. ... just so good... side note ... We had a steak bowl, a chicken bowl, and conchita pibil. It was fresh but it needed more seasoning, it was kind of bland. This place is great. Real chefs coats, authentic food, house made tortillas. And a special every single day that is worth coming here for, no matter what you like. Their smoked and stewed pork is amazing. Yet I prefer the steak is which is charred, yet stays moist on the inside despite being cut into very small cubes. Today's special is sopes (I got two).
