I love watching movies. And the Los Feliz 3 Theater in Los Feliz, California is the place to see them! It's such a nostalgic movie theater with a person at the one box office who greets you warmly and is nicely dressed in a vest, the cartoon countdown from 10 minutes to it's time for the show, a classic confessions person taking your food and drink orders to the detailed orientated rugs and fun designed lighting fixtures. The restrooms are clean and modernized. The lighting could be a bit brighter. Inside of the theaters is a fun experience. It's as if we're transported back in time with it's art deco style on the walls, plush and roommy seats that start with many seats in the back then goes to two seater aisles the closer one gets to the screen. The screen it self is hidden behind a plush or velvet curtain until it's time to watch the other movie previews, watch a cartoon about going to the concession booth or the hilarious "Turn Off Your Cellular Phones" Victorian opera style. I caught a matinee which was a great price and the other attendees enjoyed the movie! I love this theater! read more

As a member of American Cinematheque, I have to start by saying this is my favorite of the three theaters they typically show screenings in. Everything is always so well organized and it's just the cutest theater. Now the only negative for me is finding parking, but that's always an issue in this busy area of Los Feliz. My usual routine is to check for street parking, then check the tiny lot behind the theater, then I usually end up at the $8 church lot. The flip side positive of this is there are so many food and dessert places around for pre or post-show eats. I like that this theater is a bit more cozy than other locations, but honestly it's a normal size when thinking of it as a straight movie theater. I most recently saw Come See Me in The Good Light (an amazing documentary that will shift your perspective on death & grief) with a spirited Q&A with the producers Tig Notaro, Jessica Hargrave & Ryan White centering around poet Andrea Gibbons. Go watch it on AppleTV! Now I say this to emphasize that there wasn't a bad seat in the house. The movie and the Q&A after had good views & good vibes. The seats at Los Feliz Theater are wide and comfortable faux leather. This was the first time at a smaller non-chain theater I wasn't constantly shifting in my seat, as the seats were just plain comfy here though they don't recline or anything fancy like that. Concessions aren't overpriced, with many thinking the popcorn here is above average. And just $5 for a LARGE! Clean bathrooms. Friendly staff! Surprisingly a lot of street and public parking nearby! And so many restaurants/bars for before or after your movie. The theater was clean and the bathrooms were quite large compared to other venues the American Cinematheque uses. I have only been in one of the LF3's three theaters, but it's such a strange configuration. The seats are comfortable with ample leg room, but the screen feels like it's on the ceiling... I'll likely return because of AC programming, but this is an odd theater. read more

The theater was small but not crowded on a Friday evening, and the staff offered film posters at the end of the screening. The concession stand was tidy and efficient, the popcorn, candy, and drinks reasonably priced. Overall, this is a gem of a local theater, and I look forward to my next visit. read more

I recently went to watch a movie at Los Feliz 3, it gives off all the feelings that a movie theater should. It has the traditional ticket booth in front, the employees have collar/ties uniform, and the popcorn is reasonable priced/sized. The theaters are small but cozy and it doesn't hurt the experience of watching the film (if you're a casual movie goer). Very classic movie experience. The parking is hard but not impossible. Los Feliz 3 is a charming little movie theater that I have been going to since high school. It has a small screen and usually only a limited selection of films playing, but that is exactly what gives it its character. The concession stand and seating both have a vintage feel, which adds to the overall unique experience of the theater. I make a comment that a staff member pointed me to the wrong door. Then that staff member swears. Then I swear. Then a customer calls me, a transgender woman, out, but not the staff member. While referring to me as male. Staff doesn't do anything about that customer. I ask for a refund. Security refers to me as male, I thought. That seems confirmed since he then did. I was also misgendered by I think the first staff member mentioned in this review. Conservative practice in a house of art. Wow. We come here often to see American Cinematheque shows, and very much enjoy our experience. The seating is actually comfortable compared to theaters like the Aero (which is also fun, just less comfortable). It's a smaller theater, and definitely not "fancy," but nonetheless a fun experience. We tried the popcorn last time and OMG, it was literally the best popcorn I've ever had. Concessions prices are also very good. We usually find parking on a nearby street fairly easily. Definitely recommend it for fun movie screenings! read more

