We stumbled onto Los Kompadres (with a K), a tiny restaurant in a huge mall, while walking past, and were attracted by a window display for their fish and shrimp caldos. It was great! Tasty broth, five or six medium-size shrimp, a 6x3-inch piece of tilapia, plus carrots, potatoes, celery, cabbage, and more. The sizable bowl was plenty to feed two of us. I also ordered crispy beef tacos, and they're the best I've found in North County, with the well-seasoned shredded beef fried in the shell. Outstanding! This small, family-owned operation was a delightful discovery, with great food and an eager-to-please staff. I only wish they'd spell their name with a C, which would get them more customers, because 'Los Compadres' is what potential customers are likely to search for, and they won't find this gem that way. read more

Have been coming here for years. Found this place when I worked nearby. This is a family run shop and they are always friendly and they keep their place very clean. I've tried so many menu items and have never been disappointed: bacon breakfast burritos, carne asada burritos, bean and cheese burritos, potato tacos, crunchy tacos, street tacos, enchiladas. The Machaca con juevo and chorizo breakfast plates are among my favorites. Each food order can be easily shared between two people. The red and green salsas are also delicious. I'm on a taco quest because now I have sensitive teeth unfortunately, so I search for a taco where the Shell hasn't been over fried and too hard. Taco to go was pricey for a single taco. I give it about a 7 out of 10. I like my tacos of a good size if they're $5 or more? I like lots of shredded lettuce, diced tomato & lots of shredded cheese. Pretty good food close to home. We're working our way through the menu and for the most part it's been good. The prices are average for a mid range takeout place, which is how we order food from here. Service is fast and friendly and our orders are usually spot on and fresh. I was a little disappointed in the shrimp burrito from my last order. It was mostly rice and onions. Only 6 small shrimp in an otherwise big burrito. We also ordered a side of rice but got home and discovered that we got refried beans instead. Not the end of the world since there was a boatload of rice in the burrito. I will not order the shrimp burrito again, it's over $13 for mostly rice, but we will continue to visit this place in the future. read more

We were pleasantly surprised with this little place, our first visit. The gentleman at the counter taking our order was very nice (owner?) and accommodating. We had mostly breakfast items which were served promptly, nicely presented, fresh and tasted good. One item ordered, which could be tricky, is Menudo - this one was properly prepared (no fat, good flavor and portion). Even though the food was good, the place did not feel inviting, it is stark and cold, but clean :). And the only reason I did not give it a 5 star was due to one small item -- plastic utensils!!! Which were extremely poor quality, they bent, broke and just did not work. Real plates were used, my suggestion, please use real silverware. I did mention it to the gentleman there. All in all, we will return for either take-out and/or bring our own silverware next time. Gracias! read more

This place is a hidden gem. The meat is cooked perfectly, not over cooked and dried. The carne asada burrito is delicious. Not a fan of the Cali Burrito because it has potatoes instead of fries but that's a personal preference and nothing to do with the restaurant itself. The menudo is delicious...doesn't have harmony but that's ok with me. The staff is super friendly too. Give this place a try...you won't regret it. read more

Came here on a Friday evening with my wife. We walked in and we're greeted by the cashier. There was only one customer in at the time eating which should of been a sign. We ordered a carnitas plate and carne asada fries to go. The carnitas plate was okay. The highlight was the rice. The beans weren't too bad and the carnitas were not memorable. Beans were bland and probably saved by the cheese. The carnitas were not that well seasoned and bland. My wife did not enjoy her carne asada fries at all. I went ahead and tried them myself. They tasted off putting and were some of the worse carne asada fries I've had in a while. Meat was bland, fries tasted sweet, and cheese had zero flavor. Overall just poor quality. I was bummed as I read some recent reviews and really wanted to try this place. Unfortunately, this place doesn't cut it. read more

Good food, but I can really only comment on the burritos. Carnitas, carne asada, pollo asado, Diablo, California, are all excellent. They're also quite large so you can probably get a second meal out of one burrito. My favorites are the Diablo and pollo asado. The closest parking spaces closest to the front door are tricky because they reside at a major inlet/outlet to the shopping center. If you're eating here around peak times, you're better off parking further away so you don't have to wait for a bunch of cars to pass to get out. read more

This fast mexican food joint isn't half bad. I can only write a review based on three of my husband & I visits. All three times, we've only gotten one thing -- a california burrito. Here's what we've experienced when we've arrived here to order: 1) parking lot is minimal & the intersection can be a little busy so be careful! 2) it's in-between the post office & the killer pizza from mars. 3) service is fast & pretty friendly for the most part. 4) there's tables inside to eat in, limited but enough space if you really want to eat there & not bring it home. 4) california burrito tastes alright, i've had better but it's honestly not bad. I'd give this place a 4 star because we haven't had a bad experience here & the cali burrito has never tasted terrible. My wife and I recently discovered this place a couple of months ago. It quickly became a "go to" place for us to get really good authentic mexican food. We have been very happy with the food and the service... until Saturday morning, December 30, 2017. My wife and I stopped by for breakfast around 10 am. I had the usual three eggs with chilaquiles (I do not know if that is spelled correctly but it is cut tortillas, fried in hot chili sauce). About an hour later at Costco, it hit me bit time. I barely made it to the restroom. Within six hours both my wife an I were throwing up. We had the worst diarrhea in my lifetime. For more than 72 hours straight. We were both down for the count. At the time of this writing, I am at 96 plus hours and have still not recovered. To be fair, the usual husband and wife team were not working, some other guy was in the kitchen, but he obviously did not take the ServSafe food safety course, nor did he take and past the test. I do not know how any can grow bacteria like that and infect their customers to that extent, but they managed to do it. I have liked this little restaurant and have enjoyed the authentic food, but I do not think we can go back again. When food safety protocols are usurped to this extent, it shows a callus and flagrant disregard for public health and safety. read more