Outside on exits homeless sleeping during shows... dangerously blocking the exits in case of emergency. Smells horrible. Very dangerous if something ever happens and you want to get out fast. Inside, bathroom is cold and smells bad. Inside one of the theaters, there is a garbage can, like you have at your house... One manager not very courteous, thinks he owns the place. This quirky, little theatre brings so much nostalgic joy to my heart! Buying my tickets in person and lining up early for a film make for a great way to relive in person cinema again. The small theatre fits no more 6 people per row, but it's fittingly appropriate to watch artsy, indie films for a more personal viewing experience. The starry sky with the eclectic music preserve a dreamy sense of wonder while waiting for French Dispatch. Do come early around 30 minutes before the show to grab decent seats in the middle! The best part is sometimes people watching and guessing how big and late arrival groups will end up splitting over the small number of seats! read more

I went to the Los Feliz 3 today to attend the screening of Meet Me In The Bathroom. I arrived late for the screening partly because I could'nt find parking. There was no parking available in the lot behind the theater. When I tried parking at the lot behind the 13th Church of Christ, Scientist, I was rudely turned away by the parking lot attendant. The signage for the lot behind the church suggested there were available parking spaces for the public. I ended up parking a few blocks away from the theater for my visit. The movie theater is nice, but I don't like that parking isn't easy to come by. read more

This place is one of the few vintage theaters that are still in operation here in Los Angeles. Located between Hollywood & Los Feliz neighborhoods. It has three rooms of small screens (hence the name) where they rotate the films they project. They usually have premieres and special screenings of old movies/documentaries in room #1 (the one past the restrooms) on certain days of the week; which is the bigger one (green drapes and lights). Room #2 (blue drapes and starry ceiling) is before restrooms and it's the smallest & narrow one. The #3 room is on the left of concessions. It's the first room you'll see while entering the place (red room with clear white drapes covering tiny blue lights on the walls). This movie theater may be dated for some people, but for me that is what makes it unique and I love it for that. All the rooms' decor take you back to another era where movie theaters were compact, fancy and cute! I don't know, I just love this place. Plus, the service is great, and the ticket and concession prices are still pretty affordable compared to other big chain places. Street parking and there is a paid lot on the rear of the place. Just be sure to check street signs and the time before leaving your car. Nice area to explore if you're visiting for the first time. read more

I have been coming to this neighborhood theater for thirty years and even though my friends prefer Pasadena or Glendale to see films, I like supporting local business and especially our local movie and stage theaters. I can't wait for The Vista to be back on the boards. However, I do have a concern that is new: The new website is horrible! It is hard to read, not well organized, it wastes so much time, the fonts are terrible, and many of the items on it do not work so that says that it is not tended to well either. In a day and age of great technology their "click on coming movies to see trailer" doesn't work, their "click here to buy tickets" doesn't work, and when I went to the theater 40min early to buy a ticket I was told that the show was sold out already, that "I should buy tickets online." When I told the person in the box-office that that function does not work on their website they looked at me like I was some pitiful old person who couldn't understand how to click the purchase ticket option on their website. "Well other people did it," and smugly turned away. In all the years I have been going there I have NEVER been treated disrespectfully or been made to feel anything but welcomed. It was disturbing. For clarification: I am 68, still working in a demanding medical job, stand tall, walk fast, could verbally and intellectually easily wipe the floor with the rude box office person but choose to have manners instead and will take my complaints public - which they invite you to do on their website, "Tell us what you think!" then they link you so several public review platforms. That's how I decided to take them up on it and got here. A business that is devolving rather than evolving ought to be more careful about asking for feedback. There are not many great pleasures in life that are affordable any longer but seeing a movie at my local neighborhood theater has been one. To realize that management has changed and that their hiring practices no longer require employees to be, at the very least, helpful and not rude is a HUGE disappointment. I have half a mind to lead a protest outside the theater. This insult culture of meanness has just gotten out of hand. I will be contacting management - also not as easy as it use to be. I do not understand this trend toward rude, crude, and unfriendly. It makes no business sense to me, especially in a small neighborhood venue. Los Feliz has always been such a wonderful place to walk into. I hope that I just arrived on that person's bad day but, unfortunately, they seemed pretty confident with themselves. That condescending look directly into my eyes was well practiced. I was taken aback. What use to be welcoming is now just feels corporate and impersonal. The OPPOSITE of what it has always been. Please tell me this isn't the new norm. My health insurance provides free monthly movies but I never take advantage of it. However, when I found out that they'll screen "Judy" in this historical landmark in Los Feliz, I signed up for it. First, I'm interested to see the life story of a Judy Garland and second, I wanted to check out this theater which I've never been to. There are three small theaters, hence the name. This theater is a lot smaller than the typical megaplex in terms of area and screens. I think each theater can only accommodate less than 100 guests. The particular theater we viewed the movie had two seats on the right and about five on the left. The two seater seems perfect for a couple watching a movie and the five seater for a family or group of friends. I find the the seats very comfortable though. I particularly liked the ambiance here. The era of the multiplex has been doomsday for small neighborhood theaters, this theater has been broken up into three small auditoriums which is fine for a neighborhood like this. It's nice to see it saved from becoming an Apple Store or something else. The sound and picture are good and the seats are plush, being smaller theaters there really aren't any bad seats. American Cinematheque has screenings in one of the theaters so you can attend either a recent release or a revival of something interesting. Definitely worth a visit. read more

My real rating for Los Feliz 3 is 3.5 stars. The Los Feliz 3 and The Vista are the only theaters in the Los Feliz/Silver Lake area. Owned by the same parent company, Vintage Cinemas, they offer bargain matinees before 4:30 p.m., senior discounts, and movie showings for both blockbusters and indie films. Los Feliz has more of the latter, but that adds to its charm. I frequent the movies 2-3 times a week and there are pros and cons to every theater. Los Feliz 3 has a much smaller screen size, almost comparable to a really large television. It was originally a single screen theater, so the layout of some of the theaters is completely off. For example, Cinema 2 has an aisle between 4 seats on the left and 2 seats on the right. Clearly, there have added a wall to create two additional theaters and should have spent the extra money to create an aisle separating 3 seats on the left and 3 seats on the right. I prefer sitting in the middle of the movie screen and the asymmetrical seating throws me off lolol. Parking is limited to metered, residential, and/or the $5 parking lot. Additionally, it's in a great area with tons of hipster restaurants. Overall, I like the Los Feliz 3 for being so close to my home and it's great prices. read more

Los Feliz 3 is in close proximity to the Vista Theatre, and the former often plays movies that have previously screened at the latter (I'm guessing due to the shared ownership). Compared to the Vista, this sister venue feels smaller in scale. I can still remember someone almost sitting on me while we all crammed in to see "The Favourite", and even watching indie films feels like your seeing the latest blockbuster given the smaller theaters. Love old school theaters like this so I do my best to support them. I actually like the fact that seats are still unreserved. Theater screening rooms and screens are small, however, and the concessions stand only sells popcorn, candy and drinks. The movie selections can sometimes be hit or miss in regards to mainstream/blockbuster/popular movies--majority of movies playing are independent films I have never heard of. Nothing wrong with that, but it's always good to mix it up. Not everyone is a black-wearing, Subaru- driving, ganga-smoking, cegan-eating, Democrat-voting liberal Silverlake or Los Feliz hipster...lol read more

Best theater in LA if you are a cinephile. The American Cinemateque has screenings here seven days a week. The staff are all wonderful, cool, respectful, and passionate about film. You could get a bite to eat at Fred 62 before checking out your flick. The prices are also fantastic, popcorn for $3 dollars, tickets usually cheaper. The DCP (digital projection system) here is top knotch, in the past it was a little dim, but now the image quality is transcendent. Sound system is transcendent and immersive. 35mm screenings are awesome, sometimes the copies they have might have dust or scratches which can occasionally be annoying, 90% of the time is top notch. As I said, best theater in LA for all the perks, only matched by Alamo and the Vista. Only slight con is that there are a lot of Yuppies in Los Feliz, other than that, Creme de la creme. read more

This is not your big multiplex with big comfy seats and yet my inner child finds satisfaction in watching movies here. A historical landmark here in Los Feliz, the screen intimate. The bargain matinees are a great value. This is what a neighborhood movie theatre is and forever will be. Everyone of all ages just needs to experience this. Big sound isn't good for every flick. Sometimes you just need to be close to the screen and fell the characters. Parking is strictly what you can find streetside. Evenings and Sundays, there is pay parking available at the Post Office across the street. The restroom may be a little undesirable, but who can blame them ... this place is really old. An amazing local theatre that we are lucky to still have standing and thriving in the heart of the village. Staff are super friendly and helpful. Saw SiSu in theatre 3, which is the smallest theatre. When we sat down we didn't have high hopes that it would be a good screening experience but glad to say we were very wrong, the sound is excellent for a small theatre, really clear, good low end, not too loud. What a cute little (and I mean little) theater in the Silverlake/Los Feliz neighborhood. There are only three screens but they are showing the right movies! Some of the films playing are indie and some are popular. Most recently I watched "The Favourite" and "Sorry to Bother You" here and have had no complaints. I especially enjoy how the ushers are friendly and the popcorn is tasty (the smell of butter seriously fills the room!) and movie pass is accepted (sweet!). This theater really lives up to its name when those old-school commercials shine dimly onscreen providing a uniquely "vintage" feel. As it is very cozy in the theater (and in my opinion it feels safer than the ginormous, IMAX, dinner-seating style theaters) it is definitely a nice place for a date night if you want to be really close to your special someone! read more

This is a small local theater that only shows a couple of movies at a time. It's right next to Skylight books and a bunch of other shops and bars that are fun for browsing while waiting for your film. We got pretty lucky with street parking. Cinema 2 is lined with several rows of four on the left and rows of 2 on the right. Because of limited seating, definitely get here early if you are watching a pretty popular film with a group! We were a group of 3 and came right on time but had to end up sitting in the front row to get seats together. My neck was fine sitting in the front row, but I really tried to lean back as much as I could. Popcorn has an interesting smoky sweet flavor beyond butter. Great theater that provides for a good movie outing and an out of this world nostalgic experience. Do you remember going to the theaters when prices for tickets were less than $10 and a trip to the snack bar didn't break your wallet - well this theater provides you both. The theater has three screens, and generally has the best movies out playing. Tickets can not be purchased through any of the movie apps, and is bought there at the kiosk. Also, seating is not reserved and is first come first serve - so I would recommend getting there early especially if you are seeing a popular movie. We saw "Joker" on Friday, October 11th and after purchasing tickets 30 minutes before showtime joined a line forming outside the theater before entering. We were in the biggest of three theaters and for the price we paid, it was a throughly enjoyable time. Both picture quality and sound is great. Knocking a point as all rows seemed to be on the same level which caused for some heads to block the screen at some points, but you get what you pay for. A great time out without breaking the bank, if you're in the area and in the mood to see a movie, I wouldn't recommend going elsewhere. read more

I haven't been to this theater in 20 plus years! Back when I was young (maybe in my single digit days), I remember the Los Feliz 3 (another name back then) as just one big theater. I remember Thai pop and country singers coming out and holding concerts here. Fast forward 20-25 years to 2014! 3 small theaters and semi-stale popcorn now. Dropped in for Fury (Brad Pitt). $9.50 per adult. Medium popcorn and soda for about $9. The theaters are way smaller here but they have tons of leg room and are cozy. You don't feel like you're in a commercial theater (like an AMC or Edward's). Small concession stand and no lines. Cute and cozy theater in the heart of Los Feliz.
